Cutting out an image

How do I take a created icon ( graphic ) and remove the background, essentially outline the graphic so that when I transfer it to another page there is not a white box around it ?

You don't even need to duplicate the layer. Just double click on the lock icon in the layers palette to make it disappear, and you'll be able to delete the area to transparency.
You might also check the Help files under the Help menu, to explore some of the options for deleting backgrounds and saving transparent images. Depending on your specific images another method may provide you better or easier results.

  • White strip/border/line/edge on cut out/resized image (problem SOLVED)

It was all about 64bit-32bit versions.
I've installed 32-bit CS6 and now everything works perfect.
No white lines after applying/resizng anything.

We need to isolate whether you have, possibly:
    1.  Problems with 3rd party software.
    2.  A bug in Photoshop or your system manifesting in 64 bit only.
    3.  Any misunderstandings of how masking and transparency work.
If you shoot a photo of someone against a light background and try to cut out the pixels in just the subject, you will almost certainly end up with light artifacts at the edges of the subject, because in reality the (light) background color blends with the subject color at the edges.   Placing a masked subject shot against a light background over a dark background can be trouble, having nothing to do with Photoshop problems.
That said, if you're doing identical things with the same image in each version of Photoshop (32 and 64 bit) and getting visibly different results, you definitely have a problem somewhere.
What would be helpful for you to do is to develop a simplified sequence of operations on a particular image with which you can create the problems you see, then describe those steps in detail here, along with providing a small image on which to do them.  Facilitating the easy reproduction of the problem will go miles toward having the Adobe people take notice and potentially fix the problem.

  • Cutting out an image/ removing a background/ editing an image

With Sprout by HP you can remove objects from their backgrounds, also called extracting, cutting, or masking.
You simply select the image to create a preview, choose the part of the image you want to keep, and choose the part of the image you want to discard.
You can also zoom in or out to get more control over what you select.
You can check out How to Remove the Background with Sprout by HP to read more about this function.
I work for HP, supporting the HP Experts who volunteer their time and technical knowledge to help others.

In Photoshop use File > Save for Web & Devices and choose the GIF or the PNG format.
Note that the PNG has two versions, 8 bit  or 24 bit.
    Check the tranparency checkbox.
PNG (24 bit) provides the best result but also the largest file size.

  • How do I cut out an image from one photo and paste it in another photo?

Help!  I did use the scissors and eraser tool to cutout unwanted background, and now I have an image I want to save and copy to another photo.  The problem is that Elements 11 won't let me open up another photo at the same time, or let me copy the selected image to clipboard to paste on a different photo.  Adobe's  info. on how to do this seems to be sketchy.

    Try this:
Open photo B, the one that you want to add an object to. Minimize this.
Open Photo A, and using one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, make a selection of the object that is to be transferred to B. You will see "marching ants" when the selection is complete.
Go to Edit menu>copy to place the selection on the clipboard
    Go back to photoB
    Go to Edit>paste
With the move tool, position the object and resize with the corner handles of the bounding box.

  • How can I save a a cut-out pic without the white background?

This may seem like a stupid question, but when I cut-out an image (jpg), and then go to save it, it saves with the background of the pic in white. How can I save it without a background at all so that I can use it in another program like Power Point???

Thanks for the info. I didn't know jpg. files don't support the transparent background, but guessed that it was going to be something like that.
Thanks so much for the info and your help!

How do you cut out a part of an image on a photo that you have added to Pages. For example, if I have added a picture of a giraffe to Pages how would I cut out the giraffe from the image and get rid of the rest of the image

You can use the instant alpha tool to make the background transparent.
FYI: Pages is part of iWork, not iLife.

  • Cutting out images in indesign, clipping path problems

    Hi,
I have been putting images of my drawings from photoshop onto indesign for my portfolio,  after looking around the only way I can seem to find to cut them out is using clipping path/detect edges.
The problem I have is because they are scanned sketches this method produces really inacurate and shoddy results and no matter how much I play around with the threshold and tollerance this means I still have to mess around with the pen and arrow tool for ages on each image.
Is there a quicker solution to cutting them out like the magic wand or lasoo tool on indesign?
It has taken days now in in design , I have all the images already cut out from their original pages on photoshop but the white box always comes around again when I drag or place the images in indesign.
I have been shorcutting some pages and doing layout on photoshop and placing the image behind which works fine sometimes but is really inconviiant when I want to move the layout around text ot anything...... i have attatched some pictures to show you what I mean.
Thanks for your help in advance
    Leo

Well Thats 2 days of my life Ill never get back!
Thankyou very much! cant belive I was that stupid

  • Filing in an image to fit a photo cut out

upgraded to keynote version 4. Now in placing an image in a photo cut out I can no longer fill in the area surrounding the image. In Inspector: graphics 'Fill' is not activated like it did previously. I cannot activate the pop up menu of Fill in anyway that I have found. For placement of the image, I use copy and paste then move the image to the photo cut out. I press graphics and can shadow but no fill.
    thanks idc&tm

If you're working with one of Apple's themes, they do NOT use cutouts any longer, they use placeholders. Can you be a bit more clear as to what you're trying to do, and what theme you're using?

  • I dragged a cut out image from one photoshop document into another and now it is blurry. What to do?

I dragged a cut out image from one photoshop document into another and now it is blurry. What can I do to prevent this?

What is the resolution of the image that you "dragged"? The resolution is the number in pixels per inch (ppi). If you dragged a significantly lower resolution file into a higher resolution file, it could result in a blurry image.
    see below:
For further reading of Key Concepts:
    http://www.adobe.com/designcenter-archive/keyconcepts/articles/concept_resolution.html
You can determine the image size by choosing Image > Image Size

  • Audio cuts out most of the way through an iDVD image

We created a Quicktime file using Final Cut Express HD 3.5, and imported the Quicktime fill into iDVD 6 (all patches have been applied to iDVD and to Quicktime, and Quicktime has been upgraded to Pro version). The iDVD preview shows that all audio is present all the way through the end of the video(about 1 hour and 5 minutes), which means that the Quicktime file has all the audio present.
However, after creating a DVD disk image with iDVD 6, the audio cuts out completely about 55 minutes into the video. The spot where the audio cuts out is not near any chapter marker nor near any transition of any kind in the Final Cut editor session.
By the way, I am creating the image on an external Firewire drive with 112 Gbyte free, although we also tried the internal hard drive which has about 20Gbyte free.
How can I figure out how to get all the audio onto the image created by iDVD?

I believe I've found the cause of the problem! Within Final Cut Express, I found a system setting for output buffer size, set by default to 2Gbyte. I also found that the default 'Convert to Quicktime' setting is for Internet Fast Start. I increased the buffer size from 2Gbyte to 3Gbyte and unchecked Internet Fast Start, and I have no more audio drop out!
I think that iDVD has a bug when multiple file segments are linked together in the Quicktime file (because of the smaller FCE output buffer size). Note that the iDVD preview did not experience the problem, so that part of the iDVD app seems to handle multiple file segments correctly, whereas the part that processes the file segments while creating the DVD image seems to have the bug. Increasing the buffer size masked the iDVD bug.
So if anybody from Apple is listening, please fix your iDVD bug please!
Concerning the ZR85, I do re-use tapes quite a lot and have never experienced problems. I do clean the ZR85 heads periodically. However, I shall consider using new tapes more often.

  • Importing Cut Out Images from Photoshop w/out White Background?

    Hello Everyone,
I am brand new to Illustrator. I have been a Photoshop user all these years. I am trying to import a photo to Illustrator CS5 that I cutout using this method:
    http://thedesigned.com/2009/08/21/how-to-cut-out-images-like-a-professional-in-photoshop/
Unfortunately it superimposes itself into Illustrator with a white background when I thought it would be transparent surrounding the image. I opened the file in Illustrator as a PSD. But I tried .jpg as well. Anyone know how to work around this?
    Thanks!
    Randall

Well from the looks of the tutorial which leaves a lot of info out you ended up flattening the image so that the background is now white but that is hard to tell from the tutorial.
If your background is white you should rmove it in in photoshop and save the image as a psd with no background layer only a transparent layer of the subject.
Then place that .psd in Illustrator and your background will be transparent.
I suggest placing it rather than opeining it in AI.
Like such: (even my signature is a psd on a tansparent layer.)

  • 'cut-out' images from Photoshop import into FCE with unwanted background

I want to import some custom 'cut-out' images from Photoshop, but they come into FCE with a rectangular background around them. Is there a way to import just the irregular 'cut-out' image?

Make sure the images are RGB 8-bit and in a format that carries an alpha channel or Photoshop transparency like Photoshop, TIFF, PNG, even PICT.

  • Cutting out a round image from a photo and placing it on another image using a Mac

I have a mac and use PS elements ... I am battling to cut out a circular image and stick it onto a different photo... I ideally dont want the back ground hence the cutting out but I'm just not able to cut it out and then transfer ... I get as far as shaping it using the marquee tool and then it doesnt do anything further... I'm a novice at PS - Need some step by step help ... My short cut keys dont seem to work like pushing space bar to resize image or using shift to resize image??
    Help

My short cut keys dont seem to work like pushing space bar to resize image or using shift to resize image??
Those are not PSE shortcuts. If you want to resize the view, press command plus the plus sign, and to make it smaller press command plus the minus sign. The space bar switches you over to the hand tool so you can move your image around to see a different part of it. When you release the space bar you go back to the tool you had before you pressed it.
