Cutting An Oval Shape With Photoshop 7

Hi Gang
I don't have an option for 'Eliptical Marguee', (just rectangular), nor a Preset for creating an Oval shape to a photo. Can someone help?

Thanx dec9, Thanx John
I apparently just overlooked the RIGHT CLICK option which brings up the Marguee Tools. So I've got Oval shapes now no problem, and I choose a transparent background for all these photos. Was wondering if I could make an Oval template that would be the same size applied to all the photos?
I could adjust the actual photo to fit, but have the template provide the same Oval size shape for all the photos.
Thanx in advance for your help.
Mike

  • Because of the new final cut pro x update with photoshop capability, does that mean 3d objects are now compatible with final cut pro x

Does Final Cut Pro X now support 3d models or objects because of the update with photshop capability?

When you import a 3D model in Photoshop, it is imported as a Layer (smart object). And, yes, you can edit 3D objects in Photoshop and import them into FCPX—AS a photohop image (you cannot manipulate the 3D nature of the object in FCPX.) You can however create an animation in PS, convert to layers from frames and import that into fcpx. You can then edit the compound clip created to make use of those "animated" layer/frames. (I'm not sure how far I'd "push it" though...fwiw, at that point, it might be better to export the animation from PS and import the MOV into FCPX.)
You can also make edits in PS after the psd is imported and fcpx will do live updates (after saving the psd file, of course.) 3D objects in PS are a special kind of Smart Object, and Smart Objects will translate to Motion and FCPX (they will be rasterized as a single layer, though.)

  • Want to create an oval vignette in photoshop elements 10 with transparent background for printing w

I am fairly new to PSE and I want to create an oval vignette in Photoshop Elements 10 with transparent background for printing on white paper using MS Publisher. Using the white background on inverse selection makes a slight line impression and either it should have a defined "frame" or nothing.
    Appreciate any guidance.

Try with the Elliptical marquee tool:
On the tool's option bar set feather 25-40 px (experiment)
Drag out the Ellipse to embrace the object
Go to Layer>new>layer via copy, or CTRL+J
Your selection should fade out as a vignette and be surrounded by transparency
Save this layer via File>save for web, select PNG-24, and tick "Transparency"

  • Is it possible to cut the hair details in photoshop with transperant background?

    Hi buddies!
I  want to cut the hair details in photoshop. But i need the background to be transeperant, so i can place the same transperent image in Adobe indesign.
Pls. give your suggestions and views on the same. Pls. let me know, if there is any video tutorial is available on net.
    Thanks

    Just what the doctor ordered:
The Adobe TV site seems to be temporarily down right now, but look for titles with "Masking" on this page (e.g., "Masking Basics", "Masking Magic", "Advanced Masking").  I know he does some examples using the Refine Mask tool an models with hair blowing in the breeze.

  • When i create a circle in photoshop and import it to Motion 5, it becomes more of an oval shape than a circle in motion.

When i create a circle in photoshop and import it to Motion 5, it becomes more of an oval shape than a circle.even though the size of the document i worked in photoshop is the same as that in motion 5. which is Pal D1/DV 720 x 576.
    Thanks

    hi,
check the pixel aspect ratio in both the photoshop file and Motion project and make sure they match too. Or simply resize in Motion until round again. or even easier create the circle in Motion directly.

  • How to fill shape with pattern... and cut outline?

I have an old plotter that works great for making drawings. I can fill a shape with a pattern, convert the pattern to outlines (or strokes) BUT my problem is that the outline of the original shape remains, and this will be plotted. I do not want an outline of the original shape, I want the pattern to create the shape. Any ideas? Also, shape stroke remains part of the art (even if stroke = none before object/expand/ungroup/divide)

    aha!
    made scribble
    expanded scribble
    put shape in front
select all, ctrl+7 (masked scribble to shape)
    pathfinder/crop
    solved. thanks! sishamDSS!

  • Love / Hate Relationship with Photoshop Elements

I am having a love/hate relationship with Photoshop Elements!  Love the page design capabilities and hate the lack of capability on the print end.  Kodak does not give any choice in the book they will print from Elements.  All I can get is a #$%& die cut cover!  Is there anyway that I can order other options that I know Kodak has available when creating a book using Elements and their site.  I want to be able to choose a custom cover!  I have tried Kodak to get answers.  I have tried Adobe (impossible, unless maybe you pay).  Neither are very helpful!  The only answers I get are use the Elements designed pages and place them onto pages that you create in their software.  Problem is that one needs a jpeg file to do this.  No online program seems to recognize .PSD or .PSE file types.   HELP!
Bob, Barbara you both seem to be very knowledgable...any ideas...
Anyone with any help can answer here or [email protected]
    Terry

    Terry:
Yeah, the photobook print options are limited. (Although, the built in Kodak and Shutterfly books are very nice)
One thing to try differently is to use the Print At Home selection on that first screen after the clicking on the PhotoBook option (assuming you are using PSE8 here) (use Photo Collage with PSE7)
Down that path, you will get a few more choices in page size. It will still create a multi-page document (a .pse) while your building your book, and when done, you can print the pages of the book out as a .pdf. Many book printing services will take in a PDF.
Another option is to do a single page at a time and save them as .jpg's. A little more work in keeping your various files together and ordered properly, but it would give you ultimate flexibility.

  • Using Lightroom 5 with Photoshop CS4

Hi folks. New Here. I am a novice convert to digital photography and I have browsed the discussions concerning Lightroom and Elements in the main.
Is there any need to buy Lightroom 5 to deal with cataloguing and searching imported RAW images with Photoshop CS4, as Photoshop Bridge 4 comes with Photoshop CS4? What is a good strategy for dealing with libraries of images? I have the chance to aquire inexpensive versions of LR 5 and P CS4.
For your information - I am using a MacBook Pro with a quad core i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB Flash drive and my camera is a Canon PowerShot SX50 HS.
    Many thanks.

    Thanks 99jon,
I appreciate the careful and easy to understand reply, Jon99. Versions of P higher than CS4 are prohibitively expensive for me at this stage. If I get on with digital photography then I might look at the PCS and L CC subscription option in the future.
I went ahead I aquired my bargain basement version of P CS4 and like it so far, but I held back on LR5 until I had a clearer view of what it enables me to do and thanks for the information.
Do you or anyone know if I can sell my version of P CS4 when if I decide to move up to the Cloud solution? Flicking through another Pogue-style book seems to suggest that the latest versions of P CS and L are the current state-of-the-art. Is there a simple list of what users of this option consider to be the main, *essential* improvements of the latest versions of these two pieces of software that possibly make it a must-purchase. I am not after an exhaustive list, but just the main improvements that may make this an essential purchase after I cut my teeth with P CS4.
I am a real novice and have included the specs of my camera and MacBook Pro in my previous post for anybodies info in order to help me.
    Many thanks,
    David

  • Can you blur vector shapes in Photoshop without rasterizing?

Is there a way to blur vector shapes in Photoshop, similar to the way Illustrator does, without having to rasterizing the layer? I am working with a very large file that has been scaled from 300dpi to 50 in order to manage it while working. I will sclae back to 300 dpi before sending to printer. Rasterized images will soften as you know which i guess is ok when it comes to a blurred shape, now that i think about it. But for future reference?
    Thanks,
    DM

In the layer of interest make sure the vector mask is selected. Then in the Masks panel adjust the feather slider to an amount that looks right.

  • MBA with Photoshop CS4

Is anyone using Photoshop CS4 with the new MBA 11". How is it working and did you upgrade the processor and RAM? I'm thinking of getting one but it must work at a decent speed on the road with Photoshop. Final Cut Pro would be great to use as well, but I realize that might be too much to ask.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    For your reference.
"The laptop is really for light to medium use as the 1.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processors won’t be able to take on programs that a Macbook Pro would cut through like butter."

  • Need help with startup Sync issue with Photoshop Elements 8.0

When starting up Photoshop Elements 8.0 a brief dialog appears about sync space being filled up with options for Cancel or Proceed. This is then quickly covered up by the frame showing Survey/Show What's New/etc... cannot get back to dialog about sync space. Only way to get into the program is to click on the right arrows in the Welcome to Elements frame, start a tour, click right arrow until Go box is presented and then click on Go. Major PITA to do this. If we are quick, we can click on the initial dialog and click on Cancel or Proceed and get into the program without the covered up frame. We are running PSE8 on Windows 7.
I have shut off sync and still this problem remains.I have been a loyal Adobe product user but this Automatic Sync stuff is really starting to get VERY irritating.
Thanks for any help that can be provided.

A lot of people are finding the same frustrations. Apparently PSE8 does not let you select start up with the Editor but forces the welcome screen on users. This is a classic case of Adobe not knowing what customers want and giving us what they think we want. It ignores the fact that the majority of users will have upgraded from earlier versions.
You can make quick short cuts. If using windows right click on the desktop, select new short cut then browse to program files, Adobe Photoshop elements and scroll right down the list and click on Editor; then finish.
You can do the same for the organizer and then launch each one independently.
You need to think carefully whether you need to keep everything in sync with Photoshop.com. Several users have found problems when they have quickly used up their free storage capacity and then have to pay Adobe an upgrade fee just to continue using the program, otherwise they are locked out.

  • Problems with Photoshop CS5.1

Hello everyone, I'm having some problems with Photoshop, it simply doesn't work as it should. When trying to resize the brush, the cursor changes shape and if I click, it won't, for example, paint where the cursor is pointing at, but about two inches diagonally. Then, the liquify tool freezes and I have to zoom in/out in order to make it work again, the brush disappears when changing the size, and again the cursor changes into something else and doesn't make any adjustment to where it's pointing at, but to a lower section. It's annoying to keep working like this! According to the update manager, everything is up to date. My current OS is Lion 10.7.2. Does anybody know how to fix this or at least why it is happening? I asked in the Adobe forums and I was told that it was Apple's fault (obvious response haha), and that a software update should come up to fix this driver problem or something. I'm not sure of what this is but I can't work like this. Thank you in advance.

What it means is Adobe is feverishly working on a solution.  Apple has no control over Adobe's products.  They may make spec changes to allow for better support of other data formats, and the GUI, and security of the operating system, and Adobe is always in the loop on http://developer.apple.com/  If they can't make Lion work with their software, it is partly due to the immense size of their software and not being able to modify such software without significant error checking, and partly due to possible changes that Apple may have made.  One should never upgrade a production environment until one knows all one's software is compatible for all one's needs.  Having a test machine, or a test hard drive to see if an upgrade works is probably best until migrating an entire environment to a new system.  And always backup your data prior to upgrading.  A clone backup offers the quickest recovery time.  Carbon Copy Cloner is a great solution for external hard drives, and so is Superduper.

In using Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional I have added oval shapes to a form, but they do not print.  How do I get all shapes to print?
I am using a Dell PC with Windows 7 Professional as the Operating System.

File > Page Setup = Scale
The Scale control is what controls the size of what is printed to paper. 100% is usually the best setting.

  • Why can't I remove the back ground with Photoshop?

Here is the original HQ photo. I have used Microsoft paint and cleaned it up pretty well to get the following image.
Now I'm trying to do a better clean up of this photo but I can't get smart selection to work properly it keeps either trying cut parts of the vehicle out or add other vehicles in the shot. Also tried cleaning up the car reflection seen in the doors that also doesn't seem to working right as it just made a blurred mess removing body lines and everything. Now the clean up I did with Paint seems to be good but why can't I do it better with photoshop? Isn't photoshop supposed to be better than paint and more user friendly? Also I wanted the vehicle only and the background to be transparent I can't do that with paint or photoshop at least as far as I can tell..... Seems to me it's just to smart for its own good or either I'm a complete idiot... Someone mind helping me out here?

Since the top of the vehicle is as blown out as the sky, Photoshop is just thinking you want to include those areas as well. You probably would have been better served by using something like the Lasso Tool, selecting an outline of the vehicle (not right to the vehicle but a rough space around it, almost like a cutout). You would then click the Mask button at the bottom of the Layers panel. This puts a non-destructive mask on your image where you would then tweak the rest by erasing the edges off the rest of the mask (all non-destructively; if you make a mistake you just "paint" it back in with black).
    Thus, Photoshop pwns Paint.
ON EDIT: Note that the next to last sentence above applies to when using the Eraser Tool. The reverse happens with the Paint Tool; painting with white reveals (the image); black conceals.
ON EDIT TO THE EDIT: In order to get background transparency you must save in a file format that supports transparency, like PNG. JPEG, for example, does not support transparency.
