Customized buttons in the Music App

Good morning, all.
I use my iPod Touch 4G mainly to listen to podcasts and audiobooks. For previous versions of iOS I have customized the quick access buttons on the bottom of the UI. When I updated to iOS 6, the buttons changed to Playlists, Podcasts, Genres, Albums, More. I went to More > Edit which brought me to the configure page and I replaced Genres with Audiobooks, then clicked Done.
The problem occurs sometime later. I have not successful reproduced on demand the circumstances, but after a day or two, the quick access buttons revert to the default settings. Is there someway to make the change permanent (until I decide to change it)?

I am having the same issues though they only started recently. I use Music to listen to podcasts and replaced the Album button with the Podcasts button. Every so often it will go back to default, most times it seems it is after I sync my iPod with my computer to get new episodes. I change it back every time and it stays that way for a while but then reverts back. Not sure if it happens every time I do a sync or not, but seems to have just started this behavior in the last few weeks and again noticed it today after sync yesterday.
Is there any other place that this could be resetting itself? I know you can customize your home screen with iTunes, but thought the only way to change the menus in Music was within the app itself.

After upgrading to IOS 7.0.2 I can't see the radio button in the music app on my iPad

The radio button does not show anymore in my music app on my iPad after I upgraded to IOS 7.0.2 - it did show briefly the first time I started the app after upgrading but immediately disappeared and is now gone for good. Following ultimately helped me : Make sure that you are logged in at the App Store App or iTunes App with your apple ID and password with a US account. Turn your iPad off and on and than you should see the Radio button again. It won't work if you are logged on with a foreign account. If you are not logged in at all, it worked, too.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

The Music App in iOS7 is an annoying step back - Why?

As a whole, I appreciate the design and functionality changes within iOS7. It's breathed new life into the OS, given people something new to explore and talk about.
But Apple seem to have lost their way when it comes to the basics of playing some music on an iPhone. It's become fiddly, complicated, fragmented and regressed - iOS6 had the right balance
Why? Well, based on personal experience and comments made by colleagues, friends etc, the most regular complaints are..
-- Why have users been forced to listen to podcasts in the separate app? Apple - not everyone listens to spoken word podcasts. We listen to music mixes etc.. Having those mixes in the SAME PLACE as our other music makes it a more seamless experience. Switching apps is a ball-ache
-- Why can't we delete entire Albums in one swipe any more? Track by track, is again, a ballache
-- The controls to scrub through tracks are tiny and barely usable. iOS6 allowed you to scrub and see the slider under your finger - now you have a tiny red line that leads to inaccurate movement thru tracks
-- Music control while the phone is locked is very very frustrating in iOS7 in a few ways...
1) iOS6 - you could double click the home button, the controls (large) would appear on screen. You could hit play and instantly listen to some shuffled music. In iOS7 - you have to swipe up,hit play then hope it starts a track (which it doesnt always do)
2) The above isnt too much of an issue when the phone is on a desk in front of you, or in your hand... but when you're using the phone while running, the clunky process is unhelpful and unintuitive. If you use an arm band to hold your iphone while you exercise try dragging the control centre up, selecting the music app and playing a track while you've got a plastic cover over the screen - it's nigh on impossible
3) You cant enter the music app unless there's a track already playing - why isnt Music.app quickly accessible from Control Centre? I'd use that more than a stopwatch

-- In Album view, the coverart icons are too large- takes longer to scroll thru a collection of albums, especially as the alphbetical slider on the right hand side of the screen is smaller and omits every other letter
Overall, the app is flawed / too skewed toward the purchase of media via the iTunes store
I doubt very much whether Apple will read this post or listen to customer feedback and deviate from their design vision. Apple regularly claim they identify a customer need and fulfill it - would be good if they were good to their word on this particular aspect of iOS7

Which is a horrible app that shows every **** podcast you subsctribe to, whether or not you have a new episode, and doesn't let you arrange them properly to only show unplayed episodes. It's also a completely needless app since the Music app handles podcasts just fine.

So this is annoying me to no end because I just spent $25 to sign up for iTunes Match and so far its wasted my time and given me nothing but a massive headache. This is obviously a major bug on the SERVICE END, not mine.
Starting with an empty iTunes library on my Mac, I began ripping my CDs in iTunes Plus AAC format the other night with the intent of matching & uploading my entire music library into iCloud for streaming & downloading to my iPhone 4S on the go. Simple in theory, right? After some basic tag editing -- changing genres, a simple alteration to a title here, deleting the composer there -- and then updating iTunes Match (Store > Update iTunes Match), I notice I'm getting duplicates of a bunch of my songs appearing on my iPhone. I haven't downloaded anything to the device, they're all just listed with the cloud icon next to them.
So I'm thinking, whatever, I screwed something up. I'm only several CDs into the process so I'll just delete the iTunes library and start over again. Shift + right click, delete everything. Do you want to delete these songs from iCloud as well? Yes. Update iTunes Match. There are 0 songs in iCloud. Okay.
The songs are still showing in my iPhone Music app. Strange. Swipe to delete does nothing, they're not on the device. They're pointing to files in the cloud that are either no longer there or somewhere that I cannot access anymore. Broken aliases. The album artwork still shows up, but playing the songs just kicks me back to the album menu. Navigating to Settings > General > Usage > Music shows me there is no data on the device. 0 bytes.
One thing I notice is that sometimes after syncing a handful of these broken songs will show up in a "Purchased" playlist on my iPhone within the iTunes browser -- I haven't purchased any music from the iTunes store, not one song -- and inspecting them with right click > Get Info reveals them as Stream files, not iTunes Plus AAC files.
Turning iTunes Match off and on again both from within iTunes and on my iPhone does nothing.
Syncing wirelessly or via USB does nothing.
Backing up and restoring my iPhone does nothing.
Double clicking the Home button and quitting the Music process, then opening it again does nothing.
Hard resetting the iPhone does nothing.
This is something that's happening with my Apple ID on the service end, not locally or on the user end. As long as iTunes Match is turned on in my iPhone settings, all of this broken music -- everything I've matched to iCloud and deleted -- shows up. I've done everything within the parameters of proper usage, and iTunes tells me there is nothing in iCloud after it updates but my phone keeps seeing crap that isn't -- or shouldn't be -- there.
I WANT to use iTunes Match, I just paid 25 freaking dollars for it, but its completely busted for me right now and I know ripping and matching some more CDs is just going to make it worse and populate my iPhone with an even bigger broken library. I just ripped and matched one more CD an hour ago without editing any of the tags, just let iTunes Match do its thing, and then after right clicking and following the prompts to delete the 18 songs both from both iTunes AND iCloud its still showing up on my iPhone. Busted like all the others.
Can we please get an update on this as soon as possible? This is driving me nuts and I don't know what else to do.

It's a slightly convoluted process.
Disable iTunes Match on your iPhone
Settings > Music > Itunes Match
Now, make sure you've killed the Music app by double-tapping the home button, and deleting the app there where it is running. Important step. The app should not be active.
Next step:
Settings > General > Usage (it takes a while to load) > then delete the Music app there
Power your phone down, and back up again.
Sync your music via iTunes like you always have ...
... and this should fix your problem.

Why can I no longer watch music videos in full screen mode via a playlist in the music app since upgrading to ios7?

Since upgrading to ios7 my iPhone 4S no longer allows me to watch music videos in full screen mode when I select the clips via a playlist from the music app.
It's now more necessary than before to use the music app rather than the video app to select music videos to play. That's because the video app doesn't list music videos by artist any more. And also because the fast forward and rewind buttons on headphones remote no longer work on videos.

I do not think it is a problem to play videos in the full screen mode using the video app. It should work just fine, it does work ok for me on iphone 5. The original question was to play music videos in the music app. Music videos and videos are two different things - I am not sure why but they are.
The problem here is that the music app supports lists and the video app does not. I just looked at the ios7 video app and while my few test videos are shown in it, the lists they were in (in iTunes) are nowhere to be found. There is no lists in the video app - period - which is as it was before.
The video app plays videos and music videos in the full screen mode no problem but if you have a few hundreds or more of such videos you will have hard time finding the one you want to play. There is simply no way to categorize or group videos. The old good folders/directories are, I guess, too simple for Apple. It is just too bad that for years on end the world's leader in S/W development did not offer anything to categorize videos.
You have lists, albums, etc., for music, you have albums for pictures but you have absolutely nothing for videos. And this is and has been the Apple's state-of-the art solution for this problem - simply insist that the problem does not exist. Actually it is getting worse. Not only there is nothing to categorize or group videos but now the only way it could be done (by marking videos as music videos and using the music app) results in a mini playback area.
Soon this OS will be able to cook dinner for your but grouping videos... no way.

Is there a scrollbar feature in the Music app on my iPod?

I have a few audio books that I'm listening to and each 'track' is well over an hour long. Annoyingly, every now and then my iPod loses it's spot and it starts me from the beginning again, so I need to hold my finger on the fast-foward screen button for ages until I get to the point I was up to. So I notice that there is a volume slider control above the rewind/play/fast forward icons at the bottom of the Music app's screen while I'm listening. Given that I already have physical volume buttons on the side of the iPod, is there a way to reconfigure the slider on the bottom of the screen as a scrollbar so I can quickly go to any point in the track? Or is there some other way to easily do what I want?

I think that cloud privacy concerns are overdone - especially with Apple who don't have a vested interest in snooping through your data like Google does!
Do you use email? It's stored in the cloud on the providers servers - no matter who the provider is.
Do you use SMS on a phone? They're stored on a server somewhere!
Do you use the internet? The logs are stored at your ISP for some period of time - tracking everywhere you've been.
Thats why I am comfortable to use iCloud for most of my documents. If I want to transfer files very securely, I put them in an encrypted disk image on Dropbox.

Try in order:
- Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch: Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
- Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod since you may have corruption that is now in your backup
Based on the info you provided it appears you did the restore from backup and sitll have problems. Thus, I would just restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.

If you are a US customer, try forcing all applications to close and power cycle the device. Test accessing iTunes Radio after processing these steps. I would also make sure cellular data is enabled for iTunes.

IPod Touch and AppleTV "bricks" the Music app

I use the Music app on the iPod Touch to send music to an Apple TV. If I have the iPod Touch transmitting and stop playing music (via "Pause") and I walk away from my wireless connection, I cannot access my Music collection. The page will display with the last song playing for the AppleTV and lock. Eventually, it will crash and future attempts to access the Music app will display the blue bar, white background, and black bottom bar before crashing.
I've contacted Apple Support. I've restored the iPod, unplugged the ATV, and exchanged the iPod. None of this has worked.
I'm positive that it is something software based. Apple Support suggests replacing the iPod (which I will do). However, this does not resolve the issue.
Thoughts?
Is there someone else that can be contacted that is not a troubleshooter? I've worked in Customer Service and I know the "we have no idea and we're going to do what it takes to get you off the phone" approach. The last contact, where I explained what I figured out was the issue, met with silence on their action. I highly doubt that anyone is going to submit a ticket to have the issue fixed in a future patch.

Solution: Doing a "Reset all settings" will release whatever hold the app has. You'll have to set everything up (I did it as a new iPod).
Restore did nothing to resolve this issue.

TS1629 Trying to set up home sharing on my ipad and when I click on the music app I don't have an option to slick ''more". It's just a grey screen that says no music..

When trying to view shared playlist, or any music for that matter the music app is blank. All it show is no music in the middle of the screen and a play button in the top right corner

Why is the music app so awful

I probably just dont know how to use it and there arent any settings that I can find, but the tile switching thing it does drives me crazy! Why is that something that I cannot turn off?
When listening to music, the phone goes to this tile thing that shows a bunch of albums, but there isnt any easy way I can find to get back to what is playing. There arent any buttons or swipes I have been able to find to get back to it, then if I set down and pick it up it start this portrait to landscape switching thing where I turn it one way and it moves another and so on. The only way to get back to something normal is to back out and restart music, which is the opposite of easy and intuitive.
What am I doing wrong, there are so many things with this phone that are just hard to use that Im not sure what the hype about Apple designs are. I dont have time to research how to use an "intuitive" device and I have had this phone for a couple years and it is just not very good, but it is what my work hands out so it is what I have.
If anyone has any real suggestions on what to do with the music app I would really appreciate it.

Sorry, I meant swiping, not tapping.
It took me three reboots and one restore from the previous backup, only after that it started working as expected.
I also noticed that a lot of ram kept being marked as used although not a single app was running in the background.
Anyway - why did it need to be a swipe instead of a tap? One can only access it after a home button press - safe enough to not accidentally activate it.
I miss the possibility like in iOS 3 to assign the home button double-click to the camera start. THAT was really handy.
