Customizable Home Screen

I have updated my ipod to both versions 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 but I still do not have access to the Customizable Home Screen and I also cannot add web apps. Does anyone know why this is?

Hi rmm26a,
You'll need to buy the iPod January Upgrade, to use this feature. You can see information about it [here|https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/touchLandingPage] and buy it [here|http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=2718726 04&s=143441].
Hope this helps!

  • Ipad icons shaking, NOT the customize home screen!

I've had an ipad now for about 2-3 months.  While using it regardless of the app, the icons start moving randomly moving side to side and the search screen will show up along with the keyboard.  This is NOT the customize home screen shaking that have a black x to remove apps, etc.  This was happening before and after iOS6 upgrade so it has nothing to do with the OS upgrade, it seems to be a hardware issue.
Below is the link to a video I took:
    http://youtu.be/kIGLJrTvxLw
    Any ideas?

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is app and data safe!

  • 1.1.3 update installed, but cant customize home screen

I updated an iPod touch, and I confirmed in Settings > General > About, that it is running Version 1.1.3.
However, holding my finger down on a home-screen icon for an extended period of time does not put it into customize mode the way it does on my iPhone.
I also noticed that in Safari, when I hit the + plus sign, it does not give me the option to Add to HomeScreen.
But I am 100% sure the update installed and is running. I even have an option in settings >
General > Reset, to "Reset Home Screen Layout"
Now this update was installed from my Mac. But the iPod touch belongs to a friend and I do not want to register to my itunes, etc. I do have a back-up of their iPod Touch on in my iTunes, so I assume that I can do a restore and she wont loose all her songs and videos. After that I can try to apply the update again. Should this work? Are there any steps I should be aware of. I think the weird thing I am doing is trying to update the software from a computer (my macbook) that is not the same computer the iTouch usually syncs with. But I have done this with other peoples iPhones before and never had a probelm.
any advice would be much appreciated.

In addition to installing the firmware version 1.1.3 you must purchase a licence to unlock the software upgrade code.

  • Cannot customize home screen (1.1.4) Please help!!

I just purchased an IPod Touch 16Gb. I registered and upgraded to 1.1.4 and all is fine...except that I cannot customize the icons on the home screen. For example I'd like to move icons around and create shortcuts to web pages I visit often. To me this is an important feature...
The Features Guide (pg13) explains that you just touch and hold icons until they wiggle but they're not doing that on mine. This guide seems to assume you have the "January Update" installed as all the screen shots have the new progs showing. I tried restating, restoring, etc. all the stuff suggested on Apple Support but nothing.
Now even though I don't really need the new progs there are in this Jan update, I am prepared to shell out another $20 if it's what I have to do...BUT I CANNOT EVEN DO THAT...I live in Malta (EU) and it says that there is no iTunes store available here (stupid since I have a VISA card like anyone else and am willing to use it. I use it everywhere else online, except at Apple/iTunes??)...
An extensive search on Google and the only solutions I found are to jailbreak my new Ipod Touch. I don't want to have to do that but I must say I am very disappointed by this situation.
Surely there is a legit solution I can use...PLEASE HELP!!...and what's with this discrimination that I cannot purchase stuff from iTunes from here?? I have to find songs from illegal sources as well??
Is there an official Apple Support email address or is this forum the only thing I can use to speak to Apple?

No apple does not monitor these forums, and why would it help if they did? Do you not think that if it was possible apple would not want to take your money? You bought a ipod that did not contain the Jan. update, and thus your option for getting those apps and functionality is to purchase them from the itunes store. If this wasn't going to work for you, you shouldn't have made the purchase. If you were told that it was an ipod with the apps included then your grievance would be with the person in Italy from whom you bought it. Your only other option is to purchase a itunes gift card from somewhere or someone, and use that to purchase the update. • Business Objects Explorer Information Space Home Screen Customization

Is it possible to customize the display of the list of Information Spaces on the Home screen of Business Objects Explorer such as to sort ascending or descending?  Now it's shown as the order when they were created.

Thanks for your response.  I'm looking for a way to make a setting change so when the home screen is displayed, the list of Information Spaces will be sorted without the user having to click it  Also, is there a way to change some of the default setting of top 10, etc.

  • Customizing the Home Screen Status Bar

I know right now that the ability to customize the home screen is more or less limited to the arrangement of the icons, right?
What I want is the ability to place a 'new mail' or 'new sms' icon at the top of the home screen, along the status bar where the time and signal strength are currently displayed.
That way I can see at a glance if I have new messages, even when the phone is locked, by hitting the unlock button at the top of the phone.
Luckily the SMS preview gives me that status, but I still need to manually unlock the phone with the passcode before I can see if I have any new email. I don't use an audible alert for incoming email.
I'd also prefer the option to have new sms messages neither display a preview nor even display a name on the home screen.
In short, I want more control over the behavior and display of the home screen. I've seen some rumblings that the Apple SDK disallows interaction with the home screen. If so, iPhone users are completely at the whim of Apple to include new home screen functionality.
I'm not happy with that arrangement.
Coming from the Windows Mobile word, I'm finding Apple to be a very closed system. I knew ahead of time that there would be some diminished flexibility, but I didn't expect this much of a drop.

Apparently you do not have a question, but it seems that you have some feedback for Apple. As this is a users forum, populated by iphone users -not Apple, perhaps you need the address for feedback that Apple does receive:

  • How do you get ical to show on your home screen?

How do you get ical to show on your home screen? I deleted it from my homescreen (somehow) and i want to get it back.

Just open the International preferences panel, go to Times, Customize, and click on the leftmost number (hours). A small triangle lights up, and a pop-up list of various formats opens. Just select the one you like (1-24 or 01-24). Make sure to set the Date & Time preferences to 24-hour clock first.

  • Home screen and open apps

Some thoughts/suggestions after playing with Passport for two days:
    - Home Screen:  confusion of "home screeen":  in browser "Add to Home Screen".  it refers to the first left scroll of "Open Apps" screen. But the mini icon at the bottom of the screen the home sign refers to the left most screen - open apps.
    - Is there a way to customize which screen as "home" screen? Personally I don't like to go back to "open apps" when I swipe up my current app. I would rather stay to e.g the one next to it with desktop of icons. In most cases I don't bother to manage the open apps screen unless I do need to switch between them. Those big icons create distraction so I would rather hide them(and call them back when necessary).
    - switch/transition between different apps:  not quite natural/smoothly.  Need more fade in/out effect to make it feels perfect.

If you can't find the App Store app on any of your homescreens or app folders, and you can't find it via the spotlight search screen (swipe your first home screen to the right), then is it hidden by Settings > General > Restrictions > Installing Apps being set 'off' ?
If not then have you tried a reset to see if you can find it after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
The reset (and/or getting the App Store app back on screen) might also get the apps to start downloading again. If it doesn't then check if there are any outstanding downloads in the iTunes store app that need to complete first e.g. is there anything shown in the Downloads tab in it

  • 1.1.3 Google Mobile icon for home screen

It seems Google was ahead of the curve on this one. If you add Google Mobile to your home screen it gives you a nice crisp little Google icon. With any other site you just get a section of the page as your icon (zooming in on a logo helps). As soon as I noticed this I decided to add Apple to my home screen. Guess what, no custom icon. What gives? You'd think Apple would be the first kid on the block with a custom icon.

As for why Apple didn't (just my guess). Apple made the web clip icon show what you zoomed in on for that page. Now when they explained web clips, the mentioned a person may want a icon for the Style section of a newspaper site. Now if I created a web clip and zoomed in on the Style title, I would get a nice icon with "Style" showing. Then lets say I wanted a icon for the Sports page. I repeat but zoom in on Sports. Now I have two icons (same site) but icons look different based on my needs and what I want to see. So in short, gives the user control. Now for sites that are going to override the icon, they can if they wish but that will take away from the users customization of thier phone but will give good branding of the site.
So each has it's place. For Apple, since they made it to allow customization for the user it makes more sense (IMHO) for them to leave it up to the user rather than force an icon on them.

  • Where is the internet home screen button

HI,  I am a recently converted Mac user (2.0 ghz quad core i7). I am loving this machine. I just am trying to learn everything. It is a bit overwhelming.
My question is: is there a home screen button for the internet? On my pc there is a house shaped button that takes you to the home page.  Whenever I closed safari and then re-open it, it takes me to whatever screen I was on.
I hope this makes sense.  Thanks for your help.

    Many possibilities here. These include:
    * Make sure your homepage is selected in Safari, Preferences, General.
    * Safari View menu, "Customize toolbar...", then add the home button to your toolbar.
The next suggestions are designed to deal with Mac OS Lion's "Resume" feature (which by default launches your applications in the state they were in when you closed them):
    * Close all windows before quitting Safari.
    * Press option key when quitting Safari.
    * Press shift key when starting Safari.
    * Uncheck the box "Restore windows..." near the bottom of System Preferences, General.

  • New 1.1.3 feature to move home-screen icons to second page stops working

The cool new iPhone 1.1.3 update feature whereby you touch a home-screen icon for a second or so, and can then customize it's location, by moving it around, including moving to a second home page screen stopped working.
I can still customize the position of icons within a particular home screen, but I can no longer move them from home screen to home screen.
There is a work around, I can shuffle the icon down on to the main icon bar at the bottom, then shift to the second screen, then move the icon onto the second screen from the icon bar at the bottom.
The problem was triggered after I had populated some icons onto a second home screen page, then subsequently removed all icons from the second page - after the number of icons on the second page had hit zero, I couldn't then move more icons back onto it.
Seems like a minor bug - that can be worked around, by shuffling icons down to the button of the screen via the icon bar, but something that should be fixed.
I have not yet tried a cold-reboot, or a system restore on iTunes.

FYI - reboot didn't fix it - I'll do a system restore over the weekend - no doubt that will reset its state sufficiently and the problem will go away. Will be interesting to see if it returns.

  • Droid 3 Notifications Panel on Home Screen

Is there a way to customize the notifications panel at the top of the home screen on the Droid 3?  I don't want my Twitter notifications to display there, but didn't know how to remove that notification from the Notifications Panel.  Thanks!

Have you checked your twitter application for a settings to control how you get notifications?

  • Home Screen Icon Setup

I've looked but can not find it. I'm interested in setting up the icons that appear on my home screen. Is that possible? Can I customize which individual icons I will see?
Look forward to reading this board!!!

That depends. Are you talking about the physical look of you icons? If so they cannot be changed unless you change your theme. If you want to change what icons appear on your homescreen you can do that. You can click on an icon with the berry key and click hide. This will make the icon "disappear". You would then have to click the berry key and select show all to see the hidden icon. What I recommend and what I do is create folders on my homescreen. Click on the berry key and select add folder. You can give the folder a name and change the color of it. I have one for games and one for all my other icons I don't regularly use. That way they are not clogging up my homescreen but they are still easily accessable. Just click on an icon with the berry key then select move. Drag it over to the folder and click the trackball. That easy! Please let me know if you need more help.
