Customize Top Level Navigation Menu

How do I customize the TLN menu options to show only the ones i need, nstead of the standard 'Java Development, System Adminstration and so on...'. I want to remove these standard menu options for a set of roles.
Thanks
Sid

Hi Sid,
when you go on Useradministration -> Roles and select a user, you might see some roles gray out because of other dependencies. For example you can not remove ContentManager and JavaDeveloper because this roles have been assign to some groups to which this user belongs.
The best way to check this, is to go to Useradminstration -> Roles, and search the role "ContentManager". Select it and check if it is assign to a specific group in which your users might belong.
Eric, SAP recommends to assign the eu_role to the group "All Users", so that every user has some content when entering the portal. But this is not done by any installation automatically as far as I know.
Best regards,
Robert

Then when clicking on the second tab it will not open, instead the first tab open up again, it sort of switches back automatically.These  two roles  are  basically consists of worksets and iviews(accessing to r/3).

    Hi George
    On startup of the role an iview was called which opened a gif file stored in the KM. This iview wasn't added to any page so I basically did just that; added it to a page. Now the problem seems to have gone away!

  • Show a menu of roles in the Top Level Navigation

    Hello,
    Imagine a scenario where a user has many roles assigned to him (say 40 roles). In that case the user will have 40 tabs in the first level of the top level navigation and by default a horizontal scroller appears on the right part of the screen clicking on which the roles will scroll horizontally. If the user has to go to the 40th role he has to click quite a lot.
    Is it possible to have a menu option clciking on which we get the all the list of roles in the top level navigation in a vertical list and we can directly jump to any role clicking on the entry in the list ?
    Something like what we get in a tab strip in Web Dynpro.
    Thanks in advance for your valuable inputs.

    Hi,
    Yes it is possible to have menus as you wish .
    Look at the following links
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/6066b302-09c8-2a10-a894-eb9fef30df85

    You need to work on navigation tag libraries to extend number of levels .
    The above inks helps you only for single level of navigation.

  • Drop down menu for top level navigation

    Dear All,
    I recently had a quick peek at SAP's corporate Portal, which has a drop down menu in the top level navigation that dynamically changes the secondary level navigation based on the option selected.
    We are currently running a standard portal (<b>not</b> an external facing lightweight framework portal), does anyone know how to achieve a similar result so that we can provide a drop-down menu to allow the user to dynamically change their role structure?
    Many thanks
    James

    Hi James,
    We have implemented such thing two years ago, also without EFP (with the light framework, it's easy). It took some days (more than 5) to change every JS, JSP etc which has to be touched for this. In the end, the first level of the navigation had been moved up into the dropdownbox, so that when changing the ddb, the two lines of the originabl TLN showed in fact the second and the third level (and the DTN starting with the fourth level).
    It was really nice, but keep in mind that this means modifying the standard and maintaining this solution with new SPS coming up...
    Hope it helps

  • Personalize Top Level Navigation.

    Hi,
    We are planning to implement some customization to portal Top Level Navigation.
    In our system we are having around 20 roles, We need to display only five roles at a time in TLN TAB. Remaining will be accessible on clicking More Tab (After fifth role), which will display remaining roles in hover menu.
    We acheived this part successfully.
    The second part of the requirement is, user should able to personalize the order(sort priority) of his role. So that he can always display frequently using role first.
    How we can develop this part.
    Please feel free to write any thoughts on this.
    Regards
    Baby

    Alex,
    Thanks for the reply.
    That's exactlly my requirement. I like to discuss more on this.
    Can u explain me what do you mean by storing in database? I need more help on this part.
    My inital thought was to create an application which will function in a simliar way of end user personalization of iviews and pages.
    SInce all the sort informations are maintained at entry point (role) level, should i go at each role and maintain personalized information.
    Is it practilcally feasible to create an application to manage all these personalizations.
    Is there any other simiple solution to this.

  • Top Level Navigation jumps to wrong workset

    Hi,
    In our portal (SP15), rather than loading the first page/iview of each workset in the top level navigation, we wanted a starter page that said something like 'click a menu item to continue'. To achieve this, I created the relevant URL iview and added it (delta-link) to each workset that appeared in the TLN. I then changed the properties of the iview so that it was Invisible in the Navigation AND Default Entry for Folder. So now when you click on a TLN node, the iview appears but doesn't show in the menu.
    However, this has created some strange behaviour. Once a node on the TLN has been selected that points to proper page or iview (i.e. one that appears in the navigation), if you then click on any workset on the second level (first level ones are ok), the TLN "jumps" back to the node which has the page/iview - but still shows the starter page iview. This means that users can't access any workset on the second level, except the first one to be displayed (i.e. when you have several nested worksets in a workset).
    Can anyone explain why this is happening? The problem only occurs when the starter iview is both Invisible in the Navigation AND Default Entry for the Folder. Is this expected behaviour (and if so, why?) or is it a bug? Is there another way to achieve what we want?
    Many thanks
    Jane

    If I do that, the iview does not appear because I already have an Entry Point above that level (i.e. the Workset). Entry Point as Yes only sets the initial navigation node, it doesn't force an iview to appear. (or at least this is what my testing has shown).
    We may have to rethink how we can do this - does anyone know of a way to stop the first iview/page loading in every TLN node, and instead just showing the portal background?
    Many thanks
    Jane

  • Creating a dropdown for Roles in Top Level Navigation

    Hi,
    I am trying to customize the com.sap.portal.navigation.toplevel.par file.
    Can anybody please help me to create a dropdown for various roles in the portal,if the user clicks on the first role in the Top Level Navigation ,he should see a dropdown list with worksets of the role.
    Any help would be really appreciated
    Thanks
    Art Tech.

    Hello Art Tech,
    I hope I understand you right. You want to change the appearance of the custom built TLN according to the currently chosen portal theme, just like the standard TLN would change its appearance.
    Well, if so, then there are two ways:
    1) The HTML and styles/classes of your custom built TLN are still more or less the same as in the standard or you can at least reuse most of the standard HTML output/structure, then applying a new theme would also affect your custom TLN.
    2) You have your own HTML output for the TLN, not relying on anything from the standard TLN, and you most probably work with a custom stylesheet file (e.g. "tln.css"). What you have to do then is to provide a set of TLN stylesheet files for each portal theme you want to support and include it accordingly by retrieving the current theme's name via the ILafService (Look & Feel Service). Or you rely on only one CSS file, then have as many "blocks" of styles (marked with a preceding class selector like in e.g. ".themeNameA ul li a " and ".themeNameB ul li a ") as you have themes, and put a bracket around the TLN-output with class="currentThemeName". For this last approach I give you the sample code (assuming you want to support the themes "SAP Standard", "SAP Tradeshow" and "SAP Chrome"):
    The TLN code: tln.jsp
    &gt;<%@ taglib uri="NavigationTagLibrary" prefix="nav" %>
    &gt;<%@ page import = "com.sapportals.portal.prt.service.laf.*" %>
    &gt;<%@ page import = "com.sapportals.portal.prt.runtime.PortalRuntime" %>
    &gt;<%
    &gt;// include the TLN stylesheet
    &gt;response.include(componentRequest, componentRequest.getResource("css", "css/tln.css"));
    &gt;
    &gt;// retrieve the current theme's technical name
    &gt;ILAFService iLAFService = (ILAFService)PortalRuntime.getRuntimeResources().getService(ILAFService.KEY);
    &gt;String currentTheme = iLAFService.getCurrentTheme(componentRequest).getThemeName();
    &gt;%>
    &gt;
    &gt;&lt;div class="<%=currentTheme%>"&gt;
    &gt;  &lt;ul&gt;
    &gt;  <nav:iterateInitialNavNodes>
    &gt;    &lt;li&gt;<nav:navNodeAnchor navigationMethod="byURL" />
    &gt;    <!-- second level ? -->
    &gt;    &lt;/li&gt;
    &gt;  </nav:iterateInitialNavNodes>
    &gt;  &lt;/ul&gt;
    &gt;&lt;/div&gt;
    The stylesheet: tln.css
    &gt;.sap_standard ul li {background-color:#FFCCCC}
    &gt;.sap_standard ul li a
    &gt;
    &gt;.sap_tradeshow ul li {background-color:#CCCCFF}
    &gt;.sap_tradeshow ul li a
    &gt;
    &gt;.sap_chrome ul li {background-color:#CCCCCC}
    &gt;.sap_chrome ul li a
    I hope this solves your problems.

  • Customizing Top level navigation

    Hi,
    I have requirement where in i have to customize the top level navigation. Insted of hyper links display i have to show them like buttons, not exactly buttons but the hyperlinks shown for the navigation should be removed.
    Is it possible to show with out links and once click on the respective workset should be able to navigate that workset.
    Is it possible to place image for each workset navigation in top level navigation.
    Regards,
    Ravi.

    Hi Darrell,
    I checked that code and it is using the navHelperServer.getQuickLink method where it gets the Quick Link Value of the pages i guess.
    I could not find the method details and the declaration of this method in the help. Is it the custom method written of that class.
    I am using the below standard code of the LightTopLevelNavigation.
    I guess i need to put the custom code between the navNodeAnchor Tags of Selected and non selected Nodes.

  • ByEPCM top level navigation in between federated portals

    Hi Everyone,
    we're currently having an issue where our bespoke top level navigation isn't working properly between our federated EP and CE systems. The TLN is a hover menu style navigation and uses byEPCM to navigate. The problem occurs when the user logs on to EP, navigates to an iview that is on the CE box (via federation) and then tries to navigate back to an EP iview. Instead of displaying the iview the user sees "page not found" in the content area and has to reload the whole portal framework for it to work.
    The logs don't seem to suggest very much apart from it looking for the role/iview on the CE box as opposed to the EP box (??). This does not happen using the standard SAP TLN and also doesn't seem to happen when using byURL instead of byEPCM. Now,  the natural suggestion would be - why not use byURL instead? This is valid approach and I will test this but I distinctly remember that there was a reason why I used byEPCM as opposed to byURL in the first place (just can't remember what it was as it was a long time ago). In any case I will test this over the next few days.
    I can't help think though that this might be a config or security/permission setting somewhere on either EP or CE (probably CE). Anyone who has encountered this before and can maybe shed some light or have any suggestions on where to start looking?
    Thanks,
    Dion

    Hi Henrik,
    you could listen to the navigation event (just as the TLN does to navigate to the next page).
    Here is how it works (JS code):<pre>function myNavEventHandler(eventObj) {
        var navigationTarget="";
        if (typeof (eventObj.dataObject)=="string")
            navigationTarget = eventObj.dataObject;
        else
            navigationTarget = eventObj.dataObject.target;
        <i>// add code handling <b>navigationTarget</b></i>
    EPCM.subscribeEvent("urn:com.sapportals:navigation", "Navigate", myNavEventHandler);
    </pre>Put this code into an component/iView, then place it into the framework page.
    That should be it...
    Regards
    Sven

  • Problem with Back button in Top Level Navigation

    Hi all,
    We are facing a minor problem with the Back button in the Top Level Navigation in Portal. This button is present under the Roles and Worksets menu along with the History, Forward, and Add to Portal Favorites links.
    The problem is faced when we have some worksets under a single role. While browsing accross these worksets by randomly clicking on them, we wish to use the Back button as well to go back to the previous workset. But when we use the Back button, the Detailed Navigation panel in the last workset is not retrieved.
    I will explain with the System Administration Role. I open the worksets under this role in the following manner:
    First I open Transport;
    Next I open Portal Display;
    Next I open System Configuration;
    Now I wish to go back to Portal Display workset by clicking on the Back button. But when I do this, although the Portal Display workset opens up, but I cannot see the Detailed Navigation Panel. See the screenshot below:

    Hi,
    As Rightly said
    1)  First copy ESS folder created in "Content provided by SAP" under "Portal Content".
    2)  Copy standard ESS Role for u r customization
    3)  Open Custom Role "Employee Self Service"
    4)  Property Category : Navigation
    5)  Check Entry Point property
    It shuld be NO for Role but It shuld be YES for Workset ESS under it as per standard then Its Fine
    6)  Then Assign this role to u r User thru UserAdmin
    7)  Refresh
    It shuld work !!!!
