Customizing requiredRights ...is this possible?

We are on version 7.0 and have added many custon actions to the "user actions" drop down list (i.e. change users public directory settings, view users authentication questions, change users preferred attributes, etc, etc) and we wish that only certain links show for specific admins based on the users admin group.
The actions in the list refer to a field called 'requiredRight'...Where can I configure the list of required rights? Or is there one? When I create a custom capability I see where the requiredRights are assigned, but when I try to add a custom right in the field, the system wont take the changes.
I've searched the documentation and can not find anything on "requiredRights" Can anyone tell me how these work and if they are configurable?

Dashboard - defaulting to a custom Dashboard - is this possible?

Hi Everyone,
I have created a custom sales dashboard and I would like to set it as the first dashboard that our Sales Reps see when they click on the tab. Is this possible? because I can't seem to find any info on this.
I started playing around with Custom Web tabs, and I can add the URL from the Sales Dashboard - but I get a picture in a picture problem where there are two sets of the action bar and tabs at the top
Has anyone had similar challenges? How have you gotten around this?

We're actually looking for the same feature, but no luck yet.
Prior to the custom dashboards in R15, we used Custom Web Tabs. We still keep the "top 3 dashboards" as Custom Web Tabs as they are more convenient to run. With the Custom Web Tab dashboards, we've linked each up to a Narrative report. Narrative reports use HTML code to combine several different reports into one report.
I've never tried to link the URL from a custom dashboard to a web tab, maybe you can give Narrative reports a try.

Hi, I'm trying to determine if it's posible to write a script that will retrieve an html page, return some user credentials (login) to the server, and upon successful authentication, download a small text file. The service will be declared active if these three steps are successful
I have seen that it's not recommended to use disk I/O operations in scripts, which is something I will take into consideration, but is the scripting language capapble of performing these three functions within one script?

With NTLM this is not possible.
Because the server sends some kind of challenge that is different each time.
The response of the client will depend on the challenge and again it will also be different.
So, you first would need to know the NTLM protocol which is Microsoft proprietary so it's hard to find info, and implementing this in a script will be even harder.
So, the answer is no way.

Custom sort order is not a typical option in the list view of any desktop computing systems I know of. The way you're seeing it work is also how it works in Windows and other systems.
There is no "None" sort order. What you're seeing is a "None" option under "Arrange By." Arranging is not the same as sorting; arranging is how the files are grouped in the window. For example, you can arrange (group) files by Kind while sorting by Name. You'll notice that if you are in List view and you choose Arrange By "None," in the window there is still a sort triangle next to the column name that it's sorting by.
If Arrange is set to None, the files appear in one big group (the traditional view) that is controlled by the Sort order (where there is no None option).
I didn't even know the difference between Sort and Arrange until I saw your question and did a little research! This Macworld article helped:

As for your main question, how to do a custom sort order in the Finder, you can only rearrange files manually in Icon view. As with other operating systems, if you want to create a custom sort order for photos there are other ways:
Use a photo organizer application like iPhoto or Lightroom. Some let you have custom sort orders in folders, but others only let you have a custom sort inside a different container like an "album" or "collection". Having those additional container types is part of why photos are often best managed in an organizer application and not on the desktop.
Rename the files. You can use a renaming utility program to rename the photos with numbers that will enforce your sort order when sorted by name on the desktop, like

Sorry for a bit messy discussion title. Please, let me explain.
I have some experience in implementing video processing algorithms, but as our own software and never under AE. Now there is an idea to implement something for AE and first of all, I'm curious, if this is possible at all.
1) When processing the n-th frame, I need the full access to the data of (n-k)-th and (n+k)-th. Is this possible to do in general case? Or the only variant is to implement frames buffering during the first pass?
2) Our algorithm uses the mask as one of the inputs. But in contrary to the usual case, mask does not define an area of interest. In any case the full frame is processed, but the processing differs for different regions, depending on mask. In our software, it works like this: user defines a mask (and some parameters). Then effect is slightly modifying (let say – refining) the mask during the render and renders final images. After this user can modify the mask somehow again if he/she is not satisfied with what algorithm has done. Can I produce the same workflow in AE? The only way is using a drawbot (this means CS 5.5 and higher)? And what if I want masks to be raster images?
The second question in the framework of this one is how to do two video inputs for an effect (first – the video to be processed and second – the mask (grayscale sequence in general case))?
The possible workflow is that user provides trivial mask – lets say, the black solid. But even during the first pass effect should produce the mask, according to its sight to the video – so, it should somehow substitute the black solid with the sequence on black'n'white images. Is this all possible in AE?
3) Is this possible (should be, I guess) to implement multipass algorithms? How the preview works then, if I need, for example, to pass all the video length 3-4 times, to produce the final render?
I can expect that all this is solvable in AE, but may be experienced users could be so kind to give me some basic recommendation on how to do this. Looking through the PDF, which accompanies the SDK has not allowed to come to a distinct answer for the question: is this possible or not. So, I rely on your consultation.

in short, yes, what you want to do is possible, but some parts may be tricky.
and now the long version:

you can access the pixel data of any layer at times other than the currently processed time. this concept of getting that data is referred to as "layer checkout" in the AE SDK, and "wide time" is the name of getting pixel data at times other than the current.

masks in AE generate a matte by default. the user can turn that mask off, so that the shape remains, but the mask does not... mask. (you can also set the mask mode to "none" via API commands).
you can then read the "off" mask attributes and either render using an API command (see "pathmaster" sample to see how), or write your own algorithm if the API constraints on that operation are a problem for you. (and there are a few constraints on rendering masks in the API)
now. when you say "modifying the mask" do you mean you modify it's generated matte, or do you mean change it's defining vector?
both are possible, but completely different.
if you turned the mask off, and rendered it's alpha yourself, then you can modify that alpha as you wish.
if you want to use AE's generated matte of the mask and change the mask's outline shape, then you need to look into "streams" and the "mask outline suite".
the user can modify a mask's shape as he/she pleases, unless you lock that mask or otherwise sabotage the user's operation.
The only way is using a drawbot (this means CS 5.5 and higher)?
drawbot is the API for drawing over AE's interface in CS5 and up.
it's only a drawing tool. previous versions used OS drawing tools. that's all the difference.
what i think you're asking is weather you need to create the mask drawing/handling capabilities or not.
the answer is: you can, but you don't have to.
unless you need control over the mask drawing that AE's existing masks don't have, i would have used AE's masks and not create a brand new mechanism (that the user need to learn as well).
if you insist at creating a custom UI for drawing masks, the "CCU" sample project would be a good place to start the research.
(just don't come crying to me when you get a splitting head ache)

by default, "effect" plugins (as opposed to AEGPs) get only one input - the image of the layer, post masks and previous effects (but before transformations).
you can put as many "layer param"s in your effect and let the user select any number of other layers, which you can the "checkout" and use as second inputs.
you can also checkout other layers without the user selecting them manually.
however, checked out layer results are pre-masks and effects. so if the user draws a mask over a black solid, you will not be able to read the "post mask" image unless the user pre-composes the layer with the mask inside the pre-comp. it's a common practice for users to do so, as many effects rely on a second input, and that's the only way to make the input pos-masks and effects. (so it's no biggie from the user's point of view)
in the same manner, you can read any layer's image and use it as a mask.
you get the image buffer, so it's up to you to decide whether to use the alpha channel of that image or the rgb (or any other method you see fit).
3) Is this possible (should be, I guess) to implement multipass algorithms? How the preview works then, if I need, for example, to pass all the video length 3-4 times, to produce the final render?
AE doesn't do multi pass rendering.
it actually can render arbitrary frames, in no particular order.
but as you already saw, you can access the image data from any time - of any time, so you can emulate passes.
if you need to fly through the whole sequence for every frame, that would of course be very time consuming and wasteful.
in such a case, you can try to do these passes only once, when effect is implemented, and cache the results.
look up "sequence data", to see how to manage memory specific to a single instance fo you effect.
but i must say that if you have to do full length scans of the footage, a couple of times over, and cache EVERYTHING, then you're in a bit of a problem in AE.
it's just not set up for such rendering logic.
not impossible, but highly inefficient in the AE rendering pipeline.
there is a lot more to al of the above, but i hope this gave you a clearer picture of how things are in AE.

Captivate is not really designed to do what you want in this instance. It's more targeted at allowing a user to complete an assessment and then track whether or not they passed. So it's only really set up to send information in a format that the LMS will understand and interpret as Pass/Faill and what the score was.
You really need something more flexible than that. So I think you would need to get a programmer involved and have the solution custom made. In my experience, any time you try to diverge Captivate from what it was designed to do, and you need to get other IT professionals involved, you can kiss thousands of dollars goodbye before you have a workable solution.

HELP! JSP as items in a region - is this possible?

Can someone please tell me how to bring in a JSP code as an item or portlet within a region. Is this possible with Oracle9iAS release 2? I need to generate dynamic html within a particular region based on a query string parameter and I thought this is one way of doing it.

There are many articles on Portal Center that discuss building portlets from JSPs. You can also post questions on this topic to the PDK forum.
For PL/SQL, there are a number of options. You can build PL/SQL portlets - the dynamic page component is a good start, that is conceptually similar to JSPs.
You can also create PL/SQL items that can be rendered in-place or displayed as a link - make sure that you don't use the "Simple PL/SQL" item type, as you can't control the rendering behaviour. Use the supplied "PL/SQL" item type, or create your own custom item type based on "Simple PL/SQL".
Finally, any item type (except the "simple" ones) can be associated with a procedure that can generate dynamic content. The procedures can be PL/SQL or any function that can be invoked via a URL (e.g. a JSP or servlet).
Note that in your PL/SQL procedures you'll need to use the HTP package to generate HTML.

Feature Request: I want Firefox 4 to remember search history, but not form data, without having to use a third-party plug-in. Is this possible now and I am just not seeing it?

I don't like having Firefox (or any browser for that matter) remembering any form history, as I do not see this as secure data storage (IT security/network engineer). Currently the only way to disable this is to also disable search history, which is a useful tool to have, and I am not worried about the security of that data (I don't search for sensitive data). I would like to see these two options under the Privacy->Custom Settings Preference to be separated so that people can more finely control what of their data is stored.
Is this possible without the use of third-party plugins?

I have need programming in Oracle 9.x and using Forms and Reports for about 1.5 years. My ERP application calls a report from a form. I DO NOT have source code for the FORM. But, I DO have source code for the Report. So, from the Report 6i, I would like to call an Oracle Form 6i. Note: Not WEB based. My question is, IS THIS POSSIBLE. I can not find a command like Run Product in Report for calling a Form Application. Can someone please help me. I am under the gun to have this ready in a couple of days. Can I call an Active X Application from Reports..if Oracle Forms DOES NOT WORK. This needs to be a Form Application because of the nature of this request.

...the ERP vendor based on a form icon button will call a report. They will pass a TAG_NUMBER from a database record (that they just inserted) to the report. This tag_number will link to other tables and will display the report. The problem is ??..there is additional information that the user needs to scan into the database BEFORE the report runs. This is part of the business work flow.
I have options.
1) Get the ERP Vendor to call a FORM based on the name I provide to them.(Not really an option since they are unwilling to make custom mod changes.)
2) Have the user key into the REPORTS PARM FORM. And I will update the tables...
3) Call an Active OCX popup FORM from Reports and then update tables. Is this possible from Reports???..I am not sure if I like to introduce ms vb into an oracle application. It just does not seem to be a correct solution/procedure.
4) Pay the ERP Vendor as a custom mod to make the changes for us. (unlikely because they do not like making custom mod changes)
5) ....any more ideas/comments please let me know..

Oracle forms is this possible?!?

I am a java developer and i am not familiar with oracle forms 10g.
Recently i had a project about digital signing of web forms(on java). So the idea was: We have applet that runs in the client browser, it uses the JSObject to collect all input fields and it's values from CUSTOM web form and create xml document, that must be signed. This applet is like a lib.
I must do the same thing with a oracle form.
Is this possible: collect the oracle form's items on the client??? The form is custom i.e. unspecified items and count items.
If this is possible the next step is to verify the signed xml on the server. So how does oracle forms work. Is there a server side. What is the architecture? Could the xml be passed to the server and how the oracle form's items must be accessed on the server(i need them to verify the xml).
I will be glad if you could help me soon.

Here is simple scenario of usage:
Oracle developer creates a oracle form. In some way i have to deliver for example jar. He adds it to to his project and in some way specifies that that jar signes his form.
The form is in module so i guess i have access to it.
What i learned for now is that there are VBeans that could help to do this(item collection). I found that this beans are graphical components too i.e. we can place awt Componets in them, but may be i don't need to use them. I read that the VBean is on the middle trier, but when i wirte JOptionPane.showMessage(..) it is displayed on the client i can't understand why. I need to collect the items in the form not in the bean.
The question is can i collect in some way the form's items on the client. Oracle form runs in some applet could this help me? Totally confused. The documentation for oracle forms is very unclear for me.
I forgot to say that there are some classes in the oracle forms lib like "RadioButtonItem", TextFieldItem and so on. Are theze coresponding to form items? May do some connection between them?!?

There are two parts to this:
1) It may be that you should have an Apple Education Support person helping you with this. If you have enough computers for this to be a problem, you may benefit from a Server, a site license, and an occasional visit from an Education Support Specialist.

Sorting elements by category - is this possible in Muse?

I have a page that may eventually have 100+ groups of 3 separate elements, which all are connected with a musical artist. I would like the user to be able to sort through the list based on categories I create.

Is this possible in Muse? If so, how? What widgets do I need? I'm willing to invest some money if that's what it takes, but any solution will have to be something I can edit in Muse myself.

You can try to use toolitp where insert the categories in trigger and the items in container , so when user will click or hover over trigger it would show up the category clicked.
The exact behavior that you have mentioned cannot be achieved without using custom code implementation, but with Muse widget you can achieve a similar effect.

I don't know about the custom JSP tag part, there is a <jbo:CreateViewObject> tag and ApplicationModule.createViewObject() methods for defining ViewObjects at runtime. We were not able to locate a mechanism for actually running a query against one VO to select rows for a second VO (whether defined at compile-time or runtime). We created a VO at runtime so we could base it's result set on another VO.
See "Ways to Add a View Object Instance to the Data Model at Runtime" topic in JDev help (we're using 10.1.2, but there's a <jbo:CreateViewObject> tag going back to at least 9.0.3.3); I located using JDev's Help's text search for createviewobject.
In our case, because the two queries were related (subset), we obtained the where clause from the VO that we defined at compile-time and whose where clause is being set at run time by values passed in from an HTML query form. We then applied that where clause to the dynamically created VO to get the desired subset.
Hope that gives you a starting place and helps.
