Customized bullets in RH 7

Hi,
Has anyone created a customized bullet in RoboHelp 7? I'm trying to create a nested bullet that uses a dash. The only way that I can figure out is to manually type the dash for each bullet item. Is there another way?
Thanks.

Hmm, if you've got your own bullet graphic it used to work well in good old RH X5: Right-click the bullet item > Select Bullets and Numbering > Specify a Bullet image
RH7 (less old, but in my humble opinion also less good than X5) has same fuctionality, but it has stopped working for me:
When using the Bullets and Numbering dialog for inserting an image as a bullet, it initially works fine. In my case the path to the graphic is a relative one (e.g. ../../MyGraphics/MyImage.jpg). But only until I close the topic. The next time I open it, RH has forcefully corverted the path so it points to a non-relative location on the C: drive (where of course the graphic is not located). Consequently I get the dreaded red placeholder square instead of my bullet graphic.
This has effectively made it impossible for me to use own graphics a bullets since I upgraded to RH 7. I wonder if there any reason behind this behaviour?
All best,
Morten

    Search InDesign help for "change bullet characters" (without quotes,) and use the technique described there with the Zapf Dingbat font as suggested by Peter S.
    You can also use InDesign's glyphs panel (Window > Type & Tables > Glyphs) to scroll through all the character sets in all the fonts that InDesign has access to on your system, to look for check mark characters.
    After you have created a paragraph style that applies the customized check-mark-bullet that you want, every time you apply that paragraph style, the custom bullet appears. So, while it's a few steps to set up the style the first time, from then on it's automatic.
    If you really need a particular bullet that's not in any font you have, you'll need to search for fonts that have check mark characters and buy one or use a free one. Caution: free fonts aren't always created to the same strict standards that commercial fonts from reputable font foundries observe; free fonts sometimes cause problems when printing or exporting to PDF. You can search Google for "fonts with check mark" (without quotes.)

  • Using custom bullet images in paragraph styles

    R8 HTML.
    Hello all,
    Bit of an edit to this one.
    I've got several sections of text through my doc, Tips and Notes, currently this text is just highlighted and box bound. But I instead want it to have a custom bullet image, like a ! or something similar. I've found the images I want to use in the 'Bullet and Numbering..' menu of RH, but using these to create a style creates a new list style, I instead want to edit my existing Note and Tip styles so the image is used, otherwise I have to re-apply the list style all over the doc in place of the Tip and Note styles I have now. Would be very nice if I didnt have to do this.
    Hope someone can help.
    Cheers.

    Hi Nick
    Coming in a bit late on this.
    I just successfully changed to picture bullets by performing the following actions.
    Added the image I wanted to use for the bullet as a Baggage file.
    Edited the Lists item in the Style Sheet editor so that lists were presented in an unusual font. (did this so I could easily locate the appropriate CSS section when editing later)
    *NOTE: I'm unsure why Lists is listed as a separate entry of its own, but I used the Lists found within the Other category.
    Now hand edit the CSS using Windows Notepad. Certainly you may view the files in Windows Explorer and right-click to edit, but I much prefer to launch the CSS in Notepad right from RoboHelp HTML. To do that, you click Tools > Options > Associations tab. Then associate Notepad with CSS files. This allows you to right-click the CSS in the RoboHelp HTML Explorer and choose View. The CSS should then display in Notepad.
    Okay, once that was done I edited Notepad and saw that my lists item looked as below:
    I amended it to add the reference to the image as shown below:
    Seems a lot has been tried and nothing seems to work for you. I'm hopeful this will either help you solve it or spark a thought that will.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How to make an editable bulleted list with multiple lines and custom bullets?

    How do I create an editable bulleted list in Acrobat Pro? I've figured out how to add text fields with multiple lines, and how to add a list box, but I don't see the check box for multiple lines in the list box or how to add bullet points. Can someone please give me step by step instructions? Also is it possible to use custom bullet points?

    Is it a text field or a list box field? The two are not the same...
    The bullets are something that the user will have to enter manually (into a text field, they can only select values in a list-box).
    They can use any unicode character, or special characters if the font used for that field allows for it. You can't use images for the bullets, if that's what you mean.

  • Custom bullet images

    Keynote's themes come with some nice custom bullets, which I would like to appropriate to use on slides not with those themes. There is a "custom image" chooser in the Bullets inspector, but I cannot find where the stock custom bullet images reside on disk. Another thread suggested that they might be in the Pages application package, but I do not see them there. Can anybody point me to where they sit?

    They're in the Keynote application package: Resources -> ImageGlyphs

  • Correspondence Management - Customizing bullet/numbering style

    Hi everybody,
    I'd like to customize the CM Editors View a little bit - the bullet/numbering-styling - to be exact. When I browse to "ip:port/lc/crx/de/index.jsp#/content/cm/" I found the file called "tbxeditor-config.xml". There I'm able to add/remove fonts, etc. But I couldn't find any hints to change bullet/numbering-styling e.g. changing from 1,2,3 to $1, $2, $3. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

    Have you had a look at the custom numbering in List Module If that suits your requirement ?
    You will have to create multiple text modules of each bulleted item and create a list with custom bullet numbering that contains all the text modules.

  • Custom bullet suddenly shown incorrectly when generated

    Please  help  - need fix!!
    I'm working with RH 9 and have several projects based on the same CSS. Yesterday in one of the projects, one of my custom bullets suddenly became incorrectly depicted in view or generated form.
    Everything looks fine in the editor but when viewed or generated, it changes. However only on of many custom bullets?
    In the default CSS the bullets look similar in HTML:
    This one works fine:
    <ul>
    <li class="p-tip"><p class="tip">Text.</p></li>
    </ul>
    This one is the troubled one:
    <ul>
    <li class="p-Vigtigt"><p class="Vigtigt"><span style="font-weight: bold;">Text.</p></li>
    </ul>
    Enclosed: screen shot of custom bullet in editor and in viewer

    Hey,
    If I under stand you correctly, the "P.Vigtig{" entry above shouldn't have a "list-style: url(../../about.png);" entry at all!? But it should be present in "LI.p-Vigtigt {" ?? Should I weed these out in the CSS??
    At the moment It looks like this - and works:
    P.Vigtigt {
    line-height: Normal;
    font-style: italic;
    font-weight: normal;
    x-next-class: ;
    x-next-type: P;
    margin-left: 14pt;
    margin-bottom: 4pt;
    margin-top: 10pt;
    list-style: url(about2.png);
    LI.p-Vigtigt {
    line-height: Normal;
    font-style: italic;
    font-weight: normal;
    list-style: url(about2.png);
    LI.P-Number {
    line-height: Normal;
    list-style: decimal;
    Concerning upgrade, Yes we upgraded about 12 months ago, but haven't really had any snags? All projects were converted automatically the first time they were initiated.
    And no, we never tampered with the CSS just resued the same for several projects? I'd enclose the CSS but  this is not supported, sorry!
    Cheers,
    Erik

  • Creating Custom Bullets & Lists in Pages 5.0

    I cannot figure out how to create a custom numbered list in Pages 5.0. I had custom LISTS on my 4.3 Docs that did not migrate to 5.0. How do I create duplicate LIST STYLE in 5.0?
    Thank you for your help.

    On the format menu on the right side, there is the font section, alignment section, spacing section, and bullets & lists section. Next to the bullets & lists section is a drop-down menu of preset lists. At the top-right of this menu is a plus sign. Clicking on this will allow you to create a new list in that menu and title it. From there, you will have to manually create your custom list change the type of bullets (numbers, roman numerals, letters, etc.) -- you might need to click on the disclosure triangle to the left of the bullets & lists title to see this part. When you finish with your custom list, there will be an asterik next to the title of the list, and if you click on that title, the drop-down menu will open up again and you can hit "Update" next to your list name. This should save the style for that custom list. Here is the most important part: When you have finished making this list, make sure you save the document as a template and select that template if you ever want to use that list. I have found that a custom list in a document (saved or deleted) that is not made into a template does not carry over into other documents. Setting up this custom list may take a while, but hopefully it will work and make things easier. I hope this makes sense, and let me know if you cannot understand something. Hopefully this picture will help too.

  • RH8 conversion (bullet images and numbered lists are different)

    Version 8.0.2.208
    Conversion of 1200 htm files.
    Has anyone experience bullet images in their custom styles changing from RH7 to RH8 and numbers in numbered lists resized?
    Bullets
    I noticed that all my bullet images have changed. They are OK in Design view, but change when the topics are previewed and generated.
    For example, if the style used a small square bullet image, it was changed to the bullet used at the beginning of this sentence.
    If I attempt to create a new bullet list in the existing topic using the Normal style (Arial 12)  and Formatting Toolbar (Bullets), the bullet and text are changed to (Arial 10) and the style name changes to (none) in Design view. Preview and generated is also Arial 10 for both.
    Numbered Lists
    Most of the existing converted topics used the Normal style and Formatting Toolbar (Numbers) for numbered lists. There is spacing between each numbered line. The numbers and text are in (Arial 12) in Design view, but the numbers are (Arial 10) when the topics are previewed and generated and the text remains (Arial 12).
    If I select the numbered list, click the numbered list icon to turn off numbering, and then click to turn on numbering, the numbers and text are (Arial 10) and the style is changed to (none). Output and preview are (Arial 10). The spacing between the numbered items is deleted.
    I have to then highlight that list and change the style back to Normal for (Arial 12) text.
    If I attempt to create a new numbered list in the existing topic using the Normal style (Arial 12)  and Formatting Toolbar (Bullets), the bullet and text are changed to (Arial 10) and the style name changes to (none) in Design view. Preview and generated is also Arial 10 for both.
    This has taken up a lot of my time. Any clues?
    Donna

    I went to the link you provided.I am still confused as to the step by step procedure to fix my custom bullet style that is used throughout my project. Can you globally fix this issue? It would be too time consuming to figure out where in 1200 topics this style is used. I guess I don't understand list styles.
    Custom Style = BulletList
    My custom (BulletList) style -  Design mode:
    Preview mode (incorrect)
    Another topic using ths sam (BulletList) style - Preview mode (incorrect should be square bullets)
    I select Format > Styles in design mode. Right-click on BulletList, select Edit.
    If I ceate a bulleted list, the square bullet is selected.

  • Replacing bullets with images

    Are there plans to add the option of replacing the bullets in a bulleted list with images, as you can do in Word? Our current workaround is to insert the image as a background image through the CSS with appropriate spacing, but this isn't very accurate.

    Hello Michael,
    Since the rendering of bullets is up to the browser, we don't have much control over that other than what the browser can provide. According to CSS, I believe the correct style to use would be "list-style-image," but it is not well-supported, and the ICE browser in OHJ does not currently support it.
    I am not sure what MS Word does, but when you save a Word file as HTML, it does all sorts of strange things to the HTML. For example, a quick test showed that saving a list (with custom bullets) as HTML created a series of P elements with things like <span style='font-family:Symbol'>^<span
    style='font:7.0pt "Times New Roman"'>       </span></span>
    You could do things like that, too, but it isn't good HTML.

  • Is possible to assign picture in paragraph style or create bullet?

    I need to  assign Illustrator picture (B&W) before text. Is this possible? Or exist way, how to create from this pictue bullet?
    Thanks

    Jean-Claude is right. IndyFont is a great option for this job. That way you can just use a bulleted paragraph style. Here's a post and video on the topic:
    http://indesignsecrets.com/creating-a-custom-bullet-or-character-with-indyfont.php
    Or you could do a Find/Change to replace bullets which have been converted to regular text with the graphic. Copy the graphic and in the Change To field, select Clipboard Contents.

  • RH9: Same old story; can't get image bullets to display

    Using TCS3, FM10, RH9 in Windows XP.
    I have custom bullets that I would like to use for my bulleted lists.  No matter what I do in the CSS, I still get the standard black bullets. (I know I should be grateful for any bullets at all, but I would really like my blue bullets.) My blue bullets are in my project as both images and baggage files.
    Here's what my CSS looks like for one of my bullets:
    P.Bullet2 {
    font-family: Tahoma;
    margin-top: 7pt;
    margin-bottom: 7pt;
    font-size: 11pt;
    margin-left: 0.5pt;
    color: #000000;
    list-style: url(hollow_blue_bullet.png);
    LI.p-Bullet2 {
    font-family: Tahoma;
    font-size: 11pt;
    color: #000000;
    list-style: url(hollow_blue_bullet.png);
    I have created a test project and linked it with a CSS where I have stripped out the Bullet2 tags.  I thought if I stripped it out, I could rebuild it.  I also deleted the Bullet2 style in RH. So I no longer have a FM Bullet2style mapped to a RH Bullet2 style.
    I then created a Bullet2 style in RH with the formatting including my blue bullet.  However, I don't have the Bullet2 RH style to map to anymore.
    Here are my question:
    How do I get a new style to become available to map to?
    How do I get my unordered lists to have image bullets?
    Thanks in advance!

    I felt I owed it to all of my followers to let everyone know that I finally got my customized bullets.  I worked with someone who had far more experience than I do in CSS and even he was baffled by how RH chose to interpret the CSS.
    Here is the workaround that we came up with to get customized solid blue bullets for a first level indent ( fondly known as Bullet1):
    For all of you newbies, like me, the following just formats the text of the bullet, not the bullet itself. The margin-left has to do with the amount of space between the text and the bullet.
    P.Bullet1 {
    font-family: Tahoma;
    margin-top: 7pt;
    margin-bottom: 7pt;
    font-size: 11pt;
    margin-left: 5pt;
    LI{
    list-style-image: url(new_blue_bullet.png);
    list-style-position: outside;
    margin-left: -15pt;
    Note: LI above refers to the bullet itself (LI means list item).  This is saying when there is only a list item, give it a bullet that is blue, place the bullet outside of the text and indent the bullet -15pts from the left margin.
    The following formats the second bullet level, also affectionately known as Bullet2. Again, this is just formatting the text of the bullet. Since they are similar, I supposed you could group Bullet1 and Bullet2 together, but I wasn't about to bring all this crashing down after so much work:
    P.Bullet2 {
    font-family: Tahoma;
    margin-top: 7pt;
    margin-bottom: 7pt;
    font-size: 11pt;
    margin-left: 5pt;
    The following means (read it from right to left) a list item in an unordered list that is contained in another unordered list. This will format all instances where that hierarchy occurs.
    UL LI UL LI{
    font-family: Tahoma;
    font-size: 11pt;
    font-style: normal;
    list-style-image: url(new_hollow_bullet.png);
    list-style-position: outside;
    margin-left: 5pt;
    The next bit of CSS means a list item in an unordered list that is contained in an ordered list, for example, a bulleted list for a step. This will format all instances where this happens:
    OL UL LI{
    font-family: Tahoma;
    font-size: 11pt;
    font-style: normal;
    list-style-image: url(new_hollow_bullet.png);
    list-style-position: outside;
    margin-left: 5pt;
    Again, many thanks to all of you who laughed, cried, and stood on the ledge with me during this excruciating process.  I sure hope the Adobe folks were following this thread.  A heck of a lot of you looked at it.
    If I could, I would give myself a star for this one as the correct answer.
    Mary

  • How to import bullets into Captivate 8?

    Hi!
    I want to use bullets from Word in my Captivate 8 composition.
    I found an old article describing how to do it: I Came, I Saw, I Learned...: Adobe Captivate: Custom Bullets in Text Captions Made Easy
    However, I can't make it work. Is there an other way to import bullets into Captivate 8?
    BR,

    No, it is not really possible. You could use ASCII code to insert bullets
    or characters from webdings or wingdings fonts.

  • Center bullet points vertically with text

    CS6 in Windows 7. I've made a custom bullet point that's a square, but it is vertically aligned with the bottom of the first line of text instead of to the center of the first line of text. How do I shift the bullet point up so it's aligned with the center of  the first line of text?
    Here's how it is now.
    Thanks.
    Mark

    You can create a character style to apply to the bullet that adds baseline shift, or since you say this is a custom bullet, you could remake the bullet, and push it higher in relation to the line when you make (which is a more universal solution).
