Cutting object

Hello,
I still (!) use Illustrator CS2 (english version) and cannot find the procedure to cut a part on a simple long extented square object.
In fact, the final object is based on two different triangles, one long and one short that i combined in opposit position (do you see what i mean) ?
I do have the original manual, (of course) but where is it mentionned ?
Even asking "Help" i don't find it !

Always problems...Decide to close several times...
Using CS3 for instance, drawing one rectangle, and want to adjust the
dimensions x : y, changing one dimension and the other modified by it self
Which means, i'm not able to adjust according to "my" whishes !
This is probably due to wrong configuration i made, no ?
I think i will install simple Windows XP SP2 (SP3?) waiting until Windows 7
will be reliablr (?).

There is no need to think about transparent bacgrounds: basically, there is no background.
You may View>Show Transparency Grid, then hide it again.

Slice, cut object

Have a circle, skeich a line, cut object to line shape. The slice thing creates something, don 't care about. In Xara and Painter sketch a stroke and hit slice or cut and the object is cut to the new shape. CS5, this thing must be re-designed for artists working fast.

Yes the knife tool is fine but you can also use the pathfinder as well with more precision and the ability to fine tune the divisional demarcation. Using the divide command. that is because you can move the lines before you hit the divide command.

PS CS6 Edit commands grayed out to copy / cut objects and layers?

Why are my edit commands (copy and cut) grayed out / unavailable? When trying to copy a selected layer or object, all my editing commands are grayed out and unavailable. No idea why. Even if I convert something to a smart object, no joy. The only thing I seem to be able to select and copy/cut/paste is text in the text edit mode. makes no sense and is rendering PS unusable. How do I fix this?

Your seeing the transform handles with the move tool.
Try something like this:
Open an image
Click on the Rectangular Marquee Tool in the tool box
(just below or to the left of the move tool in the tool box)
(or press M on the keyboard)
Draw a selection (marching ants)
Edit>Copy
Edit>Paste
You should end up with a new layer with the copied contents from within the selection

Cutting object from photoshop and pasting in word

How do I cut an object from a pic using photoshop and paste just that object on a word doc? Everything i've done so far has given me a square box with white in it? Thanks

That is expected and inherent how the office apps work. You need to save the files as a PNG or TIFF with transparency and properly import them into Word using the Insert Graphic function.

Hi again.. (now this question comes assuming everything has been done right.. lighting, focus, etc..) After someone has digitally filmed a video sequence and then broken it down into individual frames(USING QT PRO).. lets say you have shot something simple such as a man against a greenscreen backdrop.. this now being a single tiff file, and you're only dealing with this one image file at a time, what program could cut him out with the highest detail of accuracy? I see adobe has either lightroom or it may have been imageready that simply paints a mark on the object and it cuts it out for you.. and i know photoshop has that magic trace tool.. but what would be the most accurate.

I plan on doing different things in Photoshop with these images though.

FWIW, I just came off a project where I had to pull about forty keys. I found the Final Cut keyer kinda weak. We were on a serious deadline and not getting acceptable results so, in a panic, I dropped five bills on the Primatte plug in, the same keyer as you find in Motion. It did an awesome job! I never quarreled with their "Auto" setting. Very clean keys. Made my deadline. Very happy guy.

How to? Cut object by rectangle

First of all, sorry for my English, i'm from Holland.
I don't have a lot of experience using Indesign, but for my work I have to do 1 little job using Indesign.
Take a look at the pictures, I have to make png's of the circles, with a transparant background (not this purple one). The dimension of these png's have to be the same as the purple rectangle (640*88).
I want to cut out the parts of the circles that are outside the rectangle, so that i can copy them directly into photoshop (after making all the purple rectangles fully transparant).
I hope you guys can help me out,

If you group the circle objects you can cut and "paste into" the rectangle, which will act as a mask, but not actually cut the circles.

Dividing Multiple Objects Below With a Stroke

OK.
I made 3 circles one inside the other. each has a stroke applied.
I created 2 triangles and joined them to make an hour glass shape.
I placed the hour glass over the circles.
now i am trying to use the hour glass to cut the 3 circles below. It ends up looking like a spider web.
In these photos the antennae is 2 shapes and on top of the layers that hold what i have descibed.

In addition to to the method Jacob suggested to hide parts of the paths, if you have a recent version you can alternatively use knockout group by checking this option in the Transparency panel after grouping all and making the objects that you want to act as eraser with 0 opacity. Like with the Opacity Mask method everything is editable directly but without the hassle of releasing and reapplying the mask between edits. This image shows the this.
If you want to actually cut the paths, instead of hiding parts of them, here's one way.
1. select as shown and Cut
2. Paste in Front (now your paths are open)
3. Select All, pick the Shape Builder tool and draw a line as shown to highlight the cutting object/s
4. This is the result from the Shape Builder. Select the cutting path with the black pointer and delete it.
5. Shows the result

How Do I Cut Out?

Please can somebody tell me how to take a photo - cut out an object in said photo - and have the newly cut object be its own new entity?
I just want to cut stuff out of existing photos...I used to have an old Photoshop where I did lots of this - but none of those tools seem to be part of this new version I have...

You have to make a selection. The tool many use is the quick selection tool. Then click refine edege box in tool bar to adjust. Then use ctrl C to copy and ctrl V to paste.

Cut and paste from one block diagram to another?

Is it possible to cut objects from the block diagram of one vi and paste them into the block diagram of another vi?
Also, is it possible to "comment out" parts of a block diagram like you can in a text based program? That is, can you disable "code" on a block diagram without removing it from the diagram entirely?

Pasting object in another layer

Is it possible to cut objects from one layer and paste into another?
I know how to change layers. But picking an object in the layers list and dragging it to another is little cumbersome

Select an object on layer 1
Cut
Select an object on layer 2 (notice that layer 2 is now selected in the layers pallet)
paste
Object is pasted onto layer 2. I just tried it, so I know that it works.

Cut an illustrator image in half?

Sorry not really sure how to ask it. I have a largish illustrator image on multiple layers. In essence I want to cut it cleanly into 3 peices for different files. Is there an easy way to do this?
I could do masks for three areas I suppose but the image is very large and its a bit of a waste. Ideally I want to keep the vectors so photoshop might not help.

By "Illustrator image", I'm going to assume you're not talking about a raster image, but about a typical illustration composed of many vector paths, some closed, some open, some filled, some not filled.

Not in Illustrator, because Illustrator has never had and still does not have a decent tool for cutting its own artwork. It now has no less than THREE separate cutting tools and they are all pure junk compared to common functions in other drawing programs:
The Scissor requires you to tedously cut one path at a time.
The Knife does provide a keyboard shortcut to constrain it to straight cuts; but it stupidly fails to cut unfilled open paths.
The Eraser should be the closest for your need, but it always cuts a swath, not a zero-width cut, and it unpredictably distorts the remaining segments. If your artwork is such that the resulting distortions do not wreck it, that would be the simplest method that AI provides. Work on a copy of the file. Collect all the artwork in a Layer. Duplicate that Layer. Draw guides

That long ago became the Illustrator-user default workaround, because of the program's lack of such a no-brainer standard feature as a straighforward cutting tool. It has so long been resorted to by AI users, that most of them have forgotten that it is, in fact, a workaround.

Yep. Understand. Illustrator is full of inefficient habits, due to its functional limitations.

Rasterization: The other workaround too often resorted to.
You don't say what version. ALWAYS state what version you are using.
Another workaround is using page tiling (CS3) or artboards (CS4) to export PDF pages that effectively "split" your artwork. But that also fails to actually cut objects which cross the trims, and masks the outboard portions. (Less wasteful than containing and masking objects that are entirely outside the trim, but still nothing anyone would call tidy.)

How to manage c877(outside) in RFC1483 mode through ASA5505 from (inside)network

Here is a quick summary of my network setup.
ISP ADSL2 -- C877 Router(RFC1483) -- ASA5505(PPPoE) -- Internal network(s).
I am trying to figure out how to correctly configure my C877 & my ASA so I can telnet and manage the C877 from one of the inside networks on the ASA5505.
With the current configuration I can ping the C877 but only from the outside (PPPoE) interface of my ASA5505. I cannot connect to it from any other inside network.
Interface connectivity is as follows:
ISP <-> C877 PoTS
C877 FA/0 <-> ASA Eth0/0[outside_public] [Zone SEC=0]
ASA Eth0/1[inside_private][Zone SEC=100] <-> HP L2 Switch
HP L2 Switch <-> Home PC.
Device IPs:

Everything is working as expected, except I want to be able to manage the C877 from the Home PC, but currently I am not able to establish any connectivity to the C877 from the [inside_private] network.

A source group or "group" is what you need to configure on the CSS in order for the backend servers to initiate a connection outbound on the CSS. It would be helpful if you could email me directly a piece of your config. Specifically I would need the "service" section in terms of which servers need outbound access as well as the content rules you have configured and the ACL section to confirm you are not blocking anything.

So what happens is when the service makes an outbound connection, the source ip address is now the vip address. When the return packet comes back, the CSS recognizes it and gets it back to the backend server.
You can also apply a source group via an acl as another option.

Purchase Order Text in multiple language

Hi ,
I am facing a typical issue. We are maitaining the material master text in English as the parent plant is based in US. recently due to expansion plan a new plant under a new company code was started in Domaican Republic whose native language is Spanish ie ES. Now when we are doing STO between TWO company codes which are having English and Spanish respectively , we are getting the error as ' MATERIAL MASTER TEXT IS NOT MAINTAINED IN ES' .
I went to particular material master and added text in ES in additional data tab. It is working fine, but now there are thousands of material and how to over this issue. Any SAP OSS Note ?
