Customize Discoverer 10.1.2.48.18 Viewer

We want to customize the Viewer page something like limit the no of export types and also remove the save option which viewer 10.1.2.48.18 gives when the workbook layout is changed or condition formating has been done. We dont want the user to be prompted for save. How can i achieve this ideal case would be to have export such a way that it exports to excel by default when user clicks export. Can this be done ?

Yes it can be done. I have modified our Discoverer View & Plus to have only the Connect To, Username, Password and Database fields. I have not removed the database field. I use the url to pass the Connect To (lm=applications) and the database (db= <database>).
Oracle Metalink note 342255.1 goes into detail on how to modify the page to remove End User Layer. A search on Metalink using UIX will return a several detailed notes on how to modify Discoverer pages.
The notes say that any modification is not supported so make a backup of all files!!!

Discoverer 10.1.2.55.26 Viewer Shows NULL instead of Blank

Hello All,
we recently installed Discoverer 10.1.2.55.26 and applied cumulative patches(CM4). we migrated 9.04 version reports to Discoverer 10g(10.1.2.55.26).
On all the Reports, we see NULL instead of Blank spaces in the data in the viewer. How can we change all of the reports to show blank space instead of NULL.
Please share your experience and thoughts on this Issue

Before i try on the big bang approach. I tried changing the worksheet options for one of the worksheet that shows NULL.
I changed from NULL to blank space and saved the workbook.
we use Oracle Portal to show these workbooks as Portal Views. Portal View was showing NULL before the change, and after changing the worksheet options and saving it, i refreshed the portal view and it started showing Blank instead of NULL. Works fine for that day.
The next Day again it started showing NULL.
Do u think are we missing any step?

Customization of new NW04s BEx Analyzer default view?

Can the default view displayed when a query is executed in the new NW04s (7.0) BEx Analyzer be customized -- perhaps for company branding, disabling/enabling certain functions, etc -- similar to the way the default/standard web templates can be modified? If so, how would you go about doing that?

Based upon the referenced documentation I can believe I understand how to create my own default workbook with/for the NW04s BEx Analyzer and toggle between it, the system default for me, and the SAP default (the 3 buttons on the Global Settings ... Select Default Workbook view).
However, the document indicates "There is one default workbook per user in a system which can be set by the system administrator". How/where would an administrator do that? There is a "global default" flag in the Global Settings view which I don't see discussed in the documentation -- not sure if this factors in, if so how an administrator would go here to make a user-specific setting, etc.
Any additional help appreciated,

Every time I open a PDF invoice in the built in PDF viewer - in Firefox Mac - I have to resize the the window and zoom the page to see what's on it. Is there a way to set a default window size that suits me better?

Customization Of Discoverer Viewer

I Want to Modify Viewer_Config.xml to customize Discoverer Viewer.
I am referring Oracle "Configuration Guide For Oracle 9i Application Server"
In the quick Customization Steps it is written that
Change section <look name = "Corporate Look " > according to your preferred Template name
change the various component values to true or false as required.
And paste the changed one before </layout_templates>
But after doing this i did not get changed reflected in the Discoverer Viewer.
I have restarted Http and discoverer 4i services also
Have any of you have modified the Discoverer 4i Viewer

But, when it's viewing through discoverer viewer it's coming big size.
If we saw the source code by right click, it's taking some scipt where

Tweaking defaults of Discoverer 10g (Viewer and Plus) login page

Using information gleaned from the Metalink notes referenced below, we've had our admins successfully configure our default Discoverer 10g login pages (for Viewer and Plus) with the following tweaks:
1) Remove the "typo-prone" entry box for RESPONSIBILITY (on an Apps-Mode EUL) in favor of the subsequent drop-down LOV option to select available responsibilities
2) Re-order CONNECT TO options to make the more frequently used APPS-MODE option first in the drop-down list, followed by the STANDARD (relational) and finally, OLAP (to be hopefully implemented at some future date)
3) Re-label CONNECT TO options with terminology more understandable to our end-users in order to better understand choices
We would like, if possible, to further enhance the relative efficiency of the user login experience by making the APPS-MODE option the default selection upon initial entry to the page (the above-indicated re-ordering of the entries didn't appear to affect Oracle's continued default selection of the STANDARD option).
If anyone has any suggestions / tips to accomplish this, we would greatly appreciate your feedback. I should also say, that we don't possess a lot of Java Development skills and therefore would appreciate any directions provided in a "cookbook/recipe" manner similar to those provided in the Metalink documents we were able to utilize for the changes made thus far.

I would have to suspect that the answer to the question of restricting responsibilities might well be yes.
Here's one idea:
Because responsibilities come from FND_RESPONSBILITIES, can you write a piece of SQL that positively identifies the responsibilities that are used inside Discoverer? If you can do that, I'm wondering whether a Discoverer logon trigger might be able to set a VPD policy to only allow those responsibilities.
I don't have any time to try it otherwise I would. Is there anyone who can pick this up and run with it to see what can be made to happen?

Customizing Discoverer Viewer

According to chapter 10 in "Oracle Discoverer Configuration Guide (version 9.0.2)" you can customize Discoverer Viewer in mainly to ways:
1. By editing blaf.css.
2. By editing ui_config.xml
In ui_config.xml you can create presentation templates which can be selected in Viewer via "Presentation Options".
How can we make one of the templates the default template for our Discoverer sessions? We want the users to meet a standardized user interface when opening workbooks from a Portal list of workbooks portlet.

I'm having a similar problem, only the default logo never
changes to the one I've specified. I'm looking for a way to turn
OFF the default completely without having to maually changing
the disco_logo.gif file or any of the other gif's. I'm disgusted
by the "customizable" nature of this product.

I cant see the graph in discoverer viewer whith was created in the desktop

I need your help!! I have a problem to see a graph in Discoverer viewer. I will detail you the steps that I follow;
It was a difficult calculate report to results by Discoverer so, I create a view in the data base which show 3 field, Periodo(number) which is a union whit other field from other folder, State(varchar), Requirement(number).
From the discoverer desktop y have a crosstab worksheets and a graph, there I can see it without problem, but in the Discoverer viewer I can see the graph.
I tried to set the worksheets options in “show options” to show me the graphs too, but this options didn’t appeared there. Somebody know what I should have to do to see it?
On the other hand I changed the “show null values show” option since null to empty, and when I wanted to save the change this error appeared;
“Oracle BI Discoverer don’t had to found the necessary values to show the events…”

Hi Dora,
The graphs that you create using Discoverer Plus will show nicely in Viewer. Everything you develop in Pluys works in Viewer. They are companion products.
You must realize that Discoverer Plus/Viewer and Desktop are two seperate product sets and they use different techniques for graph creation. There are other differencies between the two that suggests that you need to develop all reports using Discoverer Plus in stead of Discoverer Desktop.
I have experienced workbook created in Plus being destroyed when opened and saved using Desktop. So for a long time I have simply forgotten all about Desktop. If your company is relying on both Viewer and Dersktop I suggest that the time has come to change strategy and technique.

Carriage Returns in Discoverer Viewer 10

Hi,
I have a Discoverer 10g report based on a view, within the view one of the fields is defined as:
, pvs.address_line1||Chr(13)||Chr(10)
||pvs.address_line2||Chr(13)||Chr(10)
||pvs.address_line3||Chr(13)||Chr(10)
||pvs.city||Chr(13)||Chr(10)
||pvs.state||Chr(13)||Chr(10)
||pvs.zip||Chr(13)||Chr(10)
…this returns multiple values in a single fields with carriage returns after each line, IE:
NASH HOUSE
OLD OAK LANE
LONDON
NW10 6DH
This works fine within the database and also in Discoverer 10 Plus, however in Discoverer 10 Viewer the same record is displayed as:
NASH HOUSE OLD OAK LANE LONDON NW10 6DH
Is it possible to ‘configure’ Discoverer Viewer to display carriage returns?

Hello Marias,
To disable the warning message, Connect to the Admin Edition and navigate to Tools -> privilege -> click Select button and provide the username and hit GO button.
Now in the "Desktop and plus privileges" section uncheck the option "Save workbooks to Database" and apply it.
This will remove the privilege only to that particular user. To remove this privilege from all the users, select the public role and revoke the privilege.

I have created a Materialised View XX and developed a report out of it..!
The Report Runs fine, using Discoverer Desktop.
When I am trying to run the same report using Discoverer Viewer! I am getting following Error!
OracleBI Discoverer Viewer was unable to find the necessary data for displaying the results of this event. Please correct any errors and try again.

Customize Report Viewer Frame and Colors

I am using the CR report viewer (2008) from within a .Net UI application. I would like to customize frame and background colors of the viewer control. (not the background color of the report area itself).
I can't find anything in the properties to get a rid of the light gray frame and the gray background left and right of my report pages. We are using our own styleguide for UI design and I would like to get a seamless integration of reports into our frame design.
Hope anybody has some hints for me.

I alread tried most of the viewer properties (BackColor, BackGroundEdge, etc...) before I posted my question here. Unfortunately it seems not to be that simple.
Changing properties of some underlying controls I got one step further...
The gray borderline and the dark gray background are not part of the viewer control itself, but under control of some of the underlying control elements. F.e. I am able to get rid of the dark grey background when I change the BackColor of the tab page control.
I am still fighting to get rid of the ligth gray and black borderline, that seems to be created by the tab control istself. Unfortunately it is not just the BackColor or ForeColor I have to change here. If any body has an idea, it will be helpfull.

Sql to tell report names based on view/table name

Hello, we recently upgraded to release 12 and planning to implement sub ledger accounting and we are in the process of identifying our customizations written on top of distribution tables so that we can tweak them to go after SLA tables. Majority of our custom objects are discoverer reports. And most of these discoverer reports are based on custom folders which are based on custom views. By running a sql we were able to identify the names of all of our custom views which go after the distribution tables. Now we want to identify which of our discoverer reports are based on these views via custom folders of our custom business areas. Our custom folders might have been named exactly same as custom view or they may have different name and the folder may actually have a sql in which they are referring these custom views.
Would it be possible for someone to provide a sql select statement which takes database table / view name and returns the name of discoverer workbooks referring this table/view? Thanks in advance for help.

However according to engineer with Oracle support it is a bug. The problem with updating that table is more related to workbooks that were created in older versions or upgraded to 10.1.2.2 but have not been opened and resaved. Bug 4901641 is present in 10.1.2.2 admin and it can result in Discoverer Admin not updating the EUL5_ELEM_XREFS. Admin version 10.1.2.3 is expected to resolve this with an easy workaround is to export the older workbooks and re-import them into your eul. The import process will update the EUL5_ELEM_XREFS table and will save customer from saving and opening every workbook.
So, may be you have 10.1.2.3 in your environment and never experienced this issue or may be your reports were never upgraded from previous versions to 10.1.2.2. In our environment we have upgraded our reports to this version from previous versions and may be what oracle engineer told is true. I need to work with our admin to get this looked at and get it fixed.

Not able to view Folders in Business area.

Hi,
User has been given access to XYZ business area from discoverer Admin but not able to view folders in Discoverer Plus (web based) but he can view the folders under same business area (ie XYZ) using Discoverer Desktop Application. Only one user is facing the problem other users with same business area (ie. XYZ) can view all the folders under that business area. User tried on other PC also but result the same.

I faced same kind of problem some time back & found JInitiator as the cause. Try unintalling older Installation of JInitiator & reinstall it & it should work.
