Cut out Picture w/ No Background

All I want to do is take a digital picture and cut it out so
that it is in a circle shape w/ no background. I need to input it
into a flash template. I've tried saving it as a GIF, because I was
told that it would make the background transparent. However, when I
put it into flash, it still shows a white background. Can anyone
help me? This seems like this would be a fairly simple & common
task.
Thanks!

If the image has a white background and you are exporting it
as a GIF
with Index transparency to eliminate the white background,
you will be
left with a white anti aliasing halo around the foreground.
You need to
extract the foreground from the white background. Here's a
good article
about how to do that.
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/fireworks/articles/removing_backgrounds.html
Once you've done that, set the export format to 32 bit PNG
with a matte
that matches the background of your Flash file.

There is a free, online Photoshop-like application:

I have not used pixlr, but a client of mine uses it all the time and says it's great.
I found another one on Google: http://www.splashup.com/
You may be able to do what you need without going to PS.  Or, as Vince suggests, download the 30-day PS free trial.

  • How do I cut out imported objects and make background transparent?

    Illustrator CS3.
I have embedded a jpeg picture which I need to cut out and make the background transparent. How do I do this? An opacity mask? How do I create a mask the same shape as the object I need to cut out? The object needs central pieces cut out too. Please help!

Opacity mask of clipping path are the two ways to do this in Illustrator. Photoshop is the ideal program for this task.

  • Using the Pen tool to cut out shapes?

Hi fols, I am looking to make a stop frame animation, based on politics
and I plan on doing this all in Adobe Photoshop (i.e move the objects then file save etc t
hen sticking it all into imovie) what I was wondering is in order to cut out pictures of say politicians heads, I have tried using the brush tool to draw all the way around the head and then magic eraser to the background but do you think there would be an easier way to do this via the pen tool?

  • Whats the best method to cut out hair?

Im using photoshop Cs4 - whats the best method to cut out hair from a background?

I just had to do a quick search, because I was not sure when the Refine Edge was introduced, but it appears you do have it in CS4.  Check out this tutorial, but ignore all the stuff about paths.  Make a rough selection with Quick select - it shares a location on the tool bar with the Magic Wand, so don't confuse the two.
Having made the rough selection, open Refine Edge.  I remember it took me a while to get the hang of it, but tutorials will help
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxKPUW1vYEg
The above tutorial deals specifically with CS4.  This next one is probably the best real world use of Refine Edge I've seen, because it uses a difficult subject (as opposed to the easy selections so many tutorials fob you off with)

  • I would like cut out an object using the quick select tool and drop the object into another picture. Can anyone help

I am using background pictures and want to cut out objects from other jpegs using the quick select tool and drop them into the background picture. So if i have a banana and select the object i need to copy the banana into the other background.
    Hope this makes sense.
    Gary

Select banana. Right click>layer via copy. Move tool. Click and drag to other file. Drop on image.
OR: load the background and banana in one stack (File>Scripts>Load File Into Stack). Select banana and layer via copy or create layer mask.

  • How can I save a a cut-out pic without the white background?

This may seem like a stupid question, but when I cut-out an image (jpg), and then go to save it, it saves with the background of the pic in white. How can I save it without a background at all so that I can use it in another program like Power Point???

Thanks for the info. I didn't know jpg. files don't support the transparent background, but guessed that it was going to be something like that.
Thanks so much for the info and your help!

  • Kdl40s5100 picture cuts out for about 1 minute then comes back

when i'm watching programs the pictuture (and sound) will cut out then return in about one minute...  this will repeat itself about every 30 -45 minutes....  problem does not occur when watching videos - only cable or antenna

New pc just built and using SSD for C drive. Working great for a few days but minimal usage with just drivers and BIOS updates etc. Then yesterday I turn on pc to do a quick Google search and half way when typing a search question the keyboard entry quits and Firefox is not responding. I tried IE and the same thing happened so maybe its a Win 7 thing I use Win 7 64 Pro with 16GB Ram and i72600K. Also, yesterday was a big Windows update night so I don't know if that interfered in background. Today it happened again but after I waited and watched and hit CTRL/ALT/DEL the system came back and was not locked solid the the night before.

  • How to reveal the background layer through a cut-out?

How can I cut out a shape from my PS image to expose the background layer?  I will "Save for Web" with a transparent background.
The shape will be a rectangle, and a text layer will later be added to display within the rectangle.
My goal is to use the PS image as part of a Web page, allowing the Web page background to show through the rectangle which surrounds the text.
    Hope this explanation makes sense.
    thanks!

Sounds like what you want to do is what countless others do - nothing special.
In Photoshop, put what you want to show on a layer (not Background), make it partially transparent (either with an erase operation or hiding parts of it with a mask), make sure no Background layer is showing (you'll see the checkerboard through the transparent parts), and save the work product as a PNG (or possibly a GIF, but PNG offers partial transparency).
You'll also want to save your design as a master PSD of course, so you can edit the master file
This page might give you some food for thought...

  • Importing Cut Out Images from Photoshop w/out White Background?

    Hello Everyone,
I am brand new to Illustrator. I have been a Photoshop user all these years. I am trying to import a photo to Illustrator CS5 that I cutout using this method:
    http://thedesigned.com/2009/08/21/how-to-cut-out-images-like-a-professional-in-photoshop/
Unfortunately it superimposes itself into Illustrator with a white background when I thought it would be transparent surrounding the image. I opened the file in Illustrator as a PSD. But I tried .jpg as well. Anyone know how to work around this?
    Thanks!
    Randall

Well from the looks of the tutorial which leaves a lot of info out you ended up flattening the image so that the background is now white but that is hard to tell from the tutorial.
If your background is white you should rmove it in in photoshop and save the image as a psd with no background layer only a transparent layer of the subject.
Then place that .psd in Illustrator and your background will be transparent.
I suggest placing it rather than opeining it in AI.
Like such: (even my signature is a psd on a tansparent layer.)

  • 'cut-out' images from Photoshop import into FCE with unwanted background

I want to import some custom 'cut-out' images from Photoshop, but they come into FCE with a rectangular background around them. Is there a way to import just the irregular 'cut-out' image?
    Bob

Make sure the images are RGB 8-bit and in a format that carries an alpha channel or Photoshop transparency like Photoshop, TIFF, PNG, even PICT.

  • Background Audio Cutting Out

    Hey Folks,
Each time I preview the project, the background audio will
play during a few slides, then cut out completely. This is the
first time it's happened, however, I think there may be a causal
link to the insertion of swf files into a few of the slides.
Anyone know what the solution is? Thanks in advance.
    Christopher

Yes! I have the same issue too with me Motorokr s9 stereo BT headset and my Jawbone Icon -- This happens both when playing music via the iPod app OR when speaking on the phone. I can't put the phone in my pocket or else this happens!!! I also can't put it on the desk then walk around my 12x12 office without the dropouts. Having to hold the phone close to the headset kinda defeats the purpose. BTW, my 3GS worked almost flawlessly with these devices. I know, early-adopter syndrome but REALLY! I really rely on the BT headsets
Just got off the phone with Apple Support -- they were ver nice and helpful. They've scheduled me a Genius appt for tomorrow morning so they can run diags on the iPhone. They've also asked me to bring the headsets.

  • How do you cut out the part of an image in a photo?

How do you cut out a part of an image on a photo that you have added to Pages. For example, if I have added a picture of a giraffe to Pages how would I cut out the giraffe from the image and get rid of the rest of the image

You can use the instant alpha tool to make the background transparent.
FYI: Pages is part of iWork, not iLife.
