Cutting photos? (Different than cropping)

I am scanning in old photos and 3-4 photos fit on the flatbed scanner at once. So I have several files that have 4 photos in them and I want to separate them. I know I could duplicate it 4 times and then crop each one, but that seems like kind of a waste (its tedious, and won't iPhoto save an original copy of each one hidden somewhere taking up space?). Is there a way to cut photos into pieces without losing the other half that you cut off? Just like you would do with sissors in real life.
Thanks!

Yes it will save each original

Just like you would with scissors - do it before you put the photos in the album (in this case import to iPhoto - you can do this with preview or any graphic editing package - click here for links to opthers to consider.

• Set Desktop Photo different than Iphoto version

When I choose a photo to "set desktop," it appears differently than the one in Iphoto. It is overly saturated.
I'm using a 22" external monitor when I see this, resolution set at 1680x1050, 60Hz, millions.
The picture looks good in emails and Preview. I would like to see my "real" photo on the desktop!
Any ideas?

Thank you. I tried what you suggested and didn't make any difference. However, when I got my new imac, I didn't migrate the contents of my macbook across immediately and started downloading games, etc onto the imac. I later migrated the contents across and my imac made a new account- my name with the number 1 after it. So I now have two accounts on the imac. I have just logged back into the original account to find a game (the two user accounts are driving me crazy!) and the original picture on the desktop looks great! So it is only fuzzy on the second (main) account. AAAaaaah!

Click Settings, and then Sort by Artist tab,
Hope that helps!

• Why can't I edit photos (other than crop) since the update? LG G2

I had no problems with my photo gallery prior to the update but once I downloaded it, I am stuck without being able to modify (enhance, etc.) my pics. I can still crop... yay. Why would the update get rid of a feature that makes my camera nearly useless now?! My update  is called VS98039A

• Library Module view of Photo different than Develop Module Version

I'm sooooo frustrated. I'v worked on a .NEF file using Topaz Lab's Adjust4, then Denoise then Photoshop CS5, each time it saves an new version of my file in Lightroom, I have about 6 of them.
Problem....when I scroll through pictures in develop, the pictures look perfect (noise reduction, excellent colors and contrast, the way I expect it to look after my adjustments), then about 1-2 seconds later it changes to a noisy, less contrasty and less colorful version).
If I switch to Library mode the pictures looks good again. If I export, though, it exports the Develop module version that doesn't look good. The whole thing is very hit and miss, sometimes Library looks good, then other times it looks like Develop. If I zoom to 1:1, then both version look bad permanently.
I just want to export and use the Library version of the file. Also, I cannot recreate the look using any combination of Lightroom adjustment, which strongly suggests that the Library version I am viewing is the result of my Plug-in and Photoshop work.
I've read that the initial view may be the JPG version of the shot, but I don't think so, it looks way better than the other JPG's that came out of the camera at the same event.
Help

Its possible the thumbnail is viewing the edited version that was created via the camera. Lets say you made a change in the camera such as sepia for example. When you first load the image into LR it will be displayed as sepia, but a few seconds later, it will remove those changes giving you the raw image.
In the develope module it ignores the camera changes and you must recreate the changes in the develop module. When you are done, its a good idea to save the file (ctrl-s on windows) which saves the changes to the sidecar file, should you need to see the changes in Bridge for example.

• Photo rotaion in organize view different than edit view & slideshow

Photo rotaion in organize view different than edit view & slideshow. The fact that the power supply to the computer was accidentally disconnected while I was working in iPhoto no doubt was the cause of this phenom.
Any suggestions as to how to re-sync the rotations back up?

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware of the use of theses two keys simultaneously. It occured to me after this post to just trash the whole library which I had just created for this particular group of photos and re-import the photos to a newly re-created library. I still had the camara connected so as it turned out it was fairly easy. Now that I think about it, if this hadn't been a newly created library just for this group of photos it wouldn't have worked so simply, so I guess I discovered another benifit for having multiple libraries.
I'm glad you recomended the apple/alt key combo though as this knowledge no-doubt will come in handy at some time.

• Need help The image I saw on the LCD looks different than the actual photo

i had canon camera and had problem The image I saw on the LCD looks different than the actual photo.any body can kelp me

Do you capture in RAW or JPEG? What software do you use to view your image? Is your monitor calibrated? What is the brightness level on your camera LCD? All of these information can affect your image. And keep in mind that image on the back of the camera is often brighter and more saturated.

• I am getting a "not delivered" when I try to send a photo from my Ipad or iPhone via iMessage. I can receive photos in iMessage and I can send and receive photos other than with iMessage. I have tried restoring factory settings etc but no luck.

I am getting a "not delivered" when I try to send a photo from my Ipad or iPhone via iMessage. I can receive photos in iMessage and I can send and receive photos other than with iMessage. I have tried restoring factory settings etc but no luck. Is anyone else having this problem please?

I've been having this problem too, but here's the catch: originally it was only with my dad, and only sometimes.  Now it's dad and husband, every time!  Pix go through, via imessage, to everyone else, and they go through to dad/husband if I "send as text" after it fails.
And the other annoying thing- the blue bar will run all the way, and it will say "delivered".  So I close out of imessage. When I reopen it again, the "delivered" has changed to "not delivered" with the red exclamation point.  I just googled "imessage not sending photos" and founds TONS of people with the same problem, but no solutions.  (I have rebooted phone, reset network settings, with no luck.  I even had to backup/delete/restore my whole phone the other day for a different reason, and hoped that would fix it, but now it won't send to my dad OR my husband (who is on not just the same carrier, but the same family plan as me)

• Colors in FCP looks different than when playing in QT7

The colors of the video's in FCP looks different than when playing back in QuickTime. I wonder if it can be a color management setting in FCP? I have the same problem when playing a clip in AE. I have two FCP machines, but only one of them is having this problem. Any ideas of what I can do to get the right colors back?

Have you enabled Final Cut Studio Color Compatibility in the QT Player preferences?

• Picture is different than in preview screen

When I click on one picture in the Photo Screen, it is different than when it is showing multiple pictures at once.  How do I get to show the right picture which is the one in full screen.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

• Lightroom displays colors differently than Photoshop

Lightroom (and my image previewer - IfranView) display my image colors differently than photoshop.  This is very disturbing (why can't Adobe make this simple!)!
Image in question - see below.  Center image is Photoshop, left is Lr 4 and right is InfranView.
Colorspace:  AdobeRGB 1998
Image color (exported the TIFF file in Lr, what is shown below):  AdobeRGB 1998
NOTE:  when I export out as sRGB, IfranView displays it correctly (I don't know why, it can't display ProPhoto correctly, but never had a problem with AdobeRGB).  Lightroom looks incorrect when viewing the TIFF, AdobeRGB JPEG and sRGB JPEG.
What is going on??  I've tried this on two computers now and it is the same problem!

The larger file is Adobe RGB and the smaller file is sRGB.  I see no difference in overall tone or color between the two files in LR 3, LR 4, LR 5, PS CS5, PS CS6, PS CC 2014, or Windows Photo Viewer which is color-managed, aside from an almost imperceptible change in the darkest blacks which I'd expect since you're converting AdobeRGB to sRGB at some point.
I can make the Adobe RGB one look like it does at the left of your first screenshot if I Assign Profile: sRGB to it in PS.
Since your monitor appears to be wide-gamut and therefore similar to Adobe RGB, I think the problem you're having is that LR thinks the monitor is sRGB for some reason, perhaps due to your switching the cables from one computer to the other without rebooting and recalibrating.  It's also possible that your profile is stored in the monitor rather than in the computer and one computer understands this and the other doesn't so you're getting double-profiling or no profiling occurring.
It sounds the your only issue is having two computers attached alternatively to one monitor without having a valid profile on each computer for that monitor and aren't restarting each computer to load that profile.  At least that is my analysis given the limited information.
I would conclude that nothing is wrong with LR or PS just the hardware connections and the color management confusion between the two computers, not your confusion, the computers'.

• The way Aperture renders my Nikon RAW (NEF) files look different than...

The was Aperture renders my NEF files looks different than NX...
Ok so I use all the in camera setting/tools to the best of abilities to try and cut my editing down as much as possible but when shooting RAW I end up having to tweak every images to get them back to what they really look like... I shoot often RAW and JPG combined and when I open a NEF in NX and a JPG in PS they are identical and need very little work, when I use Aperture the NEF files are very different looking from the JPG (or NEF in NX) and every single one needs tweaking (I get more redish/pinkish skin, often a hint of green cast to (slightly off WB/tone thing) and more contrast.
Below is screenshot showing the difference between a JPG (or NEF in NX) and a RAW file in Aperture

This is just a silly snap shot in very flat overcast light, and has the least amount of shift or difference of any image type so far, when I use strobes, shoot for a more contrasty image, gel for color and manual WB the differences are huge almost to the point that you would think you where looking at two completely different images and not the same NEF opened in different software.
How do I go about getting Aperture to render my NEF's more like what I shot like NEF in NX, JPG in anything, and even the back of the camera screen?

Thank you, that seems like will work, just having the boost turned down a bit on import has helped tremendously but I cant stop feeling like I am moving towards the "Fix it in post" mentality
I will need to get better at tweaking my images... No matter how I try I cant kill the pinking skin or the very faint green glow in blond hair or bright neutral tones without affecting other areas of the image.. I am sure I will figure it out but anyone having any tips or links that could speed up my process I would appreciate it.
The green is weird its like someone snuck a small florescent light into all my shoots without telling me, not major but enough to be annoying.
I shoot a ton of motor sports (3000 images a weekend) and shoot JPG and have gotten good at using in camera pre sets, knowing what I got and getting it right in the camera, I wish Nikon would give up the code or whatever is needed for all the info to be carried over to Aperture..... I would pay the $100 or whatever to use the NX engine in Aperture

• Publishing different than preview

I am working on a training video series about Moodle.  I have carefully previewed the project to confirm that everything is timed correctly and matches the audio.
However, the published version displays something much different than the preview.  Errors include:
- 1 slide displays smaller and in the top left corner instead of the full screen area, making all the highlights wrong
- images from one slide are staying around on another slide
- transitions (fade in/fade out) do not look right in the published version
What is going on?

I publish these videos in mp4 format.
I do not understand how the publishing mode would be the issue because I have successfully published over 20 videos using the same mp4 mode. These errors seem like a publishing bug that does not happen all the time.
Am I missing some kind of setting that will allow the publish to produce the same thing that I see when previewing my work?
Additional errors found with other recent videos:
- audio cuts in and out (plays correctly during preview)
- text does not appear (appears during preview)
Is there any way this could be a computer issue rather than a Captivate issue?  It seems Captivate related since I am publishing from Captivate...sometimes the videos turn out right, sometimes they have these random errors.  However, Captivate does run slowly on my computer - would that be a cause for publishing problems?
Thank you for any direction that you can provide.

• 'Play Full Screen' looks different than 'play'  (makes timing errors)

In iMovie, 'Play Full Screen' behaves differently than 'Play'  Makes timing errors, cuts off the beginning of commentaries, etc.

You can't disable tap/zoom scaling. What happens if you add a margin and disable thumbnail?
Can you convert them to a Keynote presentation (Hype?)?
One option would be to reduce the original video dimensions and add a frame/mask around it before adding into a book, that way when it is expanded, it sits at a smaller size. Bunch of work, maybe, so unless you have higher rez video, that may be your best option.
