Cut and paste clips in imovie

I have read all the how tos - but I am still unable to do what I need.
I have a 17 minute movie.  I need to move a 7 second scene from point a - in the movie - to point b.
How do I do this?
A solution would be most helpful.
Thanks.
Andrea

Hi
You have the original in iMovie Event's ? OK
You start a new movie Project
Select the Clip (in Event's) and drag the sides to be as the needed 7 seconds.
Drag the clip with the needed 7 seconds from Event's window down to the Project just created
Export / Share as where You want it.

  • Cut and pasting clips to a new movie causes 15x file size increase!!

I'm using 6.04 iMovie. I'm converting 8mm analog video via Canopus 300 into imovie. These movies were of an action sport and very few clips are over ten minutes when imported.
I have 4 files(sourced from 4 tapes) from 22-28GB in imovie. I have edited these files, removing bad video, unwanted scenes and have added transitions and titles. The resulting files are each from 22-28Gb's in size.
I then went to make a highlight video by copying and pasting clips from two of the movies. The resulting highlight movie exceeds 160Gb's I have two more movies to past clips from!
I am aware of the "non-destructive" editing feature of Imovie. In the process of editing the individual movies and putting together the highlight movie I emptied trash frequently.
    My questions:
1.) What is the best procedure to cut and paste clips from movies to make a highlight movie?
2.) What can i do with my highlight video to get the size back down to around 15 Gb's? (I've only used about 25% of each of the two first tapes in the highlight video)
    Thanks

    Hello, Scott,
iMovie moves clips to the trash that you have deleted.....if you are not using any part of that clip. If you are using any part of it, the parts you crop out, 'delete,' will be removed from your movie, but not put into trash and not removed from iMovie's project file. If you use 10 seconds of a 30 second clip, for example, but later decide that you really need to have more than the 10 seconds, say you need 15 seconds, all you have to do is go click on that 10 second clip in your movie and then go to 'Advanced' and select 'Revert clip to original' and iMovie will put back the entire clip for you to re-crop.
It is not exactly the same for still photos. If you are using still photos with the Ken Burns effect, emptying the trash will remove the photo's 'clip' and you will not be able to redo the KB effect if you decide to change it. Leaving the trash alone will permit iMovie to retrieve the photo so that you can make those edits. Some of us never empty the trash in iMovie.
When you export as Full quality Quick Time, you are getting just that.....Full Quality, no changes from the original. Your movie is not being compressed, it is shortened because you are saving only the clips that are actually used in the movie, not all the rest. Nothing is lost in quality and you can edit as usual, except for the ability to retrieve any clips that are not in the movie. You will not be able to use the 'Revert clip to original,' now because you have a new set of 'originals.'
So, when you export to quicktime, be sure that you are completely finished with the cropping of your clips and that you will not need to add anything that you previously deleted. I export to quicktime and then open a new iMovie and import the new qt movie into that. Once you see that it plays properly, you can delete the first iMovie and just work with this one. However, it will come in as one large clip, with audio and video incorporated into one track. You will not be able to re-edit titles and effects. (Well, you CAN do it a bit, but it is tricky and you will lose some footage).
I actually make a quicktime version of almost all of my iMovies. I find that this process eliminates any jerkiness or stuttering of my longer movies. I edit the original iMovie by cropping clips, adding photos, putting in titles and transitions. I then add audio last, usually first some short audio clips to go with some of the photos, and then I add background music last. I usually export to quicktime during the adding music part, whenever iMovie starts playing back in a stuttering way. The new quicktime movie is smooth and I can finish my music additions easily.
Apparently, the latest version of quicktime is much better for the jerkiness problem, but I have been hesitant to upgrade since I am in the midst of doing about 4 iMovies.
    Good luck with your project!

  • Copy and Paste Clips within iMovie

Using iMovie 11.  I have football games that I edit and bookmark.  I also save clips from each game for a season highlight video.  I can copy the clips from a game project and paste to the highlight project.  I am unable to paste clips to the highlight event.  I want to delete each game from the project library as I finish it, but don't want to delete the source video for the highlight project.  Thanks!

Jeff, when you copied and pasted your edits then those clips retained all previously applied settings, filters etc, including those distortions automatically applied by FCP that made your anamorphic clips display properly in the older non-anamorphic sequence .. what you need to do is to remove those distortions:
Select all the clips in the new timeline (Cmd-A) then invoke the Remove Attributes dialog (Cmd-Opt-V) and put a tick in the Distort checkbox, then click OK.
That should do it ... although if you did any intentional distortions then those will have to be redone as they will be removed along with the automatic anamorphic distortion.
    Cheers

I am in the process of preparing to test a sample from your brand and model camera in my Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 on Windows 7 64 bit. I will have the results probably tomorrow morning.
For now I just want to put you through the drill that I do for anyone who says he/she is using Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1.
    1. Are you working from the 8.0/8.0.1 Update of the program?
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4653
    2. Do you have the automatic Background Rendering and AutoAnalyzer features turned OFF.
For Background Rendering option. See Edit Menu/Preferences/General.
For AutoAnalyzer option. Click on Organizer in the row below the blue active Organize header in order to open the Elements Organizer. In the Elements Organizer workspace, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoAnalyzer Options and disable all the AutoAnalzyer options. To return to the Premiere Elements workspace from the Elements Organizer workspace, in the Elements Organizer workspace, go to File Menu/Exit.
Is your computer optimized in spite of the fact that  you have a high end laptop? I presumed so but always go to verify, no pile ups of preview files, conformed video and audio files et al.
Looking at the properties of your source media, I see:
    video compression = MPEG1
    audio compression = MPEG-Layer1 (.mp2)
    Frame Size = 640 x 480 (4:3)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio = 1.0
Frame Rate = 30 progressive frames per second
With properties like those you are sure to get a red line over that content since there is no project preset with that description.
But, your choice of the default NTSC DV Standard would have been mine also.
I am heading to try to get a quick look at the behavior of the sample video here in my Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1.
    To be continued.

  • CS4 cutting and pasting from illustrator expands appearance

I'm working within CS4 taking a few simple vectors and pasting into ID, Everything seems to work except a few images which the strokes are converted to fills.
The illustrator file has multiple artboards but other items cut and paste perfectly.
Is there anyway to fix this? I've tried throwing a clipping mask around it, grouping, ungrouping, dragging... And I can't get it to work.
    Here's the file if it'll help: https://www.yousendit.com/download/Y1RwcHBFNXZCMTVMWEE9PQ

Do you know where the complex vs. simple starts and ends?
At the point that ID doesn't support the constuct natively.
I know that answer is less than useless. If you can figure it out, you'll probably also have a great future at the track or as a stock picker (and I don't mean in a warehouse).

  • How to cut and paste a picture into a shape in Illustrator CS4

In illustrator CS4 I am trying to cut and paste a picture into a shape. In freehand the shortcut was so easy. I know there is one in Illustrator but cant remember what it is, can anyone tell me?

    K8,
What Steve said, with the addition that you may get rid of the outlying parts, by:
    1) With the mask selected, in the Transparency palette dropdown select anything but Normal,
    2) Object>Flatten Transparency, no need to change options,
unless you have withheld information and really want to distort the picture to fit the shape, in which case you should select both shape and picture and Object>Envelope Distort>Make with Top Object.
The procedure 1) - 2) is destructive in case of vector artwork but makes no difference with raster images, and it makes it easier to avoid accidental/unwanted selection outside the  Clipping Mask.

  • How to cut and paste subtitles (with formatting)?

In iMovie '09, once I've formatted a subtitle to look the way I want, how can I repeatedly cut and paste that subtitle so that I don't need to redo the formatting for every subsequent subtitle?
I realize this is probably trivial once you see it ... but it's not obvious to me. Couldn't find it in Help or in Apple's FindOutHow movie.

  • Text resizes when cutting and pasting

Help? When I cut and paste text from one scene or area to
another, the text changes sizes and does not look uniform to the
next. How do I eliminate that or at least figure out how to make
the text the same size (re: the original text may be 32, but the
pasted text - at 32 - is much larger.)?

The only time you should see a size difference is when you
take text out of a movie clip that has been scaled. Hit Crtl-t to
get the Transform window and see if the object is %100

  • Quality Compromised with Cut and Paste?

I have an iMovie that I already shared in media browser so I can burn to DVD. Now, I have a few extra minutes I want to add to the film.
If I cut and paste the film in iMovie's Project Library so that I can then add the extra footage...Does this compromise the quality at all?

I get double pasting when paste to IDE using mouse i.e. right click and select paste. However if I do ctrl + v then the above does not happen.

  • Cutting and pasting audio tracks?

Im working with mpeg-1 files that have been converted with mpegStreamclip, everythings working great, but i haven't figured out how to cut and paste audio tracks in the timeline. I am trying to copy and use sound extracted from the muxed mpeg. I want to add this ambient sound to run under stills. Any suggestions?

    Hi Susan
    1. Set TimeLine to audio edit = three tracks.
    2. Is there audio on track two or three ? If not. Select clip with needed sound. Advance menu/Extract sound.
    3. Now there is a sound portion under the selected clip. Click anywhere (un-select) and now select
    the audio portion.
    4. Move the Playhead (line witrh yellow triange in top) where You want Your cut in the audio clip.
    5. cmd-T [apple-key + T] = a Cut
    6. Move the portion in under a still (or make a copy first and move that-one)

  • Cut and Paste into JTextPane of Applet

I am just a JTextPane in an Applet. I want to allow the user to cut and paste text from word into my applet but it seems like it will not transfer. When I transfer the applet to a application it works or if I run the applet in an applet viewer , it works also. When I run the applet over the net into IE, I cannot cut and paste???
There seems to be two different clip boards. One in the applet and one on the desktop. Any suggestions out there??? Help!

Bingo! It is applet security at work. You can not access the system clipboard from an applet. You must sign the applet and then accept the signature when you run the applet or change your policy file (doing the second has many security risks and is not recommended).
If the applet is signed you will not have to add a key listener, just focus on the text field and type ctrl+v and it will paste for you.

  • Multi track cut and paste  ??

Does anyone know if there is a way to extend a section of a clip or song on all tracks simultaneously?  For example I have a song that has 8 tracks. The bed was recording first and the vocals were written to fit into the structure.  Now that this is close to complete I would like to lengthen 4 bars) the choruses.  Do I have to try to cut and paste in each track individually in the editing mode or is there a way to lengthen the choruses in all tracks at the same time?

In multitrack what I would do is split all 8 tracks at the same point (assuming you are not cutting through a cymbal crash etc)  then select all the clips on the right of the split (group them if you feel safer) and move them to the right.
Then either (and it depends on the piece you are working on)
    1. 'pull out' eack of the tracks on the left by 4 bars and move the other tracks on the right back into place, xfading etc., OR
    2. cut a selection and duplicate for each track then move the duplicated sections into place and then move the clips on the right back to match up
Sounds simple because it is (I do it all the time), however, it will be a bit like micro-surgery making sure everything is lined up, in time and makes sense musically.

Hello.  In 2012 you answered a query about the following problem:
"I have had my MacBook Pro for over three years now, without much trouble, but recently I've been unable to send images that I have cut and pasted into Apple mail. I can attach an image that I have saved in my photos and it will send but I can not send an image that I have cut and pasted from the internet."
This problem started with me this morning and it does not happen when I open a test account.  The thread stops after you asked if it occurs in the test account, did you ever find a solution to this issue?  I am using mac mail 3.6 on system 10.5.8.
I hope you receive this, I have never posted in one of these forums.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

  • Can't cut and paste in a web based e-mail service. (Not G-mail)

I belong to a membership site that is coaching me on e-mail marketing. I want to cut and paste different bits of information and ad links etc. to emails that I am sending out through the site.
For some reason, Firefox will not allow me to cut and paste when I am in this particular site??
I can cut and paste in Microsoft Word and other programs with no problem. But when I'm on this particular site it's no deal.
This is very frustrating. What can I do to resolve the problem.

I've had this happen a couple of times. Seems it just gets a bit borked sometimes.
Best thing to do is close Pages (or whatever), then do an iOS reset (hold power button then home button till screen goes blank and apple logo comes up and then let go).
Cut copy paste should work again as normal.

  • How do you cut and paste tables in and out of Excel from either Mail.app or Outlook 2011?

When I try to cut and paste a table generated in Excel for Mac into the body of an email the formatting holds but when I send the table is reduced to one column. Same is true for copying from incoming mail into Excel, when I paste into Excel it is reduced to one column rather than keeping the table format. I have tried using mail.app and went out and Outlook 2011 and both programs have the same issue. The reformatting also happens when I forward an email received from a coworker that contains a table, not just on cut and paste operations.
I need to do this regularly and right now my only option is using my old PC where the cut and paste function keeps formatting between Excel and Outlook just fine. Attaching a pdf or excel file is not an option. There has to be a way to maintain the formatting and being able to extract the tables keeping them intact. Please let me know if you have a solution to maintain this formatting within email programs. Thank you in advance.

Selecting all does not help - the issue is I need a table within an incoming email to be moved to excel, edited and then pasted back into a new email. "Select All" picks up the email headers, signatures, any messages around the table etc so that doesn't work. Also, as pointed out above Excel doesn't have a select all feature to get the tables back into the body of an email.
I just tried again going from Excel into Outlook 2011. No luck. All one column down the left side of the email. All columns are removed and text crammed into one column. Just to check I cut from one Excel document and pasted into another and it retained all formating just fine. It is only in and out of Outlook that seems to be the issue.
