Query regarding Metadata load in Essbase using rule file

In our application,we are loading metadata using Essbase rule file and here we are facing one problem.Suppose we have to load a level 0 member called "xxxx" under two different parent,assume the parent members are Parent_AAAA and Parent_BBBB.But our requirement is the consolidation operator for the first occurrence ( i.e under Parent_AAAA) is "+" and for the shared member under Parent_BBBB is "-".But,when we are loading using rule file the consolidation operator for the shared member always being loaded as "+".Is there any trick to change the consolidation operator for shared member other than changing it manually in outline?

I don't think there is a way to change the default setting.
However, what you can do is to have a different load rule and different text file with only the metadata that you want to have an exception for shared members. That way, you can achieve it as you do not have to change the existing rule file.

DIM: how to load metadata to Essbase without using rule files

Hi,
The Essbase adapter has been installed in the informatica PowerCenter (v8.1.1). We want to create a Essbase target definition to load metadata. In the Table Creation Wizard, we select Table Type: Dynamic dimension building (Type 3), but it needs to specify Rules file in the Column Creation Wizard.
Any method to load metadata into Essbase without using Rules file?

You could load the data into Essbase without Rule file by means of free form loading which the Datasource would be a file.

In HFm If I select "Clear all previous metadata option" when i loading the new metadata XML file. what will happen rule files what ever I loaded in the previous metadata . Is these are erased?

You are just loading Metadata file ,so it wont touch the rule file.But please check the changed metadata file and rule conditions are matching.
RULE WONT BE IMPACTED.

How to get an account with an IsICP -"R" attribute calculated in the HFM Rule file

Till recently everything was going fine with the calculations in our HFM setup ( Version 4.1)
We have say around 8 Expense accounts which roll up into a Parent account say ALL446 which finally rolls up into Operating Expenses.
Operating Expenses
|__ parent account
      |_INVALO
       |_ALL446
          |__222446
          |__242446
And we have a calculation in the rule file as below
HS.EXP "A#BE FIXED COST = A#Operating Expenses +A#SGA - A#BE VC OP F10"
This was calculating correctly till we did the below change
Added IsICP attribute to couple of accounts say 222446 and 242446 ( in the above example) in the metadata which finally rolls up into Operating Expense.
Note: we did not add any Plug account attribute to the accounts
Now the problem what we have in hand is -> Fixed Cost is not calculating correctly.- It happens that the two accounts for which we added the IsICP are not showing up in the calculation and the data in those two accounts are not adding up in Fixed Cost.
POV in GRID/Excel -> actual,2013,periodic,<Entity Currency>, ICP Top, AllCustom1, AllCustom2, AllCustom3, None( for custom4)
But when we retrieve Operating Expenses in Excel - it is showing the correct amount, even in the grid - but looks like when the rule tries to calculate Fixed Expenses using the above rule - these accounts are not adding up in the Operating expenses.
I tried the formula ( to check what number is coming into Fixed cost ) - the result is zero - But in the grid/excel I see amount for acct2. Same POV as above
HS.EXP "A#BE FIXED COST = A#222446"
and if I add & Tops to the account like below ( getting some weird number instead of what is there in acct2)

Questions:
1) Where exactly I am going wrong ?
2) Is it MANDATORY to have a Plugaccount attribute when we have IsICP turned to "R" ?
3) What will happen if we do not have a Plugaccount for the IsICP account ?
4) How to correct the formula to make sure I get the number in the acct2 into Fixed Cost??
5) Do we need to have the IsICP turned on to the immediate parent of the account having IsICP and the Top parents of the account too??
6) Is it possible to get the exact number what we have in 222446 into BE Fixed Cost account via Rule?- why I am not getting it

1) why was I not getting the formula right when I use & Tops
I'm assuming that BE Fixed Cost has N for IsICP, in that case you can not write to invalid intersections as it would attempt to use the same ICP information

If you want it to rollup, yes you would need that. We have all Parent accounts as isICP set to Y and top member to ICP Entities so that they roll up
5) which will have priority the rule or the Grid where we have the calculated member like the BE Fixed Cost - because in the grid I had icptop, allcustom1,2 3 and when had & Tops to the account - I got some weird numbers...
I'm not following the question here, grids are just really a display mechanism, rules will handle all of the calculations.

Rules File Not Running in EPMA During Consolidation

Greetings -
I am doing a migration from 11.1.1.2 to our Production environment in 11.1.1.3. We are using EPMA, though I wrote and maintain the rules files in the old editor and import them to the calc manager. I have exported and imported the metadata, recreated the applications, imported the rules file, and recreated security. Everything between the two systems seem to match. The rules file imported without issue and can be extracted from the application, I know it is deploying. When I run a consolidation, the rules file seems to be getting skipped somehow. System translation and consolidation (no special rules for those) run fine, but the consolidation immediately starts at 40% and none of my dynamic or calculated accounts are ever populated. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In Calc Manager, check in the menu bar, look for Deployment View.
Make sure the Sub Calculate is checked and then re-deploy.

ERPI Concatenate Segment in the metadata rule Mapping Type

Hi Gurus,
I'm having an issue with ERPI Concatenate Segment. When i use mapping type as Concatenate Segment to concatenate Accounts and SubAccounts in the Metadata Rule receving Execution error in the ODI, but able to use FDM type without any errors and able to extract data from EBS 11.
My Target application is HFM (Classic) application.
I did update the new HFMDriver.dll, changed in the snpsconf file and updated the odi driver path in the environment variables.
While checking the aif.log from temp folder found error as below
ERROR [DwgCmdExecutionThread]: Error occurred during load process Error occurred in driver while connecting to Financial Management application [APPCONSOL] on [10.10.17.46] using user-name [admin]..
While check in the process details found error as below
Error occurred during load process. Error occured in driver while connecting to Financial Management application
Error in LKM COMM Load Members into HFM - Load Metadata to HFM
I checked all the settings in the Topology Manager and all the connections are successful.

ERPI - cannot run extract for HFM metadata rule

Hi,
I'm in the process of configuring ERPI for FDM/HFM, no EPMA, version 11.1.1.3. Things are working fine until I created an HFM metadata rule and wanted to run the extract.
I see the extract ID and I can look at the process details and see it in there, but nothing is happening: no processes in ODI Operator, no log entries for the process ID in ERPI.
Can somebody tell me what I'm missing? Also, is there a log file with information on what's going on behind the scenes, in case the process doesn't even get to ODI?

Rule files for dataload

Hi All,
I am a newbie to essbase and trying to load data from ODI. I am not very clear with the concept of rule file. Request you to throw some light on the below cases:
Is rule mandatory for loading metadata?
Is rule not required for loading data to the essbase database? In this case, my observation is that i am able to load data using rule file and also by not using rule file. So, in what circumstances the rule file is required?
Note: The sample code by Oracle for loading data to the essbase cube, has interfaces to load metadata using rule file and interfaces to load data without using rule file.

Thanks for the response.
Another issue is , the interface that loads data to the essbase cube using IKM SQL to HYPERION Essbase (DATA) knowledge module is deleting the rule file after the load. But, I do not see any step in ODI logs that deletes the rule file.On the other hand, we do not see such behavior with IKM SQL to HYPERION Essbase (METADATA) knowledge module.

Loading Text Datatype account members using rule file

Hi,
I have seen some blogs but still having the issue to load the text data type value to my Planning application.
I am using EPM 11.1.2.1, my planning application has 3 plan type including workforce where i have few attributes of employee(position, role,location etc) free text input using planning webform. so i define those account members as Text data type.
Note: we don't have ODI or any other tool used for metadata or Data loading.
I am using **Outline Load utility** to refresh my dimension , do we have a way to load text data type using load rule. i tried using Load rule and getting following error
\\ Invalid number in data column
"010" "1000" "Budget" "Draft1" "Local" "Hsp_InputValue" "Jan" "Fong, Siu Lung (Felix), 4" "FY12" "sr sft eng" "testing test"
please guide me if any other way to load the text data i am getting in the employee file.

You can use the outline load utility to load data, there are examples available at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/hp_admin/ch05s02s01.html
If you are trying to load using an essbase rules file then you will experience issues trying to load text to essbase, essbase only stores a numeric value for planning text data and it is the planning relational database that stores the text value, this is why the outline load utility would be better to use.

Format of Rule-Files

We want to modify the Rule-Files (Data Load and Dimension Build) automatically depending on our metadata.For this we need a documentation of the format of the rule-files.Can anyone help us?ThanksMichael

I seriously doubt that you will be able to pull this off. What is it that you need to do that requires modifying a load rule? Can you achieve the same result by programatically writing and running calc scripts, or by scrubbing the data prior to loading into Essbase?

Uncovering iTunes metadata rules

Those of us that record streaming audio with tools such as Audio Hijack, have discovered that files don't go where we want them too in itunes. Music can end up in the Audio books folder, or sometimes simply never show up. It appears that Apple has some built in metadata rules that govern which folder in iTunes a file name show up in. These rules appear (remember I'm reverse engineering here) to depend on the recording format and (sometimes) the genre tag. (Nota bene: I fill out the Name, artist, and album tags too, so there may be some dependency there I haven't uncovered).
I did some experimenting by recording some BBC streams with various Genre tags and recording formats using Audio Hijack then importing the files to iTunes and seeing which folder they went into. Here are the results.
AAC, 32kbps goes to Audiobooks, no matter what you put in Genre.
AAC, 128 kbps goes to Music if you have a Genre that is a Music genre (I just put in Dance)
AAC, 128 Kbps goes to Audiobooks if you have a Genre set to Audiobooks or Spoken word (or I suppose Books & Spoken)
Apple Lossless goes to the Music folder no matter what's in the tag.
MP3, 128 kbps, with a Genre tag that is a Music Genre goes to the Music folder
If you have a file that does not show up anywhere but in 'Recently Added', try using a tool that will allow you to add data to the tags then reimport it.
Changing the tag after the file is in iTunes does not allow you to move the file after you've loaded it.
Your mileage may vary.
It would be helpful if Apple would document these rules so we can put our files where we want them, OR give us back a way to view ALL our files in the Library.

I'm not sure what you are asking exactly. If you change the metadata on a file by not using iTunes but instead another tag editor, iTunes won't automatically change what it displays until you activate a file in iTunes by either playing it or just scrolling through it. I sometimes use a non-iTunes editor to change tags but then I have to scroll through the list of songs so it highlights each one, forcing iTunes to check each one.
There are supposed to be ways to get iTunes to re-inventory tracks but I have not found any that are sure to work. Some suggest highlighting the tracks, drag partway to a playlist, but then don't add them.

It does seem that i still have a "adblockplus" file that is in my firefox profile files (though i guess that could be the file for the "Element Hiding Helper extension for Adblock Plus" which wasn't deleted.)
. . .i would very much like to restore it, as i mentioned above i had many of my own customized blocking rules, along with rogue antivirus/security/software, phishing, malvertising, malware blocklist, etc..
In the mean time i'm going to copy those "adblockplus" files that are in my firefox profile files (that i mentioned above) ..in a zip file on my desktop in case it goes missing, and go to "Adblock Plus" and add it along with a few of it's blocking rules for now.

Hi Teagan, were you able to recover your rules?
Many times, when you remove an extension, its preferences are left behind, so there's a good chance that reinstalling the extension will enable you to recover them. OR, it may reset them, which would be the opposite of what you want.
Could you provide any advice for future users who have this question?

Deleting a dminesion through rules file.

You can't delete a dimension through a rules file. Do you mean you want to delete all members before rebuilding the same dimension or actually remove the dimension altogether?
The only way to remove a dimension is to have a 'template' or 'stub' outline without the dimension and copy it over your real outline (probably after clearing all data). If what you really want is to rebuild the dimension containing only the members in your source, then the 'Remove Unspecified' dimension build setting can be used.

\\Error Reading Rules File when dimbuild with DLR

I create a DLR via the web console EAS (11.1.2.1 too) : a very simple one : dimbuild DLR, ";" as separator, 2 fields (parent and child)
when i try do do a "Update Ouline..." with a very simple file (1 line : accounts;test) I have this error message "\\Error Reading Rules File"
I don't know if it can help but if I create the same DLR on another 7.1 essbase serveur through this same wec eas console (11.1.2.1), I have no problem...
another information, too : my 11.1.2.1 server has a //ESS_LOCALE English_UnitedStates.Latin1@Binary ESSLANG. My 7.1 server has a //ESS_LOCALE French_France.ISO-8859-15@Default ESSLANG. I really don't know if there is a link, or absolutely not.

unable to load essmsh.exe : the error message seems to indicate that it is a problem with a path in the environment variables.
So if you say that the "Error Reading Rules File" is typically a path issue, all is probably linked!
The admin will probably correct that tomorrow : I let you know if it solves the problem!
