Customizing profile and copying to default

what is the best way to customize a profile and copy that to the default?
What I have been doing is
login as an admin, customize the desktop, settings, themes, etc... then log out
login as another admin user,  delete the Default user profile under c:\Users\Default
rename the Admin folder to Default
Go under the Default and remove the User.dat file
how else would you do it?

The only supported method for customizing the default user profile in Windows Vista and newer is to use the CopyProfile setting with Sysprep. This is the only way to ensure that all user-specific
information is properly removed from the profile and to ensure that new user accounts created from the default user profile are properly directed to their own, unique resources. Your error with new user profiles being directed to the Administrator profile’s
resources is a perfect example of this.
Once you have created a default user profile through this method and the profile has been cleaned of profile specific elements, that default user profile can be copied and moved to other locations
for use as a default user profile. For example, it can be used as a network default user profile, or a mandatory profile.

  • I have created a new profile and copied firefox files from my old computer into it. How do I switch to the new profile, do I just delete the old one?

I am running windows 7 I had to recover my files from an external hard drive when my old computer crashed. I have created a new profiles as outlined in the firefox website and copied all the files into it. I just need to know how to use this new profile when I open firefox, do I just delete the old profile? Or do I have to reinstall firefox.

If you no longer need or intent to use that older profile then you can use the Profile Manager to remove that profile and delete the files.

  • Creatkion of customized profiles and roles

    Dear Experts,
Im new to SAP and SDN.
My requirement is that i need to create a new profile for technical people
as z_tech_role giving access to transactions as SE38,S71,smartforms etc.
Similarly a functional one needs to be developed as z_func_role access to Se16,
    solar01,solar02 ,va01,ad other VA transactions.
The same for a workflow profile.
Can you please provide me with steps how i need to create this profile and how to attach roles in it to the profile.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
There is one forum for SAP Security, you've to post this message in that forum to get quick and exact reply..
Anyways, please follow the help.sap link above povided already.
    Somebasic concepts:
    1. Tcodes are assigned to Roles.
    2. When Roles are generated, they create profiles.
    3. Roles are assigned to Users. (profiles are not directly assigned, except few like sap_all, sap_new etc)
So what you can do, create a role z_tech_role in PFCG and add transaction SE38,S71.. etc.then maintain authorizations, generate the role. and then go to user tab, add the users whom you want to be assigned with the new role z_tech_role. (role assignement can also be done in SU01, roles tab)
    Thanks,
    Debasis.

  • Script to Copy preference file to all users profiles and to the default template

I have build a package using Apple PackageMaker, this will install an application and a preference (plist) file to the current logged in user. Now I wanted to build a postflight script, which can copy a plist (ex com.test.plist) form an current logged in user to other user account on a machine also to the default user template (/System/Library/user template/...../Library/preferences) so any new user account created will have same preference file copied.

Hi Mark...here is another script which work well if I have to copy my preference file from an account named as "admin" or some other account. However, it not certain that all Mac machine will have a account named as "admin". This is why I am looking for a way to copy the preference file from /private/var location to all user accounts on a mac.
    #!/bin/sh
    localUsers=$( dscl . list /Users UniqueID | awk '$2 >= 501 {print $1}' | grep -v admin )
    for userName in "$localUsers"; do
         cp /Users/admin/Library/Preferences/org.mypreference.plist /Users/$userName/Library/Preferences/
         chown $userName /Users/$userName/Library/Preferences/org.mypreference.plist
    done
I tried to update it as suggest in some other forum like this, still no luck
    #!/bin/sh
    UserAccounts=`dscl . list /Users UniqueID | awk '$2 > 500 { print $1 }'`
    for userName in "$UserAccounts"; do
         cp /private/var/org.mypreference.plist /Users/$userName/Library/Preferences/
         chown $userName /Users/$userName/Library/Preferences/org.mypreference.plist
    done
When I run the above script it comes up with the following error:
    cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file target_file
    cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file ... target_directory
chown: admin: No such file or directory
chown: admin/Library/Preferences/org.mypreference.plist: No such file or directory

  • Canon 5d2 DNG +custom profiles = bad preview in Bridge?

I'm using DNG Profile Editor (1.0.0.39 Beta 2) to make custom profiles for my new Canon 5D Mark II, and then using DNG Converter (5.2) plus Photoshop CS3 Bridge to process images. All on Windows XP.
After my 5D2 custom profiles were in place I noticed that the image preview in Bridge CS3 was "bad." The Bridge preview is very blurry and does not update when changes are made to the DNG file via ACR. For example, if I change exposure in ACR and click "Done" or "Open in Photoshop, the change is saved OK in the DNG file but the Bridge preview remains the original blurry image.
Took a long time to figure this out because I did not immediately associate the problem with the creation of custom profiles. Older 5D2 DNG files previewed OK in Bridge, as did DNG files from my other cameras. I even re-converted some old camera raw files to DNG and they previewed OK in Bridge. There are custom profiles in place for those older cameras.
I spent a lot of time on the usual suspects - purging cache, reseting preferences. All to no avail. Then I removed all my custom profiles and deleted the index.dat file. Ran DNG converter again to make new DNG files from the 5D2 raw. Now the Bridge preview was OK. Then I restored my custom profiles and converted raw to DNG again, getting bad Bridge previews again. Yet the previous converted files would still preview OK in Bridge.
My conclusion: The DNG converter is using camera profiles during the conversion, and in the case of 5D Mark II raw files is creating an error. I'm guessing it is putting an embedded jpeg in the DNG file that somehow confuses Bridge.
I've repeated the tests many times now. I've changed the DNG Converter "jpeg preview" preference to none, medium and full. For the 5D2 files I get bad Bridge previews on all settings. But I get good Bridge previews on my Canon 20D and Canon 1Ds DNG files regardless of any settings. Regardless of the presence or absence of custom profiles, regardless of the jpeg preview size, regardless of the ACR default settings.
So I'm hoping the Adobe team can take a look at this. Or anyone willing to confirm or deny my tests. I don't have an easy way to post a DNG file, but could email one of my "bad" ones to anyone willing to take a look.

The lack of response to this post forced me to keep testing. Now I've more closely pinpointed the problem and found an easy work around. First some background.
ACR camera profiles are stored in two places. The Adobe supplied profiles are in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles
and your custom profiles are in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles
Adobe Camera Raw, and it turns out the DNG Converter, both build an Index.dat file in this last folder. Apparently this index is built by scanning both camera profile directory trees and building a list of all the profiles it finds. It then sorts that list alphabetically by the profile name that is embedded in the file, not the Windows file name.
The "Adobe Standard" profile for a camera has a file name like "Canon EOS 5D Mark II Adobe Standard.dcp", but embedded in that file is the profile name of just "Adobe Standard". That's why only "Adobe Standard" shows up in the drop down list of profiles in ACR. And that's why "Adobe Standard" appears before "Camera Faithful", which appears before "Camera Landscape". It's alphabetical order.
Now, when you create a custom profile with the DNG Profile Editor, the "Export" function puts "Canon EOS 5D Mark II" on the front of the name. If you are an idiot, like me, you type over all that with something simple like "5D2 Bouce Flash" for the profile name. But wait, "5D2 Bounce Flash" sorts alphabetically before "Adobe Standard" and appears first in the ACR drop down menu. Sounds OK so far.
But then the magic occurs. The DNG converter uses the camera profiles. It actually accesses that Index.dat file, and if it does not exist, the DNG converter will rebuild it, just like ACR. Why it does that I can't imagine. Seems to me that the DNG converter should be simply converting raw to DNG and passing the EXIF and embedded camera jpeg along as is. What need does it have for camera profiles?
Anyhow, if that 5D2 profile is first in the list due to its alpahbetical name, the resulting DNG file will confuse Bridge. Bridge will display a fuzzy preview and will never update that preview, or the thumbnail, when you make adjustments in ACR.
But if you name the 5D2 custom profile such that it sorts alphabetically after "Adobe Standard", then all is OK. The DNG files can be previewed and thumbed OK by Bridge. So I named my custom profile "My 5D2 Bounce Flash", a simple workaround.
Now I can move on to more important things. Like generating a good custom profile for the 5D2. So far the Adobe Standard profile beats anything I've generated. Especailly if I remove that curious Point Curve which can sometimes muck up the shadows.
And now that Bridge previews are "OK" I can work on the mystery of why Bridge Previews of 5D2 DNG files do not match the previews of their equivalent TIF or PSD files. If you're curious you can see samples and read more about that here: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=30748423

  • Removing a custom profile

    Hi there,
I want to remove a custom profile and create another. The questions are..
    1. How do I change all content from the profile I want to remove to the brand new one? just use archive?
    2. Would that content automatically take the form of the new profile? any implications? what about the mandatory metadata of the new profile that wasn't there in the old one?
    3. after the profile trigger of the content has been changed. Would it be just a matter of remove profile in configuration manager with its rules and that's it?
    4. Any other consideration or suggestion?
    Thanks

If I understand your issue correctly you would assign your new profile the profile trigger of your old profile. Is this your situation:
You have a profile, "Profile1" that uses the xProfile_Trigger field and has a trigger value of "1". All the content that uses "Profile1" has xProfile_Trigger = 1.
You want to delete that profile and create a new profile, "Profile2", but you want all the content that currently has xProfile_Trigger = 1 to use Profile2.
So, deleting Profile1, and setting Profile2 to use a trigger value of "1" would cause all the old content to now use Profile2. You would then set xProfile_Trigger to be a hidden field on that profile with a default value of "1", so that all subsequent checkins would also use Profile2.
If you need to deal with metadata fields/values that were required in profile 1 and not in profile 2 you have some options.
easy: keep them but hide them (works for metadata fields and keeps indexes up to date)
moderate: change/scrub them - use archiver or a web based batch loader or a mass metadata update component (fishbowl has them)
Similarly if profile 2 has fields/values that are required then you must either set those values (again archive/mmu style component/or web based batch loader from fishbowl) or live with the fact that your display and index will not have the requisite values untill the next rev.
Does that make sense with what you're trying to do?

  • New windows XP profile and itunes

I have user profile that is corrupted so I created a new user profile and copy "itunes Music" folder from old profile to new profile (my documents\username\itunes) and tried to start itunes. Now all my setting are gone, for example RATING, SOUND QAULITY, Play LIST and etc...
So the question is how to I bring back all my Itunes settings.
I also noticed that my itunes is now shared and I have other people playlist. I did not know that you can share your play list with other users. CAn you shared over the Internet?
    thanks in advance

Steve - the music might be on the E drive but iTunes in the other profiles don't know it is there. The obvious fix is for each user to drag that new music into their iTunes library. You might also go to the Windows iTunes section of this site and ask how others share their music across profiles. There might be a solution that allows each profile to access the same library. My knowledge about iTunes and Windows is more limited than with the Mac.

  • One again about color profiles and lightroom

I have wide gamut monitor (nec pa271w) and I tried to calibrate it. After calibration it created new color profile and make it default in windows color managment. But now all pictures in Lightroom are not so colourful as they were before. If I choose srgb(default profile for windows) the colors become as they were before calibration but in this case I see srgb color space and not full color that my monitor can produce. I read articles about calibration but didn't find how to solve the problem with lightroom.

    You wrote
    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}But now all pictures in Lightroom are not so colourful as they were before.
This is probably the effect of your now calibrated monitor vs. the uncalibrated one.
Often uncalibrated monitors show highly over-saturated colors. It looks very rich and flashy and people are wowed.
But these over-saturated colors cannot be printed and do not reflect the true state of the image data.
When your monitor is calibrated properly it will display the colors as they should be.
When you chose sRGB all the colors - particularly the reds and greens - will appear more saturated. That is the effect of this color space that is much smaller than Adobe RGB or Pro Photo RGB.
LR will automatically find and select your calibrated color profile if it is saved in the right place / folder.
And you can't change that. There is no provision for a different color space in LR.
    WW
PS: As Pete and other posters have said already: Set the white point of your monitor to 6500 - that is the accepted standard. Don't choose sRGB to make your photos look good. Rather work with a calibrated monitor and then edit your photos in LR to your liking. You seem to think that your photos are a given and you have to adjust your monitor to make them look good - that's not how it's done.

  • ISE 1.3 Why are Windows endpoints defaulting to 802.1x machine authentication in wireless profile and not User or User&Computer

We are running ISE 1.3 tied to AD with WLC 7.6.130.0.  Our ISE has a GoDaddy (none wildcard) certificate loaded for https and EAP.  We are just running PEAP.  We have a mix of IOS, Android, and Windows 7/8 devices.  IOS and Android devices can self create a wireless profile and after entering credentials can connect without issue.  Our Windows 7/8 devices, when auto creating a wireless profile are selecting 802.1x machine authentication instead of User authentication or the best option which is machine or user authentication.  This is problematic as we do allow for machine authentication but have an authorization rule limiting machine auth to domain controller and ISE connectivity only.  This is to allow domain Windows 7/8 devices to have domain connectivity prior to user sign-in but force user auth to get true network connectivity.  The problem is why are the Windows devices not auto setting to user authentication (as I think they did when we ran ISE1.2), or the best option which is to allow both types of authentication?  I have limited authentication protocols to just EAP CHAP and moved the machine auth profile to the bottom of the list.  Neither have helped.  I also notice that the Windows 7/8 endpoints have to say allow connectivity several times even though we are using a global and should be trusted certificate authority (probably a separate issue).
Thank you for any help or ideas,

When connecting a windows device to the ISE enabled SSID when there is not a saved wireless profile on that machine, it will connect and auto create the profile.  In that profile, 802.1x computer authentication option is chosen by windows.  That has to be changed to computer or user for the machine to function correctly on the network.
On 1.2, this behavior was different.  The Windows device would auto select user authentication by default.  At other customer sites, windows devices auto select user authentication.  This of course needs  to be changed to user or computer in order to support machine auth, but at least the default behavior of user authentication would allow machines to get on the network and functional easily to begin with.

  • Default custom profiles

    Hi all,
Is there a way to default a custom profile instead of the Standard UCM form when there's a new check-in in projects, folders, etc..? without of course a custom component?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes thanks for the suggestion, it's nice to know I can do that and I'll keep it in mind for future reference (it really is useful to know that) but it doesn't really solve the problem of defaulting a custom profile for the whole system.
I thought maybe by using the redirection option but there's so many places the check-in service is called that im not too sure this would be a good solution.
I guess I'll be leaving standard alone.
