Cutting out segments in a audio files

I have a 12 minute interview I want to cut to 7 minutes, I only want to cut out specific parts is this possible?

Yes, this is quite straightforward in iMovie '11 (which I'm assuming you are using).
Move the playhead (red vertical line that follows the pointer) to the first position where you wish to cut portion of the video and audio. Click and drag across the timeline to highlight the section to be removed (a yellow border will enclose the selected video). Place the pointer within the yellow border, then right-click (or Control-click). From the pop-up menu, select Delete Selection. Alternatively, select Split Clip - the section to be removed will now be a separate clip which you can delete by pressing the Delete key on the keyboard.
You can also detach audio from the video clip. This will place the embedded audio (from the video track) into a separate audio track that appears below the video thumbnails in the timeline. To detach audio, right-click (or Control-click) on a video clip then select Detach Audio from the pop-up menu.
The detached audio can now be split independently from the video (if desired). Right-click on the audio track and select Split Clip from the pop-up menu. Once split, you can drag the ends of the clips inwards using the grab handles (left/right arrows that appear when you hover the pointer over the clip ends). This action effectively removes sections of audio independently of the video. You can also drag across a section of the waveforms to highlight that section, then drag the volume line up or down to increase or lower the volume for that section.
Note that when detaching audio, the original audio remains in the video track but is muted. A copy of the audio is placed in the separate track below the video track. So, if you delete any of the detached audio, it can be re-introduced by adjusting the volume level in the main video track (if necessary, double-click on the video to open the Inspector, then adjust audio in the Audio tab of the Inspector).
Please ask if you need more information about any of this.
John
EDIT: For ease of editing, it's best to set some preferences in the menu item iMovie > Preferences. In the General tab, check the boxes for "Show Advanced Tools" and for "Display time as HH:MM:SS:Frames". Also, in the Browser tab, check the box for "Show Fine Tuning controls".

Why, after three months of apple tv working perfectly fine, is it now cutting out constantly and the audio and video out of sinc?

Playing rentals, Netflix, from local iTunes, other?
Firstly restart router and AppleTv after unpowering to see if that helps - may or may not but quick and easy to try.
Connection via ethernet or wifi?  If wifi are there any new devices in the house which may be causing interference or new neighbouring networks?  If feasible try to eliminate wifi issues by using an ethernet connection.

  • Opening new window when performing cut, paste and delete on Audio Files

    This is 100% reproducible:
When performing one of the following actions when editing audio files (not multitrack projects), it will open a new window with the same file:
    - Cut
    - Delete
    - Paste
This happens on new files as well as opened files.
The new window looks like this:
This did not happen in SP2. Can anyone else confirm?

    Hi,
Really??!! This solved it for you, your window no longer pops up when you perform an action?
Did you move the layouts to another location and then SP3 created new layout files in that default location or did you set a preference for another location? Or did you just rename the existing layout?
I am probably making this solution more complicated than it is, but those are my questions.
    Thank you, Ken

  • Why does iPod on iPhone4 cut off the beginning of audio files?

First time user of Apple and iTunes and iPhone4. I transfer my audio files onto my iPhone, play them in iPod and it cuts off the first 10 or more seconds or so. The files play perfectly well in every other device and player. Why does this happen in iTunes/iPhone/iPod? How to fix this?
    Thanks.

  • How can I get right and left channels out of an interleaved audio file?

Hi, everyone, I'm still on Logic 8))))So, have a question))I need to split a stereo audio file into two mono left and right channels, I could do it in audio editors, and somehow dunno how to do it in Logic...Anyone can help?

Do a long click on the mono-stereo button of the audio track. From the flipmenu, choose L.
Copy the Region to another track.
From that other track's mono-stereo button flipmenu, choose R.
Voila, direct access to left and right channels.

  • Cutting and saving individual video and audio files from a clip

I have to cut 201 individual video and audio files for separate scenes from an 11-minute animated episode and save them as separate MP4 video and MP3 audio files. What is the most efficient way to do this?

Without knowing more about your project, it's hard to even guess at the most efficient workflow.
Like: Do these clips have audio or are you adding it? What format are these clips? What is the intended delivery for the 11 minute movie?
As a general matter, one creates an event, imports clips to it. Then organizes the clips according to the needs of job, using keyword collections and ratings. Then creates a project and starts a rough cut by marking ranges in the event browser and editing to the time line. Some people start with the music, making that the primary storyline mark where they want the edit to be and cut to that.
Upon finishing, one can choose one or more of the "destination" presets. It's possible to export Audio only or Video only or both. MP3 is one of the audio choices. Some of the presets are MP4. If you want possibly better quality and more control, export the files as master files and encode in Compressor.
    Good luck.

  • Help needed with audio files in pdf

I added mp3 audio files to a multi page pdf document via Acrobat Pro and the files play fine for me when I open the pdf. My client, however, doesn't even see the audio player rectangles after opening the pdf. Is there something I'm missing to make these files play for everyone who opens the document, every time? My client prefers that the audio files be embedded in the pdf, rather than using links.

    Hi The CountryCamera,
Do you know how your client is opening the PDF files with the embedded audio (Reader, Acrobat on Mac OS or Windows)?
If your client is on Mac OS, please check out this thread:  Re: Audio files not showing/working on a Mac - solution?

  • The audio file is not recognized by Logic. Can't import audio files?

    Hi,
The audio files are on my desktop. Logic 9.1.1 will not recognize them and gives me this message when I try to drag and drop OR Import Audio File OR use Audio Bin.
As far as I know, I am using wave files (extension .wav). So what could be the problem. Here's a picture of how the files look on my desktop.
The regular silver and blue iTunes icons look like this when I Get Info:
The black iTunes icons look like this when I Get Info:
Importantly, the black iTunes (only 2 out of the 18 audio files) are the ones that actually import. Does it have something to do with the fact that it shows under "More Info > Audio Channels 1" vs. the silver and blue iTunes .wav files (which do NOT have this)?
Furthermore, here is the process I used to get the audio files in the first place. On my PC, I exported audio files from my Ableton Live project onto a thumbdrive. I copied the audio files from my thumbdrive to my Mac. Maybe this had something to do with it.
Also, as you can see, under Sharing and Permissions > there is only "read and write" for all names, so it's not a permissions thing.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply.
+Can you play them as Preview (select in Finder, hit spacebar)?+ No. The black iTunes icons play with no sound and the silver and blue iTunes icons do not even come up in Preview at all.
+Will iTunes play them?+ Only the black iTunes files (2 out of the 18). When I click on a silver and blue icon'd file, it will not even open in iTunes.
why on the desktop? it was just a temporary thing. I was not able to pull them into my Audio Bin. I tried what you suggested. I put the files in the Audio Files folder of my project. When I go to open them from within Logic by Import Audio File, they are visible but greyed out. I don't use the desktop except for testing stuff like you do.
+How was the thumb drive formatted? FAT32 or other DOS-format, or Mac OS Extended (HFS)?
+the extension is not where apps look to recognize an audio file format, it is the header data. Some audio programs can read RAW audio files, but more about that after your reply to this one.+ It is formatted MS-DOS (FAT 32).
(*I wrote all this stuff above while I was working and waiting for the PC to write to my thumbdrive again*******finally I got everything to show up.
I loaded the files again from the thumbdrive. This time they were all in the black iTunes format, and I put them directly in the Audio Files folder like you suggested. After some doing everything works fine. Weird.
    Thanks!

  • Transfer of audio files to MacBook Air

I need to transfer audio files from an Olympus VN711PC digital voice recorder to my MacBook Air and play back on the Mac. It transfers but when opens says "quicktime can't open." Can anyone tell me whether I can do this and what I need to do. Thanks

Look at the downloaded file on your computer. If it has an extensions, as in "filename.ext", then what is that extension. If none is visible then select the file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the filename panel uncheck the box to Hide the extension to make it visible.
Lastly, check the camera's manual to find out how to get audio files out that would be compatible with computers, especially Macs.

  • IMovie Audio Files Won't Play when the File is Moved

I imported a lot of audio files into iMovie from my desktop and I set them out how I wanted them in my project. But as my desktop was getting too cluttered, I had to move the audio files into a different folder in my documents, but now the audio files won't play and a warning icon is on each audio clip. Is there a simple way to relocate the files, without moving the files back to my desktop and without having to set out my all my audio files all over again?

Besides the two files you mentioned in your post, you also need to upload YOUR .swf as well. Then you need to upload your music file/folder.
Also double check that the path to your mp3 is correct RELATIVE to the location of the Web page that you placed the .swf on, NOT the physical location of the .swf.
    var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("../Sound/dreamsSound1.mp3");
This needs to be the path from the WEB PAGE to the mp3, NOT the path from the physical location of the .swf.
Once you have the pathing correct, it should NOT work when testing in Flash CS4, because the path to the mp3 needs to be RELATIVE to the Web page.
    Best wishes and Good Luck!

  • Percussion Sounds Cutting Out.

    Hi,
I'm running Logic Pro 9.1.8 on a iMac running OSX Lion.
I keep getting intermittent cut outs on my percussion channels (sometimes silence and sometimes glitchy cut outs). These are audio tracks running through Logic plug-ins. I did think it was something to do with sidechaining (Logic compressor running off kick & snare to slightly duck the percussion) but it happens whether the sidechaining compressor is on or bypassed.
The project is running off the iMacs solid state hard drive and the CPU meter shows the computer has plenty of processing power available.
Any ideas what the problem is?
    Cheers,
    Alex

I did track down a non-Apple plug-in (Ohmforce Ohmygod filter) in the signal path. Bypassing it seemed to solve the problem but I've had the problem before without ohmygod in the signal path.
Is this a "legit" installation, or a demo version or.... ?
Often demos have a builtin "timeout feature".

  • Audio cuts out most of the way through an iDVD image

We created a Quicktime file using Final Cut Express HD 3.5, and imported the Quicktime fill into iDVD 6 (all patches have been applied to iDVD and to Quicktime, and Quicktime has been upgraded to Pro version). The iDVD preview shows that all audio is present all the way through the end of the video(about 1 hour and 5 minutes), which means that the Quicktime file has all the audio present.
However, after creating a DVD disk image with iDVD 6, the audio cuts out completely about 55 minutes into the video. The spot where the audio cuts out is not near any chapter marker nor near any transition of any kind in the Final Cut editor session.
By the way, I am creating the image on an external Firewire drive with 112 Gbyte free, although we also tried the internal hard drive which has about 20Gbyte free.
How can I figure out how to get all the audio onto the image created by iDVD?

I believe I've found the cause of the problem! Within Final Cut Express, I found a system setting for output buffer size, set by default to 2Gbyte. I also found that the default 'Convert to Quicktime' setting is for Internet Fast Start. I increased the buffer size from 2Gbyte to 3Gbyte and unchecked Internet Fast Start, and I have no more audio drop out!
I think that iDVD has a bug when multiple file segments are linked together in the Quicktime file (because of the smaller FCE output buffer size). Note that the iDVD preview did not experience the problem, so that part of the iDVD app seems to handle multiple file segments correctly, whereas the part that processes the file segments while creating the DVD image seems to have the bug. Increasing the buffer size masked the iDVD bug.
So if anybody from Apple is listening, please fix your iDVD bug please!
Concerning the ZR85, I do re-use tapes quite a lot and have never experienced problems. I do clean the ZR85 heads periodically. However, I shall consider using new tapes more often.

  • Audio cuts out in long movie

I've created a feature documentary in iMovie lasting 1h35m. I've designed the 4:3 Revolution menus in iDVD and everything previews beautifully in iDVD. Assets were encoded at Professional level. All audio is in AIF 48KHz.
Then from iDVD I saved to a disc image and then mount the image and play it in DVD Player. Everything seems fine until the last 5 min of the presentation where the audio cuts out (video still plays). Otherwise the audio was synchronized throughout. It cuts out in the middle of an audio file that's just like all the other audio files in the movie. This final segment plays fine in iMovie and previews fine in iDVD.
I've deleted the encoded assets and run it again after uninstalling Perian. Still no joy. Does anyone know what to suggest other than use Toast?
It's not acceptable to me to put multiple movie files into a slideshow (I've seen this suggested) as you have to click next to go on to the next part of the movie. I also don't want the viewer to have to return to the menu to be able to watch the whole show straight through.
Help as this is like getting to the end of a thriller and discovering the last few pages are ripped out! What happened?

Has nothing to do with players. iDVD just does not handle the audio properly. DVD slideshow format is not the same as video - it basically shows still images for a set amount of time while the audio plays. The 99 image limit is a limitation of the DVD slideshow specification which iDVD gets around for the images but it doesn't work for the audio for some reason.
I have learned of another solution which I will try though; Make a DVD slideshow with multiple slideshows - 1 for each audio file, for example. You end up with chapter markers for each song/sub-slideshow, which is what I wanted anyway. In the future, I will generate the slideshow in iMovie or just use DVD SP to avoid the problem. My problem is I spent a lot of time putting everything together in iDVD and have it just the way I want it. I can't afford to redo everything from scratch so I'll just group the images according to the audio into separate slideshows which shouldn't be too time consuming. I'll let you know how it works.
