Cutting up a video into different events using iMovie

I have just imported a large homemade video into iMovie which is just one file but contains footage taken from various holidays I have been on. Is there a way to separate the video into different events under the Event Library? I seem to be having trouble working out how to do it.

It is possible in the event library, but I would suggest that you do it in an app called MPEG Streamclip. It will be much faster and easier to do it using MPEG Streamclip.
Download MPEG Streamclip here.
http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Drag your large file into MPEG Streamclip.
Now, set your playhead to the beginning of the first event, and type i for in point. move the playhead to the end of this clips, and type o for out point. Then, use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your codec. (Note: if your original clips are in DV, you may wish to stick with DV. Otherwise use Apple Intermediate Codec, and don't change any of the settings. Give it a name and location. You can import this into an iMovie Event using FILE/IMPORT MOVIE in iMovie.
Repeat this until you have all the clips you need.

  • Cut vedio file into different frames using java

    Hi friends,
I would like o know how we can cut the vedio file into different formate using JMF.
Given an input media file, the object is to cut pieces from the file and generate an output file from that.
i want to cut vedio from X time to Y time.
If any one is work on this please help.

Why "split" the file? Just write a packet with a DataOutputStream(GZipOutputStream()), send it, and then read it back with a DataInputStream(GZipInputStream()) ...
    1. The GZip*Streams take care of compression.
    2. The Data*Streams take of byte order and so on.
    3. Your DatagramPacket handles the transport.
The hardest part is figuring out what buffer size works best for your network... there is no "right" answer to that.

  • Please help, I am trying to split a HD mp4 video into two parts using Quicktime 10.2

Please help, I am trying to split a HD mp4 video into two parts using Quicktime 10.2, running Mountain Lion. I use trim then export but it doesn't give the movie option as a format. What would you suggest i do?

I'm not sure why you're using a FAT32 drive, but using ExFAT instead of FAT32 would be a better overall choice as it doesn't have the 4 Gig limit.

  • Import photos and video into different folders

Hi, is there any way to import photos and videos into seperate folders?
I use lightroom to manage my photos and videos, but the videos are much larger so I prefer they are stored in a different location.
I can import them together and drag the photos to a new folder, but this does not create the same folder heirarchy as importing them would.
Currently I import once for photos and onece for videos, but I'd prefer to just "import"
    Thanks!

This plugin from Rob Cole might do what you're after http://www.robcole.com/Rob/ProductsAndServices/ImporterLrPlugin/index.cfm

  • HOw to cut up a video into separate tracks?

It's been a while since i used iMovie, so I can't remember what term I would need to look up in the help section. I have a hour long home movie that I want to cut up and use only certain portions in my final video. Each portion will then become a new track on the DVD that can be accessed via the DVD menu. How would I go about this?
    Thanks

There are two ways to do this in iMovie 09
    1) Use Chapter Markers
    2) In the Project Library View, select the project and then click FILE/DUPLICATE PROJECT. Do this as for as many copies as you need. Then to create a shorter portion, delete the clips you do not need for that portion.
If you are open to using another application, you can Share your movie in iMovie. Then use QuickTime Pro ($30) or MPEG Streamclip (free) to split the movie.

  • How do I put several DVDs into one DVD using iMovie?

I have made 5-6 small movies over the years using iMovie based on family skits.  They average about 10 minutes each.  I have them all burned to DVDs.  I want to be able to put them all on one DVD instead of having 5-6 separate DVDs.  I thought it would be a simple process to copy each DVD to my computer and then add them and burn to one DVD.  When I duplicate the first DVD, it goes into a folder had has 2 files---neither of which I can open and play.  Then I tried to open iMovie and import the DVD to iMovie.  Can't get that to work.  Then I went to the Disk Utility and was about to create an image of the DVD and did something I'm not sure of which magically at some point imported to the iMovie project I had created for this.  I was able to get this process to work 3 times following the same steps (although I can't tell you why or what I was doing).  But then it just stopped working for the last 3 DVDs even though I did the same thing.  I don't have to use iMovie.  I just want a simple way to combine DVDs into one DVD.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as these are going to be Christmas gifts.  Thanks.

If the iPhone is shown 'full-on' so the video doesn't have to be distorted then you could use 'Picture in Picture' in iMovie.  See: http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mova1aaa682b
If, on the other hand you have an oblique view of the iPhone (as is the case in the video you reference) the movie will have to be distorted in order for it to fit the screen of the iPhone in the picture and show the correct perspective.  iMovie doesn't offer this flexibility and you would need to use Final Cut Pro.

  • Final Cut breaks up video into many separate segments when digitizing --

I'm sure I'm not the only person who's encountered this problem. I'm in the process of digitizing a whole slew of HD video tapes and almost all of them have done so exactly as they should. The only exception is a couple of tapes that are fragmenting into many separate files as they digitize, so instead of one nice big file that can easily be scrolled through in Final Cut, I'm getting three or four dozen different smaller video files, all of which are readable and work but it's obviously not as easy to edit something like that.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how, if possible, to correct it? Is it a video camera setting that was used in the shooting? Or is it some setting in Final Cut that I can change? Or is it merely that the time code on it is corrupt or the tape is somewhat damaged?
    Thanks in advance.

When you capture HDV, Final Cut Pro automatically generates a new media file at the point of each scene break. The chosen option in the On timecode break pop-up menu determines how timecode breaks affect the capture; Final Cut Pro disregards the Warn After Capture option to avoid capturing media files that contain breaks in the middle of an MPEG-2 GOP (Group of Pictures).
To determine how scene and timecode breaks are handled when you capture HDV:
Choose Final Cut Pro > User Preferences, then click the General tab.
Choose one of the following options (described below) from the On timecode break pop-up menu:
    Make New Clip
This is the default option. Whenever Final Cut Pro detects a scene or timecode break during capture, it finishes writing the current media file to disk and then begins capturing a new media file. It also creates a corresponding clip for each new media file in the Browser. To ensure that all new media files and clips have unique names, it appends a number to the filename of each new media file and clip generated by scene and timecode break detection.
    You don't want this checked.
The reference is for FCP 5, but should work in 6

  • Embed YouTube video into SCORM (HTML5) using Captivate 7?

    Hi there,
I am using Captivate 7 to produce a SCORM compliant HTML5 course - this course includes a video, however when I have tried to upload the video directly, it pauses/doesn't play well in our LMS.  As such I wanted to try embedding/streaming the video from Youtube instead. The video is unlisted (as it is an internal course).  I've had a hunt of the forums but can't seem to work out how to do this?
Note: When I try going to Video > Insert Video, then Event Video > Already Deployed... entering the Youtube url - It doesn't work and I receive the following message: "Failed to load the video file. The file parth or the URL may be invalid. Do you want to change the file part or the URL".  I am using Adobe Captivate 7 version 7.0.1.237 (in case it helps).
    Any and all help appreciated.
    Nicole

    Thanks for the quick response!
Re: Widget - does it work with HTML5?  I found a couple forums that seemed to suggest it doesn't...
Also, when you say the full YouTube URL - where do I get this from?  I (embarrassingly) didn't realise there were two different ones.
    Thanks again,
    Nicole

  • How to group measurement data into different groups using TDMs

    Hi, frnds!
I have designed a labview program for measuring the power current characteristics of a laser diode. I want to save the current and power arrays measured at different temperatures in different groups. I tried to implement this but I was not successful. The current and power measurements at different temperatures are being saved only in the first group and the rest are being empty! Please help me save the measurements in different temperature groups.
    I need this urgently!
    Thanks in advance!
    Kumar

Perhaps a snippet of the code you are using would help. When you write to the TDMS file with the low level functions, you just need to specify the separate group names. Have you read over  the NI TDMS File Format, Introduction to LabVIEW TDM Streaming VIs, and Writing TDM and TDMS files articles? Have you tried any examples out of the Example Finder?

  • Fit video into an image in iMovie

    Hi,
I have a recorded video of an iOS app that I would like to insert into a static image representing the iPhone border. How can I do this in iMovie? I've added the video to a project, then added the photo as an overlay but the video is bigger that the frame where I want the video to be displayed.
On this screenshot, I want the video to me resized to fit into the pink rectangle
    cheers,
    Tex

You can do a close up with the crop tool. You can adjust the color on entire frames, but you cannot adjust the color on just the eyes.

  • Need sample video clips for practice using iMovie 08

Can't find example video clips to download Anywhere. Thought would be easy since it's obvious new iMovie users would want. Any help directly appreciated.

Can't find example video clips to download Anywhere. Thought would be easy since it's obvious new iMovie users would want. Any help directly appreciated.
With iMovie 08 opened, select the "Video Tutorials" Help menu option. This will open the iMovie '08 Tutorial web page. Select a video to watch. If you must download a tutorial and have QT Pro, simply "Control-Click" the display area to open the context menu while the tutorial you want is playing. Select the "Save as Source" option, navigate to the folder where you wish to save the file, and press the "Save" button.

  • Final Cut Crashing...DONT MAKE ME USE iMOVIE

I recently acquired a new camera, that I got to replace my JVC G7...thing that was formatted in TOD.
Anyway, I shot some footage, went to import aforementioned footage, only for the entire program to quit, with a popup saying it might have something to do with an 'nsTODimporter.plug in'.
Obviously I wasnt really pleased with this development so I had a look around the internet and discovered that the problem lies within Quicktime - not actually Final Cut.
Im posting here because I discovered the 'solution' to this problem in another forum, only the fool didnt post HOW he stopped the plug in from Quicktime affecting Final Cut.
Ive tried everything. PLEASE someone help me out here I'm losing my mind and faith in this stupid program. (godly, yet stupid)

*I recently acquired a new camera*
    Which one?
    *Anyway, I shot some footage*
With what settings in which cam?
*the problem lies within Quicktime - not actually Final Cut.*
Which version of QT? Which version of Final Cut?
*I discovered the 'solution' to this problem in another forum*
do you have a link to that?
Because I found this thread and it explains where that plug in is located and how to remove it.
