Cutting out shapes AE CS6

This will seem pretty basic but pls help a newbie learner!
I've created a logo using type and a shape (put simply).  Ive transofmed the type to my satisfaction and created the shape that is to be added BUT its in a different composition and its in line form on a white ground - i need it cut out/masked so that it works like the type does ie like a letter that can be scaled, transformed etc so it eventually looks just like one of the letters.  Adding the rendered shape as a layer just plonks a white square onto the type and masking it just masks the white square not the graphic.  How do i cut it out pease?

Every new user wants to have fun with AE right away, but please, please, PLEASE don't try jumping into the deep end of the pool.  You'll only end up frustrated because you need a LOT of basic AE knowledge to use it properly.

  • Cut-out shape from jpeg in Illustrator CS2

    Hi,
I would like to "cut out" a dollar sign ($) shape from a jpeg image so that I can "see through" the dollar sign to what is behind it. I have attempted to do this several times using the Compound path tool, Divide objects below, and everything else I can think of. Nothing works. First, I flatten the jpeg image. Then I create outlines of the dollar sign. When I select the dollar sign and the jpeg and click on "Make Compound Path" I get the error message: "Can't make a compound path. A compound path cannot combine a clipping mask with an ordinary path." I do not have any problems cutting through a vector image. For some reason this jpeg is giving me problems. Can you help?
    Thanks

You want to set it up the same way and make an inverted opacity mask.
select the $ and the jpeg with the $ on top can be live text in case you need to change to pounds or euro.
then in the transparency panel select from the flyout Make Opacity Masks then in the transparency panels setting uncheck clip if selected and check invert.
    You should get this

  • Cut out shape

I'm relatively new to illustrator on mac but have working knowledge of the tools.
What I can't figure out is how to cut out a half circle inside another shape. For example, if I have a circle that is solid black, I want to put a few curved hash marks so the background color comes through. I've tried many different ways.
    Any help is really appreciated!
    thanks,
    Justin
    Specs:
Illustrator CS3 on Macbook Pro w/ Leopard 10.5.4

Use your Ellipse tool and create a full circle. I would use the delete anchor points method; delete two anchor points so you end up with a quarter circle. Convert the stroke to outlines and place the quarter circle on top of the circle. Dupe and scale the quarter circle as many times as your design requires. Select all of the quarter circles, place on top of the original circle, select all and create Compound path, that should open all of the quarter circles so the background color shows through.

  • Cutting out shapes

I cut out my shapes in adobe ps touch by clearing the background. I save the image in creative cloud, and then share the image via email. When I open the image on my computer, the "cleared" background has been filled-in with white space. How can I truly "cut out" the shapes in ps touch the way I can on regular adobe ps? In adobe ps, I would normally just select the background and hit "delete" on my keyboard. How can I do this on ps touch?
    Thank you.

  • Using the Pen tool to cut out shapes?

Hi fols, I am looking to make a stop frame animation, based on politics
and I plan on doing this all in Adobe Photoshop (i.e move the objects then file save etc t
hen sticking it all into imovie) what I was wondering is in order to cut out pictures of say politicians heads, I have tried using the brush tool to draw all the way around the head and then magic eraser to the background but do you think there would be an easier way to do this via the pen tool?

  • Cutting out shape to include overlapping fills

I work with pattern pieces (garments). I have a pant leg with a pattern fill that has porous (wool texture). I want to put a solid fill at the back to have the solid blue come through the woven texture. I want to end up with a pant leg that has the overlapped fills, blue and woven to give me the effect of the blue coming through only so need to clip out the pant leg from the layers. I've tried soft mix, creating a compound shape, various tricks in pathfinder. I can certainly clip out the pant leg shape with and without either the woven pattern or the solid blue but how can I slip out shape with both fills overlapped? All three layers are
    grouped.

    nathay,
As I misunderstand it, you may:
    1) Select the pant path (as in the screenshot) then Ctrl/Cmd+C+B to create a copy behind;
    2) ShiftClick the rectangle path on the Artboard or in the Layers palette to also select that;
    3) Object>Clipping Mask>Make or Ctrl/Cmd+7.
That should hide the rectangle part outside the pant path.

  • Black background on cut out shapes (photos)

    Hello.
Here is my problem: I'm working with a photo of a flower. I'm working in Photoshop and I have deleted everything around the flower so that it is a flower shaped picture. I cut it and pasted into a page on iWeb. The first time it worked grate. Both in iWeb and in a browser. The second time it looks right in iWeb, but when I publish to folder and open it in a browser, a black, square background appears.
    WHY?
PLEASE HELP. I just can't figure this one out. (I've been looking in the forum but found nothing)
Thank you all in advance, Cirrous

Hello Cirrous welcome to the forum,
If you want a _transparent image_ export as gif or png from photoshop and bring into iWeb or make jpg image background same color as webpage background.

  • Cutting out part of a photo and reshaping

    Dear illustartors,
this may be a photoshop or illustartor question, I'm not sure. Here's what I want to do:
take part of a photo and cut it out - the shape isn't regular, something of a rough rectangle
take the cut out shape and reshape it, I need to move two oof the corners in to form a rough trapezium
I want the contents of the cutout shape (part of a photo) to shrink appropriately within the reshaped object... Imagine the shape is an old door, The shape wouldn't exactly be a rectangle because it's a bit beaten up; having cut it out I want to make the new shape but still see the edges, coners and panels, he new shap will be the same hieght on the left-hand side but reduced on the right-hand side - as if creating perspective.
    Is this possible somehow?
    thank you......................... liz

Thank you wade I will have a go!
UPDATE: yes that's good. I created a "sunray" using a line which I transformed to have as many lines as the mesh I used (actualy it had half the number plus 1 for the lower half of the sunray, then repeated the operation fo an identical line on top of the first but wit the ange of transformation = to 360 - the angle of the first line's transformation) and made the line long enough to get the perspective right, this I then used as a guide to move the mesh lines. The only thing I would have liked is to a) lock the verticalsin the mesh so I didn't move them inadvertently and b) if I could have moved the beginning and end point of a mesh horizontal and said now redrawn the line between these two points it would have been quicker. (I was using illustrator)

  • Making arc shape cut-out from multiple objects

As seen in the attached image, I want the red arc shape to cut out from the green logo it is sitting on top of, while also having the red arc dissappear and reveal the transparent bg. I have tried a bunch of different ways that I have read from these forums but none of them seem to work. Obviously I'm missing something. The green shield logo is made of multiple objects. The closest I got was the arc shape cut out from some of the objects of the green logo, but not all of them, and the arc shape didn't cut out as an arc, but rather as the original rectangle. The arc is created with a regular rectangle with arc effect.

That worked. So please explain to me what the "Expand" does? I only selected the two objects that make up the shield, which one is a green outline with white fill, and the other no outline with green fill. I was only allowed to do Object > Expand, not expand appearance. What is the difference between expand and expand appearance and what does expand do?
The below picture shows the result I wanted. Thank you.

  • After Effects CS6 .swf Cuts Out Early

    Hello All:
I'm admittedly new to After Effects, so please bear with me on this one. I've been working on an After Effects file to be inserted into Adobe Captivate as an animation layer. When I render the file as a .avi or .mp4, everything renders exactly as it should. However, when I try to export  as a .swf file (which is what I need for the animation layer in Captivate), the file says its rendering 450 frames but then cuts out around 380. Again, when rendering it in the other formats, I have no problems with the render. I just run into a problem when I'm trying to export as a .swf file. I've checked the duration and everything says it should be exporting completely, so I'm completely at a loss on this one.
    Thanks,
    Jason

I'd recomend that you use Adobe Media Encoder to create the FLV file and let Flash turn that into a linked file in a SWF. It will play faster and be smaller overall unless your SWF is entirely vector art.

  • Help Please! PNG cut out in Photoshop placed into indesign printing with colored box

I have cut out an shape in photoshop, saved as a png and inserted into an indesign file. When I print, a discolored box around the PNG appears. I have 5 total documents done the same way, only one is behaving this way. Happens when I print from PDF also.
I have attached an image, the other 4 in the set behave just fine. I am on a mac, printing to an HP.
    Thanks so much!

I think you are a Windows user, but this AppleScript will get the embedded profiles of any placed pngs and update the png's Image Settings profile with its embedded profile:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS6"
        tell active document
            repeat with x in links
                --the image
set i to parent of x
                --check for pngs
if link type of x is "Portable Network Graphics (PNG)" then
                    --the png's path
set fp to file path of x
--use image events to get profile, faster than PS
                    try
                        tell application "Image Events"
                            launch
                            set mypng to open fp
set n to name of profile of mypng as string
                        end tell
                    end try
set profile of i to n
                end if
            end repeat
        end tell
    end tell

  • Audio cuts out for a few seconds

    Hi,
I'm not sure if anyone is experiencing this but it happens to me all the time and it's so so annoying.
When playingback the timeline on CS6 the audio cuts out at random places and then it comes back, then it goes again for a few seconds then back again,..while video keeps on playing.....this is just random and it can happen as soon as you press play or after a few seconds and it happens when audio is stereo, mono, mp3,wav,aif, you name it.
Also, it happens regardless of playback quality or timeline render status (red, yellow or green). My computer is quite fast + 24gb RAM so I dont think the PC is a problem, It also happens on a different computer within our studio.
Needless to say that editing under these circumstances is becoming impossible/frustrating and I'm even considering finding other software to edit with! I've found others with this same problem at cretive cow http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/935424
If anyone from Adobe reads this, please help!!!
    thanks in advance

Unfortunately there's no fix for this problem that plagues Classic since release. Considering that a new generation appeared I guess we have no reason to expect a fix anymore.
I also have the problem and it makes the iPod Classic less desirable to be used as a music player than a generic $10 (no name) usb stick.

  • How do I cut out imported objects and make background transparent?

    Illustrator CS3.
I have embedded a jpeg picture which I need to cut out and make the background transparent. How do I do this? An opacity mask? How do I create a mask the same shape as the object I need to cut out? The object needs central pieces cut out too. Please help!

Opacity mask of clipping path are the two ways to do this in Illustrator. Photoshop is the ideal program for this task.

  • How to reveal the background layer through a cut-out?

How can I cut out a shape from my PS image to expose the background layer?  I will "Save for Web" with a transparent background.
The shape will be a rectangle, and a text layer will later be added to display within the rectangle.
My goal is to use the PS image as part of a Web page, allowing the Web page background to show through the rectangle which surrounds the text.
    Hope this explanation makes sense.
    thanks!

Sounds like what you want to do is what countless others do - nothing special.
In Photoshop, put what you want to show on a layer (not Background), make it partially transparent (either with an erase operation or hiding parts of it with a mask), make sure no Background layer is showing (you'll see the checkerboard through the transparent parts), and save the work product as a PNG (or possibly a GIF, but PNG offers partial transparency).
You'll also want to save your design as a master PSD of course, so you can edit the master file
This page might give you some food for thought...

  • Use Brush Tool To Cut Out Area

    Hello,
I am using CS2.  I have a brush I have designed and wish to use it like a cookie cutter to cut out the pattern from a solid object.  It is the outline of a dawg paw print and I want to stamp it out as a solid (not just outline) from the image below it.  Think of it as stamping out the footprints from the image below so that it is now a transparency to an image in an even lower layer:
    Dawg paw print
    ..........  base image
..................... background to show through the paw prints stamped out
I'm sure I have done it the wrong way since I cannot get it to work.  I've never really used paths much (except following step by step instructions), but I have a inkling that this should be done with paths.  I've played around with trying paths, but it turns my soft curves into angular lines.  Plus, when I use my brush, it looks like it is a fully closed drawing, as it holds colors just fine.
Could I get some guidance here please?
    TIA,

On a side note, pathing is a usefull tool as well but not in the way you want to use it.
When you create a path you can either fill that path or follow the path. usefull for making many thing such as clothing stitches, etc
    Example:
but when doing pathing you are basicly starting with a shape, any shape be it something you highlighted on your screen created or got from the custom shape tool.
The path uses a brush to follow or fill that shape that you made the path.. esentually  pathing is , the brush stroke path, where you want it to paint and not the brush its self.
    Don't mind the typos.
