Customizing a Sig 3171

I need some help on customizing sig 3171, FTP priviledged login. I would like once this sig fires a certain number of times it will block the host. I have my device setup for blocking and I thought I had this sig cloned correctly to block the host after a certain number events, but this sig is still firing from the same host well past the desired number. I don't really want to block this after the first event in case their is any legitimate traffic.
Any advice or direction is appreciated.
Thanks

On this signature, you need to look at following fields-
Event Count
Event Count Key
Alert Interval
Event Action
By configuring the following event counter fields, you specify how many instances of the signature's traffic are required to cause an alert:
Event Count - Here you can specify lets say 5.
Event Count Key - Here You can specify Attacker Address.
Alert Interval - You may leave this blank or lets say specify 20 seconds.
Event Action - Specify Produce Alert+Request Block Host
The Event Count field identifies how many instances of the signature's traffic need to occur before an alert is generated. So with above values defined, if a specific host hits the command 5 times within 20 seconds, alert will be generated and host will be blocked on the blocking device.
By specifying an Alert Interval, you indicate the time period (in seconds) over which the sensor must see the number of instances of the intrusive traffic equal to the Event Count in order to generate an alert. For instance, if the Alert Interval is set to 20 and the Event Count is 5, then the sensor must see five instances of the signature's traffic in 20 seconds before it generates an alert. At the end of the alert interval, the instance count is reset to 0.
You can also configure a signature without an Alert Interval parameter. In that situation, an alert is generated when the instances of the signature's traffic reach the Event Count, regardless of the time interval.
Please make sure that signature is configured accordingly. If it is then we need to start looking into other domains.

Vibhor.

  • Custom IPS sigs on NGFW (ASA-CX) IPS solution?

    Hi folks,
    I am trying to determine if it is possible to create custom IPS sigs on the ASA-CX module?  Not the ASA + Legacy IPS combo, but the ASA + ASA-CX (Application Detection, Web Filtering, IPS) combo.
    I couldn't find anything in the docs that said this was possible.
    Thanks!
    Neil

    Thank you for your response.  However my question was targeted towards Intrusion Prevention signatures such as the ones found on the traditional IPS units.  I would want the ability to use the various IPS engines such as Atomic IP, HTTP, etc and create sigs that match on things inside the packet, URL string, etc.
    Thanks!

  • Detecting non-standard ftp usage (!= tcp 21) using IDSM2 5.0 & CN-MARS v3.4

    Hello,
    We recently installed our IDSMs and a MARS box to monitor our core traffic. I'm trying to set up a MARS "User Inspection Rule" to notify me when there is FTP traffic on a port other than port 21. Is there an easy way to do this?
    I don't see any IPS sigs that will trigger on normal FTP events(e.g. open data connection success, STOR and RETR request, etc.) I'm sure someone out there has already set up something like this before? Any help is appreciated.
    Ryan

    Take a look at sig 3171 to get a feel for how a custom signature might look, then create your own. To be honest, I've not done a lot of custom sigs...but looking on every port for ftp-like behavior seems like it might put quite a burden on your sensor.

  • Custom sig: Non-SSL over SSL port

    I am trying to build a custom signature for detecting non-SSL traffic on a specific SSL port (let's say tcp/443). This has to do with CONNECT tunnels through an HTTP proxy. Conceptually, it's not a complicated idea. Whether or not it can technically be done effectively with the Cisco IPS I don't know.
    It seems that very early in every SSL connection, there is an SSL "client hello" message(SYN,SYN/ACK,ACK,CLIENT HELLO). There are two relevant record formats, SSLv2 and SSLv2/TLS. I would like to create a signature that fires when it DOES NOT see the client hello message very early in a given TCP session. I would want the signature to only need to check the very first n packets of any given TCP session (n = max size of connection establishment + max size of client hello packet). Has anyone created such a beast or willing to help? Here are a couple packets.

    Hi mhellman:
    I can see 3 difficulties with this kind of sign.
    1) To determine the order of the packets.
    2) To determine that happen at the very begining of the conection
    3) fire when the traffic doesn't match with the signature.
    The difficulty number 3, I think, is imposible to resolve because the sensor can compare the trafic with a well defined pattern and fire when it match, but not when it doen't.
    The difficult number 2
    You need a kind of state signature because this can be classified like a machine state (first three way handshake, then hello packet) but I can't see fields in the state engine that help in this case.
    The difficult number 1 could be resolved by a Meta signature.
    You will need to create an a custom atomic signature for the syn packet, another for the syn ack, another to ack, and the last one for hellow packet.
    Then create a meta signature and add the fourth atomic singatures whith a strict order.
    but guess what...
    Meta signature doesn't permit custom signatures.
    I think this kind of signature is imposible to write.
    But I'd try.

  • Optimizing system for best performance/stability and a custom kernel

    I have ArchLinux running on a MacBook 4.1 (early 2008), and it's running very well so far. But I would like to optimize it for best performance and stability (but not at the cost of losing 'graphical interface' quality). I want to compile a custom kernel, and I actually did once, but didn't do it well (and removed it), so I need some help from experts to tell me what should I disable or enable when compiling a custom kernel.
    I will post dmesg and lspci (and rc.conf) here, but if you need any other information, please tell me.
    Thanks.

    This might not help you a lot, but if you want a stable system, try using packages from the repo wherever possible, look at the news before you update your system and don't mess things up (like bad configuration etc.).
    When it comes to performance, you won't gain much by compiling linux by yourself! Just use the linux package from [core] or if you want a bit more performance, install the ck-kernel from
    [repo-ck]
    Server = http://repo-ck.com/$arch
    (this has to go to the bottom of /etc/pacman.conf)
    (use that one which is best for your cpu (in your case this might be the package linux-ck-corex).
    Hmmm, Linux-ck-corex doesn't even load.. I am now trying to install the generic one. Hope it works.
    Edit: I will first try linux-lqx...

  • How do you use a custom login application?

    I have setup a custom Login Application as instructed from the admin guide, but cannot find any instructions on how you then go about using it. Some other posts on here mention customising/linking a page to it based on the user Login.jsp, but they arn't clear on the steps to do this.

    The solution I was using was a single sign on system called CAS, which handled the authentication. The class I used is shown here:
    http://www.ja-sig.org/wiki/display/CAS/CASifying+Sun+Identity+Manager
    The java class is called: CASResourceAdapter.java
    Most of this code is not used. The bit you would be interested in is in the method named:
    public WavesetResult authenticate(HashMap loginInfo) throws WavesetExceptionIf you delete all the code in here and replace it with the code below as most of this is a customised search that the author wrote:
         final String method = "authenticate";
         if (_trace.level1(this,method))
                _trace.entry(WSTrace.LEVEL1, this, method);
            WavesetResult result = new WavesetResult();
            String userId = (String)loginInfo.get(USER);
            if(_trace.level2(this,method))
              _trace.info(_trace.LEVEL2, this, method, USER + " = " + userId);
              _trace.info(_trace.LEVEL2, this, method, "map: " +  loginInfo);
            if (_trace.level2(this,method))
                _trace.info(_trace.LEVEL2, this, method, "Obtained user '" + userId + "' from info: " + String.valueOf(loginInfo));
            result.addResult(Constants.AUTHENTICATED_IDENTITY, userId);
            return result;You could also remove the trace code. The code you would be interested in particular would be:
    WavesetResult result = new WavesetResult();
    String userId = (String)loginInfo.get(USER);
    if(_trace.level2(this,method))
    result.addResult(Constants.AUTHENTICATED_IDENTITY, userId);
    return result;The logininfo is a method used to retrieve whatever userid was used to authenticate. This is what was needed to retreive the userid from CAS. You will need to replace this with custom code to retreive the userid from your webservice.
    Once you are happy with the code, place the compiled class with the correct package levels in idm/web-inf/classes. You may need to create the folder called classes.
    Next login to your idm and goto resources and then configure types. Add a custom resource to point to your new class In my case it was edu.unmerced.idm.adapter.CASResourceAdaptor. Save this and then add this as a resource in your resources screen and except all defaults and give it a custom name of your choice.
    You then need to add this resource to each of your users.
    Next you need to goto configure and then login. In here you need to create a new login module group and point it to your CAS resource. Then change the default login for the users login application to use this new login group. See idm specific documentation on how to do this
    Reboot your idm application server.
    You would now use your alternative webservice system to authenticate and then afterwards get it to forward to your idm and if the code picks up the user from your webservice correctly you should be logged into idm as that user.

    how do you connect your photoshop elements on your computer to your account online? and how do you create a customized url? how does the gallery work and how do you access it? i have trouble signing in on my program from my computer to connect to the online photoshop, and I really want to create my own customized url and post photos to my gallery and share them with the world, family, and friends, but i need help because i can't figure how to do any of this, would really appreciate feedback and assistance, thanks, - claire conlon

    To add to sig's reply, "calibrating" does not calibrate Lithiu-Ion batteries, it calibrates the charge reporting circuitry.  If you look at the effect of deep discharging Lithium-Ion batteries in the data from the independent test group, Battery University, you will see that doing so shortens the life of the battery significantly. It looks like an optimum balance between use and life is at a discharge level of 50%.

  • Q-sig Integration AS5400 / Hicon 300 E

    I have a AS5400 router, and it has two E1/R2 interfaces and One E1/PRI(ISDN/QSIG).The first E1(6/7) are linked with PBX (ISDN Q-Sig) and the second E1 I used to remote access with E1 R2 linked with PSTN it's work fine.
    The problem is with ISDN/Q-SIG voice works:
    Below the configuration: (sh ver, Debug q931 and 921)
    Phone -- PABX/Hicom 300 -- E1/PRI(ISDN-Qsig) -- AS5400 --- 2621 -- E1/R2 -- PABX/Hicom 300 Phone

    Any idea?
    Can someone help me?
    Regards

    The call received on AS5400 over isdn-qsig line was disconnected because of CALL-PROCEEDING was not received by PBX/Hicom switch.
    So number 5901155099050 will match the voip dial-peer 159 and ip call will be initiated to 2621. Now 2621 will initiate the call over E1-R2 to pbx/switch and call-proceeding has to be generated by that switch which will be forwarded back to isdn-qsig switch/pbx. I think that delayed too much and finally switch may have timedout and disconnect the call.
    So turn on "debug voip ccapi inout" and "debug isdn q931" on both the gateways involved to see what happened with that call.

  • How to load a custom waveform for use with DAQ voltage generation

    I would appreciate some advice on how to take a custom waveform (just a modified triangle wave with pauses at the tops and bottoms) and use that to control the voltage output from a DAQ.
    Some background:  My intent is to use the waveform to control mirror scanning for a LADAR imaging application .  Because our DAQ (NI-6251) only has one clock, it cannot update the X and Y channel voltages independently. I'm using a triangle wave to control both axes, which works fine for the X direction.  However, to prevent the Y axis from incrementally steping up after every X pixel, I'd like to construct a waveform, similar to a step pyramid, so that the Y axis remains constant over the X sweep and only updates to the next row after all X pixels are collected.
    I assume I can make the desired plot in excel, and then read it in somehow - but this is where I start to get fuzzy.  Can any one point me to an example or tutorial on this?
    Some other questions:
    1. Do I needto worry about scaling? will my custom plot need to contain a specific number of points (perhaps the exact number of pixels in the image)?
    2. If I change the image dimensions, will I need to revise the control waveform in the Y axis?
    Thanks in advance,
    jimmy

    This thread didn't appear to go anywhere.  I am trying to do something similar and was looking for help.  I want to create a repeating output voltage wave based off the excel file attached(with times).  Is there a way to have my program match the output voltage and time with the table attached on a repeat and send that signal to the output?
    Thanks,
    T

  • Can you copy custom To Do List settings from one project to another?

    Using RH9. We created a number of To Do List entries for one of our Robohelp projects that we now want to use in all of our RH projects (File > Project Settings > Manage To Do List for Robohelp Project). Is it possible to copy these entries from one project to another? Or do we need to re-create the list of To Do tasks for each one of our 20+ projects?

    Hi there
    The "To Do" list items appear to be stored directly in the ProjectName.XPJ file. So theoretically it would be possible to copy them by opening one XPJ using Windows Notepad, copying them, then opening the target XPJ and pasting. However, this will likely cause a disparity between the XPJ and the .CPD. So before actually opening the project where you are copying them into, you would want to close the project and delete the CPD. Then modify the XPJ and re-open the project. A fresh CPD should then be baked up and things should be in sync.
    You might also want to submit a Wish Form to ask for an easier way to transfer custom lists. (link is always in my sig)

    No, that was my fault. I updated my release scripts yesterday and the new ones did not create the database signature symlink. I just fixed it about 10 minutes ago.
    Change the SigLevel back to Required, otherwise Pacman will not verify the databases. Everything should be working again.
    Cheers, upgrading is back to normal (good work on the repo btw)

  • Can Captivate 3 Support a Rollover and a Custom Button in the Same Area?

    Hello,
    I'm trying to create a functionality in a slide that includes both a custom button and a rollover text box.  I'd like both the button and the text box to occupy the same area and trigger off the same MouseOver action.
    I'm finding that only one or the other will trigger on the MouseOver.  It seems like only the top-most object (whether it is the button or the rollover text box) will trigger on the MouseOver.
    I've considered multiple workarounds, but each of them I've thought about tend not to fail for one reason or another.  Here's what I've considered so far:
    Create a rollover slidelet.
              *  I can't find a way to import a button into the rollover slidelet.  Also, I can't use a rollover image in the slidelet because I need the _down, _up, and _over states.
    Create a button with transparent properties outside the bounds of the actual button to include the rollover text.
              *  Since I have so many buttons in a row, there's no way to exclude certain portions of the button that might overlap the rest of the buttons.  Also, I don't want people to MouseOver where the text box might be to enable the button.
    Create a click to jump to the button.
              *  This sacrifices the true functionality of the simulation.
    Finally, I don't want to use any other program other than the Captivate series of programs to complete this action.  I know I can import an animation, but I currently can't support that as a solution.
    I'm guessing that I've reached a Captivate limitation.  However, I figured I'd give a last ditch effort to see if there's anything out there that might be a clever workaround I can't figure out.
    So, what do you all think?
    Cheers,
    Chris

    Hi again
    I would then surmise you find yourself upstream with no visible means of propulsion.
    Please consider submitting a Wish Form to ask for this capability to be considered in the next version. (Link is in my sig)
    I'm not sure how many folks would actually realize there are three states. The down state happens so briefly it's hardly noticeable.

  • Bad PBR Sig - Solaris 10 x86 06/06

    Hello all,
    I have seen this error over and over... "Bad PBR Sig" and I have yet to find a way to fix it.
    I am installing Solaris 10 on a brand new disk. When the installation asks me, I tell it to use the whole disk for Solaris. Call me crazy, but I would expect this to also configure the disk to be bootable. The installation proceeds without problem and then when it reboots, I get the error.
    I have searched Sunsolve, Google and everywhere else I could think to look, but I cannot find an answer on how to fix it. I see lots of guesses as to why the problem shows up, but no step-by-step's on how to fix it.
    My system is a basic Dell, P4 2Ghz, 512MB RAM, single 40GB HDD and a DVD-ROM drive. Nothing special here. No multi-booting, only one drive... just a simple, basic PC.
    Windows installs fine, so I know it isnt the disk.
    I understand that for some reason Solaris cant make a disk bootable during installation... which baffles me. Sometimes it seems to be able to and other times it cant. It just doesnt make sense to me how Windows can boot from any disk you give it, but Solaris has a fit.
    Anyway, is there anyone out there who can help me make a disk bootable for Solaris 10 after its been installed? I am relatively new to this and it is most frustrating when something as simple as booting the OS that was just installed is do difficult.
    Thanks in advance to anyone who can help or point me to where I can find help.

    I had the same problem in Solaris 10 X86 Update 8 (10/09). After reading this thread, it made me wonder "Why would the GUI install work, and a Custom JumpStart not?" Well, I looked at the way I was specifying the partition table in the jumpstart client profile, and found that when you use "partitioning explicit" I run into this problem. BUT! When I use "partitioning default" all works just fine.
    So, rather than doing something like this:
    partitioning explicit
    filesys rootdisk.s0 32768 /
    filesys rootdisk.s1 8192 swap
    filesys rootdisk.s2 all overlap
    filesys rootdisk.s3 free /var
    I changed to doing this:
    partitioning default
    filesys any 32768 /
    filesys any 8192 swap
    filesys any free /var
    So, whatever the suninstaller does differently using the second specification avoids the bug.
    Also, I did verify, the "Bad PBR sig" error only comes up if installing onto a freshly installed disk, or in my case, a fresly created RAID set. (We have the X4150s with the StorageTek RAID controller.) Just for fun I re-jumpstarted a second time using the "partitioning explicit" method above, and the system booted just fine. So whatever the suninstaller does the first time around (when using "partitioning default") sticks. That's probably why this bug hasn't been caught in testing. Most (or many??) systems from Sun come pre-installed, and unless you re-configure your RAID volumes, you won't run into this problem.

  • Certification, Customer Performance Benchmarks & Lidar Technical Sessions At Oracle Spatial Summit

    Here is a spotlight on some training sessions that may be of interest, offered at LI/Oracle Spatial Summit in DC, May 19-21.  www.locationintelligence.net/dc/agenda .

    Steve Pierce, Think Huddle & Albert Godfrind, Oracle
    Learn valuable strategies and review technical topics with the experts who developed the exam – and achieve your Oracle Spatial Specialist Certification with the most efficient effort. This session will enable you to master difficult topics (such as GeoRaster, 3D/LIDAR support, topology) quickly through clear examples and demos. Sample questions and exam topic breakdown will be covered. Individual certifications can also apply to requirements for organizations seeking Oracle PartnerNetwork Specialized status.
    Offered as both a Monday technical workshop (preregistration required), and Wednesday overview session.
    Content in this session is only available at the Oracle Spatial Summit.
    The performance debate is over: Spatial 12c Performance / Customer Benchmark Track
    Hear the results of customer benchmarks testing the performance of the 12c release of Spatial and Graph – with results up to 300 times faster. In this track, Nick Salem of Neustar and Steve Pierce of Think Huddle will share benchmarks with actual performance results already realized.
    Customers can now address the largest geospatial workloads and see performance increases of 50 to 300 times for common vector analysis operations. With just a small set of configuration changes – and no changes to application code – applications can realize these significant performance improvements. You’ll also learn tips for accelerating performance and running benchmarks with your applications on your systems.
    Effectively Utilize LIDAR Data In Your Business Processes
    Daniel Geringer, Oracle
    Many organizations collect large amounts of LIDAR, or point cloud data for more precise asset management. ROI of the high costs associated with this type of data acquisition is frequently compromised by the underutilization of the data. This session focuses on ways to leverage Oracle Engineered Systems to highly compress and seamlessly store LIDAR data and effectively search it spatially in its compressed form to enhance your business process. Topics covered included loading, compressing, pyramiding, searching and generation of derivative products such as DEMs, TINs, and Contours.
    Many other technical sessions and tracks will cover spatial technologies with depth and breadth.
    Customers including Garmin, Burger King, US Census Bureau, US DOJ, and more will also present use cases using MapViewer & Spatial in location intelligence/BI, transportation, land management and more.

  • Context menu for customized selfwritten VI

    Hallo!
    Maybe someone knows and has time to share: is it possible to create a customized popup/context menu for a customized - self written VI (vide .jpg)? And as working with LV 2011 I have realised it's impossible to create a polymorphic VI out of other polymorphic vi-s right?  If anybody knew any walk through, I will be thankfull
    A.

    Dear Aleph,
    information about creating run time context menus can be found here: http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3171/en/
    Another soultion, is to create your own VI that will po up when a user uses his RMB on a specific object. This can be achieved by properly using the Event Structure. Let me know if you need more information.
    What do you mean by creating a polymorphic VI from a polymorphic VI?
    Best regards,
