Customize Outlook Autodiscover Settings

I would maybe remove anything else you have setup and just use one method for handling autodiscover, generally my preference would just be a basic cname record so autodiscover.yourdomain.com points to autodiscover.hostedprovider.com - this should be more than enough for Outlook to work with.Other things to check are whether you previously had any onsite Exchange servers and to confirm they were uninstalled correctly as otherwise it could be that there are old Exchange objects in AD that your Outlook is trying to connect to first (on domain joined PC's Outlook will check in AD for an SCP before using the regular Autodiscover checks). Unfortunately more than a few inexperienced admins just shutdown their exchange servers thinking this is enough and don't realise that unless they do a full uninstall before shutting down the server it...

This is perfectly fine as is, by default Outlook will attempt a few different locations where Autodiscover may exist, only 1 of these needs to be valid for it to work correctly:- Checks https://domain.com/Autodiscover/autodiscover.xml- Checks https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml- Checks for an SRV record for autodiscover.domain.comEither of these will normally on exist for on-premises Exchange and even then only for the primary domain, for secondary domains or hosted Exchange setups Outlook will then attempt these methods:- Checks http://domain.com/Autodiscover/autodiscover.xmlto see if there is a HTTP Redirect.- Checks http://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xmlto see if there is a HTTP Redirect.- Checks for an SRV record for autodiscover.domain.com.These checks only take a couple of seconds...

  • OCT settings to pre-populate user name/initials and accept Outlook autodiscover settings?

In the interest of a better user experience and reduced support calls, I'd like new Office installations to be as hands-off as possible.  With the Customization Tool, I've gotten 99% of the way there.  There are just two items remaining:
When opening the Office components for the first time, the user is prompted for a name and initials.  I'm already putting those into system variables.  How can I use OCT to prepopulate those values and eliminate the dialog box?
We have autodiscover configured for our Exchange 2007 installation, and that works without issue.  On first opening Outlook, the user is prompted to "allow this website to configure
emailaddress server settings?" and an option to not ask again.  How can I use OCT to eliminate this dialog by accepting the setting and not prompting again?

  • Outlook anywhere settings, in Autodiscover?

So in Outlook, I got all my Outlook Anywhere settings configured, great! But where do I go to edit them on the server?
I don't have a GPO for any of this and I gather Outlook Anywhere is configured in Autodiscover? Is it EMS?

First, run set-outlookprovider -identity EXPR -Server servername and get-outlookanywhere |fl command in EMS. This command will let you know about the configuration of Outlook. You can edit the Outlook Anywhere configuration by using the custom installation
wizard. Autodiscover is simply the best way for managing Outlook configurations.
    Set-OutlookProvider EXPR -OutlookProviderFlags:ServerExclusiveConnect
You can run this powershell command to make connection with the Outlook Anywhere using TCP/IP.
You can easily change the OutlookProviderFlags to change/edit the Outlok anywhere seetings e.g. you can set the value to ServerExclusiveConnect or to None to clear the flag
Hi Blake - can you change the first line to be get-outlook provider -identity EXPR  ?  Its currently at "set-"
Not sure if I'd be recommending the serverExclusiveConnect option off the bat, most customers I see do not leverage that.   Do they want to do OA internally too?  I don't see that mentioned above
The OutlookProviderFlags parameter specifies that Outlook 2010 clients should connect using RPC over HTTP (Outlook Anywhere) before trying RPC over TCP connections. This increases the speed at which Outlook 2010 clients will connect when clients
are primarily accessing Exchange over the Internet. The value can be set to
ServerExclusiveConnect or to None to clear the flags. For Outlook 2010 clients that access Exchange over both organization intranets and the Internet, the recommended value is
None, which is also the default setting.

  • Outlook autodiscover is not working for some users in coexistence

    Hi
We are doing exchnage 2013/2010 coexistence
Most everything is ok BUT outlook autodiscover is not working for some exchange 2010 users now that 2013 is in the front!!!.  We end up creating the profiles manually.  It has affected some but not all the users.
I followed the instructions here but it didn't help.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/tips_from_the_inside/archive/2012/01/11/autodiscover-fails-for-one-or-more-users.aspx
    Using outlook 2010, 2013, patches, .... didn't make a difference
    Would you please help?
    Thank you

    Hi
If it is affecting only few handful of users i could suspect a mailbox corruption and would recommend to move mailbox and see the results.
    Also you can try below
You need to set the values MaxFieldLength, MaxRequestBytes & MaxTokenSize to below on Exchange 2010 CAS servers as well as Exchange 2013 CAS servers
    Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters
    Name: MaxFieldLength
    Type: DWORD
    Value: 65534
    Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\HTTP\Parameters
    Name: MaxRequestBytes
    Type: DWORD
    Value: 16777216
    Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\Kerberos\Parameters
    Name: MaxTokenSize
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Value: 48000
Just reboot the servers once its done and you will be good to go.

  • Outlook view settings not saved

I have one user who looses all View settings when restarting Outlook. Occasionally they will save, but it is very rare. Setting the Reading Pane to Off is one good example of a setting that does not save.
The creation of new Views is also not saved. After restarting Outlook, the new View does not appear in Manage All Views.
I have tried creating a new Outlook profile and I'm told that Office 2013 C2R has been re-installed since this problem started.
Outlook 2013 Click-To-Run via an Office 365 E3 subscription. Exchange Online mailbox. Windows 7 Pro 32-bit.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Basically, Outlook view settings are stored in the default data file. If the data file is corrupt or recreated every time Outlook restarts, the view settings may be not saved.
Does the user use Outlook with Cached Exchange mode enabled? If so, please go to
C:\Users\%username%\Documents\Outlook Files and check if you have multiple .ost files in the folder.
In addition, you may try to switch to turn off Cached Exchange mode and then test this issue again.
Please let me know the result.

  • New Outlook Email Settings

I have gotten the "Second Notice" email instructing me to change my Outlook email settings.  I have tried to do it for two hours or more, just on my main computer. My outgoing settings are fine, but when I try to switch the Port number for incoming and then test settings, I have to wait  and wait and finally get get an error message. I have tried restarting, as instructed, with no luck.  This leaves me wondering if this is an authentic email.  I haven't tried to change settings on my other 3 devices,
I am using Outlook2010.  My current incoming port is 110.

The changes encompass more than just the port setting. I'm not sure what version of Outlook you are using, but here is what it looks like in the version I have when I set up (fake) account "[email protected]" with current settings:

  • Customize Outlook Today 2013

I would like to customize outlook today so I can see tasks in specific task folders.  I do not want to see just Todays Tasks but I have task folders such as Personal Tasks, Office Tasks, Goals,  and so on.  The alternative would
be to show the categories of the tasks but I would prefer to have the ability to add task folders.
There is a lot of screen space in outlook today so it makes sense to offer more customization.
Also, Would be nice to also see the top stories from LinkedIn and Facebook etc....

    Hi,
Outlook Today contains a Customize Outlook Today button that allows you to customize the following components:
    Startup
    Messages
    Calendar
    Tasks
    Styles
Outlook doesn't provide an option to show specific task folders, we can only set it show All Tasks or Today's Tasks.
For more information about Customize Outlook Today, please refer:

If you want to add the top stories from LinkedIn and Facebook to Outlook Today, you can right-click on the top level of your mailbox and select Data File Properties > Home Page tab, just copy the URL for the top stories from LinkedIn and Facebook
within browser and paste it to the Address field.

  • Outlook 2011 Outlook anywhere settings won't stick

We recently enabled Outlook Anywhere on our EX2010 Std server. When we tried testing with our Outlook 2011 for
Mac clients we can get AutoDiscover to work both externally and internally. The problem is AutoDiscover always puts the EWS URL to the internal one and not the external one. Externally it works for the initial session and then all subsequent session try contacting
the internal URL. Is there any way to stop that behavior or should I use the same External URL for the internal URL in EWS?

  • Exchange 2013 Upgrade to CU7 from SP1 - installs successfully - Can no longer connect via ECP/OWA/Powershell/Outlook/Autodiscover

    Hi There,
I am having massive issues with my Exchange Server.
I have 2 Nodes, one has CAS and Mailbox Roles, the other just Mailbox.
I "upgraded" the CAS server to CU7 without any errors / issues.
Once I had restarted, nothing worked any more..  I couldn't access ECP, OWA, Powershell, Autodiscover or get outlook to connect.
I managed to get Powershell working, but changing the physical directory to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\ClientAccess\PowerShell" from "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\FrontEnd\HttpProxy\PowerShell"
But for the life of me I cannot get ECP or OWA working (haven't even tried anything else)!
I am getting a load of Events with ID 1003.
The only error I am getting is:
    Server Error in '/ecp' Application.

Unfortunately this is very urgent for me a these are production servers and currently there is no email for my company.
So Please please please can someone help.
I have tried many many many things from various sites, and so far nothing has worked.
    Thanks,
    -Tim

    Hi Tim,
We can do the following steps to have a try:
    1. Check Application settings in IIS Application under Exchange Back End web site for BinSearchFolders value.
    a. Open IIS Manager. Expand Sites > Exchange Back End.
    b. Click ecp. Open Application Settings in /ecp Home.
    c. Please check whether the value for “BinSearchFolders” is changed to an invalid value.
    2. Verify Authentication settings for OWA and ECP.
    a. In IIS manager > Default Web Site, make sure Anonymous Authentication is Enabled in Authentication.
    b. Confirm that "Require SSL" is checked on the root of the default website.
    c. Make sure the Basic and Forms authentications are enabled in Default Web Site and Ntlm, WindowsIntegrated authentication methods are enabled in Exchange Back End for both OWA and ECP.

  • Autodiscover settings not working publicly

On https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com, the Exchange ActiveSync Autodiscover test Connectivity Test Successful with Warnings.
However on any smart phone or mobile device, the Exchange settings are not auto populating once I enter the username and password. I have to fill in the server address manually. Outlook autoconfigure works internally.  Any reason why the public auto
    discover does not work?

Please test Activesync autodiscover  uisng https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/
As suggested above you will have to set UPN to match your email address. A similar thread down

  • Outlook Anywhere settings in a Exchange 2013 coexistence scenario with Exchange 2007

I have exchange 2013 and 2007 set up in a coexist environment.  At the moment, the few mailboxes I am testing on Exchange 2013 are getting multiple pop ups in outlook and cannot connect to items like Public Folders on 2007.  I found an article
that told me to change the authentication method from Negotiate to NTLM and that broke some of my Lync 2013 compatibility issues on users on exchange 2007 (ie conversation history and they got outlook integration errors.)  I would like someone to confirm
if the change I am about to make from doing research will help me in my situation.
    Current Setup:
    Exchange 2007 OA CAS Settings
    ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Basic
    InternalClientAuthenticationMethod: NTLM
    IISAuthenticationMethods : {Basic, Ntlm}
    Exchange 2013 OA CAS Settings
    ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Negotiate
    InternalClientAuthenticationMethod: Negotiate
    IISAuthenticationMethods : {Basic, Ntlm, Negotiate}
New Settings I am considering based on research:
    Exchange 2007 OA CAS Settings
    ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Basic
    InternalClientAuthenticationMethod: Basic
    IISAuthenticationMethods : {NTLM}
    Exchange 2013 OA CAS Settings
    ExternalClientAuthenticationMethod : Basic
    InternalClientAuthenticationMethod: Basic
    IISAuthenticationMethods : {Basic}
Will this work and eliminate my popups?

    Hi,
The following TechNet article indicates that:
“In order to support access for Outlook Anywhere clients whose mailboxes are on legacy versions of Exchange, you will need to make some changes to your environment which are documented in the steps within the
    Exchange Deployment Assistant. Specifically,
you will need to enable Outlook Anywhere on your legacy Client Access servers and enable NTLM in addition to basic authentication for the IIS Authentication Method.”

As for the Autodiscover service, please make sure the Autodiscover.domain.com is pointed to your Exchange 2013 in Internal and External DNS. For more detailed information about Exchange 2013 coexistence with Exchange 2007, please refer to:

  • Outlook Autodiscover forces IMAP

I have Exchange 2007 SP3, two CAS boxes. ExRCA works successfully, in both AutoDiscover and Outlook AnyWhere tests. All tests seem to work internally as well. Internally Outlook configures a Microsoft Exchange (RPC/HTTPs) connection. Externally Outlook configures
an IMAP connection. I read somewhere that you can force AutoDiscover to prefer RPC/HTTPs, but I can't find that setting.
How can I force AutoDiscover to prefer RPC/HTTPs.

With all due respect, AutoDiscover DOES "push" IMAP; check here for the functionality to not only tell your clients to use IMAP, but to prefer IMAP -
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc511507(v=office.14).aspx. Please note this documentation shows nothing on RPC or MAPI (I have a theory on what is correct, but I was hoping someone might actually know).
As for the rest, yes ExRCA shows a successful AutoDiscover test (see below). This alone should answer all of your questions, but...
There is no ISA or layer 7 firewall between the clients and the Exchange server.
    We use a wildcard certificate.
domain.com/autodiscover does not work on purpose.
autodiscover.domain.com gets the standard base XML response:
      <?xml
    version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
    - <Autodiscover
    xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/autodiscover/responseschema/2006">
