Cutting a this strip from a video

This seems like a mundane problem that may have been answered several times before. I am using CS4 and I want to cut a thin strip from a video and use that as a background for title of another video. I am not able to figure this out - stupid me. Can someone help?

Ok I have a background video and a video of a lady on the track above it. I take the 16 point track matte and cut her out. I now want to blur the cut edges to smooth her into the below video. I tried the black video track as when you do a viginette but it kills the bottom video track because there is no transparent setting. Just black. How would I do tis in ppcs6? It is as easy as beziar mask in Sony Vegas and then feather. You have a video clip cutout and a transparent feather that blends into your background beautifully. Any help would be great thank you.

I am not sure if it will work for you, but try the Roughen Edges effect.
Increase the border size, decrease the edge sharpness to zero, and increase the scale. That might do the trick.
Life would be easier if the garbage matte had a feather parameter.

Can you cut multiple video parts from one video?

Hi.
So like, I have 40 minutes long video. I want to cut this video in 20 parts. Do I have to cut every part separately and save project and than export .avi and do this 20 times for 20 parts, or am I able to mark 20 small video parts from one video in 1 project?
You know, I want twenty 2 minute long videos from 40 minutes video, but I want to find a way how to do it in 1 project, so I can put that project over Media Encoder and go to coffee meanwhile encoder is working.

Exporting an image from a video in final cut

Hey Everyone, I was wondering if there is a way of doing exporting a still image from a video in final cut.
Sometimes when I want to do this, I just take a printscreen of the video Full screened, but I know that's probably not the best quality.
Hope you can help me out, thanks in advance!

It's not that I "didn't bother" to answer the poor guy, I've been making a living. Been shooting video and timelapse in Hells Canyon, on the Snake River, where my company has a series of hydroelectric plants. Fabulous weather, great scenery, and a sphincter puckering jetboat ride down and then back up two sets of Class 4 rapids. I got my priorities. I would not have traded the photography or the ride for the effort required to answer anyone's questions.
Thanks again for your contribution to the thread and your more recent character evaluation and time management suggestions. I'll keep them in mind in the same way I will try to recall Jim's Range Check admonition.

I had this video file and I was trying to flip it to a format that would work with iMovie. It used to have the Quicktime image with it. So, I assume it was a QT file. But, somehow I've changed the file from a video to a folder.

Get a copy of MPEG Streamclip and convert your MPG file to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC). In FCE, select one of the setups that uses AIC that best matches your clip (say, 1920x1080i60). Create a new sequence, then import the converted file.
Note that if your MPG file is actually MPEG2 you will also need the QuickTime MPEG2 Component in addition to MPEG Streamclip.
What was the source of the MPG file? How about if you open it in QuickTime, then do Window > Show Movie Inspector. Tell us what it says for codec/compression, frame size & frame rate.

You don't. You can't control how other computers or browsers play back the footage. The best you can do is export a master file that plays great on your computer. What youTube does with it, or how other computers play it back is out of your hands.
Just like me with broadcast TV shows. I deliver the most pristine version I can to the network. But then they convert it to a digital file that they then beam out to cable and satellite providers, who then compress it again to play on their systems. And then it arrives at grandma's house and plays on her TV. I have no control how my grandma receives the signal, nor how her TV is set up. Unless I am nice and tweak things when I go visit. For FREE do the following:
When you get to othe part of the video you want a still shot from, put the video on pause.
Take a screen shot: Apple>Shift>4 - which will produce a cross hair so you can manually select which part of the video you want.Check inside either your Applications or Utility folder for an app called Grab. Will do the above with just a single click.
If you still want to purchase software, suggest that you do a Google & MacUpdate search. This way, you can find exactly what you want.

You can also use the 3 finger method of COMMAND+SHIFT+4, then drag across what you want to copy from the image. That will show up on your desktop, which then you can edit using Photoshop, if you want too.
You can then change the file format from a PNG to either a .JPG or TIFF or even a Photoshop image.
Make sure, you have stopped the playback, to what you want to save as a still.
Either method works, to make a still image from video.

If the crashing only happens with other peoples projects it could be for a variety of reasons. There are tons of asset references saved in the library (the location every item was imported from) and much more. None of those locations will exist on your system and internal complications may simply happen, especially with any runtime shared assets.
If possible you should consider adding more system RAM so you can multi-task. RAM is extremely cheap. I'm assuming from a smaller 500GB HD and 4GB RAM that you're probably on a laptop however. Installing RAM is still usually pretty easy if you have the notebook manual (or grab it online). It typically involves just lifting the keyboard or opening a single panel on the bottom of the notebook but it varies greatly. At any rate, 8GB RAM would help you quite a bit. If you do, just make sure you get the correct type of RAM (again, in the specs in your manual).
Even when you run out of physical RAM, Flash (like any other application) will still see more RAM based on the OS's swap memory setting (using available space on your HD as RAM). It will get much slower but Flash should see the total amount the 32bit OS can handle for RAM (it doesn't know if it's physical fast RAM or SWAP (fake) HD RAM though). If you open other apps with Flash they should also operate, but will also use swap RAM and you've probably noticed your HD crunching a lot while more apps are open.
That said, I have a 4GB RAM in my older i7 lappie and have used Flash CS5.5 and CS6 on it extensively, with other applications open. Although my projects contain mild assets and mostly tons of code. No issues at all. I just think your heavy assets are crashing you.
