Customizing blocking screen by Access Restriction of Linksys router

Hi,
I've recently deployed the Access Restriction of my linksys rounter and it works fine. When I try visiting the website which I've set to be blocked, a screen with the message  "Website blocked by Linksys Firewall" is shown.
May I know how I can change this screen to another screen or change the message to another message (say something like "the website has expired") instead?
Thanks a lot for your kind help!
Best Regards,
Michael.

That would take a change to the firmware...not possible with the stock firmware. If your router supports 3rd party firmware (don't know as you didn't provide a model) you may be able to work around it, but it would take some fairly in-depth Linux know how.....
Tomato 1.25vpn3.4 (SgtPepperKSU MOD) on a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54
D-Link DSM-320 (Wired)

  • WRT160Nv3 problem with blocking traffic using Access Restrictions

    Hi.
I want something quite simple. Block Youtube. I go into "Access Restrictions", choose a name for policy 1, enable it, choose the pc from the pc list, but then...
if a click Deny, all other options will be disabled (greyed out, can't click nor write on them).
Therefore, I can't put the urls I want (youtube).
I tried writing the url with "allow" and then change it to "deny" but it will block ALL traffic.
    No good.
So, how do I make a new policy just to block this one URL?
Is it normal that when I click and choose "Deny" everything gets disabled afterwards?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Leo
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

for internet access policy DENY means to restrict internet access during specified days and hours. this will block ALL internet traffic for the said schedule. website blocking by URL, blocking by means of keyword and blocking applications would then be NOT AVAILABLE as the computers would not have internet access to begin with if you have such a policy disabled.
for your case, you may want to try to set restriction to ALLOW internet access then specify youtube.com under Website Blocking by URL. this would allow computers to have access to the internet all the time (if you have the schedule set to EVERYDAY) or during specific days and hours but NOT have access to youtube.

  • WRT54GX v2 : Access restrictions rules fails

    Hi,
I have updated the router (WRT54GX v2) with the last firmware "Firmware Version: 2.00.20".
I have setup some website URL to block in the access restrictions screen.
I tried several samples like :
    http://www.xxxx.com, http://*.xxxxx.com, www.xxxxx.com
Only one URL has been blocked one time. I tried again for 2nd time to access to the same website and then all url were allowed.
Currently all URLs blocked can be accessed.
Is there some people which have the same problem ?
    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion.  I've tried it but no success. I have learned something interesting though:
With this hardware/firmware Wrtg54c v2.0 / Firmware 1.00.7 you cannot have 2 enabled ALLOW rules that apply to the same MAC address. If you try then ALL internet access for that device is blocked.
I guess that if you allow one time slot it aUtomatically denies everything else, and the deny overrides any second Allow you create. Like I say - this is a guess because in there is no documentation.
It is possible to have an ADD and a DENY rule for one device.  ie you can ALLOW internet access  6am to 11pm  and have a second rule to DENY access between 5 - 6 pm.  This seem to work for my limited testing.
I did want to test one rule applying to IP address range and another to a MAC address - and then I discovered that when you use the 'Assign Static IP' function - that also does not work. ie - give it a MAC address and tell the DHCP function to always assign it a specific IP has no effect.  Whether the IP is in the normal DHCP range or outside of it seems to make no difference.
Verily I say unto you "This firmware is a buggy".

  • Access Restriction

I think Linksys should redesign the Access Restriction in the Router configuration.  I currently have a 3rd party software block some sites at my stepson's computer.  However, I cannot block those website whenever he uses his PSP or his iPod Touch.  It would be nice to be able to have more options to block more web sites.  In addition, the current configuration for access restrictions does not make any sence and is very cumbersome.  For example, I have setup four policies; Sun - Fri from 12:00am to 7:00pm, Sun - Thr (Night) from 9:30pm to 11:55pm, Sat - Sun from 2:00am to 12:00pm, and Sun from 9:30 to 11:55pm.  All those policies are set to Deny internet dureing those hours.  The PROBLEM is that if you set the option to "Deny" is that when he is able to access the internet, I cannot block the harmfull website.  On the other hand, if I change the policiy to "Allow" and block certain web site, then the hours for Sat - Sun gives me errors because of the time.  Because I want to allow internet access Sat and Sun from 12:00pm to 2:00am, the application says that the end time is less than begin time.
Wireless Router Model: WRT54GS ver 6

    1. You may want to read this thread. There I have pointed out how access restrictions should work if they would work correctly. Unfortunately, on many routers they don't work correctly.
    2. Access restrictions won't help you with your stepson. He'll quickly figure out how to circumvent them either by changing his IP address, MAC address, by using proxy services to avoid the web site blocking, or simply by plugging in a usb wireless adapter and surfing through your neighbor's unprotected or WEP protected wireless router. Access restrictions are very primitive and no match to a child.
    3. You cannot configure policies through midnight. You have to split them into the time before midnight (until 23:55, 11:55pm) and the time after midnight. The 5 minutes between 11:55pm and midnight cannot be filtered. That's the reason why you cannot set policies from 7:00 pm to 2:00 am or from 12:00pm (12:00, noon) to 2:00am next morning.
    4. To have restricted access at all times you have to configure policies for all times of the week. Each policy is either "Deny" denying all internet access in the specified timeframe or "Allow" allowing internet access in the specified timeframe with certain exceptions (url, keyword, and service blocking).
    5. For any time frame not covered by any policy the default policy applies. As I have pointed out in the other thread, the router implementation seem to vary very much in this point and you have to carefully test it what it is on your router: I think often it is an allow all policy, i.e. at times with no policy all traffic is permitted. However, I think some routers/firmwares try to make an "intelligent" guess what the default policy should be depending on the policies defined, for example you define allow policies and the default policy will be deny all. But so far I have found no conclusive description on what they implemented exactly in the router.

  • Newbie with ? abt access restrictions

A friend gave us their old WRT120N so we now have wifi at home. I know it doesn't have parental controls per se, but can I use the access restrictions to turn off wi-fi at a certain time each night and turn it back on in the morning? With so many wifi devices in the house it is hard to control each one individually so I'd like to just turn off wifi on the router at a certain time each night. I need to still be able to use the pc which is comected to the router via port 4, but I don't want the wii. kindle, or phones or any other device to be able to use the wifi network.
    We're at firmware version v1.0.07..
. I am new to all this and don't understand how most of this works, so all help is appreciated.

Well they must be all on the network if they have internet access.
What you could do is set your PC to a Static IP address:
    Ex:
    IP Address: 192.168.1.10
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    DNS: 192.168.1.1
Then create an Access Restrictions policy that uses the IP Address range of your DHCP settings.
    Ex:
Restrict access for IP Address Range 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.150
Then when the other devices connect they will have to follow your access policy because their IP Address will be in the restricted policy IP Address range but your PC won't be because it's IP Address is out of the policy range.
Sorry this is a little complex but the Access Restrictions on this router aren't user friendly.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • Linksys router not seen by Airport Setup Assistant

I recently started using a linksys router instead of and airport extreme, it's working, I am able to access the internet. But, my problem is I cannot see it in the Airport set up Assistant. I have not been able to setup my Airport Express because I can't see my wireless router.
    Any one have any ideas?

Bronco46, Welcome to the discussion area!
I recently started using a linksys router ... my problem is I cannot see it in the Airport set up Assistant.
The AirPort Setup Assistant and AirPort Admin Utility are ONLY for Apple's base stations and therefore won't give you access to the Linksys router.
You need to access the Linksys user's guide and follow the directions for using your browser to configure the Linksys router.
I have not been able to setup my Airport Express because I can't see my wireless router.
Configuring the AirPort Express (AX) has nothing to do with configuring the Linksys router. Configure the AX following the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • WRT54G2 and WRT54G locks-up (freezes) when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions

I am convinced that a few Linksys routers such as WRT54G2 and WRT54G have a major issue when blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy). After a few hours of internet access by 15 wired users the Linksys locks-up and blocks all internet web access. The only solution is to restart the power on the router.
We are currently using a Linksys WRT54G2 v1 (firmware 1.0.04). We upgraded the WRT54G2 v1 firmware to the latest 1.0.04 version which did not resolve the issue.  NOTE: We were previosuly using a a Linksys WRT54G v1.1 (firmware 4.21.1) until the power supply blew a week after we started blocking web sites using Access Restrictions (Internet Access Policy).
Basically, we have a T1 internet connection and a hub connected to the Linksys router. We are trying to block several web sites such as facebook, myspace, etc. for 15 wired users. We do not use wireless connections.
This is the 2nd time it happened with 2 different models.
    Please help ASAP.
    Thank you,
    Lance
(Mod note: Edited post. Some parts off topic.. Thanks!)

Also,  you have already upgrade/re-flash the firmware of your Linksys Router you need to reset and reconfigure your router from scratch. Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • How can I access eBay pages marked "blocked due to legal restrictions of some countries"/ All other browsers do not block.

Using Vista Ultimate 64x and Firefox (any version) I keep hitting eBay page blocks that read "Unfortunately, access to this particular item has been blocked due to legal restrictions in some countries..." These same pages can be accessed with IE or Chrome so it is not really a legal restriction.
How can I get Firefox to allow these eBay pages to display? I include the url of one blocked page.

  • Access Restrictions - Blocked Applications does not save

Under the Access Restrictions section it is possible to Block Applications.
I enter a name for the application, the port range (from and to) and whether it is TCP, UDP or both. I then hit ADD which adds the application to the list of Blocked Applications in the box above. I then scroll down thru that box to find the App and [>>] add it to the Blocked List. I then hit SAVE SETTINGS
Upon returning to the policy and the Blocked Apps list the record I just created is nowhere to be found. Not in the Blocked List or under Applications.
    What gives ???

    Wireless-N Gigabit Router
    Model: WRT310N
    Firmware Version: v1.0.06
    All PCs run VISTA
I don't see how a HARD RESET and POWER RECYCLE creates a fix for this. All that does is reboot the existing firmware and causes me to have to reenter all the router and security settings. The documentation for the lastest firmware (version Ver.1.0.9 build 4 12/11/2009) and the previous upgrade (1.0.07 build 14) does not include references to a fix for this problem. Has this been identified before and what firmware version is the fix included in ?
I have held off performing the 1.0.9 firmware upgrade as I have no confidence that this will fix this problem.

  • Access Restrictions - Blocking 1 site

Has anyone gotten this to work?

Which website you are trying to Block on the Linksys router. Try to block that website using that website IP address or else you can do it by using a Host Name. I think this might solve your problem.

  • My router Linksys E2500 block outlook web access

Hi, my router is blocking my web access to Outlook and I don't know how to fix it. I search every where with Google and I did not found anything. Thanks for the help.

In case anyone else has this problem: FIOS came out and put me on an old D-Link router. Problem solved.
They have since replaced the D-Link with their Actiontec (which I had originally) but they upgraded the firmware to an as yet unreleased version. Problem solved.
    Good luck.

  • Access Restrictions still not working with latest firmware

    Linksys WRT54GS V5 with firmware v1.52.2
I cannot believe what a frustrating experience this is. All I want to do is block facebook.com from my two high schoolers until they’ve done their homework.
Starting out, it simply did NOT work, and I discovered from this forum that the initial firmware did not work for this feature. So here is what I did:
    - Downloaded v1.52.2 firmware, which is indicated as being the latest for this router
    - Upgraded the router, per the instructions with this firmware.
    - Pressed (and held)the reset button for the indicated 30 seconds
At this point, my router switched back to the default access point name and access password. Fortunately, I had backed up my configuration, so I then:
    - Loaded my previous configuration that included my Wireless security settings, different AP name, etc...
    - Powered down, then back up router, cable modem.
Router now works wireless as before, but Access Restrictions still does not restrict. Router does list the correct firmware on the admin screens.
Here is how I sent up my one (and only policy)
    Internet Access Policy: 1(facebook)
    Status: Enable
    Enter policy name: facebook
    PCs: Allow checked
    Days: Everyday checked
    Times: 24 hours checked
    Blocked Services: NONE
    Wewbsite Blocking by URL Addresses:
    3 entered, they are:
    http://www.facebook.com
    http://static.ak.facebook.com
    http://apps.facebook.com
Website blocking by keyword: All 6 boxes empty
This was easier to do on my old netgear router, and it also actually WORKED. ARGHHHHHH

Thanks, but that did not work either. It seems to me that, entering mac addresses ended up totally taking away all internet access for the computers on the MAC list. This is really pathetic that a concept that on the surface seems so simple, as in 'deny access to hostname xxx.com' can be so difficult to implement. If there wasn't the suggestion that this were a feature of the router, I wouldn't care. But it *is* supposedly a feature, and the feature simply does not work.
It seem to me that LinkSys has too many mutually exclusive options on a single page. It would be easier to grok if the hostname filter had it's own page, then you wouldn't be wondering what the 'deny/allow' check box did or did not do in conjunction with your selections.
Does the feature work or not? As I mentioned, this was childishly easy to accomplish on my Netgear router. If it didn't suck so bad in other areas of performance, I'd simply go back to it.

  • Access restrictions - Any documentation or suggestions?

I want set up fairly simple internet access rules - but it's just not working. I cant find any documentation beyond the very basics in the manual. Can someone help me with the logic behind defining overlapping Access Restriction rules?
I'm assuming the restrictions work in the same way for all the simple wireless routers - but for the record I have a WRT54GC V2, firmware 1.00.7. I think that's the latest - cant find any upgrades to the firmware.
I can set up simple rules - allow/restrict a pc or group by MAC or IP address. That is documented, and easy. The problem comes when I try to combine rules.
Say I want a PC to have internet access 9 - 5, Mon to Fri, but allow facebook only between 1 - 2 pm on those days.
I set up the first rule to Allow 9 - 5 by MAC address and it works. I set up another rule for the same MAC address to Allow 1 -2pm , but block facebook.com. During that period (1 - 2pm) internet access works, and Facebook delivers a black screen "Blocked by Linksys Router" - As expected.
But at 2.01pm when the second rule is no longer active - all internet access stops. All sites just time out.
I've also tried defining 3 rules:  9am to 1pm, 1 - 2, and 2 -5pm, but that has the same result. All pages fail to load.
I've been playing with this for a while trying global DENY rules and adding ALLOW exceptions, changing the order I create the rules, etc - but I just cant make it work.
Any suggestions? am I missing something simple? or is it just a feature that does not work?
    Thanks.
