Customization Wizards and reader 8.1.2

Trying to install the update, I have customized the install but the remove previous version is greyed out, therefore can not select. When I run the install it does a repair. Does anyone know how to fix or the variable to set to force the uninstall of previous version?
Also is there a file for reader that is just the patch and not the complete package?

Yes, not being able to input öäüßÖÜÄ is indeed the same
problem as discussed in
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=370330
If acroread is started like this:
env -i XMODIFIERS=@im=local GTK_IM_MODULE=xim LANG=de_DE HOME=/home/mfabian DISPLAY=:0 acroread editable-file.pdf
input of öäüßÖÄÜ works, if started like this:
env -i XMODIFIERS=@im=local GTK_IM_MODULE=xim LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 HOME=/home/mfabian DISPLAY=:0 acroread editable-file.pdf
it does *not* work.
I.e. this is indeed the same problem as reported in
the above mentioned Novell bug.
To test this I removed the workaround I added to /usr/bin/acroread
temporarily.
The acroread package for openSUSE Factory (upcoming 11.0)
contains this workaround in /usr/bin/acroread:
# Workaround for https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=370330
if [ "$GTK_IM_MODULE" == "xim" ] ; then
for lc in LANG LC_ALL LC_CTYPE LC_NUMERIC LC_TIME LC_COLLATE LC_MONETARY
LC_MESSAGES LC_PAPER LC_ADDRESS LC_TELEPHONE LC_MEASUREMENT LC_IDENTIFICATION
do
eval val="\$$lc"
case "$val" in
*.UTF-8*)
eval $lc=\${val%%[.@]*}
esac
done
fi
Unfortunately this has not yet been released for older openSUSE versions.

  • Language Problem when installing Acrobat 8.0 Standard with Customization Wizard

    Hello,
i would like to install Acrobat 8.0 Standard in German on several PCs.
I created a mst-File with the Customization Wizard and it works except for the language settings. The default language is always English. I found a registry key to switch to German:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\Language\current]
    @="exlang32.deu"
This works for Acrobat but the Add ins for Microsoft Office are still in English. Is there a way to change the language settings for the Add ins?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Thomas

I Have the same problem but with the Swedish, Danish version
If I use the Customization Wizard the Danish language is ignored
    msiexec /i "acrostan.msi" TRANSFORMS="acrostan.mst"
I have added this keys after the installation
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\Language\current]
    @="exlang32.dan"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\Language\next]
    @="exlang32.dan"
    but It wont help
    Who can help with this

  • Customization Wizard - Security Settings Not Sticking

    Hi,
I'm trying to create a transform file to role out the Adobe Reader 9 msi file. I am using the Adobe Customization Wizard 9 and I can tell it is working to a degree as removing items from the Help menu work.
However, the main reason I want to use it is to add domains to the 'Privileged Locations Exempt from Enhanced Security' option. I have added two domains in here and checked the option to allow 'External Content' and 'Silent Printing'. However, when I run the msi with the transform file the application installs, but the Edit - Preferences - Security (Enhanced) doesn't show the domains I have added.
If I open the transform file in Notepad I can see the domains in there, so I know it's saving okay. But I think there must be some option I'm missing to enable them.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Nick

    Hello community,
it's amazing that the longstanding problem seems to stay down to the present day and neither Adobe nor admins found a solution for that. :-(
My plain intention was to enable enhanced security, preconfigure trust and lock down all settings. The best way would be to create a patched and transformed msi package of Adobe Reader 9 which can be deployed by Windows group policys. After applying the msp to the msi file I opened the msi in Adobe Customization Wizard 9 and made the desired modifications, in particular by adding a recursive folder in Privileged Locations Exempt. The test setup ran without any problems. To verify the modifications in Reader I checked it under "Edit / Preferences / Security (Enhanced)" and wondered why the exempt list still was empty.
In the Adobe "Enhanced Security and Trusted Locations" Guide there is specified where the enhanced security settings are stored in Windows Registry. At least the Privileged Locations Exempt entries should be stored in HKCU. I checked this up in registry of my test installation and found these entries in HKLM instead. So it seems that Adobe Reader would ignore these entries and it is expected that all settings are stored in HKCU indeed. But in that case the settings are only recognized if the user's interface is not locked down.
So my questions are: Did anybody managed it? How is it possible keep preconfigured settings and lock down user's interface of Enhanced Security Settings at the same time? Is it better to avoid using Customization Wizard and deploy the settings via reg files instead?
    Any responses would be appreciated.

  • Adobe Customization Wizard 9 and acrobat reader

Im trying to customise the acrobat reader with the Customization Wizard 9 and even if set some option like disable the check for update even after deploying the msi the option still there  i also try to disable the EULA when you first start the program neither ..... still apear the first time i start acrobat reader
    Thanks

As you are installing Adobe Reader 9 over Acrobat 8 then you need not worry about checking those greyed out options.
When you will install Adobe Reader 9, the Reder setup will not uninstall any previous Acrobat 8 version on it own.
So, you can go ahead and install Reader without worrying about these options. The Reader setup will only prompt during installation that whether to make Reader or Acrobat 8 the default viewer of PDF files.
These options have only been provided for the situation when, say,  Acrobat 9 is being installed over Acrobat 8, then it gives the user an option to choose whether to remove previous version of Acrobat or not. Because newer Acrobat versions remove previous Acrobat versions before installation, which is not possible with the Reader setup.
That said, please note that it is not recommended to use Reader and Acrobat on the same machine, Adobe doesn't recommend this.

  • Customization Wizard 9 and Reader 9.2: not saving trusted hosts

I', using "Adobe Customization Wizard 9" and "Adobe Reader 9.2".  As  part of the Enhanced Security Settings , I want to define two trusted hosts.  ie: http://www.whatever.com .  The problem is that the Wizard is not saving the trusted hosts that I enter.  I generate the MST file and perform a test installation with the .msi calling the .mst file.  All the other customizations I have made using the Customization Wizard 9 tool are there EXCEPT the settings I designated for the trusted hosts. The entries are blank.
Is this a known bug with the Customization Wizard 9 or am I doing something wrong?
    TIA !

I came across your post because I am looking for an answer to the same corruption. Installation completes, but installed configuration does not match my settings. I have similar but separate packages hosted on 2 different servers from which I pushed installation to 2 different LANs. All evidence so far is that all installations are corrupt, all of which defeats the purpose of using the Adobe Customization Wizard.
I suspect I will have to revisit all systems.
I have no answers to offer, but will monitor this site in case you do get good advice to fix.

  • Issues with setting "Maked Reader the default PDF viewer" with Adobe Customization Wizard XI

I am using the Adobe Customization Wizard XI. I have set the following options in the Adobe Customization Wizard.
    Personalization Options
Enabled the checkbox for Suppress display of End User License Agreement (EULA)
    Installation Options
Selected the radio button for Make Reader the default PDF viewer
Run Installation: selected radio button Silently(No Interface)
    Security
Enhanced Security Settings - Clicked drop down and set value to Disable
    Online Services and Features
    Checked Disable product updates
Checkd In Adobe Reader, disable Help > Purchase Adobe Acrobat
    Checked Disable Product Improvement Program
Checked Disable Viewing of PDF with Ads for Adobe PDF
Checked Disable all Adobe online services based workflows and entry points.
I have tried to deploy the MSI with MST via GPO and Command Line with no luck.  Every time i deploy via below methods, the same result occurs, all of the options are set correctly except the "Make Reader the default PDF viewer".  I know how to manually set this option via Windows or Adobe interfaces but i am looking to roll this out to the masses and would not want a bunch of service desk calls because a user clicks on an Adobe PDF file and it is not opening in Adobe Reader.
    GPO
    Create New Package Use AcroRead.msi
    Choose Advanced
Deployment Options - Click Uninstall this application when it falls out of the scope of management.
Modifications - Select Transform file located in the folder of MSI
    Command Line.
Tried these options to try and apply "Make Reader the default PDF viewer"
    msiexec /i  "<path>\AcroRead.msi" TRANSFORMS="<path>\TransformFile.mst"
    msiexec /i  "<path>\AcroRead.msi" TRANSFORMS="<path>\TransformFile.mst" /qn
    msiexec /i "<path>\AcroRead.msi" IW_DEFAULT_VERB=Read
    msiexec /i  "<path>\AcroRead.msi" TRANSFORMS="<path>\TransformFile.mst" IW_DEFAULT_VERB=Read /qn
Anyone know how to make this setting work with the Transform file, i sure would appreciate assistance on this issue.

Instead of saving as a PDF thru Work do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save as PDF and it will be saved the first time with the Preview icon.

  • Adobe Customization Wizard X issue PDF icon and disable display in browser after installation

I have used the Adobe Customization Wizard X wizard to setup a .MTS files for the custom install. When this is installed using SCCM 2012 with command (msiexec /q /i "\\Server\Share\AcroRead.msi" TRANSFORMS="\\Server\Share\AcroRead.mst") this all works fine but all PDFs on the machine that gets this deployment (Windows 7 x64 or Windows XP x86) the icons for the .pdf don't show the Adobe icon they show the generic Windows icon when the program is not assigned but still work to launch Adobe reader. I have tried to unistall and reinstall but still the same resaults. If I install the .msi with no .mst the icon shows up just fine. So it has to be something with when you use the customization wizard or the .mst. I have also tried assigning .PDF to another program and the icon changes to that program and assign it back and no icon. Also if I set Display PDF in browser = Disabled this setting does not stick. I have just installed via Adobe not using SCCM via command line I get the same resaults.
I have only selected these customizations:
         Installation Options:
    Silently (No interface)
    Suppress reboot
         Shortcuts
    No desktop Icon
           EULA
Suppress display of End User License Agreement (EULA)
         Online Features
    Disable all updates
Disable Help > Purchases Adobe Acrobat
    Disable Product Improvement Program
Display PDF in browser = Disabled
    Disabled  All Acrobat.com access

    Hi Ben,
Here's what I am trying to accomplish I had Acrobat Standard v10.1.4 scripted so I can deploy it to a Citrix Server (XENAPP6) via SCCM 2007 I have at least 50 licenses of Acrobat Standard deployed to 50 users. All of our Citrix Servers have Adobe Reader v10.* installed as our default pdf viewer. There are other apps that are deployed to this Citrix Server and I wanted to make sure that pdf files open on Adobe Reader instead of Acrobat Standard.
I had to change the installer tables directly so I don't have to get it re-scripted to use this command line. Is it a best practice not to change the isntaller table?
    msiexec /i "\\source\Acrobat10\AcroStan.msi" transforms="\\source\Acrobat10\AcroStan.mst" LEAVE_PDFOWNERSHIP=”YES” /qb /norestart
Thanks a lot for your help I'm looking forward to hear from you.

  • Adobe Customization Wizard X doesn't set Adobe Reader X to be default when customizing Acrobat X

I've recently started working with Adobe Customization Wizard X.
I've got Adobe Reader X customized and it's already installed all computers. Now, I'm working on customizing Adobe Acrobat X. During the customization, I only have the following 2 options:
    1. Installer will decide which product will be the default
    2. Make Acrobat the default PDF viewer
Choosing the 1st option, makes Acrobat as the default PDF viewer. In other words, I don't get an option to keep Adobe Reader X as the default on the existing computer.
Found a blog in Adobe site which suggests running Adobe Reader installation again after Acrobat is installed. Although it works, it just isn't a good solution (my opinion).
    http://blogs.adobe.com/pdfitmatters/2011/03/installing-acrobat-x-and-reader-x-on-the-same- machine.html
Can you advise what're the registry setting that I can set during the Acrobat X customization so that it doesn't become the default PDF viewer.

  • Customization Wizard X - Uninstall Acrobat (Reader) X?

The Adobe Customization Wizard X has the option when generating msts for 'Removing Previous Versions of Acrobat' and 'Removing previous versions of Reader'.  Is there any way of having it remove version 10 installations as well?
For example, when generating the mst for Acrobat X, I would like the installation to remove Acrobat Reader X, if it were to exist on the machine, and vice versa.
I know I can likely accomplish this by other means (I am installing via GPO, and could set the software to uninstall when a machine falls out of scope), but in our instance, I think this option would be a much cleaner solution.

Reader installer with MST does not interfere with the Acrobat installations (any previous versions). Whereas, Acrobat installer with MST may interfere with the both Acrobat and Reader installations (any previous versions)
i.e. If we have both Acrobat and Reader installed on the machine, and we are creating Latest Reader's MST vias Cust Wizard. It can not uninstall any previous versions of Acrobat. The installer for (Latest version's) Full Reader has ability to remove any previous versions of Reader. i.e. We do not need to specifically go and check the "Remove Previous versions of Reader"
However, if we have Acrobat and Reader installed on the machine, and we are creating Latest Acrobat version's MST vias Cust Wizard. It can uninstall any previous versions of both Acrobat and Reader.
So, the Reader option is ruled out and we are left with only Acrobat installation. Can the Acrobat X MST's remove the Reader X (same version) installations ? The answer is "No" it can not remove the same version (i.e. Reader X) but can remove any previous versions of Reader.
    Hope, it helps.

  • Adobe Reader 8.2 not working on Adobe Customization Wizard 8

I tried creating a transform file from Adobe Reader 8.2 using Adobe Customization Wizard 8. However, the tool won't generate the transform and is looking for Setup.ini.
I looked again at the installer that I got and it is now a single msi file unlike the previous releases which is a compressed Setup.exe that I used to decompress and get the msi, cab file and the setup.ini.
Anyone know how to get the compressed Setup.exe version of Adobe Reader 8.2 or how will it work with the Adobe Customization Wizard 8?

    Thanks for the reply.
Since I have previous deployment of the application, I just edited the old Setup.ini that I have. here's what I edited:
    [Product]
msi=AdbeRdr820_en_US.msi  --> this is the part that that customization wizard is looking for and should be the same name as the msi installer.
We are using Marimba for deployment, The Customization Wizard helps a lot in generating the transforms that I need for Adobe Reader.

  • Need to run Adobe Customization Wizard every time for each new reader update?

    Hi there,
This should be a simple question...
Do I need to run Adobe Customization Wizard every time on each new incremental reader update, or just once per major revision (e.g. Reader 9, Reader X)?

This question hasn't been answered because it would be better asked in the enterprise deployment forum. The Wiz is an ent deployment tool and only is used for initial deployments in most cases. You use it to customize the installer and the product when it's first installed. You could use it for any install, but that is a less common scenario.
Usually, you customize the first version you install and then just apply updates as they are released.
    HTH.

  • Remove previous versions of Reader greyed out in Adobe Customization Wizard 9

Hi everyone.  I'm trying to make an SMS pushable custom MSI with the Adobe Customization Wizard 9, to roll out Acrobat Reader 9 to all my PCs.  The big reason i wanted to use the ACW9 was so I could force it to uninstall all the old versions of Reader on my computers, which i have a lot of different versions of 7 and 8 out there.  When I go to  the screen in ACW9, the option to remove previous versions of Reader is greyed out and unchecked, and the rmeove previous versions of Acrobat is greyed out and checked (which is what i dont want to do).  Any ideas how to get this to work right?  I have both older versions of Reader and Acrobat Pro on my computer i'm using to build it, so it isn't that.

It doesn't seem Adobe really cares about supporting IT personnel. Thanks for a tool that doesn't work properly and you provide no support for.
What I've found is that it will remove previous Acrobat reader versions! So it's not harmless when that option is checked and greyed out.

  • I just created an AIP version of Adobe 11.0.10, applied our settings with the .mst through Adobe Customization Wizard.Online Services and Features Issues

I just created an AIP version of Adobe 11.0.10, applied our settings with the .mst through Adobe Customization Wizard. But something is blocking it from opening the software, it just flickers the windows explorer, if I uncheck all the settings for the Online Services and Features it lets me open it but i can't skip the registration screen. Has something changed with this version of 11.0.10?

Having the same problem here. Even if not creating an AIP, and instead doing a standard install of AcroPro.msi and patching with 11.0.10's msp, it'll result in a registration loop that can't be skipped.
Applying an Adobe ID allows for getting through the screen, but obviously, in an enterprise environment, that's not ideal.
This issue was something that I experienced with 11.0.07, and it went away with 11.0.08 and 11.0.09, but seems to have returned with 11.0.10.
Previously, I was able to get around the issue by clearing out some files from the Common Files\Adobe directory, particularly Adobe PCD and SLCache, as well as including the Adobe regids stored in ProgramData, but that fix no longer works with this latest version.
If REGISTRATION_SUPPRESS is set to YES, the result is Acrobat closing and opening in a loop, since it can't get through the registration screen.
I'm currently investigating for a registry key that might possibly applied to circumvent this issue, but I haven't found one yet.
For Adobe Acrobat 8, it used to be stored in the following two places, per Prompted to register repeatedly | Acrobat 8 | Windows
         32-bit Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\AdobeViewer
         64-bit Windows: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\AdobeViewer
However, the registry structure seems to have changed since then.

  • Adobe Customization Wizard XI with Reader XI-not all options are available

I'm using the Adobe Reader XI redistributable (yes, I got the license and special download, etc.)
I've followed the Enterprise administration kit which makes me extract and build an AIP.  All is well
What I notice is that the Customization Wizard has some options grayed out.
For example, the DOCS for the customization wizard say that I can fill out username, organization, etc.
    But those are grayed out.
Also, I cannot select the Installation Options -> Remove previous version of Acrobat (it's grayed out).  I can only select the Remove all versions of Reader.
    Any idea why this is?
I point it to the AIP reader .MSI File when i built the customization kit.

You should post this on the Enterprise Deployment forum but  the username, organization, etc... are for Acrobat only.  The ability to uninstall Acrobat is for Acrobat only.  It would be a bad thing for Reader to uninstall a more capable product like Acrobat Standard or Acrobat Pro no matter what the version.
