Cutting video into a seperate layers

Hi
I'm quiet new to motion and am stuck trying to get a effect I want. I have some footage of a sports man slowly turning round and I want a glow/flash of light to come from behind his name on the back of his shirt.
I've managed to get a good mask on the lettering of the first frame and have motion tracker following the movement of the letters. But I can't match the vector points of the mask to follow the motion analyser path.
If anyone knows how I could do this (or has a simpler way of making the effect) I would be very grateful.
Thanks

What you're trying to do goes beyond the capabilities of the motion tracker since individual control points do not respond to tracking data, only layers.
You're going to have to adjust the mask frame by frame. It's a technique known as rotoscoping. It's time-consuming, but gives a really good result.

  • Exporting final cut video into DVD.

Hi I'm exporting video from final cut into IDVD but having problems as every video is pixelated, i need help in telling me which is are the best formats and settings to set it to, we are mostly doing wedding videos, and we want the quality of the dvd to be good in a tv and on my 30'' apple screen, any help is much appreciated, this forum is great...thank you all...

Use *Export/Quicktime Movie* (not Export/Using Quicktime Conversion): then you can select whether to Make Movie Self-Contained or not. Quality is the same, but if movie is self-contained you can move it to another Mac for burning; on the other hand it takes more time and disk space.
The resulting .mov file may be imported into iDVD, which will take care to compress it to MPEG2 before burning.
Note that this workflow is good for creating DVDs with iDVD. But the resulting DVD is best watched on a real (interlaced) TV, not on a (progressive) Mac/PC monitor.

  • Cut video and then export seperate clips

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with the following:
I am trying to cut a long video (about 40 minutes) into several short clips (about 15 seconds each) and export these as seperate clips.
I have been able to cut the long video into all the seperate short clips with Premiere Pro CS 5.5, but I cannot find an efficient way to export them all at once. I have considered using Adobe Media Encoder to export all the short clips, but I cannot use the usual "drag and drop" option for all the short clips. I have to export every single short clip, which takes quite a while, so I hope someone can tell me, why I cannot drag all the clips into AME at once. Or maybe someone knows a better way to export all these short clips...
I'm using a Mac, the short clips should be in f4v-format when exported. The original long video is in dv. If you need any other information, please let me know.
I have not used the programme that often, so thanks a lot in advance for any help!

You'll have to add the sequences to AME one at a time, then you can export them as a batch.

  • Seperate video into multiple clips

So, I have a bunch of interviews that I imported in one large batch from my video camera. However, I want to seperate each interview into its own clip. How do I go about cutting the video into seperate clips?

FCP does not automatically break long captures into individual clip files. With DV media, it will do a thing called 'sub clipping'. These are pointers to a section of the larger clip that allow you to treat each element like an individual clip. This works ok except when you want to: a) work with variable speed time remaps and b) delete unused clips to archive the project.
If you want individual clip files you have two reasonable options.
    1. Log each clip then do a batch capture to bring in individual files
    2. Use a 3rd party application (eg CatDV) to break up the clips into individual editable files. This can happen at capture or at a later time.
    Have fun.

  • I imported an hour of video into iMovie HD and cut it down to a 33 sec clip, and emptied the trash.  When I save the project, the file size is 20Gb.  How can I save just the 33 sec clip?

Non-destructive editing is an important feature of iMovie HD 6.
iMovie preserves the entire copy of every clip you place into your movie in case you change your mind at a later stage.
So, if you have cut out one minute from a 45 minute clip, iMovie will have stored two complete copies of that clip. This is why is helps to set import as 3-5 minute clips rather than one huge chunk. As DV runs at 13GB per hour your project files can get very big.
One workaround is to complete the editing of a section of the movie, then export that to Quicktime: highlight the clip/s, choose Share-Quicktime, turn on Share selected clips only, and choose Full Quality from the pop-ip menu.
Once you have saved the stand-alone clip to your hard drive, you can re-import it into your project using the File/Import command, and delete the original long clip/s from the project.

  • How do I import GoPro video into Final Cut Pro X?

I'm about to purchase Final Cut Pro X (10.1.4). Will I be able to import my GoPro files? Do I have to convert them to another file type? Has anybody imported GoPro video into their projects? I believe that GoPro Studio can convert the video files into GoPro Cineform files that you're supposed to be able to import into 3rd Party Applications such as Final Cut Pro X.
If you have any advice, I would very much appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Kiki

I just copy the Gopro MP4 files on to a hard drive then import the media into a FCPX library. I have had no issues with dealing with GOPRO videos, but I am running a Hero 2 and a hero 3+.  I am no expert on it, I just do it.

  • How can I get MPEG-2 video into Final Cut Pro X?

Hello!  I have several MPEG-2 video files on which I need to perform some edits.  When I tried to import them into Final Cut Pro, I learned that Final Cut Pro can't import MPEG files.  Okay, so I went into QuickTime and exported one as 720p.  20 minutes later, I had a video that I could load in FCP.  Awesome.  Except that when I watched the video, the audio was waaaaaaaay out of sync.  So, is there a different way I could get this MPEG-2 video into a format that FCP will like while keeping video and audio together?
I would keep trying a few different things without direction, but these videos are like 90 minutes long and the conversion process is lengthy.
    Thanks!

Although I looked up the equipment, I couldn't find what kind of MPEG2. I'm assuming program stream.
I don't know why you had the sync problem with QT. You could bring it into FCP and detach the audio and manually line it up it's off by a constant amount.
Or you can use MEG Streamclip. You will also need the playback component, which is $20. Follow the instructions on the Squared 5 site to install it. Streamclip is worth having even if you don't use it this time around.
    Good luck.

  • Can I import Powerpoint text objects into CP as seperate layers?

I have a Powerpoint presentation I would like to convert to a CP7 project. I imported the Powerpoint and checked the 'sync' checkbox. In CP I added voice over to each slide. Now I want to time the fade-in of each of my bullets to the audio track. However, the individual text layers that exist in Powerpoint are not brought into CP as seperate layers. This makes it extremly difficult to time the bullets to the audio track because the audio is in CP and I have to implement the timing in Powerpoint. Is there any way to import the Powerpoint text objects into CP as individual layers?

Not possible, each ppt slide will be turned in sort of a movie slide that
keeps timing and animations. Maybe you need a ppt plugin instead of a full
    authoring tool?

  • Can I cut a video into dozens of smaller ones?

    Good day,
the effect I'm trying to get is really hard to explain,
the idea is that I'm trying to cut up this one big video into 2frame videos. Like this
Is there any action or chance that I can do it for all of the video and not do it by hand?
I've tried searching online, but I haven't found anything.
    I'm using Premiere Pro CS6.
    Thank you!

If you are covering the 26 frames that would have been shown on V1 that are below the 26 frame sections on V2, you don't have to remove the section on V1 - it will just be covered by the Video on V2.
    Then you can do this:
    Make a new sequence.
Put the complete clip that goes on V1 on V1.
Put the complete clip that goes on V2 on V2 (V1 is now hidden by V2).
Go to the effects pane Video Filters > Stylize > Strobe Light and apply the Strobe Light effect to the clip on V2.
Click on the clip on V2 to select it, and then click on the Effects Control Pane.
Set the Strobe Parameter to Makes Layer Transparent
Adjust the Strobe Duration to .9 and the strobe Period to 1.8.
Depending on the horsepower of your computer, you may have to render this effect before you can see it playback.

  • When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

When using Final Cut Express, the video in the Viewer window looks fine, but when I insert the video into the Canvas Timeline it appears to lose resolution, and look fuzzy and blurry. Are there preferences or settings for the Timeline that cause this?

Thanks David. I had to convert the mts file to Quick Time (using AunSoft Conversion software) before I could import it into Final Cut Express. And I made sure I kept the size of movie (720 X 480 with letterbox) to compliment what I set my Panaconic AVCCAM video recorder at (720/60). Even after I fully render it, it still looks fuzzy in the Canvas window at the right that plays what I have editing down in the Timeline. A friend that edits some using Final Cut Pro helped me to narrow things down to this problem. This is also wierd. If my Viewer window at the left is set to 200% to get the person's head the same size in the Canvas window at the right we needed to put it to 400%. Does this make any sense. We think we need to control the Time line resolution somehow but cannot find any options from my manual, or the help, or in the various drop down menus. Do you have any clue? What is going on?

  • Cutting up a video into different events using iMovie

I have just imported a large homemade video into iMovie which is just one file but contains footage taken from various holidays I have been on. Is there a way to separate the video into different events under the Event Library? I seem to be having trouble working out how to do it.

It is possible in the event library, but I would suggest that you do it in an app called MPEG Streamclip. It will be much faster and easier to do it using MPEG Streamclip.
    Download MPEG Streamclip here.
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Drag your large file into MPEG Streamclip.
Now, set your playhead to the beginning of the first event, and type i for in point. move the playhead to the end of this clips, and type o for out point. Then, use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your codec. (Note: if your original clips are in DV, you may wish to stick with DV. Otherwise use Apple Intermediate Codec, and don't change any of the settings. Give it a name and location. You can import this into an iMovie Event using FILE/IMPORT MOVIE in iMovie.
Repeat this until you have all the clips you need.

  • Panasonic P2HD how do i get the video into Final Cut Express.

I have a Panasonic P2HD video camrea how do i get the video into FCE.

You can't. FCE doesn't support DVCPRO HD. You'd have to convert it to the Apple Intermedia Codec in some other sofware. FCE also probably doesn't support the frame resolution the P2 media is using.
