Cut and paste - should be easy

Acrobat Pro 10 / Windows 8
I've used Pro 10 for a long time but always creating the complete file and cutting/pasting has always been within the document.
I was given a PDF - 87 pages of which I only need 5. I want to copy/paste those 5 pages into a new document which is not locked.
I've opened the document, selected a page, highlighted the text (more about this later), and selected copy. Then it's File>Create File>From Clipboard.
At this point I get "Strarting app . . . " and Word begins to open. (Never does. All I get is the logo.)
I then get "Please wait . . . Reading Acrobat PDF." After a while, the bar fills and then . . . it starts again. "Please wait . . . Reading Acrobat PDF." After a while, the bar fills and then . . . well, you get the idea.
How do I successfully cut and paste from an existing document to a new document?
Now a word about copying highlighted text. I'm assuming I'm copying text. I can't edit the document the way I can my own pdfs. Am I actually copying text or am I copying an image or something else? I have no idea. All I want is to copy whatever I select into a new document.

It sounds very much as if you want Acrobat to be Word, and that is the source of your problems. Yes, it is hopeless to think you can select all the text on a page, and paste it into a different flow. You might be able to select the left column as graphics, but probably not: PDFs have no information on columns. The pages palette is opened by clicking the page icon in the left margin, as an alternative to bookmarks etc.
Word gets started because you have copied styled text to the clipboard and Acrobat has no ability to create a PDF from styled text. So it has Word do the conversion. Quite clever really, I didn't think it could manage that.
But I think really you have to moderate your ambitions.

OS X is all about keyboard shortcuts.
To cut       cmd+x
To copy     cmd+c
To paste    cmd+v
With the Mouse, hold command and drag to your destination.

Why can't I cut and paste email addresses when sending files? I have to type them in each time...And it doesn't remember them for the future, as SendNow did.
Also, it seems that the message I type in is not kept, as it was with SendNow?

Hi drlaura,
You're correct on both counts--these features work differently Adobe Send than they do in Adobe SendNow.
If you're sending files from Adobe Reader, you can access your local Address Book, which should make entering email addresses easier. Please see: I’m trying to send a file from Adobe Reader, but I can’t access my computer’s address book to find my contacts. Why not?

How to cut and paste a picture into a shape in Illustrator CS4

In illustrator CS4 I am trying to cut and paste a picture into a shape. In freehand the shortcut was so easy. I know there is one in Illustrator but cant remember what it is, can anyone tell me?

What Steve said, with the addition that you may get rid of the outlying parts, by:
1) With the mask selected, in the Transparency palette dropdown select anything but Normal,
2) Object>Flatten Transparency, no need to change options,
unless you have withheld information and really want to distort the picture to fit the shape, in which case you should select both shape and picture and Object>Envelope Distort>Make with Top Object.
The procedure 1) - 2) is destructive in case of vector artwork but makes no difference with raster images, and it makes it easier to avoid accidental/unwanted selection outside the Clipping Mask.

Help! Cut and paste audio artifacts!

Hey all,
Using Garageband once I received my Mac, I was amazed at how easily I could take two tracks, merge them together, and there was no noticeable sound between the two tracks that were combined. This was a welcome relief, as the two previous programs (GuitarTracks, Cubase) I was trying on my PC were leaving the an unwanted sound change between the two; like the stopping and starting on a voice recorder.
With how great Garageband was making this cut and paste, stop and start process, I figured Logic would also make this rather expected process easy. However, once I started to cut and paste takes around in the program, I met with the same issue; audio artifacts due to the stop and start, cut and paste of tracks. So basically, I am left feeling as though I should do everything in one long take, which is absurd.
Please, does anyone know how to cut and paste tracks/takes and no longer worry about the present artifact between pastes?

No probelm, I think what you're describing is noise when trying to overlay one audio file on top of another at a junction point and have them blend smoothly together. Is that correct?

Is there any way to cut and paste photos within a folder (like on a PC) without downloading a program? I'm talking about changing the order of the photos.Drag and drop is a pain and takes too long if you have an extreme amount of pics. Also, copy and paste is just an extra step. Tx!

When you trying to arrange 500 downloaded photos in the order that you want them it is not the same time drag then it is to cut and paste.
Maybe you should look at why you are trying to manually arrange 500 photos in a specific order, which sounds like exactly the type of tedious task computers are designed to avoid....
Various options:
if you want the best photos to show up first, you can rate them. It's easier to hit apple-3 to add three stars than to hit apple-x and apple-v to cut and paste. Then you can tell iPhoto to sort by rating, top to bottom. And the rating can be used for other purposes as well.
Or, iPhoto will automatically sort them by time and date--if the time and date are wrong, then better to use iPhoto tools to fix that once and for all, than to manually rearrange.
So--what are these 500 photos and exactly why are you trying to re-arrange them? What order do you want to browse them in? Cut-and-paste is just a tool to get to your ultimate goal--maybe if you describe that ultimate goal, someone here can provide a better path than manually re-ordering.

If the crashing only happens with other peoples projects it could be for a variety of reasons. There are tons of asset references saved in the library (the location every item was imported from) and much more. None of those locations will exist on your system and internal complications may simply happen, especially with any runtime shared assets.
If possible you should consider adding more system RAM so you can multi-task. RAM is extremely cheap. I'm assuming from a smaller 500GB HD and 4GB RAM that you're probably on a laptop however. Installing RAM is still usually pretty easy if you have the notebook manual (or grab it online). It typically involves just lifting the keyboard or opening a single panel on the bottom of the notebook but it varies greatly. At any rate, 8GB RAM would help you quite a bit. If you do, just make sure you get the correct type of RAM (again, in the specs in your manual).
Even when you run out of physical RAM, Flash (like any other application) will still see more RAM based on the OS's swap memory setting (using available space on your HD as RAM). It will get much slower but Flash should see the total amount the 32bit OS can handle for RAM (it doesn't know if it's physical fast RAM or SWAP (fake) HD RAM though). If you open other apps with Flash they should also operate, but will also use swap RAM and you've probably noticed your HD crunching a lot while more apps are open.
That said, I have a 4GB RAM in my older i7 lappie and have used Flash CS5.5 and CS6 on it extensively, with other applications open. Although my projects contain mild assets and mostly tons of code. No issues at all. I just think your heavy assets are crashing you.

I can only cut and paste files in finder (with the mouse) when i give my password at every single action. This is too time consuming of course. The option in the menue bar cmd x is depicted in grey in stead of black, thus not possible. How to solve this? I use the lion version.

In the meantime I've gone back to Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro 13" 2010 model, where I use PathFinder as a Finder alternative that allows cutting and pasting, among other features I like (such as enlarging the default sidebar icon sizes in 10.6.8). My battery life was cut in half with Lion and most of the new features have been supplemented in Snow Leopard by third-party utilities. The only missing feature is iCloud, but I'm convinced Apple will backhaul this functionality to Snow Leopard at some time. Otherwise frustrated Snow Leopard users will move to Windows to move up to the cloud!

HELP! I have a work deadline and this should be easy!

I am at work-big presentation tomorrow-someone sent me an Indesign file and I can't cut and paste the image from indesign to power point. I am selecting the image-right clicking copy and pasting and nothing is working. I have tried to export the image and I can't even do that! I am NEW to indesign-anything that I am missing that is obvious-please let me know!

Thanks for the input. I know PowerPoint really well, but I'm trying to make InDesign documents now for the office. They want me to create great presentations, but Powerpoint is just a horrible application. I was trying to see if there was a way to convert between InDesign and PPT, just so I could use a better application to lay things out and then import it into PowerPoint so other users could work with it.
Easier said than done.
The best way I've seen is to follow these steps (I'm using InDesign and Illustrator CS2 and Powerpoint 2002):
- First, you need to make an InDesign file (where you're doing your designing) and a blank Illustrator file set to the dimensions of a PowerPoint slide (which is 10 x 7.5)
- After designing your presentation in InDesign, select all the elements on one page (CTRL + A)
- Copy and paste those elements into your blank Illustrator file
- Select File > Save For Web
- Choose PNG and mark the checkbox for transparency
- Click on the "Image Size" tab
- Mark the checkbox for antialiasing
- Increase the scale of the image to about 132%.
- Save it
- Paste it into PowerPoint (I like to drag it from my desktop and drop it into the slide)
- The image you made should fit your powerpoint slide. I don't know why you have to increase the scale of the PNG file when your Illustrator file is the same size as the PPT slide, you just do. You will probably have to still reduce the size of your image slightly, but the resolution should be sharp.
- Repeat these steps for all the other pages of your InDesign document
The resolution, typography, and layout of everything is decent, however, there are a lot of drawbacks to this method. Your customer can't edit any text elements because they're all PNG files. You also can't animate each element separately (unless you only chose to export only a selection to PNG from Illustrator, then animate that piece).
I'm pretty disappointed that there's not direct way to do this that will let the end users of PowerPoint regain control of the document to edit it or change animations, etc. I really hate PowerPoint.

Where is the drawing/designing/cut and pasting program???

Ive got a new Macbook Pro... and I wanted to just design somethings, draw, cut and paste, type....
but I realise surprisingly... there is no program included??
What is a basic program, I can do the above things, that is (should be...) FREE and most recommended, easy to use with a MAC?

Can't cut and paste in a web based e-mail service. (Not G-mail)

I belong to a membership site that is coaching me on e-mail marketing. I want to cut and paste different bits of information and ad links etc. to emails that I am sending out through the site.
For some reason, Firefox will not allow me to cut and paste when I am in this particular site??
I can cut and paste in Microsoft Word and other programs with no problem. But when I'm on this particular site it's no deal.
This is very frustrating. What can I do to resolve the problem.

I've had this happen a couple of times. Seems it just gets a bit borked sometimes.
Best thing to do is close Pages (or whatever), then do an iOS reset (hold power button then home button till screen goes blank and apple logo comes up and then let go).
Cut copy paste should work again as normal.

I can't cut and paste anything, and shift click doesn't work like it normally should. Shift click is acting like command shift insead of selecting everything between. Please, no ******** answers.

You don't have your numbers lock on or a shift key jammed or something do you? I have been using Lion since it was released and have never had nor seen an issue with the keyboard as yet. That's not to say you are not having one. Is it happening in particular programs? Have you installed any third party programs along the line like TypeIt4Me or such?

Why can't I cut and paste photos between project?

I recently made the transition from iPhoto to Aperture. One of the weird things is that I can't cut and paste photos between projects. In iPhoto this is an easy way to organize your projects if some photos are in the wrong place.
You also can't split projects, in iPhoto you can do this easily. Say, if two day's photos ending being in the same project, in iPhoto there's a button that you split them in the middle. Is there something like this in Aperture?

Copy and Paste:
In iPhoto "copy and paste" was possible, because it was not possible in the early versions, to see both projects at the same time, the one you are moving from, and the one you are moving to.
In Aperture you simply drag from the source project to the destination project to move image versions around. Also, it is easy to see more than one project in the Browser at the same time, see: Aperture 3 User Manual: Working with Two or More Browsers Open
To drag to another project, select the images in the project, then drag to the other project in the source list, for example:
To split a project, select the images you want to have in the split part, then create a new project from these images: Enable the check mark "Move selected items to new project". This will split the original project.

Why can't i cut and paste

Downloaded the new Mountain Lion and now I can't cut and paste. Tried the keyboard shortcuts and the drop down menu with no luck. Also can't accomplish this from right clicking. Any ideas?

Welcome to the Safari Discussions Forum. It's interesting you should mention that.
I did a quick 'drop-down' of the Edit menu, and those facilities are greyed out, but as soon as I highlighted the subject matter of your post, lo and behold, the cut & paste facilities appeared in black, so it is possible to copy & paste, provided you run the cursor over the item or passage you wish to copy (mine highlights in yellow), you should be able to copy and paste.
