Cut section of footage with audio out of timeline - HOW??
Hi I've tried to select a middle section of my timeline and cut it out and have the two sections join - how do I do this? I've tried cutting the back end and pasting over the middle section, but it will NOT overwrite the audio. Video will overwrite but it does not lay audio over with it.
I've Tried using Extract audio when using "Paste over at Playhead" checked and not checked. It doesn't work either way. any help please?
Hi dsafian - if I understand you correctly, removing a section is simple, but there are two scenarios and you do not give enough detail for us to know which one to describe, so here's both:
1. Cutting a section out of a single clip: there is more than one way, but here's one. Place the playhead at the start of the part you want to remove and hit Command-T. That will split the clip at that point. Now go to the end of the unwanted part, and do the same. Then select the middle part and hit 'Delete'.
2. Removing several clips: Select the first clip you want to remove, and then Shift-Click on the last clip to be removed. this will select all of the clips that you want removed. Now hit 'Delete'.
Does that help? Tell us if we have misunderstood your problem.

I want to start with audio on a timeline and add photos. Why is this not possible in the new confusing version of iMovie?
Yrs,
Unspeakably FrustratedYes, you can do this. Drag the music track to the background and start adding your pictures. A great way to do this is to use beat markers so your photos will change on the beat.
A really fast way to do this is to line up your photos in an iPhoto album in the order you want them. You can drag the whole album into iMovie at once.
Here is a tutorial on the beat marker feature.
Here is a sample of a slideshow made by dragging in the music first, adding beat markers, and then adding photos. -

I have read a number of forum treads and I'm at my wits end. I want to capture in HD edit it in real time and export to DVD, BlueRay and Flash. I have spent hours on support and updated every driver and configuration setting that I know. PLEASE will someone tell me what do I need to do to get this to work?
Is it the DELL? Do I go to a Mac? (Ironic that most adobe tutorials are on Macs) Do I need a different solution? I'm going crazy! Maybe it's me and I'm capturing and creating sequences all wrong. Please provide a workflow that is working for you. Let me know if you need more specifics. Thank you in advance!2. I did a search for HDVSplit and came up with this site. http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm Is this correct? Is there a released version?

Help with audio out when plugging into 3.5" jack on a MacBook's combo input
With my old iMac, I used to plug my guitar into the 3.5" microphone jack* and either used the computer's speakers or plug headphones into the separate headphone port for audio out.
Now I have MacBook Air with a headphone/mic combo port. I checked the sound settings in System Preferences and couldn't select speakers for external audio. Is there a way to assign audio-out to the speakers and keep audio-in assigned to the mic/headphone port? Or am I going to need to buy some dongle or adapter now?
*How did I connect a guitar to the 3.5" port? I used a generic computer speaker wire (3.5" on each side) and plugged a 3.5" to 1" adapter (the kind you use for stereo headphones) into the guitar.Hi Tim -
Please bear with me because I am no Apple expert. However, I do remember reading something that might help you out.
You wrote that you store your sound libraries are installed on an external drive. Someone, who posted either here or on another Logic bulletin board, basically stated that problems may occur if an external hard disk drive that carries the sound libraries is FAT32 or NTFS formatted (formatted for a Windows-based computer). Apparently, an external hard disk drive utilized for sound libraries should be formatted as *Mac OS Extended* (not journaled). (I hope that someone more expert on this subject will either validate this claim or suggest another option.)
Try doing a Search in this forum for more information on this subject. But I think how that external drive is formatted might make a difference on performance for the Mac computer.
I come from the PC world as well. I like both the Apple and PC systems. But I really like working with the Logic program.
Good luck to you

IMac Internal Speakers WITH Audio Out
I have a stereo hooked up to my iMac and everything sounds great. What I'm wondering is this. Is there a way to have sound come out of BOTH the internal speakers and the headphone/audio out jack? I haven't found a simple soultion obviosuly, but is there any kind of work around? I know can buy a pair of external speakers and all would be fine. But I'd like to not take away from the output of the headphone jack. So then I was wondering if I cannot have the internal speakers work in conjunction with the headphone jack, if I get a pair of firewire or USB speakers so as to not take away from the headphone jack, will they even work since I have something plugged into the headphone jack? I'm guessing they would still work since they are independent from the jack, but I'm not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Raw files WITH audio appear in timeline WITHOUT audio
I have many files that absolutely HAVE audio appear with none in the timeline. The track itself is there, but the waveform is flat, no sound, and nothing in the source monitor. However, when you "reveal in finder" that particular clip, and play it through VLC, there IS audio.
My thought is that the metadata associated with the clip is corrupted, be it xmp, cfa, or pek.
I have run into this problem several times now. As far as I know, there is no easy way to have premiere to"redo" the audio conforming. Short of mucking around manually to find and delete all the metadata associated with that clip, I don't konw what to do. And I feel like even that doesn't always work...
For this particular project, I am collaborating remotely with another editor, so I completely understand the problem - the project files not routing to the same metadata or soemthing. That said, I did try to "reload" the footage and point premiere back to the original on my machine, but it still comes in with no audio in the timeline. I think it even tried to conform, but it clearly didn't do anything. Premiere thinks there's no audio at all.
Anyone have any ideas?Any advice as to how to do that most efficiently? "Clean cache database" in the media preferences doesn't equate to "delete all cache." Its cleaning the cache for old projects or something, right?
And it is extremely difficult to manually delete these files, since many of the clip across many different projects stored in the cache folder share the same name, so the pek and cfa files are basically the same names too. no way to know which is which, save for painstaking attention to each file's modification date.
does it have anything to do with the XMP files too? Or is it just the pef and cfa? Which is the culprit here?
Thanks for your help, Jim. -
Mts files cannot imported with audio in pro cc6. how i can import mts files with audio?
when i am importing mts files in pro cc6. every time it is being imported without audio. though original mts files have audio. how can i import mts files with audio in cc6?
To clarify Media Browser suggestion - very important that you copy ALL content from SD card to hard drive before importing using Media Browser. If you only have the .mts files alone, there is stuff missing that is needed for Premiere to properly interpret the video/audio.

I am running a Mac Probook 2.0 with 1.5 gigs or Ram OS 10.48 Final cut Express 3.5 HD. I need to import footage from another source. I have been importing as mpeg 1 when I import to FCP i loose the audio, what format can I use to import into FCP that will also take the audio? I have the capablity to change the format prior to importing into FCP. anyone out there have any suggestionsa?
try using a program like MPEG Streamclip to transcode the clip before you import it ... best bet is to convert it to the native format of your timeline

Encore CS3 - Hangs and import problems with menus and avi footage with audio tracks present.
I'm trying to import some footage files in .avi format into Encore CS3 and am having several problems.
In what follows when I say "crash" I mean Encore quits with a standard Windows error. When I say "hang" I mean Encore does not quit but rather becomes an unresponsive process that must be killed manually using Windows Task Manager.
My System:
WinXP Pro SP2
2.93 GHz Intel Celeron CPU - single core
Intel PERL mobo
3GB 400MHz RAM
NVidia 7800GS video
I mention these specs however I am not experiencing any hardware
related bugs or issues (like out of memory or video driver crashes
etc) when using any CS3 app.
The footage files (as reported by GSpot) and problems I am seeing. In all cases GSpot reports that I have the appropriate codec installed:
footage1.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 192kb/s, 716834 KB
Attempting to import as timeline causes Encore CS3 to hang.
Importing as an Asset allows it to import but when I try to click
on it in the project windown to add it to a new empty timeline,
Encore hangs. It plays fine in Windows Media Player.
footage2.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, MPEG-1 Layer 3 48kHz 128kb/s, 718302 KB
Imports fine as either a timeline or asset but no audio track comes
with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no audio.
footage3.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, MPEG1-Layer3 48kHz 112kb/s, 717606 KB
Imports fine as either a timeline or asset but no audio track comes
with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no
audio. I tried converting this one using AVS to both MPEG3 and DivX,
each using MPEG1-Layer3 44kHz 192kb/s audio, and got the same issue
upon importing into Encore CS3. I also loaded it into Camtasia
Studio and it looked fine over there. The audio was present and I
was able to export it as a .WAV file. When I tried looking at the
file in Soundbooth CS3, there was no audio track or, more
accurately, the audio track was a flat line.
By way of comparison these are importing perfectly:
footage4.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Beta2, MPEG1-Layer3 48kHz 189kb/s Two mono
channels LAME3.96r, 717436 KB.
footage5.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Final, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s Six
channels (3/2 .1), 716418 KB.
footage6.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.0 Final, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s Six
channels (3/2 .1), 716418 KB.
footage7.avi - XVID XviD 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s 6 channels
(3/2 .1), 717502 KB
footage8.avi - XVID XviD 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s 6 channels
(3/2 .1), 717180 KB
footage9.avi - XVID XviD 1.1.2 Final, Dolby AC3 48kHz 448kb/s 6 channels
(3/2 .1), 2291904 KB
Although this one imported & transcoded correctly, when I went to
build it to a DVD image file I got some strange errors during the
"planning video" stage that prevented the process from completing.
Unfortunately I neglected to write down the error message I recieved
which read like quite nonsensical babble to me, and I have since
deleted the project folder. I remember it was not a memory or
display related error and it included a timestamp where the error
was happening. I played the footage in the preview panel thru the
identified timestamp but it previewed perfectly without even a
jitter in either the video or audio. Took forever to transcode so I
doubt I'll be doing this one again anytime soon.
Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on theAnother issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the remote control to make it appear. Other than that it seems to play ok in that player. Also tested it in 2 other DVD players (a Panasonic and Zenith) and it worked just fine like it's supposed to in them. Also plays perfectly in my computer's DVD player/burner using Windows Media Player v10. I tried burning to Memorex +RW single-layer single-sided disks at 6, 7, & 8Mbps project settings but got the exact same result every time.
Encore CS3 crashes fairly often during authoring, particularly during imports, and when I go to edit things like calling up a timeline in the timeline panel, dragging footage into an existing timeline, or changing button links in a menu etc.. I have also experienced seemingly random hangs even more often, probably 5 or 6 times as often as a crash. Saving the project after every little change I make, then closing and restarting Encore allows me to make progress albeit at a significantly reduced workflow rate. Accessing Photoshop from Encore appears to be working flawlessly so far aside from the slow load times. Encore hangs sometimes during video transcoding, repeat the process and it works ok. If I try to import a menu from the library after importing my footage files, Encore hangs trying to import it either at the 50% mark or the 99% mark (it varies even with the same exact menu selected from the library). If I import the menu first and the footage after, then no problems. Also trying to render motion menus after importing footage causes Encore to hang, render before footage import and everything works ok. Interestingly enough, previewing my project in Encore's monitor or preview panels works perfectly even in High quality mode -- in fact it operates quite smoothly in comparison to other apps I have tried. Although those footage files that had missing audio tracks on import obviously played silently, I have yet to experience a hang or crash during a preview or when scrubbing through a timeline in the monitor panel.
The last problem I've seen is with the project cache files. It doesn't always get rid of cache files when stuff is deleted from the project. I was working on one project and surprisingly ran out of disk space. When I tracked it down I found that there were some two dozen copies of a footage file I had repeatedly imported and deleted from the project still sitting in the cache folder. The file was an avi about 2GB so it was taking up some 40 GB of disk space for stuff that was no longer in the project. I tried shutting down Encore and manually deleting all the cache files, and that worked for most of them, but there was one 2GB file that kept reappearing in the cache folder even though it was no longer in the project. The XML file in the cache folder still had references to it in there so I can only assume that was the reason it kept showing up. I eventually had to delete and totally recreate the project from scratch to regain my lost disk space. This included having to sit thru a 6 hour long transcoding session which pissed me off to no end.
Encore CS3 appears on the surface to be a very powerful, feature rich, and approachable app with a simple easy to use interface, but it is awfully bugged in just about every area I have explored and still needs lots and lots of work for it to be really useful. Frankly for me it is pretty damn annoying that I have invested so much money in this suite only to find several of the apps in it (Encore & Premiere in particular) behaving this poorly. In my opinion every single app in the suite exhibits lousy performance whenever you must do anything at all involving the disk from the time you click to start it up until the time you click to close it down. Several of them are just as seriously bugged as Encore too, and being a long time Photoshop v5.5 user I expected much more from Adobe. Even Photoshop is two or three times as slow now (e.g. it takes about 20-30 seconds to simply create an empty 500x500 pixel image file and almost a full minute to load a 30x60 pixel single-layer gif). So far I have attempted to create 6 DVDs using Encore and after 3 weeks of effort have only succeeded in getting one of them onto a final disk -- and that one is kinda limping to work correctly in my DVD player. Three of those projects became so corrupted while working on them that I had to delete them completely and recreate them from scratch, only to find that I still couldn't get them to completion for one reason or another. Seriously disappointing. -
RED footage with audio won´t import to timeline anymore?!
Hello,
I cannon import any RED footage to the timeline anymore. I can import it with media browser, view it in viewer and make a new comp with it but there is no way to get a clip from the viewer to the timeline. It works fine with RED footage that has no audio.
I am running 8.2 and this worked fine a week ago...
Any info?
ThanksSo it gets more confusing ...
I cleared all the .xmp files from a folder, and drag and dropped straight from explorer to the timeline, it all imported !
So i start do this for a few different folders, seems to be working...
I then say , well hey ill go back to media browser and try to reimport and organise my file structure the way i like.. all of the sudden it reverts back to audio only, even from win explorer, then i grab 4 clips at once ... it imports them ?
So, i go back to media my project window, grab 3 files, and it now drops them on the timeline.
I won't play like I'm understanding the logic here, one would think spanning clips or somthing but it seems much more random
Though, if in the future anyone has this problem, try draggin more than 1 clip at a time in and see if that gets you going.
ADOBE : Can you please shed some light on this, although i have figured a strange work around, this means i cannot use the source window like a usual workflow and i must actually import everything to the timeline then cut and scrap the rest.

Clip and subclips with audio out of sync
I have a one-hour or so clip that I broke up into about 20 subclips.
Unfortunately, the audio is out of sync throughout the hour, but the degree of out-of-syncness varies throughout the hour, so some of the clips are 10 frames out of sync, some 3 frames, etc.
I went through the clips, setting in and out points, and now I realize that I have to put them in sync individually.
I can sync them by placing them in the timeline and breaking the a/v link, or locking the audio and dragging the video around, but then I am left with a clip in the timeline. What I really want to do is sync them now, before I assemble the clips in the timeline (with lots of other media interspersed; they won't be continguous), so they are waiting for me in the browser, all synced and ready to go.
How do I do this?Sounds like the video was shot with 12 bit audio. Please make certain your camera /camcorder is set properly to 16 bit audio (not 12 bit).

IDVD creates DVD with audio out of sync
Hi All,
Just created a DVD using a quicktime .mov file. The .mov file, when played on my MacPro, stays in sync and works just fine.
However, I pressed it to DVD using iDVD and about 10 or 15 minutes in, the audio is suddenly out of sync with the video.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
