Customizing Terminal.app hot-keys?

Hey all,
Does anyone know a way to re-assign hotkeys within Terminal.app?
Since Leopard's Terminal supports tabs, I use Command-Shift-\[ and Command-Shift-\] hotkeys extensively to switch between tabs, and almost never use Command-Left and Command-Right hot-keys (which switches between Terminal windows).
I've been taking measures against RSI/TCS, and have noticed that the Command-Arrow combination is much easier on my hands.
Cheers!
Galen

  • How to emulate INSert  key (in Terminal.app)

iBook keyboard have no INSert key. I am using it very often on PC because I like working in Terminal and using Midnight Commander (insert key is used there to selecting files).
How to emulate this key in Terminal.app (like you can emulate other keys for example page down/up and so on with fnshitfarrows), or maybe you now how to define custom emulation rule of some key shortcut to get this key.
    I don't need INS key outside Terminal.app.

    Just found answer here: http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20080122065954390
In Terminal.app's Preferences, go to Settings and select Keyboard. Find the Key you want to replace -- in my case, F12 -- and change the default Action value to:
    \033[2~

  • Adding Custom Hot Keys, not Keyboard Shortcuts

So, I've gone online and done some research but I can't seem to find anything on creating custom, universal hot keys. Everything seems to be about keyboard shortcuts, which are great within the applications, but I'm looking to create Hot Keys that launch applications or folders.
For example, in Quicksilver (which is no longer working for some reason) I had a trigger to open my Applications folder set at "controlshiftA" one for my documents folder at "controlshiftD" and one to launch Safari at "controlshiftZ" but I can't seem to set this up without some sort of app launcher.
I also don't want to use an app launcher because the additional engine it uses just clogs up my resources and increases my start-up time by about a minute....

You can't. You need an application launcher for those tasks.

as I said there is no way around that. either you use an application launcher or you won't have that functionality. 1 minute extra startup time sounds way too much. I use Butler, not quicksilver but I know for sure it only adds a few seconds and consumes very few resources when it runs. I suspect it's the same way with Quicksilver.

    Thanks

Wow, that' s awesome, I encountered the same problem with ya today when trying implement Pickers in Tabbar, and can't figure out why, the debugger just throw back such vague message and guess what ? I spent like 3 hours banging my head against the wall wonder why it's not working, I using XCode 2.2.1, my debugger wont work ( program won't stop at break points for what ever I tried ), and not very friendly with those newbie like me - really don't know where are all the Apple's software developer 1337 ? As I remembered, all the good ones goes for the hardware, "the rest" goes for the software =)), but thanks again, thanks, and again, click the tab bar, set both the class and nib file would get rid of the errors, if it would help some one, the credit goes to the two above, say thanks to them, like me. Have a nice day guys, I 'ma happy .

  • Custom hot keys in photoshop elements 9?

Is there any way to do this?
I dont want to have to click through all the windows everytime i want to free rotate the canvas. I'm using a wacom tablet.

Yes there are a couple of ways:
    1. Windows already has a keyboard shortcut for Image>Rotate>Custom
Press the Alt key then press the I key then press the  E key then press the C key or Alt I E C
You can find the windows shortcuts to menu commands that elements doesn't have a keyboard shortcut for by pressing the Alt key and looking at the underlines
on the letters of the menu items.
    2. You could assign the above keyboard shortcut to a pen button or exprees key on your tablet.
Example below is assigning the shortcut to an express key on a wacom bamboo tablet:
Photoshop elements itself doesn't have a leyboard shortcut editor like the full version of photoshop does (photoshop cs6).

  • Customizing ANSI Colors in Terminal.app

Has anyone figured out a way to customize the ANSI colors in the Leopard Terminal? The TCColorArray plist setting seems to be ignored.
I've even gone so far as to copy the Terminal.app from Tiger onto Leopard. Still no go, even Tiger's terminal is ignoring TCColorArray when running on Leopard (which I find very strange).
Could this be a termcap issue?

You might want to ask in the Unix forum:

  • Can't open .term Terminal.app files from command line

Howdy. I use Terminal.app constantly for ssh'ing into numerous remote machines. On my G4 Powerbook I have simply created .term files with customized colors, titlebars, and an appropriate ssh execution string for each machine/userid combination, which I am able to open with "open ~/bin/foo.term". Life is no longer so joyously simple on my new Intel iMac. I create a .term file (via Cmd-s while in a terminal window), but the above command to open foo.term now simply doesn't work on my iMac once a single terminal window has been opened (even after it's been closed) -- I can start one such file only from the finder or via Launchbar or Quicksilver. The only way I can use my .term files is by switching to Terminal and selecting File...Open and clicking on the .term file -- which, being a command line (and Launchbar) junkie, I hate, of course. Applescripts don't work either.
I would be forever grateful if someone could tell me how to fix this problem!

    I cannot do it either.
Ah, interesting -- thanks for the input. I had thought the problem might have something to do with the fact that I was using an Intel iMac, but you are using a PPC iBook. The problem isn't with 10.4.6 either, as that is what I'm running on my G4 Powerbook, and the .term files work as expected on that machine.
Initially I thought it was a
problem with permissions, i.e the term file hadn't
the execute bit set (which it did not). Setting the x
bit though did not help at all.
Right, the .term files aren't executable.
    A work around was to
save the command(s) into a plain text document in
text edit (not rtf) as a .command file (no txt
extension in this case) and set its execute bit in
    terminal (sudo chmod u+x ...).
I don't quite understand the workaround -- what command(s) exactly did you put into the .command file? Could you paste the contents of such a file here?
I have not dealt with term files extensively but I
noticed that .term files are xml ones. Could anyone
shed some light in possible changes in the way
    terminal handles them?
Since the .term files work as desired on my Powerbook, it now doesn't appear that Terminal.app has changed its processing of the files. Something else is going on here.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Selecting text becomes very slow in terminal app

I use the terminal app a lot.  Since I've upgraded to Lion, after running for a few days when I try to select some text to copy and paste, it gets slower and slower and eventually takes a minute or two to copy the text.  Terminal just sits there and I can't select another terminal window.  The copied text is not in the clipboard yet because if I try to paste into another app the old contents are there.   I'm trying to figure out if there's something I do that triggers this or if it's just how long terminal's been running.  It seems to be worse with multiple line selects. I often resize windows a lot - very wide to see output lines without wrap and then back narrow for normal output.  I have a lot of saved lines per window (10,000).  I move the laptop between home and work by just putting it to sleep, and when I plug it into a different size monitor all my open terminal windows come up about 50x100 pixels and I have to resize them back to normal size (that's new with Lion).  But none of this is different from how I worked before Lion and it never got slow.  When I'm working the delay makes it almost impossible to use copy and paste.  If I reboot  it's ok again for a while.   Anyone else seen this?  I've seen posts about the terminal app being slow to open, but this is different.  Any ideas?   thanks.

    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Terminal.app and the European Unicode characters?

Does anyone have the unicode characters working properly in Terminal.app?
If I try to write in GNU nano 1.2.4 for instance "örrör" it translates into:
    (one empty line)
    örr
    ör
which isn't certainly right. This is especially awkward when editing an unicode text file where the text then easily becomes more or less garbled. Usually more.
It doesn't seem to make any difference whether or not I use the Finnish extended (unicode) keyboard layout or the conventional one in nano. If the Terminal.app window preferences are set as UTF-8, it says:
    ?rr
    ?r
    which looks even more garbled.
In plain bash the characters print like this:
    å = \345
    ä = \344
    ö = \366
so my mighty apple translates the example string "örrör" as "\366rr\366r".
    Any ideas, anyone?

    Hi solarflare,
My first (and essentially only) language is English as well. However enough folks have asked that I have experimented with multibyte characters. There are so many apps and options involved, it's difficult to get consistent results. However, I'll recount as many settings as I can recall.
To begin with, you are right about the LC settings. It helps many apps to have:
    export LCALL=enUS.UTF-8
    export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
set in your shell startup scripts. Then the system should be set to produce unicode when you type. In the "Input Menu" tab of the "International" pane of "System Preferences", you should select a unicode keyboard layout, such as U.S. Extended.
To configure the Terminal, you need to open the "Terminal Inspector" by selecting "Window Settings..." in the "Terminal" menu. To type many multibyte characters, you need the option key. To use it, you must have the "Use option key as meta key" checkbox unchecked, although I find the meta key too important in UNIX to leave that unchecked. In the dropdown menu in the "Display" pane of the "Terminal Inspector", you should set the "Character Set Encoding" to "Unicode (UTF-8)". In the "Emulation" pane of the same window, you must uncheck the "Escape non-ASCII characters" checkbox. That is important as I've read that it is checked by default and that can produce some pretty strange results.
Now it's helpful to use a very modern shell. For instance, the latest beta version of zsh-4.3 has the best unicode support of all versions of zsh. After you've chosen a good shell, you're at the mercy of the application that you're using. As I gather you've noticed, vim has excellent unicode support and picks up on the LC settings. I have no idea about nano but it is meant to be a minimal text editor.
I know that my settings allow me to type extended characters and the "Character Palette" lets me insert more. As far as other command line utilities go, the best you can do is to choose well and keep your apps as up-to-date as possible. Fink or Darwin Ports can often help in that regard.

  • Terminal.app has disappeared

I had Terminal in my Dock, and I removed it because it would not open. I went to open it under Applications -> Utilities, but could not find Terminal.app (Spotlight did not find it either).
I used my OS X install CD and Pacifist to grab Terminal.app, but when I click on Terminal I get "You can't open the application 'Terminal' because it is not supported on this architecture".
I downloaded the 10.5.8 build of Combo Update after I ran Pacifist, but this did not fix it.
I then ran Disk Utility to do a Permissions fix, but still nothing.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Ugh!  Please restore old Terminal.app focus-follows-mouse behavior!

The 10.4 and prior Terminal.app's focus-follows-mouse feature allowed one to type into the terminal by mousing over it even if the Terminal wasn't the currently focussed application. It didn't focus Terminal when you did this, but did direct keyboard input to it.
10.5's Terminal.app only allows focus follows mouse to work when it's the focussed application, which destroys about 80% of this feature's usability for me. I like to keep things like finder and browser windows overlapping most of a terminal window and then just slide the mouse over to the terminal to type there, and I can no longer do that in 10.5. Now I have to click on the Terminal window, bringing all my terminal windows forward and obscuring the windows I wanted on top. Very annoying.
Is there any way to restore the old behaviour? If not, can we please have it back?
Luckily, 10.4's Terminal.app still behaves properly in 10.5, so I'm using it, but I'd like to have some of the new features of 10.5's Terminal.app. Unfortunately, "broken" focus-follows-mouse is a deal-breaker for me.

    The command I know,
defaults write com.apple.Terminal FocusFollowsMouse -string Yes
seems to work about the same in Leopard as in Tiger for me. I don't remember ever being able to get focus-follows-mouse behaviour to work in a non-active application from an active non-focus-follows-mouse application. In other words one can focus follows mouse from one Terminal to another, but not from Finder to Terminal.
The X11 equivalent (why the inconsistent key and value?) is
defaults write com.apple.X11 wm_ffm -bool true
I remember being able to focus-follows-mouse between Terminal and X11, but cannot in Leopard. However, I also cannot in Tiger 10.4.11 either, so maybe it is my memory that is faulty.
What I don't seem to be able to do, but could do in Tiger, is
defaults write com.apple.X11 swapaltmeta -int 1
On Tiger, that would make the option key the meta key, so that e.g. alt-d would delete forward one word, etc. On Leopard, this seems to be a NOP which means that cmd is the only possible meta key, which I personally find rather confusing.

  • Using Terminal.app with X11

    Dear Apple Discussions,
I am trying to get X11 and Terminal.app to work together. I read on the forums here that it is possible by going here.
I followed the instructions to the best of my abilities, yet when I try and open up Emacs in Terminal.app (yes, I downloaded fink and installed the windowed version) I don't get a new window (yes, X11 is running).
When open up a Terminal window I get the message:
DISPLAY has been set to .0
which seems to me to be incorrect.
    Any ideas?
On a side note, is there a way of changing the META key from being ESC to ALT as it is supposed to be?
Thanks and sorry if there was a similar post to this, but I couldn't come up with a good query.

    Hi AppleMonkey,
I'm a little confused by this discussion of the ALT key as Apple keyboards don't have an ALT key. Thus, I assume that you have a keyboard designed for one of those other types of computers. Anyway, X11 does use the ALT key terminology so we do have to discuss it regardless of what type of keyboard you have.
Long ago someone posted instructions for this that added both Alt_L and Alt_R to Mod1, like so:
    clear Mod1
    keycode 66 = Alt_L
    keycode 69 = Alt_R
    add Mod1 = Alt_L
    add Mod1 = Alt_R
Of course the main problem is to fix your ~/.xinitrc. The reason that your X11 quits is because X11 replaces it's init process with the execution of the ~/.xinitrc. When that script quits, the process ends, as you observed. The way to keep it running is to replace the script process with a new process that is then in control of XWindows. Traditionally, this process is the window or desktop manager and process substitution is accomplished with the "exec" command. By default the last command in Apple's /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc is:
    exec quartz-wm
which passes control of the XWindows process to Apple's Quartz window manager. That default xinitrc also contains commands that process the ~/.Xmodmap file and it is invoked automatically if you have no ~/.xinitrc. Thus, if you're using Apple's X11, it should be sufficient to delete your ~/.xinitrc. Alternatively, you could copy that default file to your home directory with:
    cp /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc ~/.xinitrc
If you're using some other version of X11, you should still use the above command to copy in the default xinitrc and then customize it to suit your needs. However, make sure that the "exec" command is the last one in the script and that every other command returns immediately.

  • What is the use of hot key...

what is the use of hotkey in elementary search helps...how to use this in elementary search helps...can anybody send any navigations on these ..

    Creating Elementary Search Helps
    Procedure
In the initial screen of the ABAP Dictionary, select object class Search help, enter the name of the search help and choose Create.
A dialog box appears in which you must select the type of search help.
Select Elementary search help and choose .
The maintenance screen for elementary search helps appears.
Enter an explanatory text in the field Short text.
You can for example find the search help at a later time using this short text.
In the Definition tab page enter the selection method of the search help.
You can enter the name of a table or a view (database view, projection view or help view) here. If you enter a table that has a text table, the name of the text table is automatically entered in the corresponding field.
Using the input help (F4 help), select fields of the selection method as parameter in the Search help parameter area. Select the fields that should be used in the dialog box for value selection or in the hit list.
If the selection method is a table that has a text table, both the fields of the table and the fields of the text table are offered in the input help.
The data element of the parameter is automatically copied from the selection method. The data element defines the output attributes and the F1 help of the parameter in the hit list and in the dialog box for value selection.
You can assign the parameter another data element. To do so, select the Mod flag. The Data element field is now ready for input. Then select a data element with the input help (F4 help). Only data elements whose data type, length and number of decimal places is the same as those of the previous data element can be assigned.
This removes the link between the data element of the search help parameter and the data element of the selection method field having the same name. If you cancel the Mod flag, the data element of the assigned table field is used again.
Define the attributes of the search help parameters.
Select the IMP flag if it is an import parameter. Select the EXP flag if it is an export parameter.
You can define the dialog for the input help with the fields LPos, SPos and SDis. Enter the parameter position in the hit list in LPos. If you enter nothing or the value 0 here, the parameter is not displayed in the hit list.
Enter the parameter position in the dialog box for value selection in SPos. If you enter nothing or the value 0 here, the parameter is not displayed in the dialog box for value selection.
Set the SDis flag if the parameter should be a pure display field in the dialog box for value selection. The user is thus informed that the contents of the parameter restrict the value, but he cannot change this restriction. This makes sense for example when the parameter is an import parameter or if it has a default value.
You can assign the parameter a default value in the Default value field.
Select the dialog type of the search help.
The dialog type defines how the hit list is displayed in the input help.
    Save your entries.
A dialog box appears in which you have to assign the search help a development class.
    Choose .
Do not forget to link the search help to a screen field. The search help attachment is not part of the search help definition; it is part of the object definition to which the search help is attached.
    Result
The search help is activated. You can find information about the activation flow in the activation log, which you can display with Utilities ® Activation log. If errors occurred during activation, the activation log is automatically displayed.
    Other Options
Assign a hot key: If the search help is to be accessed with a hot key, you must enter a one-place ID in the Hot key field. All the elementary search helps contained in a collective search help should have different short cuts.
Assign a search help exit: In exceptions, you might have to change the standard flow defined by the search help with a search help exit. In this case enter the name of the search help exit in the corresponding field.
Test the search help: You can test the flow of an input help defined by the elementary search help with . A dialog box appears in which you can simulate the behavior of the search help under different conditions. You can obtain information about the options provided in this window with .
    See also:
    Example for Search Helps
Each customer of a carrier (see Flight Model) or of a travel agency has a customer number. You want to find a search option for this customer number.
The user must be offered two different search paths.
The user should be able to search for the customer number using the customer data, such as the name and address.
The user should be able to search for the customer number using existing customer bookings.
You can provide the required search option by creating a collective search help SCUSTOM. Two elementary search helps SCUSTOM_NAME (for searching with the customer data) and SCUSTOM_BOOK (for searching with the existing bookings) are created for the actual search paths. These elementary search helps are included in the collective search help.
    Elementary Search Help SCUSTOM_NAME
This elementary search help should enable you to search for the customer number using the name and address (street, city, country). All this data is contained in table SCUSTOM. Table SCUSTOM must therefore be selected as the selection method of the elementary search help.
You now have to decide which fields of the selection method are needed for the input help process. These are the fields that should appear either in the dialog box for restricting values or in the hit list.
In the dialog box for restricting values, the user should be able to restrict values with the customer’s name and address, i.e. the fields for the street, city and country. These fields as well as the customer’s number (the information to be found must always be in the hit list) should appear in the hit list. The fields ID, NAME, STREET, CITY and COUNTRY of table SCUSTOM must be included in the search help as parameters.
The parameter ID is declared to be an import parameter. A pattern entered in the corresponding field of a screen template can therefore be used directly for the value selection. Restrictions for the other parameters of the search help must be entered in the dialog box for value selection.
All the parameters of the search help are declared to be export parameters. As a result, all the parameters of the hit list can be returned to the screen template if the corresponding fields are available there.
    Elementary Search Help SCUSTOM_BOOK
This elementary search help should enable you to search for the customer number using existing customer bookings. The flight data for the booking (flight number, date of flight, city of departure, city of arrival) and the name of the customer should be used for the search here. This data is distributed on the tables SBOOK (bookings), SCUSTOM (name) and SPFLI (cities of departure and arrival). The following graphic shows the relationship between the relevant tables, that is the existing foreign key relationships.
In this case a database view SCUS_BOOK must be created on these three tables (see Example for Views) as selection method. The tables in the view (join) are linked as defined by the existing foreign key relationships (see Foreign Key Relationship and Join Condition).
In the dialog box for restricting values, the user should be able to restrict the search for booking data with the carrier ID, customer name, city of departure and city of arrival The flight date and of course the customer number should also be displayed in the hit list. Fields CARRID, FLDATE, CUSTOMID, NAME, CITYFROM and CITYTO of view SCUS_BOOK must be included in the elementary search help as parameters of the search help.
The parameter CUSTOMID is declared to be an import parameter. All the parameters of the search help are export parameters.
    Collective Search Help SCUSTOM
The two elementary search helps are now included in the collective search help. You must now allocate the parameters of the elementary search helps to the parameters of the collective search help.
The parameter ID of the collective search help is marked as an import parameter. All the parameters are export parameters. The values can thus be copied from the hit list to the screen template.
    Attaching the Search Help
In order to be able to use the search help SCUSTOM in screen templates, the attachment of the search help (see Attaching Search Helps with Screen Fields) must be defined.
Attaching to the Check Table SCUSTOM
The search help should be available for all the fields that are checked against table SCUSTOM. The search help therefore must be attached to table SCUSTOM. The search help parameters must therefore be assigned to the key fields of table SCUSTOM.
The parameter ID of search help SCUSTOM is here assigned to the field ID of table SCUSTOM in this field assignment. No assignment is possible for all other parameters of the search help (NAME, CITY and COUNTRY) since table SCUSTOM does not contain this information as key fields.
Attaching to a Field of Table SCUSTOM
In order that the search help is available when the field SCUSTOM-ID is directly copied to the input template, you have to attach the search help to this field.
With this type of attachment, all the parameters of the search help can be assigned to the corresponding fields of the table.
Structure of an Elementary Search Help
An elementary search help defines the standard flow of an input help. You can define the following components of this flow in the search help:
where does the data displayed in the hit list come from (selection method)
what information should be displayed in the dialog box for value selection and in the hit list (search help parameters)
what field contents can be taken into account for hit list selections and which values in the hit list can be returned to the screen fields (search help parameters)
what dialog steps should be executed in the input help (dialog behavior)
    Selection Method
The possible input values displayed for a field in the hit list are determined at runtime by database selection.
If all the data required in the hit list comes from one single table, you only have to select this table (or a projection view on this table) as selection method. If there is a text table for the table, its fields are also available in the input help. A table entry is linked with the corresponding text by the existing foreign key.
If the data needed in the hit list comes from more than one table, you must link these tables with a view (database view or help view). This view must be defined as the selection method.
If the underlying tables are client-specific, the client field must be contained in the view. Otherwise selection for the input help would be for all clients.
    Search Help Parameters
A search help has an interface consisting of parameters. These parameters define the fields of the selection method that should be used in the input help.
A parameter of the search help must correspond to each field in the dialog box for value selection and to each field of the hit list. The parameters are copied from the corresponding selection method, that is they always have the same name as the corresponding field of the selection method.
If the search is restricted with a parameter of the search help, this is used in the data selection for formulating a WHERE condition for the field of the selection method with the same name. Vice versa, the parameters of the search help are assigned the contents of the fields of the selection method having the same name.
The search help should not contain any parameters for the clients. In the input help, selection is automatically in the logon client of the user.
A data element must be assigned to each search help parameter, that is a type is always defined for the search help parameters.
A search help can contain further parameters that do not correspond to any field of the selection method. This is normally only necessary if the standard flow of the input help described by the search help still has to be modified by with a search help exit.
    Import and Export Parameters
When an input help is called, the entries that the user already made in the input template are taken into consideration. For example, if a user calls the input help for the flight number and already specified the carrier, of course only the numbers of flights of this carrier should be offered.
On the other hand, if the user selects one row of the hit list, more than one field of the input template might have to be filled with data from the selected row of the hit list. For example, if the flight number is obtained from the hit list, the city of departure and the destination should also be returned in the screen template.
The interface of a search help defines the context data that can be used in the input help and the data that can be returned in the input template.
A parameter of a search help can be classified as:
Import parameters: Parameters with which context information from the processed input template (screen) may be copied to the help process.
Export parameters: Parameters with which values from the hit list may be returned to the input template.
A parameter can simultaneously be an input and an export parameter. A search help can also contain parameters that are neither import nor export parameters. Such parameters could be required for the internal input help process, for example.
When you attach a search help, you must define where the import parameters of the search help get their values from and the fields in which the contents of the export parameters are returned. See also Value Transport for Input Helps.
    Description of the Online Behavior
The online behavior defines the steps executed in the input help process and the structure of the hit list and dialog box for value selection.
The dialog type defines whether or not the dialog box for value selection should be displayed. If you want to skip the dialog box for value selection, the hit list is displayed directly after calling the input help.
When you define an elementary search help, you can define how the dialog box for value selection and the hit list should look. For example, you can define the position of a parameter in the dialog box for value selection here. The column position in which the values of a parameter are displayed in the hit list can also be defined here
    Please reward points..

  • Problem with Terminal.app - unable to input '^' (Shift + 6)

    Hello everyone,
I'm experiencing a strange problem with Terminal since this morning: I'm not able to input symbol '^' (Shift + 6) in any terminal application. Both Terminal.app and iTerm.app show the same problem. I'm able to input '^' in all other applications, as you can see, without any problem. Is it something related to key bindings? Anybody with similar problems?
    Thanks,
    Luca

What terminal emulation are you using? Which shell? I suggest you look into whatever terminal emulation you are using. Try googling for the type of terminal emulation you are using to see if that sheds any light on this issue.
