Customizing Touchpad Buttons [Solved]

I want to change the behaviour of the touchpad buttons without screwing with tapping.
Googling didn't help and I'm no expert on GNU software and this could be useful for everyone searches.
I'm on Openbox + Tint2 enviroment if that matters.
Editing WM's rc or directly xorg is..?
Also a step by step explanation would be nice, if not neccessary.
Cheers!
NotaBene: I thouth it was related to laptops but can ...

I tampered synaptics conf, there you can only play with the taps but that actually helped me to find out that synaptics configuration is unrelated to mouse buttons.
Guess I'm gonna search for a change edit to good-old mouse conf, tell me if not.
Thanks.

  • [SOLVED] Slow/sluggish touchpad buttons response (sometimes)

    Hi all,
I have had this problem for some months now but have never looked into it, even if it is pretty annoying.
Sometimes (say one boot every three) the touchpad buttons of my laptop (see sig) behave strangely. Their response time is very long, I have to keep them pressed for ~half a second to make them trigger correctly.
This is very annoying when editing texts (selection a section of text with the touchpad) and using any click intensive application (ie editing a presentation with Prezi).
I use KDE and the only touchpad configuration I've ever done has been done via synaptiks.
I cannot tell after what update this started, it was too long ago unfortunately.
Since this happens only sometimes I don't even know where to start looking!
EDIT: I stress the fact that this happens with buttons, not with tapping

    Just FYI,
this one solved itself some months ago after some kind of update.

  • Suddenly, my custom url buttons disappeared from the navigation bar and I can no longer add new ones. FF22

I am using Firefox 22 (I like its features and do not want the features added in later version.) I have added a handful of custom URL buttons to the navigation bar that allow me to go instantly to websites I visit frequently. There was/is a function in Firefox for adding such buttons. This morning, after leaving my computer on all night, I found that the custom buttons had disappeared and I could no longer find the function for adding new ones. Can you tell me what has happened and how I can add custom URL buttons? I will appreciate your help. Thank you.

I solved my own problem. This function was added by Google Shortcuts, which somehow became disabled. After fussing ariound for a few minutes. I was able to restore it.

  • EliteBook 8350p TouchPad Button issue.

The middle touchpad button on my EliteBook 8530p is not showing up under Mouse in Control Panel so I can't configure it to open links in a new tab when pressed. Any thoughts on how to fix this?

    Hey shifty137,
Try re-installing the touchpad driver: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3782359&...
Then, in the Mouse control panel, go to the Synaptics tab and see if you can configure the buttons there.

Hi, i bought Hp notebook 15-n051sm(F4C10EA) few days ago, from first moment noticed when you need to use touchpad buttons that they require quite good force for pressing them.
It isnt issue if you use short period of time but for longer usability it's annoying experience.
Had few Hp notebook before and never had some strange experience with touchpad buttons.
Is this normal way to use touchpad buttons of this Notebook models or it's hardware issue which would be better to send product back to seller?

  • Javascript for custom Exit button on Saba LMS with SCORM 2004 v3 requirements.

What should I add to the javascript panel on a custom exit button in Captivate to properly exit a course uploaded to a Saba LMS with SCORM 2004 requirements?

I can confirm that the approach recommended by georgeyp worked for me with Captivate 5.5 and Saba. After publishing in Captivate, I opened the SCORM zip package and edited the imsmanifest to remove the masteryscore line. It seems that the LMS has nothing to compare to the 0 score value passed by Captivate and so it does not move the incomplete course to the Transcript and mark it ‘Unsuccessful’.
I did not have an issue with the course getting stuck on the first screen and just showing the LMS initialization text.
Note that I also tried the additional code (suggested but not guaranteed by Saba) and it did not solve the problem. I also tried using the 'SendTrackingDataAtEnd' SCORM template available in Captivate under Preferences > Quiz > Reporting. It did not solve the problem either.

    Hi,
According to a service manual, the touchpad is a part of the top cover. You have to replace whole top cover..

  • Touchpad button mode on Linux

Hello. How to enable the touchpad "button mode" on a Linux OS? (Ubuntu 13.04, specifically)
I'm talking about the possibility to tap on the "switch button" on the touchpad and then the volume control bar or the other six icons over it ([here's an [image|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9702NL0000R0105182.png] of the related configuration in Windows OS).
Even the chance of simply configuring custom tap zones would be useful. Is there a way to defining them?
Note: it should work on a Toshiba Satellite A200 too.
Thank you, have a good time.

  • DV5-1000 touchpad buttons, premature wear

After about a year of using my DV5-1000, the silver coated left touchpad button began to wear through to the black plastic underneath.  Also, the button became noticeably loose, especially when compared to the right touchpad button.  It eventually got to the point where the button would click unreliably.
I managed to buy a replacement palmrest part for the DV5, which contains the touchpad assembly (you cannot buy the assembly separately).  Unfortunately, the palmrest is an integral part of the laptop, requiring 75% of it to be disassembled to remove the original part.  I downloaded a service manual and went to work... and I got it done after 2 long hours.  The new part fit properly and the laptop appeared as new.
A year later, I'm faced with the same problem yet again!  I am not abusive to the touchpad buttons.  This kind of wear should not be happening.  I dread having to take apart the laptop again... but I am worried that the button will start developing click problems as the previous one did.  I wonder if some kind of protective coating added to the button would help it.  Anybody else here suffer premature wear to the left touchpad button?
"If you keep an open mind, life will give you more possibilities."

I had a look at some of the newer DV5 models and... I'm rather taken aback with how HP solved the touchpad button problem.  They no longer have tactile keys.  Instead, there's a soft touch membrane.  This makes it very difficult to control sustained pressing of the button, as the travel from on to off is so short.  It was a real cop-out in my mind, that HP didn't stick with tactile buttons.  Sure, there were some problems with how they were intially implemented, but c'mon--so many other laptop makers have tactile buttons that don't wear out.  Why couldn't HP have gone that route of just improving the button?
Also, what's with all of the wacky patterns that HP is now slathering over their laptop casings?  It makes the laptop look a lot less professional.  If they want to appeal to kids, make it so that there's an optional shell you can get with the laptop with whatever zany pattern you wish.  Or instead, just opt for something conservative and wear resistant.

How comfortable are you working inside PCs/laptops?
Have a look at pages 63-66 of your Hardware Maintenance Manual.
Simply reseating the keyboard doesn't look too bad, but take care with the connectors. They are different than many other T-series, but I don't think you'll need to disconnect just to reseat the keyboard.
    Hope this helps.

  • Noisy touchpad buttons

I've recently just got a ENVY dv6-7307tx less than a week ago. The thing is, the touchpad buttons are irritatingly noisy, especially the left click button. ): It requires extra force to push down and it makes this annoyingly loud sound. Is this how the buttons are supposed to sound like on this model? My previous model, Pavilion tx2000, is so much quieter.
Can this be a faulty hardware or is it just like that? And can something be done to correct this problem?

    Hello Kayley_charissa,
Normally the touchpad doesn’t have a noise that it physically makes.  Because it is less than a week old you have a couple choices, you can contact HP support  to talk about a possible service repair, or you can contact the location that you purchased the computer from. They would normally have some options for you.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

  • Touchpad buttons noisy

    Hello all
I just bought a Lenovo N500. I find that the touchpad buttons are rather hard and noisy. We have 4 other laptops in the family (HP, Dell, Acer) and no one is so noisy. On my HP 8510w for example, there is absolutely no noise.
Is there a way to reduce the noise when I click with the touchpad button ?
    Thanks for a hint

  • Y40-80 touchpad button

Just bought this laptop  almsot 2 month ago with many problems.  1st: slow boot up (took about 1minute)  try update windows and restart got BSOD : DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE. Tried reformat as per cust service advise still slow boot up and BSOD.  After googling it appears to be Intel graphic card driver issue. So problem solved after downloading the updates from lenovo website. Now boot up time is around 20-30 seconds.  2nd: mouse button not functioning. I thought maybe y40-80 dont have touchpad button so fine! I change the touchpad setting at WIndows registry 2 tap as right click (tried change at touchpad setting itself doesnt work). After change setting same BSOD again. This time i installed the touchpad driver from lenovo website as well.  i just tried out friend's y40-80. the trackpad button both left and right click is actually functionable. It has the button feels when I click it where as mine cant feel its button. Although it also had slow boot up time at the beginning but after done windows update everything is fine. also around 20-30 seconds.  Anyone knows whats the problem with my touchpad?

    Hi LenovoY40,
    Thanks for the reply.
As you have mentioned that there is no water spillage or any dust accumulated.
Are you able to move the mouse cursor through touchpad if no then it might be issue with the touchpad, please visit the nearest service center for further details.
