Customized Help Link in OBIEE

Hello BI experts,
Please help me in achieving the requirement as below.
We need to create a link (as Help Link ) in the Answers page/screen which should actually link to a Word document . The word document helps users in selecting the criteria for a report . Please note that this is for Ad-hoc reporting. My observation is that we should convert the word document into XML format before uploading it. Please let me know how can we do this.
Thanks in advance.

To acheive this you need to play with the source code to insert a html code for creating link on answers screen,
If you login to answers
In criteria tab under columns you will see text ....click on column etc...At the end .you will find ? [help file] which has a location at
C:oracleBI\oc4j-bi\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\olh\L-en location
You need to change the source code and place you file as html format. in the above location....
I am not sure whether you guys have license to customize the source code of OBIEE....
Thanks

It willl be really helpful. So thanks in advance.

  • Remove or configure the help link

Is there a way to remove the "help" link in the top right corner of OBIEE? The customer does not want it there as it leads to Oracles documentation page that is not in the language they want it. It would enough if I can prevent it from being displayed when the end user view a dashboard or if I just could reconfigure it to lead to a custom page. Any suggestions?
    Running latest version OBIEE.

Take a look at these threads. They have info for both 10g and 11g.

  • Custom Help Service link

    Dear Guru's,
Iam into a ESS support project, my issue is when employee logs into ESS portal and navigates through Record working time ==> Time Accounts, he has to view a customized Help link on the top right corner.
FYI...Help links are also customised via home page frame work. how ever these are done for all the services and all other services (Help Links) like Emp Search n Change own data are working fine.
I have issue with only Time Accounts & Salary Statement. kindly help.
    Regards,
    Priya Ram

You are over thinking it. For our solution, we don't use the "Help Link" feature of the Homepage Framework due to inconsistency of how it works, no control over it, and the inability to put multiple links.
Instead, we added another iView to each page that displays above the ESS service's main iView (like timesheet). In that iView, we link it to a HTML page in KM (but can be whereever you like). It displays our simple HTML page which we coded to have our "help links"....as well as images/icons, and additional text (like "for more information, call the Help Line at 1-555-555-5555"). Much nicer this way I think.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adding Custom "Report Links"

Does anyone know how to add custom "Report Links" to OBIEE? Right now the standard report links available are "Modify", "Refresh", "Printer Friendly", "Download", "Addd to Briefing Book", and "Copy". I want add another option called "Detailed Report" and have it appear along side all the other report links.
    Is this possible?
    -Joe

I am not aware of a "best practice" for doing exactly what you wish to do. If you have a large number of reports and you wish all to have a "summary" or "detail" that the user can choose, one way to have this functionality is to build a "table of contents" dashboard page composed of "link or image" objects that have, as titles, "Report1 -- Summary" and next to it "Report1 -- Detail" and have them all listed next to each other in column form.
The user can then right off choose if he/she wishes to see the summary version or detailed version of any report and when opening them up (in a new window) can decide whether to print, download, etc. This gives an overall view of all your reports so the user can see everything and at the same time choose between what version of the report he/she wants to view.
As far as "best practices" in general, I have this book which has some good tips:

  • How to deploy custom HTML Help files in OBIEE 11g

    Hi gurus,
I have question regarding deploying Custom HTML files in OBIEE 11.1.1.5, i tried to place files under
Middleware/Oracle_BI1/bifoundation/web/app/olh/l_en and tried to access with below URL after bounce Weblogic...but no luck.
    http://hostnmame:9704/analytics/olh/l_en/lOfferExpert_Help.htm
Can some one give some pointers to appropriate documentation of achieving this?
    thanks
    Ravi

    Hi Ravi,
I am thinking deploying these html files as a part of separate application in weblogic might be another approach. This process is like
    1. Making a .war(.ear) of your html
    2. Deploying the .war in weblogic through deployments as an application with an application context.
    3. Referencing the files in analytics or even outside just through a url.
    Hope this helps.
    Thank you,
    Dhar

  • HTML Help link in SRM to point to custom help page.

In SRM frontend, along the top frame is a Help URL, (between Home and Settings). When i click this i get 'help not available' message. Am i able to point this to a web page that provides custom help - it seems to be able to pickup what transaction i am currently performing using parameter eg. TCODE1=BBPSTART - is there a table that i can link this??
Transaction SR13 does not help me.

    Dear Poster,
As no response has been provided to the thread in some time I must assume the issue is resolved, if the question is still valid please create a new thread rephrasing the query and providing as much data as possible to promote response from the community.

  • Customizing the Help link in Portal Masthead

Customizing the Help Link in Portal Masthead is easy.
But what if we need to point that help link to another site that is require a user to logon?  Is there any way we can have the other site to bypass the logon screen?
But than how will it check the logon credentials?

    Hi,
you can use the user mapping functionality of the portal.
    - Create an HTTP system in the portal and configure the user logon part.
    - Define the user mapping per use in the user administration or let the user do it (personalization).
    - Create an URL iView for that system.
    - Configure the Help link of the masthead to use this URL iView.
When the user clicks the help link, the portal will use the URL iView and use the user mapping SSO mechanism.

  • Need to have the help link at my custom pages

    Hi All,
I want to have the help link in my few custom page's . Can anyone help me on this ...
    Regards
    Karandeep Singh

    Keerthi,
    Thanks for your update .
But my requirement was to create the help link on all the custom pages as it is appering in all standard pages .
For standard pages they have attached the standard function with standard menu (ICX_GLOBAL_MENU) due to which help is appearing in all the standard pages but if we want to have the help link on custom pages then we have to manually set the page layout property "Help Target" of all the custom pages .
It worked for me and issue is resolved now.

  • Error while deploying, Custom Style Skin in OBIEE 11.1.1.6.7

    Hi,
I have deployed Custom Style Skin in OBIEE 11.1.1.5 successfuly (with the help of http://www.rittmanmead.com/2010/12/oracle-bi-ee-11g-styles-skins-custom-xml-messages/ ).
Now when we're moving RPD, Catalog & Custom Style Skin from OBIEE 11.1.1.5 to OBIEE 11.1.1.6.7, I could deploy RPD & Catalog but am not able to deploy Custom Style & Skin Folders.
If you are aware of the process of deploying Custom Style & Skins (as mentioned in the link above), it requies:
    1. Custom Style & Skins folder to be Deploy using Weblogic Console.
    2. Making necessary changes in instanceconfig.xml (to point to the deployed folder) ---- this is where it's failing.
When I do add necessary tags ( <URL> & <UI>) in instanceconfig.xml and restart Services. Presentation Services dosen't come up. Error message that is in log file is:
In element URL: Can not have element children within a simple content.
    unknown element 'UI'
Element 'UI' is not valid for content model : 'All(URL, SocketTimeoutSec,FileSizeMB)'
    Any pointers?

    Hi,
I too faced such issue, actually obiee11.1.1.5 version skin and style wont work in obiee11.1.1.6.0 and above patch ..
u have do it once again by using obiee11.1.1.6.0 skin (because the 11.1.16.0 has UI and skin different from 11.1.1.5.0 )

  • Add hyperlink  - Custom sign in page OBIEE 11g

    Hello,
I a m trying to customize the sign in page.
We already succeeded, but a file disapeared ad we can't do it again...
I explain, we have created the path
    /opt/oracle/obiee/middleware/biee11g
In this path we have :
    customMessages
    sk_pageaideaccueil
    s_pageaideaccueil
    WEB-INF
In the customMessages we have :
    messages/l_en/
    and the files :
    logonmessages.xml and
    productmessages.xml
So, we modified some files to add an hyperlink "help" on the sign in page.
In the logonmessages.xml we add the line :
    <WebMessage name="kmsgSampleMsg1"><HTML><sawm:if name="logonURL"> <a href="/analytics/olh/l_en/scorecard026.htm">Help</a></sawm:if></HTML></WebMessage>^M
of course kmsgSampleMsg1 = Help is already created too.
    So we are here.
I have my custom logonmessages.xml file in my custom path and i have the help folder in the original path :
    /opt/oracle/obiee/middleware/Oracle_BI1/bifoundation/web/app/olh/l_en/
When I write an existing file like scorecard026.htm (or any other file which is from OBIEE) it's okay.
But if I copy scorecard026 and I rename it helpme.htm, if I write in the path:
    <WebMessage name="kmsgSampleMsg1"><HTML><sawm:if name="logonURL"> <a href="/analytics/olh/l_en/helpme.htm">Help</a></sawm:if></HTML></WebMessage>^M
It told me 404 error even after retsarting the coreapplication service.
Do you know what I missing ?
    Thank you,
    Antoine

Hello JaniRautiainen and thanks for your answer !
So you have understod quite well the problem
I just want to add a link to the sign in page so like you said : "there is no change to the actual login behavior".
After that, when I click on the link "help" tha I have addes on the page, the redirection is fine (the link is working).
But the page does not work, I have a mistake if I use the name of a file I have added to :
    /opt/oracle/obiee/middleware/Oracle_BI1/bifoundation/web/app/olh/l_en/
But if I use a file which already exists in this path ,it's working...
So I think that there is another file somewhere which know the files which are from Oracle or not.
A new problem now, if I use a file which exists for exemple biee0002.htm, it's working. So when I click on my help link I arrive on this page.
But now, if I modify the file biee0002.htm and I restart the coreapplication services, the file I see is the same...
So it appears that I am in the wrong path...
Do you have something on this ?
    Thank you
    Antoine

  • How do I send a customer a link so that he can view what I have done so far on his website?

I am doing my first website with Dreamweaver and I don't know how to send/email my customer a link for him to review what I have done so far ?

Upload (PUT) your files to a Web server and send him the URL to a page on that server. A URL would look like this:

  • Resetting the id of dynamically generated JSF custom command link

I have a java faces page which displays data from an arraylist.
This list is populated when user inputs data in the input text field and clicks "Add Group" button.
The arralylist consist of another arraylist within the former.
I have created a custom command link for the former arraylist.
As an user can add data to the arraylist so can he remove it from the arraylist.
The command link has a method binding "closeTask" which is invoked when command link is clicked.
This action removes the clicked element from the arraylist and displays the fresh list.
The key field from the bean in the former arraylist is set in request, and is retrieved in the "closeTask" method to be assigned to the command link output text id (i.e. it identifies the element that is to be deleted from the arraylist).
This functionality does not work as expected, i.e. command link component is not created/rendered during deletion as it is created while addition.
As a result eventhough the element is removed from the arraylist, the id corresponding to the fresh arraylist is not refreshed and for further actions correct id is not passed and the deletion function does not work.
How can I have resolve this problem?
    The sample code is included.
    Thanks in advance.
