Cut-and-close-gap video distortion?  Prem elem 9

Hi, I have Adobe Photoshop Premiere Elements 9.
I am creating some tutorial videos on math and other topics.  I want the tutorials to be succinct, which requires me to edit out a lot of blank space.
Things look fine when I first load the file, but after cutting the video and audio up and delete-and-close-gap'ing a lot of it, the video at the end is very visually distorted.  I can't even tell what's going on and it looks horrible.
Any suggestions or tips/forwards to threads that answer this question?
sorry if this is a repost, i'm very pressed for time

You might want to take a look at this article on editing Camtasia footage: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/453044?tstart=0
There are some useful comments by Jeff Bellune, who uses Camtasia for his tutorials. Now, many of his comments were done with Premiere Pro CS3 & CS4 in mind, but much will translate to PrE, as well - just not all of it.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 10 - Is there an alternative to 'delete and close gap?'

There are two scenes on the same track (not sure if they're called scenes, just not sure what else to call them), I want to put them right next to each other on the timeline, with no gap in between. If I use delete and close gap, everything in front of these two scenes will move as well. I don't want everything else to move, I only want to move the lone scene next to another scene. If I just try to drag it next to it, it'll either slice the scene in half if I don't drag it 100% perfectly next to it, or there will be a single frame of black space on the video. The only way I can successfully do this is if I zoom in and pain stakingly drag them precisely next to each other. Is there some way I can use something like 'delete and close gap' without making all the other tracks move as well? I think it might've been like ripple delete back in the older versions of Premiere if I remember correctly.

Whenever you are adding clips to the Timeline, try holding down the Alt key of the computer main keyboard to avoid disturbing the existing Timeline content including splitting of audio.
Have you tried right clicking the Timeline file for deletion and selecting "Delete" instead of "Delete and Close Gap" and then use the Alt modifier as you drag the clip(s) around with the mouse cursor?
Please give all that a look and let us know the outcome? But that Alt Key maneuver should work for you as it has for many others.
    Thanks.

  • Premiere Elements 11 - Delete and Close Gap has stopped working?

Editing my music video. At 2:35:22 I can Delete and Close Gap OK but at the previous clip at 2:34:15 clicking on Delete and Close Gap will delete the video but won't close the gap! Any suggestions? It's Adobe Premiere Elements 11 and running Windows 8. Everything has been OK until now.

Thanks for the follow up. Glad that you completed your project successfully.
The Delete and Close Gap issue relates to what is above or below the place where you want to delete and
close gap. And, also as presented in the blog that I cited previously.
When you are forced to do the manual delete and close gap, the dangers reside in disturbing the existing
Timeline in doing so. For that we need to discuss the use of what are called keyboard modifiers as part of the move.
The following link may help in that regard. I present it for informational and not promotional purposes

  • Delete and close gap doesn't

When I delete a clip the gap does not close.  I held the shift ctrl key down one time and now the ripple effect seems to be off.

It's audio clips.  My audio is separate from the video so that solves that problem. I managed to do a reasonable facsimilie of the Mary Tyler Moore credits for our parody video. It's not perfect, but it does the job.   Michael

Michael, The most common reason that gaps do not close, is that there is either an Audio Clip that "covers" the gap, or perhaps Video that does. Is either the case in your instance? Good luck, Hunt

  • Delete and close gap problem

I have 2 project s  on 1 [delete and close gap] no work why?    on  premiere element 12

    djvalente
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? Have you updated 12 to the 12.1 Update using an opened project's Help Menu/Update? If not, please do so.
    For your immediate issue...
Whether or not the command Delete and Close Gap works is typically dependent on the content above and below the
spot where you want to delete and close gap. Manual closing of the gap (with care) with the mouse cursor may be your way.
Please review the following details on how the Delete and Close Gap command can fail.

  • "Delete and close gap" stopped working

Another first: In one project, but not in others, "Delete and close gap" will only work if I delete complete clips. If I try to trim a clip, either in the Timeline, or in the Sceneline by trimming in-points or out-points in the mini-timeline under the Monitor screen, a gap created by trimming a scene does not close up.
Stranger still -- Trying another approach to trimming a particular clip, I split it, then tried to delete one of the two new clips using "Delete and close gap. It deleted the new clip but did not close the gap. The action created a black clip image in the Sceneline where the deleted clip had bin, and this new black clip image could not be deleted.
In the Timeline, it is possible to drag the following scenes over to close the newly-created gap, but it's time-consuming. It's a drag, so to speak.
I'm almost done editing the project in question and can complete it without solving this problem, but if I suffered a similar loss of the ability to trim clips in a longer project without creating gaps in the clip sequence, or if "Delete and close gap" failed to work on split clips, I would very much want to know why, and how to restore the lost ability.
    Has anyone experienced anything similar?
    John B

Thanks, Robert -- You nailed it on your first guess. In this project, for the first time ever, I dragged an audio track to the Narration track. I know it's intended for narration that's recorded directly into PE, but I thought I'd see if I could use it as an extra track.
Also in this project, I've split the audio on the Soundtrack so it's non-continuous, with gaps in it, because I only need it in certain places. From your 2nd message, it's possible this could also be a/the cause of the problem.
I'll keep a close eye on my use of these tracks. In other projects, I have imported audio into the Soundtrack track without causing this problem, but those were continuous music tracks with no gaps.
    Another lesson learned.
    Thanks!

  • Delete clip and close gap

In Premiere Elements 11: -when I will delete a picture from the timeline in single picture show, the “delete and close gap” from edit menu or delete tab -only delete the picture, BUT DOES NOT CLOSE THE GAP!!!!
    What’s wrong?

    P.Konrad
The first screenshot that you posted showed the "orange" over the transitions suggesting that you had not rendered the Timeline transitions to get the best possible preview after you applied the transitions. In that state, I had no problems with Delete and Delete and Close Gap in my tests here.
In the second screenshot that you posted showed the complete Timeline content rendered...no "orange", just "green" which implies that you are now seeing the best possible preview. Again, in this state, I had no problems with Delete and Close Gap in my tests here.
From what you just wrote, it sounds like you had problems with Delete and Delete and Close Gap in the first case (with transitions unrendered), but did not when the whole Timeline content was rendered. Is that correct? If so, I cannot confirm that difference.
The first and second screenshots do not appear to show the same clips and are probably located at a different portion of the Timeline. In that case, I am still guessing that you have content above that portion of the Timeline where you are having the problem.
Right now it sounds like you have everything working. That is important. But, I would ask you to look into what I have just written to detemine if any of it applies to your specific situation.
Many thanks for the follow ups.
I have misintepreted any of your details and results, please do not hesitate to let me know.
    Thank you.

  • "Delete and Close Gap" on Premier 13 will "delete" a photo but will not "close the gap".  How do I correct this?

The area just goes dark in the finished product for the time that was there before and the gap remains.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on?
Many of these Delete and Close Gap failures can be traced to content that is directly above or below the area of interest.
Depending on the circumstances, you may be forced to select the clip or clips in a group and do a manual close gap
    with the mouse.cursor.
Please review the following as one instance of Delete and Close Gap Failure.

  • Easy cut and erase and close gap tool

    Hi
In Quantel, which I am more familiar with, the '[' and ']' keys perform an edit where they cut the clip at that point where the play head is (like the razor blade tool), but also erase the unwanted portion of the clip and close the gap, '[' to the left of the play head and ']' to the right of it. I don't know what the tool is called but it's super useful. Does final cut have this tool??
    Thanks
    LM

The only thing that might be of any use could be the Add Edit (ctrl-v).

  • Blue and white G3 video distortion

just wondering if anyone has ever seen this before...
someone gave me a blue and white G3 and it turned it on.. started up no problem...
i shut down the computer, opened it up, added ram, and started it up again... when it gets the the "starting mac os x" screen the video looks like it's been through a paper shredder. i figured it was bad ram or something so i put it back to the way it was just to see if it still had the same problem. i continued to get this kind of video distortion until i reset the PRAM.
so basically, it doesn't matter whether i start up from the hard drive, a mac os x cd, or a mac os 9.1 cd... same distorted video if the computer has not been started up while resetting PRAM. every time you restart it, you have to do it or you get the weird video.... anyone familiar with this? it's really strange.

it's weird.. because this is the stock ATI 128 rage card that comes with a G3 and i'm using it with the 15 inch studio display flat panel (the really early one, that is the same colors as the G3). i'm not using any adapters to connect the display. no matter what i set the resolution to, it always does this when i restart. only when i reset the PRAM will it actually look normal. even if i boot a CD without resetting the PRAM i get the same video distortion... is there some weird issue with this display and this video card? doesn't seem like there would be since this display was released during the time that this G3 was the top of the line apple desktop...

  • Good afternoon I'm having problems on my iPad all ves that to using an app for watching video and closes amid video how can I solve this

I downloaded an app to watch anime, plus the app this closing in the middle of the film I wonder what could be
The app is naruto the anime video

Have you tried closing the app completely and seeing it works when you re-open it ? From the home screen (i.e. not with anime app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the anime app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Cutting and saving individual video and audio files from a clip

I have to cut 201 individual video and audio files for separate scenes from an 11-minute animated episode and save them as separate MP4 video and MP3 audio files. What is the most efficient way to do this?

Without knowing more about your project, it's hard to even guess at the most efficient workflow.
Like: Do these clips have audio or are you adding it? What format are these clips? What is the intended delivery for the 11 minute movie?
As a general matter, one creates an event, imports clips to it. Then organizes the clips according to the needs of job, using keyword collections and ratings. Then creates a project and starts a rough cut by marking ranges in the event browser and editing to the time line. Some people start with the music, making that the primary storyline mark where they want the edit to be and cut to that.
Upon finishing, one can choose one or more of the "destination" presets. It's possible to export Audio only or Video only or both. MP3 is one of the audio choices. Some of the presets are MP4. If you want possibly better quality and more control, export the files as master files and encode in Compressor.
    Good luck.

  • What application in Creative Cloud do I use to quickly cut and upload a video?

I shot video of my son pretty often, and then I want to quickly cut it and upload it to the internet to show relatives. What  do I use for that? In neither Bridge or Lightroom there are any tools like that. I have heard of Premiere but I don't know how to use it, it looks complex. Is there another application that does it?

    Hi agoico,
Using Adobe Premiere Elements 11, you will be able to upload videos directly on Youtube ( If that's preffered for sharing), Its quick and easy.

  • Cutting and piecing together video files

    Hi,
I'm currently working on a project where it will be necessary to take small segments of video from several different video files, and piece them all together to make a single video file. This splicing will generally be done in terms of times based on sensory information. Video format isn't particularly an issue.
My question is, as a fairly experienced (and predominantly) Java programmer, is the Java Media Framework the best solution for me? It has been suggested that something like C# coupled with DirectShow might be a better alternative, but I'm not fully equipped on how I would "plug" DirectShow into C# etc . Can anyone offer any advice or suggest other alternatives?
    Thanks,
    dodge

    Any advice? Please? :~

  • Does not delete & close gap in Premiere elements 10

Hi I have made a video in Premiere elements 10 and now I want to remove or trim some clips in the middle of the video but it leaves a gap. If I select the gap and right click "Delete and close gap" nothing happens. How can I trim it without leaving a gap?
    Thanks!

With the Audio Clip, how would you like PrE to handle that?
Would you like for the program to Cut the Audio too, and Delete that portion, or do you wish for the Audio Clip to not be affected?
If the latter, then I would Delete the Audio Clip from the Timeline, edit the Video, then drag that Audio Clip back to the Timeline.
As I do not do "music videos," I only do edits to the Audio portion of my Timeline, until after the Video has been edited.
Now, if you wish to keep the Audio Clip, as it is, then try this. You can Delete but NOT close gap, as that will not work. Just Delete that part of the Video. Then, Select (drag the cursor around the remaining Video Clips, past the gap, and with Snap ON, just move all of the Video Clips to the left. Do NOT "bang" the Video Clips against the preceding Video Clips, or "shearing" can happen, and you do not want that.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
