Cut and Paste email addresses in Mail

I have been frustrated when copying and pasting email address in Mail.
When I copy an email address that is also in my Address Book from the "FROM" field and paste it somewhere else, the NAME of the contact always appears along with the email address in "" brackets.
Is there some kind of setting I can change to ONLY get the email address and not the contact name and those dumb little brackets?

  • Why can't I cut and paste email addresses when sending documents?

Why can't I cut and paste email addresses when sending files? I have to type them in each time...And it doesn't remember them for the future, as SendNow did.
Also, it seems that the message I type in is not kept, as it was with SendNow?
    Thanks!

    Hi drlaura,
You're correct on both counts--these features work differently Adobe Send than they do in Adobe SendNow.
If you're sending files from Adobe Reader, you can access your local Address Book, which should make entering email addresses easier. Please see: I’m trying to send a file from Adobe Reader, but I can’t access my computer’s address book to find my contacts. Why not?
Please let us know how it goes.
    Best,
    Sara

  • Cut and paste emails addresses from a spreadsheet not working anymore.

Under Mount Lion and prior versions, in the Mail client I was able to copy a list of email addresses from an excel spreadsheet, paste them into either the To, CC, or BCC list and it would recognize the email addresses.  Under Maverick, I do the same thing and it all goes in as text.  I have to add a comma to the end of each email address for it to be recognized.  Since this spreadsheet is sent to me, don't want to edit 100 users everytime there is an update.  Is there a way to get this to work?  Really annoying to have to extract the list and to add a comma to the end of each email address.  Feature that went away in Maverick giving me a headache.

    See answer here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/24362299#24362299
It's a bit of a workaround, but since it lets you add the comma to all the addresses at once, it shuold help you out baout 95%.

  • Is there a way to fix the change in copy and pasting email addresses?

In the past, whenever I've copied and pasted email addresses, for example, copying the email address from one email into a form field on a Web page, Address Book, or even the search field in Mail, only the email address would get pasted in. Now, since I've upgraded to Snow Leopard, it seems, the name and email address is getting pasted in like this: "NYTimes.com" <[email protected]>.
It seems when pasted into the search field like this, even Mail has trouble finding other emails with the same address, which is often what I use it for. Is there a settings fix for this or am I just going crazy?
    Thanks,
    Bob

I found it in Mac tips
Thankfully, Apple included a hidden preference to revert to the 10.5 behavior of copying only the e-mail address. Quit Mail if it’s running, then enter this command in Terminal (in Applications -> Utilities):
defaults write com.apple.mail AddressesIncludeNameOnPasteboard -bool NO
Restart Mail, and Copy Address will once again do just what it says, which is the preferred behavior for my use of Mail. If you try this and decided you prefer the default version, quit Mail and run this command in Terminal:
    defaults delete com.apple.mail AddressesIncludeNameOnPasteboard
Thanks to the fine folks at ecamm network for digging this one out and writing about it on their blog.

  • Cut and paste from Word into Mail

I have an earlier post where I thought I had solved this problem, but now it's back with a twist:
I can cut and paste from Word, but after a few cut and pastes, it seems as if I can only paste the last successful section of text: copying new text from word seems to work, but when pasting into Mail, only the previous section of cut and pasted text appears.
I have checked the preferences within Mail, and they are set for plain text... so there should be no problem, yes?
I also tried quitting and then restarting Mail, but had the same problem...
    Any advice?

    Thanks, aqua*star -
I just checked the "archiving" and "back-up" suggestions in the Mail "Help" window and got the following info:
    Mail preferences and messages
Your Mail accounts, rules, signatures, and Smart Mailboxes preference settings can easily be backed up. Tip: All Mail-related preference files should be backed up or restored as a group.
    To back up:
Note: These steps back up Mail preferences, but do not back up Mail messages (emails), although you can do that with the .Mac Backup utility. See below if you want to manually back up Mail messages (mailboxes).
Create a uniquely-named folder on your desktop (or other favorite location). For example, you might call it "Mail Prefs Backups May152005" (adding a date is a good idea).
    Quit Mail if it's running.
In the Finder choose Home from the Go menu.
    Open the Library folder.
    Open the Preferences folder.
Copy the "com.apple.mail.plist" file to the folder you made in step 1 by Option-dragging the file. Don't remove the original file from its current location (this file contains your Mail accounts information).
    Close the Preferences folder.
    Open the Mail folder.
Copy the "MessageRules.plist" file to the folder you made in step 1 by Option-dragging the file (this file contains your Mail rules).
Copy the "SmartMailboxes.plist" file to the folder you made in step 1 by Option-dragging the file (you guessed it, this file contains Smart Mailboxes information).
Finally, copy the Signatures folder to the folder you made in step 1 by Option-dragging the folder. (Your custom signatures, if you use them, are stored here.)
To restore: Just move all of the copies of the files and folders from your uniquely-named folder to the original locations from which they came, as listed above.
It looks like I can save and restore the Mail rules separately from the plist...

  • I just my iMac. I would like to compose a letter to a document, make corrections, then cut and past it for e-mail. how do i do it?

I just bought an iMac. I would like to write a letter to a friend using word document. I then would cut and paste the letter and send it via e mail. How do i do it?

You can use Text Edit located in your Applications folder.
For assistance with that app click Help from the Text Edit menu bar.
Or, you can purchase Pages from the App Store.
You can access the App Store from your Apple menu > App Store
Or the App Store icon in the Dock
    Or your Applications folder.

  • Can't drag and drop email addresses into Mail's search field

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I am no longer able to grab an email address from "To:" and "CC:", and drag it to the seach field in Mail. The green + sign shows up like it's going to add the address, but when I release the mouse button, the search field is left blank.

... and re-typing the whole address works for my Mom. I, however, prefer increased functionality with my upgrades, not the other way around.

  • How do I copy and paste email addresses from one email to a new one?

I need to copy email addresses from one email to a new one. I can copy, but I can't paste them to the new email. Any help would be appreciated!

Highlight it and then right click, select Copy. then go to the new email you are writing and place the cursor in the TO field and right click, select Paste.

  • What happened to the edit tab that used to display at the top allowing me to copy and paste website addresses sent to me in e-mails?

There used to be a display at the top of the page that had tabs for edit and other items that are no longer there with FF4. Am I missing something? I have checked the drop-down at the upper left but can find no way to copy/cut and paste while in e-mail mode.

You can find the Edit menu and the associated icons in the drop down list if you click the orange Firefox button.

  • Copy and Paste Email

Why can't Apple mail allow you to copy and paste email addresses with a right click of the mouse? I always have to use edit menu.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately, Copy/Paste is not available on the iPhone.

  • WHY CANT I PASTE EMAIL ADDRESSES IN THE ADDRESS WINDOW

I HAVE NO PROBLEM COPYING AND PASTING EMAIL ADDRESSES IN EXPLORER, BUT WHEN I SWITCH TO FIREFOX IT WILL NOT LET ME. RECENTLY I FOUND A LINK THAT EXPLAINED HOW TO TURN THAT SECURITY BLOCK OFF, BUT CANT SEEM TO FIND IT AGAIN.

Thank you I think I figured it out. I'm working with a Sony BPAV folder among other formats. Apparently if you drop a BPAV folder directly into any main folder, FCPX import will only read the BPAV files/folder and will ignore any other files or folders in the same main folder as if they didn't exist.
To resolve it I created a new named folder to place the BPAV folder into. Once I did this the other folders reappeared in FCPX import window along with the newly created folder coantaing the BPAV folder.

  • Does webmail have no copy, cut and paste features?

The automated agent was of no use.  My old ATT webmail would let me cut and past using IE or Windows controls, but at least had their own cut and paste commands. Not being able to copy, cut and paste when composing e-mails is a MAJOR hassle.
And if anyone knows how to enable links, HTML, etc, in webmail, please let me know.

What browser are you using? CTRL + C, CTRL + X, and CTRL + V are all working fine for me, and I would assume their equivalent Edit menu commands work as well...
Also, which version of webmail are you in?

  • When I click on an email link on a website it doesn't open my entourage mail, I have to cut and paste the email address in

When I am looking at a website and it says contact us with an email address, in the past when I click on this my entourage 'new mail' page would open so I could contact them, but know that doesn't happen and I have to cut and paste the email address into entourage manually, sometime this is not possible becuase the website doesn't actually give the email address just a 'click here' option

  • I need to make a copy of an entire email, including the header w/the sender's info and time, etc. to insert into a letter, etc. How can I do this w/out cutting and paste and doing the header separately from the text.

I need to make a copy of an entire email, including the header w/the sender's info and time, etc. to insert into a letter, etc. How can I do this w/out cutting and pasting   the header separately from the text. I know there is a way besides a screen shot but I've spend hours trying to find it.

    Smurfslayer wrote:
For the particularly persnickety types you might want to expose the full headers in the email message as well.  It's easy enough to do, from mail's 'menu' select "view"; then "message"; then all headers.
Another option you could use is a screen capture using Grab.
Activate Grab, then shift + command + w (for a window screen shot).  Then confirm the window selection and click the mail message.
