Customize size of info/crop/fit marks on export.

I have encountered a problem when exporting PDF files from Illustrator and InDesign via Distiller. The silk screen printing company that recieved my printed films (colour separated) say the info in the slug area is way too small. This includes the info text with file name, and the fit marks (?), the small circles with a cross through. According to the print shop, these are so small (appr 4mm) they are practically useless. I tried the thickest line available in the printing dialogue (0,5p), but even though the lines got a little bit thicker, the marks were still very small. Surely there must be a way to increase the size of the generated text and marks?
I use Adobe CS6 Design Standard w Acrobat X Pro.

The print shop does not have the equipment to print the films themselves. This is a pretty old school silk screen printing company. Their requirements are simply, one spot colour per each film, name of job and Pantone colour, and fit marks for lining up the artwork on each film. The separation to pdf in Distiller works perfect except for the tiny info and marks. The person who did this before me used Corel and made multiple copies of the artwork, recoloured each spot colour to black and drew fit marks manually. A tedious job that normally took hours. With distiller this is done in a few seconds.

  • Crop/Trim Marks Wrong Position: Quark 6, PS File, Distiller 8 (Poster Sizes)

I am having a similar problem as a Quark 7 user making PDFs of posters:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.3c05836f
Acrobat Distiller 8 is moving my document's bottom trim marks into the wrong position. They appear too high on the PDF instead of all the way at the bottom.
    1. Create 24"x36" document in Quark 6.52
    2. Choose "File -> Export Layout as PDF"
    3. Select crops and bleeds in Export Options
    4. Save Postscript file to desktop
    5. Drag and drop the .ps file onto Distiller 8
The resulting PDF has the bottom crop marks (trim marks) in the wrong position. If I drop the .ps file onto Distiller 4, Distiller 5, or Preview, the crop marks show up in the correct position.
Adobe Tech Support verified that the problem occurs in Distiller 8. They recommended that I upgrade to Distiller 9, which appears to be fixed.
My own workaround so far is to Print from Quark to the Adobe PDF 8.0 "printer" that gets installed with Acrobat. I can then manually set my page size to 25"x37" to fit the crop marks.
If anyone would like to see examples of the issue, or try it out for themselves, I have uploaded sample files to my web server.

If anybody else has ideas, please share them. I was hoping that there would be an update that addressed the issue, but it appears that Adobe will never fix this in Distiller 8 because they consider it "fixed" in Distiller 9.
For reference, I am using a Powermac G4 "Sawtooth" with a 1.2GHz G4 CPU, 1.25GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.4.11 "Tiger", Quark 6.52, and Creative Suite 3 Design Standard (CS3) with Acrobat Professional 8.1.2.

Indeed, if fixed in 9 then it will not be included in 8 ...

PS - have you thought about leaving off the marks from Quark and then
adding inside Acrobat within Print Production / Add Marks / ?

  • Do I need to export multiple sizes for all standard print sizes? i.e.Say I crop the image in LR to 6'5" x 9' to fit within an 11" x 14" (overall) mat of a framed print.. Now let's say I want to reprint that same image in a 12" x 16" size ... to fit within

Do I need to export multiple sizes for all standard print sizes? i.e.Say I crop the image in LR to 6'5" x 9' to fit within an 11" x 14" (overall) mat of a framed print.. Now let's say I want to reprint that same image in a 12" x 16" size ... to fit within a mat of with overall size of 20" x 24"? Or will the 1st export be "locked" at 6.5" X 9" (proportionately)?

So, for the first one Export it cropped to 6.5 x 9 - and in the Export Dialog box there is a capability to rename the file for exported output - which would allow you to add something like the crop or intention to the base name of the file.  e.g. for _IMG0846.nef - setup the output filename to _IMG0846-65x9 for 11x14.jpg and output it at, say 300 or 360 dpi.  So, it has a unique name and purpose in your output folder.
For best results, now, re-crop the picture in LR - just open the crop [R] dialog again, reframe the image to the new ratio, 12x16 and Export again - with an adjustment to the filename. e.g. _IMG0846-12x16 for 20x24.jpg
So, now you have two clearly identified image files in your output area and you can provide those to whomever is printing for you, etc.  Discard them when you're done since you always have the original to return to to re-frame again as necessary.
This way you get output sharpening and resolution (in pixels) optimized for your output print size.  Maybe not super important for smallish prints-but more important for larger ones.   Output at 100 quality.

  • How to calculate Page Size that allows for Trim Marks?

I have made a Word document in 4.75" x 7' Page Size and the print company is demanding they have Trim Marks so they can
cut the document to the precise size.
I went to Save As in the Word doc and converted the Word doc to PDF, no problem.
Then I found how to insert Trim Marks onto the PDF using Adobe Pro 9.
The Trim Marks are L shaped but with the 90 degree corner bit missing so they look like 2 straight lines that would tell the
print company where the sides and the top and the bottom are to be cut if the 2 lines were extended to the intersection of the L.
Something like this for Top Left   _I   and this for the Top Right    I_    and the mirror of those two for the bottom Trim Marks -
However when I use Acrobat Pro 9 to insert Trim Marks on a 4.75" x 7' Page Size, the Trim Marks themselves encroach on
the print area by about 9 mm or just under 0.375" because they are marking the corner of the page but it reduces the Page Size
by about 9 mm or just under 0.375" if I leave them there, ie, by the length of the Trim Marks themselves.
Is there a way to position Trim Marks where I want them?
If not then I presume I need to make my original Page Size bigger by the length of the Trim Marks all round?
If I need to up my original Page Size to accommodate the Trim Marks I need to know the exact length of the Trim Marks don't I?
Other wise if I get the length of the Trim Marks wrong they could either encroach slightly on the printed area or denote the
    wrong Page Size.
Or perhaps I've got it wrong and it's not the 90 degree intersection that marks the Page Size but rather it is the other ends of the
Trim Marks where the Trim Marks touch the border of the 4.75" x 7' Page Size that denotes the Trim Size?
But that would mean the Trim Marks do not show up on the Camera Ready page and are not seen after printing but somehow I
    don't think that's the case.
The attachment is a screen shot showing the Trim Marks on my 4.75" x 7' Page Size PDF.
Help would be very much appreciated.

Go to the Crop Pages command first and choose a page size bigger than the one you want. In Acrobat 8 it is at the bottom of the dialog box where it says change page sizes. Make sure to select for all the pages you want to have crops for. This will make the pages larger, but still no trim marks yet.
Next to to Advanced, Print Production, Add Printer Marks, choose trim marks. Make sure you have selected all the pages you wanted the trim marks to appear on. The trim marks will appear on your pages.
Kinda reverse of what you'd expect, but it will do it.
By the way this needs Acrobat Pro, not Reader.

  • Output the same size as the cropped video - to Quicktime

I have cropoped and resized my video and want to export it to quicktime the same as the cropped size.
I have tried to follow the instructions at this link, using the Crop button. I followed the instructions:  "To crop the image interactively, drag the sides or corner handles of the crop box around the source image."
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/4.0/WS877FE27E-DDE6-4c35-9158-D1E1F5DEEEF2.html
However, I don't see the "Change Output Size to automatically set the frame height and frame width of the output to the height and width of the cropped frame".  Using CS4 and exporting to quicktime 32 bit export.
So instead of doing the crop it is exporting it at 1440 x 1080.
Is it possible to crop and export to Quicktime?
    Thanks
    Rowby

    To further explain --
THe crop setting in the Export Setting dialog box gives me two drop down options:
    Scale to fit
    Black Borders
"Change Output Size" is greyed out -- even though I have the image cropped in the Export Settings "Source" tab.
    Exporting to Quicktime/Animation/32 bit
And in the Export Settings Video settings the width remains at the source's 1440, 1080. The "Constrain width and height" button is unchecked.  Aspect is set for D1/DV NTSC Widescreen 16.9.....

  • IPhoto keeps reducing photo size when I crop (from 3MB to 500KB).  I want to keep the edited versions at the higher MB size!  Any help with this?

I've been using iPhoto for years with good success.  Recently, when I edit and crop artwork photos, it's been saving the cropped photo as a much smaller version, going from around 3MB to only 500KB or smaller.  I need the cropped version to be as big as the original.  Not sure why this is happening but could use some help in making it stop.  Thanks!

    Hi,
I know that I'm cropping the physical file but in the past this wasn't an issue for the size of the cropped piece.   Even if I take just a little bit away, the file size is somehow getting deeply reduced.  Resolution is still fine on the screen or for a quick email,  but for when I need to make a high quality giclee print for a client, the 500Kb size just won't do.  I need to retain the 2Mb original quality.  I'm attaching the examples here.  And thanks so much for helping !

  • Mail Signature: image size keeps changing to fit window

When adding a logo image to a signature in mail, the image is not remaining the same size, it changes in size semingly to fit the width of the window that the email happens to be in. Mostly the image is showing larger than the window itself. We are having this problem on imac (snow leopard) and brand new macbook pro (mountain lion). I have tried using PNG and JPEG files but both have the same problem. Older signatures (2 years old) show the image correctly keeping it the same size. Any advice muchly appreciated : )

I worked it out in the end - I had 2 things too big in my image settings; the canvas size (which was 14cm long!) and he DPI (which was 300dpi) I have since changed to approx 8cm long and 100DPI and it now displays the logo in the signature without increasing the size of it to fit the size of the window. My only issue now is trying to get the image to still show in the reply thread, so that when you look down the email conversation you can see the logo in each of the previous email signatures. This one is stumping me!

  • After a re-install, it is impossible in Photoshop CS4 Extended to give a preset size to the Crop Tool. How can I het it back?

After a re-install of Photoshop CS4 Extended, because of problems with my iMac, it is impossible to give a preset size to the Crop Tool. How is that possible - and how can I repair that?

Did you trash the Photoshop's preferences before re-installing?
Reinstalling without trashing the preferences is futile, as you still have all the corruption there.
Quit Photoshop now and trash preferences:
Hold down Command, Option, and Shift keys while starting up Photoshop. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to delete the preferences/settings file.  Click on yes.

  • Can you save your crop/bleed marks as well as your slug when saving your Indeign document as an eps

Can you save your crop/bleed marks as well as your slug when saving your Indeign document as an eps

Let me guess: Your printer asked you to do this, right? Your printer is living in the 1990s and is probably trying to place this in a QuarkXPress file. And I'll suggest you should run, not walk, to find another more modern printer!
But, if you have to do it, you could export as a PDF file (including the marks, bleeds and slug). Then in Acrobat, choose File > Export (Acrobat 9 Pro) or File > Save as > Other Formats > Encapsulated PostScript (Acrobat X Pro).

  • Illustrator CS4 crops my artwork when exporting to png

Illustrator CS4 crops my artwork when exporting to png (it always crops on the right side). It doesn't happen everytime but often enough to be annoying. Sometimes centering my artwork in the artboard solves the problem but not always. Do you have any idea why it's happening, and what I can do to avoid that problem?
    (See the attached png)

@Jacob & Mylenium: I don't have any stroked path in my artwork. I've tried to add a no fill/no stroke rectangle (same size as my artwork and then a bit bigger) but it didn't work.
Your advices gave me an idea though: I've added a filled rectangle slightly bigger than my artwork, centered it and dropped its opacity to 0%, it worked.
I'm glad I know that trick now, because even when my artwork wasn't badly cropped, it was touching the edges of the picture (png). Then I had to open it in Photoshop and increase the canvas size in order to leave some transparent space between the artwork and the edges of the picture. Now I can do that in Illustrator
Thanks a lot for your help !

  • GPS Altitude Not in Extended Photo Info or EXIF Dat ahwne exported

    Hi,
I have my own website that uses a Goggle Maps plugin to read and show GPS info for photos I upload. When I use Places to capture that info the Altitude info is not stored either in iPhoto's database or in the EXIF info for the photo when exported. Is there anyway get this info stored in the database and phot when exported?
The Google Maps plugin on my site makes use of the Altitude details to show a more close up image depending on the altitude chosen. Without this info the site just shows a extremely high level world map with a pin showing in the country where the picture was taken. Not particularly useful. So I have to go and edit each file on my website and manually add this info. Which is very time consuming.

    Jennec
iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
There is no provision in iPhoto to add altitude at this time - iPhoto should maintain the EXIF data that is imported - if it is not then I certainly would report that as a bug
When I show extended photo info in iPhoto for photos it shows the altitude - I presume it exports - will test later

  • Incorrect page size when creating PDF from Excel 2013 (export and print)

I am in the USA so everything tends to default to 8½"x11" ... but I created a document in Excel with A size settings. I have attempted to export it to PDF with every setting I can find set to A4 and I have attempted to print the document to PDF again with every setting I can find set to A4 (page size, layout - advanced - paper/output - paper size - A4) with all scaling turned off and yet when I open the finished document in Acrobat XI Pro (with all updates installed) the document properties lists it as 8½"x11". I don't see any resize document settings in Acrobat or any other reason it would be anything but A4 in Acrobat's settings, and I've even had someone in our design department that uses Acrobat extensively look at my steps and they don't see where I'm making any mistakes.
Does anyone here have any suggestions?

Notice in the illustration the button Page setup.
Click on that and see if you can set printer from there.
I don't know whether this is in the PC version.
This is an adobe dumb idea inserting a Print menu in between a print menu and the printer, and not allowing the Printer to do the control Setup itself.
One of them ideas that came up when a developer was sitting around twidling his thumbs, and saying hey lets do this.  Another idea That comes along with this, is the inserted property feature called simplex printing. If you want to print a PDF duplex you can setin printer till cows come home and you blue in the face. Won't print Duplex.  You have to Click Propties and Locate the command simplex, and turn off.

  • How can I add to page size and add crop marks?

I have a 50 page pdf file, A4, RGB. There are no crop marks. I need to add 1/2" to each dimension on each page (centering the image, of course), add crop marks for A4 size, convert to CMYK, to make press ready. I'm having trouble with each aspect of this. When I expand the page size then try to crop to A4, Acrobat tells me that the crop marks may overlap the art and I should consider cropping. I click okay, get the crop window, and that doesn't seem to work either. I'd love to create an action to do this but I can't even perform any of the pieces of it!
I am working on a PC, running Windows 7, Acrobat XI Pro CC.
