Cutting and Pasting Titles

I have kind of a basic, perhaps silly, question: I'm about to tackle my longest-ever rolling end titles for a feature and am wondering if it's possible to, say, compose them in a Microsoft Word doc and then cut-n-paste them into the Title window? Doable or no?
Thanks!
Stephen

Thanks for the help, guys. Looking forward to diving in...
Best,
Stephen

  • How to cut and paste long Word document into text generator?

I have a very long list of attributions in a Word document.
When I cut and paste it into the "Sample Text" area, it goes in fine.
But when I try to look at it ... either as simple text or, preferred, scrolling ... I only get parts of the document.
I can correct it by adding a 'return' in the middle of every few words.
But my document is so long, it would take a long time to do that one by one.
Solutions sought: How to just import the whole document and have it scroll, zip-zip?!

Thank you DH and skalaki, I had not known of the Boris title generator. Funny, I had looked in the FCE online manual until 'titling' and editing text ... didn't see mention of that.
In any case ... I've now found it and trust I'll be able to figure it out.
Since skalaki was first with the answer, I awarded the 'solved' there. DH's comments were further helpful.

  • I'd like to cut and paste onto my website's edit page

I am learning to set up my webpage using the host server's program and tutorials. When I download and drag the document to the correct location on the template, it stays in icon form. When I go to the editing page to cut and paste the content in there, I get a message that firefox isn't set up to do this, but that I could perhaps adjust it to do so. I followed the links but haven't been able to sort out what I'm supposed to do. More specific directions appreciated.

  • Cut and Paste doesn't work in lots of apps

I was surprised that cut and paste does not work in Twitter, in App descriptions and other places. It's nice that it works on web sites and email text, notes, etc. But, am I wrong about this?

    herbmann wrote:
I don't understand your reply. I am able to copy and paste from web sites without any problems.
That's because cut and paste to a web page isn't the same copy and paste from it. Your first post (and the title of this thread) referred to +cutting and pasting to+ a twitter web page.
You can copy text from anywhere, but you can +cut and paste+ only to editable fields.

  • Mac Word 2008 Cut-And-Paste broken with DW CS3

The title pretty much says it all - something is failing in
the process of cutting text from a MS Word 2008 (Mac) document into
    Dreamweaver CS3. Nothing gets transferred.
I can cut text from Word and paste into other text editors
(BBEdit, TextMate, TextEdit) without any problem... and can then
cut and paste that into DW... but, of course, all formatting
information is stripped - which isn't always a bad thing: this is
    Word, after all...
Cut-and-paste from Word 2004 worked OK. It's a strange thing
to have break... and it's odd to me that Word got out of beta with
this, given the fact that Dreamweaver is as popular as it
    is.

Well, I can't give any dates, but it's not any time in the
    next few
    months.
If I figure out an easy workaround, I'll let you know
    directly.

The following information was submitted on the Software
    Feature
Request and Bug Report Form for Dreamweaver
Since upgrading to Office 2008, I can
no longer copy and paste text from Microsoft Word to
    Dreamweaver.
When I click Edit -> Paste, or Cmd-V, nothing happens. If
    I do a
Paste Special routine and choose unformatted text, then it
    *usually*
    works.
Dreamweaver did not have this issue with Word 2004.

  • Cut and Paste Photos iphoto 09

I was experiencing the same problem like the one described in the archived topic with the title "CUT AND PASTE PHOTOS" (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1897601&tstart=120). In few words I wasn't able to cut and paste a picture as when I tried to paste the picture to another event the right click paste command was grey.
I finally figured out a solution. In the 'Photos' in the Source list select the photo you would like to move, then right click and select cut. Select 'Events' in the Source list (left column), select the event you want to move the photos, the event will open in the photo library mode and you will be able to right click and paste the photo.
This doesn't work for Copy. Although paste is not grey, the photo can not move.

The reason you can't cut and paste into another Event is that when you cut the photo goes into iPhoto's Trash bin and you can't paste because a photo can be in only one Event at a time.
You can move a photo from one event to another by clicking and dragging.

  • Cut and pasting clips to a new movie causes 15x file size increase!!

I'm using 6.04 iMovie. I'm converting 8mm analog video via Canopus 300 into imovie. These movies were of an action sport and very few clips are over ten minutes when imported.
I have 4 files(sourced from 4 tapes) from 22-28GB in imovie. I have edited these files, removing bad video, unwanted scenes and have added transitions and titles. The resulting files are each from 22-28Gb's in size.
I then went to make a highlight video by copying and pasting clips from two of the movies. The resulting highlight movie exceeds 160Gb's I have two more movies to past clips from!
I am aware of the "non-destructive" editing feature of Imovie. In the process of editing the individual movies and putting together the highlight movie I emptied trash frequently.
    My questions:
1.) What is the best procedure to cut and paste clips from movies to make a highlight movie?
2.) What can i do with my highlight video to get the size back down to around 15 Gb's? (I've only used about 25% of each of the two first tapes in the highlight video)
    Thanks

    Hello, Scott,
iMovie moves clips to the trash that you have deleted.....if you are not using any part of that clip. If you are using any part of it, the parts you crop out, 'delete,' will be removed from your movie, but not put into trash and not removed from iMovie's project file. If you use 10 seconds of a 30 second clip, for example, but later decide that you really need to have more than the 10 seconds, say you need 15 seconds, all you have to do is go click on that 10 second clip in your movie and then go to 'Advanced' and select 'Revert clip to original' and iMovie will put back the entire clip for you to re-crop.
It is not exactly the same for still photos. If you are using still photos with the Ken Burns effect, emptying the trash will remove the photo's 'clip' and you will not be able to redo the KB effect if you decide to change it. Leaving the trash alone will permit iMovie to retrieve the photo so that you can make those edits. Some of us never empty the trash in iMovie.
When you export as Full quality Quick Time, you are getting just that.....Full Quality, no changes from the original. Your movie is not being compressed, it is shortened because you are saving only the clips that are actually used in the movie, not all the rest. Nothing is lost in quality and you can edit as usual, except for the ability to retrieve any clips that are not in the movie. You will not be able to use the 'Revert clip to original,' now because you have a new set of 'originals.'
So, when you export to quicktime, be sure that you are completely finished with the cropping of your clips and that you will not need to add anything that you previously deleted. I export to quicktime and then open a new iMovie and import the new qt movie into that. Once you see that it plays properly, you can delete the first iMovie and just work with this one. However, it will come in as one large clip, with audio and video incorporated into one track. You will not be able to re-edit titles and effects. (Well, you CAN do it a bit, but it is tricky and you will lose some footage).
I actually make a quicktime version of almost all of my iMovies. I find that this process eliminates any jerkiness or stuttering of my longer movies. I edit the original iMovie by cropping clips, adding photos, putting in titles and transitions. I then add audio last, usually first some short audio clips to go with some of the photos, and then I add background music last. I usually export to quicktime during the adding music part, whenever iMovie starts playing back in a stuttering way. The new quicktime movie is smooth and I can finish my music additions easily.
Apparently, the latest version of quicktime is much better for the jerkiness problem, but I have been hesitant to upgrade since I am in the midst of doing about 4 iMovies.
    Good luck with your project!

  • How to avoid renders when cutting and pasting sequences to a new timeline?

I am working on a 45 minute documentary in Final Cut Pro 7.0.3.
The footage is 1080 24p and is being editing in a ProRes standard timeline (not the HQ version). I work on the documentary in chapters (separate sequences)...and then for rough cut outputs...cut and paste the chapters into a separate sequence timeline (also ProRes at the same frame rate).
However, sometimes simple text titles, which didn't need rendering in the shorter chapter timeline, show up as redlines that need rendering in the longer timeline. Which I don't quite understand unless the process of copying and pasting severs the render links...but why should it do that?
My timeline is toggled to SAFE RT in both chapter timelines and the overall project.
Can anyone offer some advice on how I can get those chapters into a longer timeline without the redline bar showing up?
    Many thanks,
    John

    Hi John,
Which I don't quite understand unless the process of copying and pasting severs the render links...but why should it do that?
Well as you noted, the titles don't actually need rendering in your shorter sequence, hence there are no associated render files ie no link is being lost as there is nothing being linked to. Do you follow me? The issue is instead related to how many of these "realtime without rendering" titles that your system can track and handle, and that in turn is related to the amount of RAM in your system and how you have assigned that RAM allocation in FCP's *System Settings...* window > *Memory and Cache* tab. In the short sequence you have fewer titles and so FCP is managing them all in realtime, but in the longer master sequence it would seem apparent that the total number of titles exceeds that which your system can handle with all being in realtime, so the latter ones will require rendering.
My timeline is toggled to SAFE RT in both chapter timelines and the overall project ... Can anyone offer some advice on how I can get those chapters into a longer timeline without the redline bar showing up?
First, I'd ask if there is any specific reason you have set your sequences to Safe RT as opposed to the far more flexible Unlimited RT option?
Second, as alluded to above, you should investigate your current Memory and Cache settings. If its at the 10% default, then try increasing your Still Cache a little (use trial and error, maybe 15% or 20% is enough) ... you should see that your system can handle more of text generator items without needing to render when you allocate more RAM to the task, but note that as you allocate more to RAM to your Still Cache then you are effectively decreasing the RAM available to the rest of FCP, eventually you will hit a tipping point so don't push the value too high.
    Hope it helps
    Andy

Hello.  In 2012 you answered a query about the following problem:
"I have had my MacBook Pro for over three years now, without much trouble, but recently I've been unable to send images that I have cut and pasted into Apple mail. I can attach an image that I have saved in my photos and it will send but I can not send an image that I have cut and pasted from the internet."
This problem started with me this morning and it does not happen when I open a test account.  The thread stops after you asked if it occurs in the test account, did you ever find a solution to this issue?  I am using mac mail 3.6 on system 10.5.8.
I hope you receive this, I have never posted in one of these forums.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Can't cut and paste in a web based e-mail service. (Not G-mail)

I belong to a membership site that is coaching me on e-mail marketing. I want to cut and paste different bits of information and ad links etc. to emails that I am sending out through the site.
For some reason, Firefox will not allow me to cut and paste when I am in this particular site??
I can cut and paste in Microsoft Word and other programs with no problem. But when I'm on this particular site it's no deal.
This is very frustrating. What can I do to resolve the problem.

I've had this happen a couple of times. Seems it just gets a bit borked sometimes.
Best thing to do is close Pages (or whatever), then do an iOS reset (hold power button then home button till screen goes blank and apple logo comes up and then let go).
Cut copy paste should work again as normal.

  • How do you cut and paste tables in and out of Excel from either Mail.app or Outlook 2011?

When I try to cut and paste a table generated in Excel for Mac into the body of an email the formatting holds but when I send the table is reduced to one column. Same is true for copying from incoming mail into Excel, when I paste into Excel it is reduced to one column rather than keeping the table format. I have tried using mail.app and went out and Outlook 2011 and both programs have the same issue. The reformatting also happens when I forward an email received from a coworker that contains a table, not just on cut and paste operations.
I need to do this regularly and right now my only option is using my old PC where the cut and paste function keeps formatting between Excel and Outlook just fine. Attaching a pdf or excel file is not an option. There has to be a way to maintain the formatting and being able to extract the tables keeping them intact. Please let me know if you have a solution to maintain this formatting within email programs. Thank you in advance.

Selecting all does not help - the issue is I need a table within an incoming email to be moved to excel, edited and then pasted back into a new email. "Select All" picks up the email headers, signatures, any messages around the table etc so that doesn't work. Also, as pointed out above Excel doesn't have a select all feature to get the tables back into the body of an email.
I just tried again going from Excel into Outlook 2011. No luck. All one column down the left side of the email. All columns are removed and text crammed into one column. Just to check I cut from one Excel document and pasted into another and it retained all formating just fine. It is only in and out of Outlook that seems to be the issue.

I'm using Lion on an MBP and Numbers is the latest version

May you give more details about what is wrong with your dates ?
M…oSoft products aren't allowed on my machines but I use LibreOffice which is a clone of Office.
When I export from Numbers to Excel and open the result with LibreOffice, the dates are correctly treated.
To be precise, dates after 01/01/1904 are correctly treated. dates before 01/01/1904 are exported as strings but, as it's flagged during the export process, it's not surprising.

  • Won't cut and paste anymore

Eversince the Mavericks upgrade, I can't cut and paste in the calandar app anymore. Let me try to explain:
Every month, I get a new schedule for work, and I have to manually enter it in to my calander app. It then sinks to my phone, ipad and work macbood air. I only have 2 or 3 different catagories that I use for any given day, and I used to just copy one catagory from, say November 14th, and then click on November 29 and paste the same catagory and time. Now it will only paste on the date that I copied from (ie it'll just put another copy of the same job & time on the same day).
Is this happening to anyone else, or just me?

    Hi,
It works as expected for me here on OSX 10.9.

Just bought new macbook. I can't cut and paste or click on links during a chat. I use ichat all day at work and need those capabilities to function. any idea on how to resolve this issue?

    Hi,
I have tested between to Jabber IDs on my two computers using two different Jabber Servers and Copying and Pasting a URL and then sending it worked for me.
At the second computer it was shown as a Link and opened the web page.
Have I misunderstood what you were saying or was that what you were trying ?
The test was iChat to iChat.
