Customize Welcome Screen for Windows 7

Scenario
Windows 7 displays the Welcome screen which contains a list of available user accounts when the computer is a part of a workgroup or homegroup.
This article describes how to customize Welcome screen for Windows 7, and there are two display style for choice:
Logon screen
Last logon user and others
Summary
Method 1: Logon Screen
The Logon screen requires users to type a logon name rather than selecting an account from a list of available accounts.
Click Start, and type gpedit.msc in the Search to
launch Group Policy Editor;
Expand to the policy entry Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Optionss;
Double-Click the policy Interactive logon: Do not display last user name, click
Enabled, and then click OK;
Click Start, and type cmd in the Search box. Right-click
cmd.exe in the Programs list, and then click
Run as administrator. Type gpupdate /force and press
Enter to refresh the Group Policy.
After logging off or switching user, the customized welcome screen will be as shown below.
Method 2: Last logon user and others
Click Start, and type gpedit.msc in the Search to
launch Group Policy Editor;
Expand to the policy entry Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options. Check the security setting
Interactive logon: Do not display last user name to be disabled.
Click Start, and type regedit in the Search to
launch Registry Editor;
Locate to keyHKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList;
Right-click on ProfileList, then click New>Key, name it
.default.
Restart you PC or refresh Registry Editor by pressing F5.
After logging off or switching user, the customized welcome screen will be as shown below:
Applies to
Windows 7 Professional
Windows 7 Enterprise
Windows 7 Ultimate
Windows 7 SP1 Professional
Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise
Windows 7 SP1 Ultimate

Another customization:
To give your logon screen corporate design or individual style you can follow these steps:
In registry editor navigate to the key "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Authentication\LogonUI\Background".
Create a new DWORD value OEMBackground and assign value 1. (Value 0 resets to the original logon screen.)
In C:\Windows\system32\oobe\info create the folder backgrounds, if it does not exist.
Put your custom picture into this folder under the name backgroundDefault.jpg.
Attention: maximum supported file size is 256 KByte, so shrink them with a tool like Irfanview or Image Resizer Powertoy Clone.
If you want to use different pictures for different screen resolutions, you can do so by naming them backgroundXXXXxYYYY.jpg, i.e. background1920x1200.jpg for the resolution 1920 x 1200. If the resolution does not match any of the given file names, Windows
will fall back to backgroundDefault.jpg.
Best greetings from Germany

send portfolio- how to customize adobe welcome screen for shared porfolio ?(Opening the link forces the recipient to a downright ugly irrelevant and dead advertisement (appropriately titled "branding logo.png) rather a related cover page)

    Hi nedler1,
Please try the following steps to display the cover sheet and replace it with custom one:
How to change a portfolio’s initial view setting to show the cover sheet (and hide the contents):
Open a PDF portfolio and run the following JS in the console:
    this.collection.initialView = 'Hidden';
Save the portfolio, close and re-open.
The cover sheet will now be displayed when opening the portfolio.
    Updating the cover sheet
Also, most likely if you want the coversheet displayed when opening the portfolio, and do not want the default cover sheet:
Here are the steps to replace the default cover sheet:
    Open the Portfolio.
Perform a View > Portfolio > cover sheet to open the cover sheet.
Open the Pages panel for the cover sheet.
Right click on the cover sheet page in the pages panel, select “Replace Pages”.
Replace the cover sheet page with the desired cover from a page in another pdf.
    Save the portfolio.
    Regards,
    Rave

  • How to copy the International settings from current user to default user/welcome screen on Windows 8.1/ Server 2012R2 via PS script?

    Hi,
I have to script the international settings in virtual machines which are Win Server 2012R2 or Win 8/8.1.
For the current user, it's quite easy.
    new-WinUserLanguageList nl-BE
    set-WinUserLanguageList nl-BE
    Set-WinSystemLocale nl-BE
    set-Culture nl-BE
But how can I copy these settings to the Default user/Welcome screen? I cannot find a solution for that. Even on the site of Microsoft,
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh852115.aspx all CMDlets are only for the current user.
Maybe I'm looking with the wrong keywords, but... With Powershell v4 it should be possible, isn't it?
Thanks for looking together and hopefully we can find an answer.
    Kind reg,
    Dirk

Questions like this would best be answered in the deployment forum.
The default lock screen tracks the current user.  The system lock screen tracks the local system admin account.
There is a SYSTEM profile which, I believe, can be set via registry.

  • HT1349 I can't get past the welcome screen for my new macbook pro. Help!!

Seriously. My new macbook pro will not let me progress past the welcome screen. It will not let me select australia (or any other) country as its host country!!!!

I just had the exact same problem. You must physically push down on the trackpad and get an audible "click" to activate the continue button on the language screen. The one-touch click function is not yet enabled on your Macbook because you haven't set it up yet. This should work for you. It did for me!

  • `Skype 7 not working & freezing screen for Windows...

I upgraded from Windows 7 Home Basic to Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (64bit) 2 days back, and since then facing problem installing and running Skype. Skype 7 was working perfect on Home Basic. After reading through the various options given in the Forum, I have tried all the suggestions as below, but everytime there was a problem.
    Re-Installed Win 7 Ultimate X64 for around 5times - no resolution
    Re-Installed Skype 7 for around 10-15times - no resolution
Completed Windows Update - no resolution
Upgraded to IE 11 with all the patches.
Got latest version of Adobe Flash - no resolution
Got Latest version of Direct X - no resolution
Got latest JRE - no resolution
Tried changing the Compatibility Settings of Skype by right-click on the Desktop Icon - no resolution.
%appdata%\Skype\Apps renaming the Login folder and creating the shortcut of Skype icon side the Phone directory - no resolution
%temp%\Skype delete folder - no resolution
There were suggestions to install old versions of Skype - did that too but the same problem of freezing
Now, this is what I am facing:- Skype would install fine. (I learnt and unchecked "Run at Startup). Now when I click on the Skype desktop icon, two cases occur, either entire Windows would freeze or initially Skype would show a blank/white screen and become un-responsive eventually & then freeze the windows. Even Skype website would freeze the browser at times.

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit option only).
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.
Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

Create Recovery Discs from your HDD, then load them onto the SSD.
    Hope that helps,

  • ITunes displays Russian-language welcome screen for newly-purchased iPhone (in U.S.)

I bought a 16 GB iPhone 4 at the AT&T store late this afternoon, and this evening I hooked it to iTunes on my MacBook Pro. At the registration screen I clicked the "Register later" button. The next screen is entirely in Russian. Nothing on my system -- not the laptop's OS, not the iPhone's OS -- is set to Russian; both are definitely English.
AppleCare's call center is closed for the night. Ideas?

I haven't solved why it happened, but I got past the problem. Immediately after posting my question above, I remembered the Translation widget. Since iTunes allowed me to select and copy the Russian text, I was able to paste it into the widget.
Apparently iTunes was describing services for locating and/or wiping the device in case of loss or theft, and asking whether to set it up now or wait. I chose to wait, and the next screen was in English.

  • Flashed BIOS now BSOD at splash screen for Windows

I selected the correct version of the bios update by identifying the bios version as advised. Flashed the bios and restarted. At first start up received bad checksum, cleared the cmos restarted computer still getting a BSOD. Downloaded the iso version, ran it on the system still the same problem. I've tried searching for an older bios version but haven't had any luck. Any suggestions would be great.
Update: After speaking with Tech Support they advised to try the other version of the bios update, and it corrected the problem. I guess the directions of checking the bios version in system information is incorrect. So if for some reason the one doesn't work try the other one!

  • How do I set up fingerprint scanner on startup login screen for Windows 7?

Is it possible to unlock my X1 Carbon using fingerprint scanner on startup? I recently used a password for startup login but now I removed it in hopes of using fingerprint scanning instead. I enabled all the settings in the option from the Lenovo program but does not work, it just boots up normally to my desktop without asking for a fingerprint.

We rolled out Windows 7 x32 to 1200+ computers and are having random issues with extremely long login times.  Most of the time users can log into the network without issues but I typically have several computers each week that hang at the
welcome screen.  In every instance I receive the following errors.  The number of errors is directly related to the amount of time it takes for the computer to log the user in which makes since with the 30 second timeout.

This morning the tech coordinator was stuck at the welcome screen for 30 minutes with 17 of the above messages until we forced the computer off and logged in successfully.  We rebooted immediately after logging into the computer and logged in a third
time without any issues.  I also checked the logs and didn't see or have any issues with the 2nd and 3rd login attempts.  The group policy client service also started successfully about 1 minute before the first error on the first attempt.
I also went through the Applications and Services Logs>Microsoft>Windows>GroupPolicy>Operational logs but didn't see any issues.  Here is the last entry in the log file until the reboot.  All 17 messages didn't generate any information

    Other Information
    1. Server OS - Windows 2008 R2 servers. ~20 servers with 7 DC's.
    2. Windows OS - Windows 7 x32 SP1 workstation. ~1200
    3. This happens on wireless and wired connections.
    4. This happens across all hardware and models of laptops and desktops.  Ranging from GX270 - Opti 760, Latitude D510 - Latitude E6410, Latitude 2100 - Latitude 2120's and all models in between.
    5. We are currently using SCCM 2012 to deploy images and applications.  The image was created through SCCM using Build and Capture so I never touched the image.
    6. The drivers were downloaded from Dell but this is happening on multiple machines so I don't think its driver related.
    7. We are using Forefront Antivirus.
    8. We upgraded the machines to 2Gig of ram and upgraded them from XP to Windows 7 this summer.
    9. We upgraded the servers from Windows 2003 R2 to Windows 2008 R2 this summer just before deploying Windows 7.
    10. This is only reported through the helpdesk on less than 10 computers each week but I'm told it happens more frequently when I'm in the buildings.
    11. We are using Group Policies to manage almost all aspects of the computer except for printers.  The printer drivers we are using are so slow that it added 60 to 180 seconds to the login time so I moved the printer mapping to a vbscript that
is launched through the logon script through a GPO.
Users are holding the power button in to shut down the machine as they can typically log in a second time without issues.  I have heard that a few people have issues logging into the computer the second time but it's normally running by the
    time I heard about it.
Are there any other logs that I can look at to troubleshoot this issue?  Thanks for taking the time to read this issue.

Hmmm hard to say. If I was going to take a stab at it you might be hitting a DC in a remote site.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 hangs on Welcome screen

    Hi people,
I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter with Hyper-V role installed. This is production server DELL PowerEdge R710 with 72GB memory. Since few months ago I had problem, from time to time, to RDP to server because it was taking too much time to pass
from Welcome screen to desktop. Last week when i restarted it I couldn't login to it at all, it hangs on Welcome screen for hours. Well I'm aware of Microsoft walktrought and i used devnodeclean /r and after 2 hours it cleaned registry from ghost drives created
by DPM and after restart i still got a problem. I can't install hotfix from safe mode so i can't really try that solution. Same thing with Welcome screen hanging is happening when i: RDP to it with msft rdp, with visionapp, dell drac kvm console and directly
on server. Virtual machines on it is working and i can access Hyper-V from other server console untill i try to login and then RPC service fialed.

    Hello,
Start by running msconfig and disable all startup items / services except Microsoft ones. Once done, restart the server and check results.
Also, update all possible drivers especially the graphic card one.

    help?

This is what worked for me!!!!!
    Close iTunes.
With Windows Explorer go to View in the top menu and allow Hidden Files.
    Navigate to:
    C:\Users\[which ever user is you]\Appdata\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
Delete all files in this directory.
Start iTunes and see the Welcome Screen for hopefully the last time!
I am not an expert.  This was a stab in the dark based on the Mac ByHosts solution and it just happened to work for me.  Give it a try and let me know if it works.
