CV02N - Check out documents??

Hi all,
i need the following functionality:
I have one template document which should be uploaded to the SAP system via transaction CV01N.
I check in the document.
Other users want to change this document but the check out (pencil) downloads the file to a local directory????
Is it possible to upload the document to the SAP system and make the changes only there - not locally?
regards

control what a user chooses (download, run or cancel)
AFAIK, no. Choosing what to do with a downloaded file is a user-preference that is part of the browser's file-handling options.
By the time that dialog box is displayed, Apex has already streamed the file out of your table and made it available to the browser.
If the user chooses to Cancel the download at that point, Apex has no way to know about it.
Joel's suggestion makes sense. Instead of simply using a free-for-all Download link that anyone can click, make the Download a conscious decision that the user knows he is making (by taking to a separate Download/Checkout page or something).
In spite of all that, if the user "fakes it" i.e. initiates the download but doesn't really end up saving the file on his client OS, there is really no way for you to know.

  • Office 2013 vs SharePoint 2010 - Unable to check out documents to SharePoint drafts folder

My company is foisting Office 2013 on us without upgrading SharePoint 2010 Enterprise. One of the issues I have discovered since receiving Office 2013 is that SharePoint no longer provides the option to save checked out documents to my local drafts folder.
This is despite having Office set to save checked-out files to the server drafts location and the Office Document Cache Handler enabled in IE9. Is there a registry setting or something I can change that will re-enable this feature?

    Hi Nellie,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to re-enable the add-on Office Document Cache Handler in IE9.
We can re-enable the add-on in IE9 using Group Policy:
    Launch the Group Policy Editor.
Go to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer > Security Features > Add-on Management >
     Add-on List.
    Set this policy to 'Enabled'.
In the Add-on List, add the CLSID of BHO (Browser Helper Object) (i.e.) {B4F3A835-0E21-4959-BA22-42B3008E02FF} as the ‘Value Name’ and 1 as the 'Value'.
Log out of the machine and log back in again for the setting to take effect.

  • Filename problems when checking out documents

Hi,Client machines are using Windows NT4 SP6 and Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106CO. Environment is Plumtree 4.5 SP1, Collab Server 2.02.We have an issue whereby when users check out documents with periods in the filename, the default filename for the downloaded file is different from the original.Eg. If a document named test 0.1.docis uploaded, when this file is checked out, Internet Explorer will try and save it at test (0)0.1.doc. This means that users have to either manually change the filename in the Save As dialog box, or rename the file to it's correct name before checking it back in.Is this an issue Plumtree is aware of, and is there a workaround or fix? Thanks.Mun

Further investigation into this problem shows it does not occur when downloading using a straight A link. Eg. Internet Explorer does not change the filename if excutable 0.1.exe is used; only when downloading through Plumtree (checking out files). This is Plumtree Collaboration Server core functionality. Can anyone from Plumtree shed any light on this?Cheers,Mun

  • Uploaded document via windows application does not show in document library, but as checked out Document

    Hi,
A windows application uploads document to a document library programatically. Although they get added to the document library but are not shown there. Only when I go to the "Managed file that have no checked in verison" I see all the documents.
This happens even though I have set "No Versioning" in the library settings. This is probably happening because I have added a few custom columns to the library.
How can I avoid this situation and get to upload document which can directly be seen on the document library rather than first taking control of the doc and then checking it in?

    Hi,
When uploading files without filling in some required columns, the files would appear in “Checked Out Files” page.
To avoid this situation, you can modify that windows application to force users fill in the required columns or just define default values for those columns.
You can take a look at the link below for more information:

  • How do I disable check-in/check-out on a SP2013 query that is pulling from multiple document libraries

Some of the document libraries I am using need to have publishing enabled and some do not. But the query (for most recently updated documents in the site) shouldn't let the user check-out any documents (only see them in read-only mode).

    Hi,
Is the query in search? Could you provide a screen shot about it ?
Did users click view library button to check out document? Could you provide more details about it?
    Thanks,

    Hi KRISHNA,
Please try to move out the particular file from the SharePoint Drafts folder, then check in the file again.
And make sure you are not using a system admin account or other account that does not match the local user account.

  • Collab 4.1 on g6 windows 2003 check out not working

I am currently unable to check out documents from collab. We can downolad and even check-in, but not check out. I receive an error popup from IE that the the site is not available or cannot be found and to try again later. The portal base portal.xxx.com is listed. There is nothing in spy which leads me to believe that it may be security issue. This is an SSL installation and I have already imported the portal cert. Anyone experienced this?
    Thanks!

  • Items greyed out after upgrading and migrating to Sharepoint 2013 - Open and Check Out + Manage Document Option

    Hi there,
Following a migration to SharePoint 2013, the follow options have been disabled (Open and Check out + Manage) (see below). These are critically important functions and make it very hard to make SharePoint a useable interface. Any guidance on how to resolve
these issues is greatly appreciated. This is not a branded website, and there has been no changes made to the standard interface.
    Kind regards
    Jarrad Koppen

I'm not sure what the easiest way is either.  First, I would try to create a new site collection with a new library and see if you get the same behavior.  If not, then its something in the upgrade process.  If it does that also would point
to something being wrong in the way that javascript is being executed.
If it is happening everywhere I suspect you'll have to start tracing javascript using something like IE developer's toolbar to see why the status on those buttons isn't changing when you select a document.  I'm not sure what else to suggest.

  • Opening/Saving documents from SharePoint 2013 in Firefox/Chrome bypasses Check Out and Check In

My clients have an Office365 installation with SharePoint 2013.
When I navigate to the site in IE and click on a checked-in document, it opens in Microsoft Word with a message
Server document  To modify this document you must check it out
with a Check Out button alongside.
However, if I navigate with Firefox or Chrome and click on the same link, it just downloads the document to the browser's default download location.  If I then open the document in Word, there is no
Server document warning and it is entirely writeable and it's also lost its link to the document library.
Is the work-around for this that one cannot use Firefox or Chrome with SharePoint, or is there some setting in these browsers that will bypass the download and load the document directly into Word?
    Thanks
    Edward

Does anyone have a better fix for this?  We are attempting to launch support for a second browser - Chrome - but because of the issue with Office 2010 on the clients, the protocol handler from Chrome fails to connect the requested document directly
to the MS Office app, but rather downloads the file.  IE Tab is not an option because it then defeats the purpose of having Chrome altogether since it simply uses IE8's engine.  IE8's performance with large lists on SharePoint 2013 as well as the
HTML5-based functionality is simply dreadful which is the primary driver for an alternative browser.
We are aware installing Office 2013 on a machine fixes it, but that is not an option due to the current licensing.
Hope for Chrome 31?  Firefox seems to work fine in our testing, but the organization wants to go Chrome instead of FF.

  • How do I disable Check out dialog when opening Documents from SharePoint 2010

    Hi
When I open a pdf document form a SharePoint Server 2010 in the client application (Adobe Reader X) I'm always promted to check out the document to be able to edit it. However in most cases I just want to view the document and the promt is a hinderance for most of the users. I can think of two possible solutions but I can get either of them done:
    1. Disable the check out promt in Acrobad Reader
    2. Make sure documents are always opened in the Browser (not in client application)
We configured everything right form the SharePoint point of view. What do I need to configure to achive either of the above things in Acrobat Reader?
    Lucas

I'm still looking for an answer to this post. Any ideas?

  • Unable to check-in/out document on my Workspace

I am a workspace coordinator/owner. I uploaded a document to my workspace. I have no ability to check-out/in the document. The menu options are grayed out.
it is not clear where we are supposed to report issues - is this the correct forum?

The information posted in this thread has been helpful. My original question has been answered and I now have a deeper understanding of how this functionality works.
I'm not sure if you are interested in general feedback, but if you are: I like that the web-edit automatically checks the document out for you. I also like that when you upload a document of the same name, it automatically updates and versions the document. The functionality is very smart in these ways. As a user who has used different enterprise collaboration software in the past, it was almost confusing to use. I was expecting to manually save, check-out, modify the changes offline, then check-in my changes. Following this approach, I was also expecting that when I did a manual check-in, the system would prompt me to upload the new file. Overall, I really like the versioning/editing features in the workspace. Web-edit is nicely integrated and automatic. Coming from past systems where web-edit has not been as reliable and the overall editing process has been more manual, this is user-friendly. It can be a little confusing, though, at first if you are used to doing this differently.

  • "This document could not be checked out." SharePoint 2010 checkout action using IE8

I am setting up a two-server farm, and most everything works, except the checkout action for a document.  This problem occurs in both site collections, one of which requires checkout, and the other does not.
Here are the options I've tried:
Snow Leopard, Firefox 3.0.1 - works
    Snow Leopard, Safari - works
    Win 2003, IE 7 - works
    XP, Firefox - works
XP, IE 8 - "This document could not be checked out.  You may not have permission to check out the document or it is already checked out or locked for editing by another user."
In IE8, I am able to open a document as read only then use the button presented by Word to check out the document.  I cannot use that as a workaround, as not all users have a version of Office that will allow checkout in that way.
Checkin works fine.  I need to resolve the checkout error.

I was having the same problem mentioned here. I noted that this problem only appears when I use the FQDN in the URL ex 'http://hostname.domain.com/default.aspx'. If I access the Sharepoint site using the URL 'http://hostname/default.aspx', then
I do not have any problems checking files in or out.
I ran into this same error pattern when trying to do a document edit (library is set to force a check out), or do a direct check out via the ribbon menu or item context menu.  Oddly enough when we would use the 'Edit Properties' ribbon button (which forces
a check out) we did not get an error and the document's status would change to 'checked out'.  Below are the two messages we would receive when trying to do a check out:
IE error message - "This document could not be checked out. You may not have permission to check out this document or it is already checked out or locked by another user." - Click OK
IE Error message - "The document could not be opened for editing. A Microsoft SharePoint Foundation compatible application could not be found to edit the document." - Click OK
After trying several different suggestions I realized that I wasn't having the problem when I was accessing the site locally via FQDN but only when I was using the Public Site URL (via https).  Turns out we were getting the error because we did not have
an AAM currectly setup.  Once I changed our AAM for the Internet zone with the Public URL value instead of the FQDN the error went away.
Hope this helps anyone else trying to track this down.  Oh and this was SP2010 w/SP1 (Patch version 14.0.6106.5001) on Win2008 R2 with clients running both Win7 and WinXP using IE8.
