Cut Audio Book Into Pieces?

I've got an mp3 audio book and it's one big file.  When I play it on my iPhone and pause to do something else,  it frequently returns to the beginning of the book when I resume.  I was wondering if there's an app for the iMac that will automatically cut the book into a series of files of a length I select.  Seems like I once had a pc program that would search for a blank spot every X minutes and cut the file into individual mp3's.  If I had individual files like that, at least I wouldn't be so far away from where was.
This is not the right section to ask, I know, but since I'm typing I'll ask if this is normal behavior for an iPhone.  I have an iPhone 4s updated to the current software.  Shouldn't it be able to pause and resume from the paused place in the file?

Loaded an audio book into music folder, can I put it into audio book folder

The answer from Zevoneer is only partially correct. *THERE IS A GLITCH IN iTUNES PROGRAMMING* that will make your book impossible to listen to if you change it from Music mode to Audio book mode through Options "Media Kind". This is what happens. Under iTunes Preferences, under Advanced, there is a box that says "Keep iTunes Music folder organized". When checked, this "Places files into album and artist folders, and names the files based on the disc number, track number, and the song title." So when you keep a book in the Music section, it stays organized.
HOWEVER, if you change that book to "Audio book" mode, all those files get mixed up. The "Audio book" section does not list Disc numbers (equivalent to Albums); it ONLY lists tracks. If a book has tracks labeled, for instance "The Bell Jar 2a", "The Bell Jar 2b" etc., then the book will play correctly. BUT if the book has cuts labeled "Track 1", Track 2", etc. then you will end up listening to Disc 1, Track 1 followed by Disc 2, Track 1, etc.. In other words, the books tracks end up completely jumbled, not a great way to follow a story! *APPLE, YOU NEED TO FIX THIS!!!* Asking us to label each track separately is inefficient and silly, when all you need to do is to get iTunes to recognize the Disc numbers, just as it does in Music mode.

  • I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod shuffle it rearranged the tracks so that they are in the wrong order.  How can I put them in the order they appear in the book?

I have just put an audio book into my iTunes music library.  When I tried to transfer it to my iPod Shuffle it put the chapters in the wrong order i.e. Chap 1, Chap 10, Chap 11 etc. rather than Chap 1, Chap 2, Chap 3 ...  How can I get it to put them in the order they appear in the book?

First, we need to know if the audiobook chapters are being treated by iTunes as music files or as audiobooks. If they are not audiobooks purchased from the iTunes store, they might be getting "shuffled". You will need to look at "File" - "Properties" (I think - I don't use iTunes under Windows - or right-click on the file and choose "properties") and look at the media type. If it is "Music", change it to "Audiobook". If this is not the problem, or does not fix anything, please post back.
Actually, looking at your post again, a second thought occurs to me - assuming there are less than 100 chapters in the book, just renaming them with a leading zero on the first nine chapters might do it. A computer will alphabetically sort filenames in the order you quote (1, 10, 11, 12, 13, ... 2, 21, etc.) but a leading zero will fix that (01, 02, 03 ... 10, 11, 12)

  • Importing an Audio Book into iTunes

I can copy an audio book into iTunes and from there put it on my iPod. What I can't seem to do is import it as an audio BOOK rather than a collection of music. My understanding is that if it is tagged as a BOOK I will be able to go back to where I was in my listening/reading at the exact point, even if I have listened to music in the interim.

It's been covered here already, but take a look here:
    Converting CDs to iTunes Audiobooks
You can go back to where you left off if your iPod supports chapters, which older iPods to not (the 3rd-gen iPods and earlier don't; I'm not sure when chapter support was added).

  • If I import audio books into the music section of itunes it lists the books as albums and all the chapters as tracks fine when I sync them to my ipod classic, but not if I import them as audiobooks, any ideas please?

If I import audio books into the music section of itunes it lists the books as albums and all the chapters as tracks fine when I sync them to my ipod classic, but not if I import them as audiobooks and then sync them, any ideas please?

If you import the audiobook as an audiobook to your iTunes Library, it will be listed in the Books section of your Library. You may need to turn on Books in order to see them. If you cannot see the File/Edit... etc. menu, use CTRL B on your keyboard to make that menu bar appear. Then go to Edit/Preferences>Books and put a tick in the box.
But, if the imported audiobook shows up in the Music section of your iTunes Library, highglight the files (in iTunes) and select File/Get Info/Options/Media Kind>Audiobook. These files will now transfer to the Books section of iTunes.
Once on an iPod Classic, look under the Audiobooks menu. Again, you may need to change the settings in the Settings menus, in order to have the Audiobooks option shown on the Main Menu and/or the Music Menu.

  • How do I get 'all' my audio books into the Audiobook folder?

Hi, I'm an iTunes newbie (new touch) and am trying to get to grips with some of the quirks of iTunes.
I have some audio books I purchased from Audible.co.uk and when imported into iTunes these go into the Audiobooks folder in the iTunes Library.
However, I also have several audio books I have converted from CD's into MP3. When I import these into iTunes, they always end up in the music folder of the Library. No amount of dragging and dropping or searching of the 'preferences' have allowed me to move these files into the Audiobook folder. Can this be done in iTunes?
    Any help greatly received.
    Regards,
    Glenn

If you are going to do it this way, I would suggest a SmartPlaylist.
Highlight all of your audiobooks, go to file, then get info. Now, pick a section to edit (Comments, grouping or genre are the best choices) and enter a tag such as "Audiobook".
Now, create a SmartPlaylist to only show anything with that particular tag.
For example, "Genre contains audiobook". Only files with Audiobook will show up.
Forgive me if you knew how to do this, but I figured as a new user this might be helpful.

  • Cutting Audio Accurately - into or before the first sample.....

    Hi.
I record 8 tracks of audio into logic from my drum machine. When i cut those 8 tracks together i find the first sound (eg - the kick) and cut just before the sample starts. Sometimes the cut is way before the sound starts and i have to decide whether to cut there or into the sound, as logic doesnt let cut anywhere else.
Has anyone got any advice on this?
1 more question - can you lock regions to be selected together. eg when i click on 1 of these 8 tracks, the other 7 are automatically selected?
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks, Ben

    Hi Ben,
If I'm understanding you correctly, it sounds like you have the "Snap" parameter found in the upper right hand corner of the arrange page, set to "bars", or maybe "beats".
Set it to "snap", and you are free to scrub and scroll as close to the waveform as desired. I believe holding the apple key down give you even further resolution...
If you are taking about cutting in the sample window, however, make sure "search zero crossings" is disabled, from the sample editors edit menu.
As for "locking regions together", you want to utilize the "Group" function. By assigning all 8 tracks to the same group, and then making sure that "Arrange (Select)" is enabled from the group settings, selecting and making cuts on 1 track, will select and make the cuts on all 8 tracks simultaneously.
Page 277 of the Logic Pro Help PDF has more info on Groups...

  • I imported a CD audio book into iTunes 11, searching says its there, but I cannot find it. It does appear in my iTunes music folder.

Using Audiobook builder I imported an audiobook CD into iTunes 11. I can see it in my iTunes music folder on the hard drive, searching in iTunes 11 says its there, but in either the albums or list, it does not appear. I have successfully imported many CDs using Audiobook Builder before, but with this particulary book I have this problem.
    Any ideas anyone ?

The missing file thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
At guess you've used a different profile name. Files inside the media folder have survied the transfer, but those outside are expected to be on the same absolute file paths, but no longer are.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

  • How to join two audio books into one

Somehow the audiobook that i have had for a while got split into two different audiobooks
Is there someway to merge them back together?

The following solution will merge two audio streams of different formats and mix two audio streams of the same format... translation, make sure they're the same format before you merge them.

  • HT203433 Can I convert a single track audio book into multiple chapters?

This is more for my 6 year old son, we have on CD Thomas the Tank Engine story CDs, which imported as individual songs/chapters, so they can be shuffled.  I recently purchased another Thomas story CD from itunes assuming it would download in the same way, but it was an audiobook.  It does not show different chapters, they are all lumped together in on single file.  I have gone through and made a note of the timings where the 12 stories start and stop, so is there any way that I can separate them into 12 separate files under one album?

    Hello,
Also, I understand that I can always "place" (i.e. drag and drop) the image requiring processing into the Photoshop document containing the adjustment layers, saving a merged copy as jpeg, and repeat... but such a manual method would border on insulting to this prowess of a program.
If anyone can get creative and suggest a method of recording an action that can make use of the document with the adjustment layers and a variable document that will be passed through during the batch process, I'm all eyes!
You have the other choice with drag/drop or duplicate where you copy the adjustment layers into the other image document.  Target all the adjustment layers in the layer palette click on the first one the Ctrl|CMD+click on the others or if adjacent Shift+click on the last one to target all the adjustment layer then use menu Layer>Duplicate Layers...  and use the pull down menu in the pop-up dialog to choose the other open image document.
You can of course record an action when you add all the adjustment layers then play that action on the other images. Twenty adjustment layer on top of an image seems a bit extreme to me.

  • Splitting an audio track into separate tracks

I recently recorded my band on a handheld recorder.  I let the recorder run continuously throughout the entire performance, and would now like to:
Separate each song into its own audio track
Perform any mastering necessary on each track individually
Once done, copy each track over to iTunes and also burn it to a CD with song title information
It seems that (other than the actual art of mastering) this should be easy and it probably is, but I am not quite sure what to do despite going through the Logic Pro manuals, tutorials on line, Web training programs, etc.  It seems that everything I read is related to creating one track from what you have, not breaking it apart.  Can someone point me to a tutorial or provide me some guidlines?
    Thanks!

I do not know much (yet) about mastering, but I would suggest the following:
    1. Import the single audio track from your handheld recorder to your computer.
    2. Import the track into logic; you should be able to just drag the icon from the desktop onto the track and it will copy and show up as a blue audio region.
    3. Go through the single track and cut it up into pieces, dividing each song. To do this, move the playhead to where you need a division and click the icon "split by playhead" at the top. This cuts the region wherever the playhead is.
    4. Now that the single long audio track is divided into sections, create some new tracks (Command-Option-N). You can now drag each segment from the long track to the new tracks until you have separate tracks for every song.
    5. I would recommend exporting each song in one of two ways; either right-click the region and select "export as audio file" or you can click the solo "S" button in the lower right, click on one of the regions, which will highlight yellow, and click "Bounce" at the top to do essentially the same thing.
    6. When you open the exported audio file outside of logic, it will copy to itunes. From here, you can name the files, arrange them in a playlist and prepare to burn.
    I hope this helps!

  • IPAD - Audio Book freezing

I purchased the Audio book "Yes! Scientifically Proven Ways...", and the audio keeps freezing up. I can replicate this issue on both my ipod and ipad 3Gs. The book was downloaded from itunes and is in excess of 5 hours. According to the groups they recommend splitting the Audio book into two pieces. That is great but the file is copy protected. Would someone at Apple be kind enough to offer me a solution? It sounds like if Chapters go in excess of 5 hours this starts to happen. About 10 minutes into the book I get the error. Thanks for your time.

Does anybody have an idea or suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Transfering audio books from MacBook to iPhone 5s

I just asked how to transfer audio books from my MacBook to iPhone5s and had a reply that it should work like it did with my iPod touch. Well it doesn't. I tried moving audio books into my iTine Library (which I never did with iPod). I started to synch individual books but stopped as it is confusing to me what gets saved and what gets erased. I've tried dragging several ways. Help!

Well, maybe it should but it won't work. I drag the file over to the iPhone and nothing happens. I thought maybe because the audio books weren't in iTunes, so I moved them to the library on my macbook and still nothing happens.
