Cut out the end of an mp3.

I have a cd that has a song I like, but at the end the singer is talking to the audience as it is a Live CD. I would like to trim out the talking and end it at the end of song. I would rather not waste space on the cd with 2 minutes of introducing the band. The whole cd is like that but I really only like the one song.

There is a nice little shareware utility MP3 Trimmer which I use all the time for this sort of thing. Of course it requires that your files are in MP3 format so if you normally import as AAC or something else, this one might not be that useful.
I like this program because it actually works on the MP3 file itself and when you trim and/or fade, it does it to the MP3 "frames" of the song so you don't quality like you would if you used another program that imports the MP3 then re-encodes it back to MP3 when you are done. There is no re-encoding with MP3 Trimmer.

How do you cut out a part of an image on a photo that you have added to Pages. For example, if I have added a picture of a giraffe to Pages how would I cut out the giraffe from the image and get rid of the rest of the image

You can use the instant alpha tool to make the background transparent.
FYI: Pages is part of iWork, not iLife.

Pulling out the end of a song SHIFTS where the song is!

I'm doing a clip with a song in it..I've spliced the intro together a few times to give extra time for narration that won't conflict with singing, should the presenter want to make comments.
Now, I get to the final segment, and I'd like to just pull out the end of that segment to the end of the song. I test play it, and everything's fine.
Then, I render.
When I test play after rendering, it's like where the song was "shifted" over, when all I did was extend where the clip ends.
Do I need to start over, or is this just a dumb user mistake?

Can anybody tell me how I can fade out the end of the sound clip I have created in sound track pro?

If you're in multitrack mode, you'll need to use volume automation. Click the arrow to the left of the track name to open the automation pane. Double-click on the volume automation line at the place you want your fade to begin. Double-click again at the place you want your fade to end and grab the little square dot to the bottom.

My iPod Classic is cutting off the ends of songs; what's up with this?

My iPod Classic is cutting off the ends of songs...just silence. The play indicator shows that there's more data there but it's just blank. The songs play fine on iTunes and the data on my PC (Windows 7, iTunes 11.02.26). And it's not always the same song... It's like random. So it's got to be a bug in the iPod Classic firmware. Any help from Apple? Get a Zune?

Is it always the same songs that get cut off? So the question is, after you do a Restore, when you re-sync songs back to the iPod, is it always the same songs that get cut off? Or are they different songs each time? Try doing a Restore and re-sync several times...
If they are the same songs, that points to a problem with the song files. Maybe there is data corruption on your computer's hard drive, that caused the song files to become corrupted in a way that iTunes on the computer can still handle, but the iPod's software cannot. The corrupted songs stay the same.
If they are different songs, that points to a problem on the iPod. If a Restore does not fix the problem, then it may be data corruption caused by the iPod's hard drive becoming unreliable. When you do a re-sync after Restore, the data is not being stored properly on the iPod due to a hardware problem. It randomly affects different songs each time during the re-sync

When I try to make a time lapse in lightroom it cuts off the end of the video

I then export the video it processes like normal. BUT when I watch it back it misses out the end of videos. I am an A-Level Student and I need to use this for my course, please Help.

If you have creative cloud, there is a far better way to make a time-lapse using Photoshop. The Lightroom way works but is a very slow kludge that creates files that you have to recompress to make them work. I would only use this if you don't have Photoshop or quicktime Pro. Why did iTunes take out the category, "AIFF or mp3 encoder" on their latest version?

I make CDs for use in my carr so it is valuable to me to know which version of a song is on iTunes: either AIFF, or mp3. The previous versions offered these specs for a category as a column listing in the library but the latest version doesn't; if you don't remember where you last had it set you have to check in prefs., then hit "import settings" which is annoying when you're compiling for a CD.
Why did they take that category out (under "view options") or am I wrong and you can tell me where I can find it?

Your post was a bit confusing because you were describing unrelated things.
I was simply trying to explain a few things to help you out. Seems it did not work.

Please check out exactly the directions I wrote about "import settings". I believe you will find the active button, "import settings" next to "ask to import CD" which is next to the words "when you import a CD:" under the heading, "General" in the pull-down menu, Preferences.
Yes, I understand what the Import Settings are and how to change them.
However, Import Settings has nothing to do with burning a CD or selecting file types for adding to a playlist.
Since it is not needed for making a playlist or burning a CD, I don't understand why it would "annoying".
If you are burning a data or MP3 CD and only want specific file types, then you need to know what format of the files you add to a playlist are but that still has no relevance to what your current Import Settings are.
And no, iTunes will NOT "convert the file as needed" if you want one song in both formats.
If you are burning an audio CD, the result is one format. Audio CD.
That is why I wrote, "If you are burning an audio CD the format is irrelevant", because iTunes will convert AIFF, WAV, MP3, AAC & Apple Lossless to audio CD format.
Next time read the question thoroughly, make sure you do have the right version, and test what the the person is saying

Captivate cuts off the end of text to speech audio sequences

Hi there,
I have a problem Captivates TTS audio. When I use the F3 key to check the audio sequence, everything sounds normal.
However, after publishing the entire course as an .exe file some audio sequences are cut off at the end, e.g. using the following text “ear-phones are needed”, in the published version Paul only says “Ear-phones are NEED”.
First, I thought that the end of the audio was too close to the end of the slide. Therefore, I made sure that every slides duration was longer than the audio. But it didn’t make a difference.
Has anyone experienced this before and knows how to help?

FCP7 cutting off the end of my projects... is there a workaround?

Really stumped on this one and thanks in advance for taking the time to read this. My issue is that I have a 1 minute 50 project I am exporting. Nothing fancy, just a few cuts with a bit of music. For reasons I do not understand, FCP 7.03 exports it minus the last 10 seconds! I am exporting in HQ 422 (30 fps) as a self-contained project as I need to pass it over to a few other people. Worse still is I have noticed it has done this now with another project and I am investigating that as well. It is approximately the last 10 seconds on the other project.
I have tried resetting the I/O points, deleting the re-render files, re-rendering, adding lots of space after the last 'O' point, selecting everything etc... but have no solution.
Other than having FCP 7.03, I have a MacBook Pro with a copious amount of memory etc..., store the data (and metadata) on an external hard drive and have quite a fair amount of experience with FCP 7.03, a little with Avid, Motion etc...

Cutting out the Track without it Moving?? FCE 4

I am working on A music video. I have three Layers of me singing the same verse and when I want to edit out the scenes I don't want so other senes will show.. The video will move out of sync. (Loaf Of Bread method, take a middle chunk out of the bread and it moves foward.) Is there anyway I can delete parts of a scene without letting the videos move out of sync?? I am really new at all of this so you wil have to show me how. Thanks!!

You want to do a Lift Edit (aka Lift Delete).
Select the clip you want to delete. Then do Sequence > Lift. FCE will delete the clip and leave a gap in place of the clip.
Just don't do Sequence > Close Gap or Control-G or you WILL move the remaining clips relative to the clip you just deleted. And also don't roll or slip either of the clips immediately before or after the sequence clip that you just deleted.
NOTE: If clip MVI_0463 on track v2 completely covers the underlying clip on v1 there is actually no need to delete the clip on v1 because you won't see it in the finished video anyway. Clips on higher tracks obscure clips on lower tracks.

There is no "type of file". It's all zeroes andones.

type(extension) to be .iso. how can i do that???If you want to make the extension ".iso" then just end the file name with ".iso".
If you want to make the "type" iso, so that it can be manipulated by an iso application or whatever, then you have to make sure the bytes you write are of the proper format.
As already stated: Files don't have a type.

IMovie 08 cutting off the end of my video when exporting

First off, I'm running 10.5.3, iMovie 7.1.2, iDVD 7.0.2 on a MB Pro. I have a 256mg nVidia video card, 4gigs of RAM and about 55Gigs of space left on my hard drive. The movie is about 5-9gigs in size-I made sure everything was updated before I started. I created a 45 min movie in iMovie and exported it via-"export using QuickTime." Under "options->settings" I chose Apple Intermediate Codec (frame rate current, compressor-other) with the default settings for AIC. It takes about 35 minutes to process. I import the movie into iDVD via drag-and-drop where I want the movie to go in the menu. All the menu links, music and buttons work. I test the movie and its flawless up until the very end where I have the credits. It plays all the credits except the second to last one. The one that failing is a scrolling credit that lasts the maximum 60 seconds and the last credit/frame of the video is a non-scrolling screen that lasts for 6 seconds. This 6 second credit/final frame is fine. The whole movie is exactly 45:56sec. What happens is that the movie will play through all the credits and once it gets to flawed one, instead of scrolling words it scrolls a solid white block up the screen where all the words should be. I've tried the whole share/import to iDVD twice and actually let it burn to a disc once. Same problems. I have tried exporting to the media browser as well, same problem. The video has the issue once it's exported (so the problem is not in iDVD 08). ANY tips or ideas would be welcome. Sorry if there is a ton of useless info, not sure what's relevant and what isn't. Can't find anything specific to my issue in other posts.

Ditto white screen problem.
I am using iMovie 08 for a 23 minute photo-music slideshow for more control over placement and my music.
The final scrolling credits are 60 seconds long over a photo that is 59 seconds long. I have a wipe right and a new photo and the credits/music end. Everything plays well in imovie, but on the DVD i burn with iDVD, there is a white screen where the credits should be.
Applecare suggested changing to another photo. I did. No change, another DVD coaster. Applecare suggested changing the jpg photo to tiff. I did, no change, another DVD coaster.
I exported again in Media Browser, different name, but got the same white screen.
The 5 other titles in the project are fine in iDVD. When I play it on my TV, it looks fantastic, except for that last white screen and no credits.
Any suggestions?
