CVI 2010 SP1 Graph Control Resizing Following Panel Resizing Bug

Steps to duplicate:
- In a running application, compress a panel containing a graph control with a top x-axis down to some very small size.
- Re-expand the panel.
Observed behavior:
- Graph control is drawn abnormally large (larger than panel size; abnormally large fonts).
- This is only seen with graphs with top X axes.

Hello -
I'm not able to reproduce what you're seeing.  Could you please post a small example project that reproduces what you're describing?
Thanks -

  • Labwindows cvi 2010 sp1 Device drivers

    Hi all
I am trying to install cvi 2010 sp1 and it is asking for the Device Drivers for the program, where can I find the drivers for the sp1.
    To finish installing
I have some older drivers but what is the latest for sp1
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Iriddick,
You can choose to not install the Device Drivers with CVI and you will not get that window.  You can also cancel installing the Device Drivers without cancelling the CVI installation.  If you would like to install the Device Drivers, you can find the latest version by searching for "device drivers" at the ni.com main page.  The current latest version is the NI Device Drivers 2011.08.

  • Does the CVI 2010 SP1 download link work?

The file downloaded from the SP1 link seems to be the non serviced pack version. After the "install" which proceeded way too quickly, the Help >>About still shows LW/CVI 2010 Version 10.0.0(360). Am I missing something or am I just too early?

Wolfgang - you just beat me to it   They should be updated now.
blakney - Service Pack updates will only be available through Update Service 2.0, and they will actually not be available through Update Service 2.0 for another month or so.  There are some issues we're still trying to work out to make sure the Update Service experience is good for everyone.

  • CVI 2010 SP1 Crash

    Hallo,

In the past I had the same problem and thanks to NI support I solved it.
As explained here I had to remove some of the listed import library I had previously included.
As a matter of fact in the document I linked there is
The base version of LabWindows/CVI includes these import libraries, and LabWindows/CVI automatically loads these libraries when it starts up and searches them to resolve references at link time. Thus, you do not have to include these libraries in your project.

    performance

    You wild guess is correct.
The version of the Microsoft SDK that shipped with CVI 9.0 included a definition of __null that matched the definition that is in sal.h. You can find this definition in line 448 of CVI90\sdk\include\specstrings.h.
The version of the Microsoft SDK that shipped with CVI 2010 included a definition of __null that no longer matches the definition that is in sal.h. You can find this definition in line 575 of CVI2010\sdk\include\spectstrings_strict.h. This is why the CVI compiler complains when it finds the sal.h definition.
The SDK that ships with CVI has been customized to make sure that it works with the CVI compiler. But this does not include making sure that it also works with VC headers. In general, there's no way to guarantee that VC headers can be compiled in CVI, since these headers don't ship with CVI and cannot be customized.
In this particular case, you might get it work if you include sal.h before you include windows.h. But there are no guarantees.

  • OneNote 2010 SP1 (from Pro Plus 32bit MAK Volume Download) Activation Issue

    Hi There,
I have been working on Microsoft Office App-V Sequencing and have successfully managed to sequence both Project Pro 2010 SP1 and Visio Pro 2010 SP1.
We have had an external company handle the sequencing for the main Office Pro Plus 2010, however they have since informed us that it didn't include either OneNote or Office Picture Manager.
I have been working on trying to sequence OneNote 2010 out of the Office Professional Plus 32 bit 2010 SP1 MAK Volume Download following the steps in the Microsoft Guide as well as StealthPuppys' guide. Basically:
    1) Extract the iso to a folder
    2) Install the Microsoft Sequencing Kit on the sequencing machine
    3) Install both x64 and x86 App-V Deployment Kits
    4) Go to the x64 (64 bit sequencing machine) through command prompt and do the 'msiexec /i OffVirt.msi ADDLOCAL=OSpp,OSpp_Core,OSppWoW64 PIDKEYS=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX USEROPERATIONS=1'
    5) Start the sequencer, add the Exclusion items for the Office Software Protection Plan and Windows
    6) Carry out a custom install selecting only OneNote and the Office Shared Files to install
    7) Finish the sequence and copy the programs to the shared drive
    8) Deploy the application
    9) On the target machine which has the Deployment kit added command prompt to the folder and run ''msiexec /i OffVirt.msi ADDLOCAL=OSpp,OSpp_Core,OSppWoW64 PIDKEYS=(Project MAK);(Visio MAK);(Office MAK) USEROPERATIONS=1'
    10) Download the packages through the App-V Tool
OneNote launches but then freezes saying 'Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 cannot verify the licence for this product. You should repair the Office program by using Control Panel' and the program force closes.
I have also tried using a custom config.xml to during  the sequencer (which I did for both Visio and Project) with the first line set to <Configuration Product="ProPlus"> and also tried "OneNote" and at the installer section
used an elevated command prompt to navigate to the office folder and run 'setup.exe/config c:\office\config.xml' and this also did not work.
This and Office Picture Manager are the last of the App-V programs left to sequence for deployment in a new SOE for a client so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind Regards

You will need to open the Office package and add OneNote. Adding OneNote as a separate package won't be supported or work as expected.

  • Labwindows CVI 2010 and GetProcessAddress()

I am using Labwindows CVI 2010 v10.0.1 after upgrading from version CVI 2010 v10.0.0. After the upgrade, I have a compile error from a statement that compiles just fine in the previous version. The error is:
"Operands of = have illegal types 'pointer to __stdcall int function(int, pointer to char, pointer to char, pointer to char, int, pointer to char, pointer to char)' and 'FARPROC'."
What causes this error is the following statement in the code:
    my_FP = GetProcAddress(dll_handle, "DLL_FUNCT");
and the definition of my_FP is:
    int __stdcall (*my_FP)(int x, char y[], char z[], char *m, int g, char A[], char B[]);
(function names and parameters have been changed for simplicity)
As I said, this line compiles just fine in 10.0.0, but not in 10.0.1. Is there a specific update to the compiler that will cause this error? What can be done to fix this?
Thank you very much for your time and help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You're correct. This was caused by a change in CVI Windows SDK headers that took place in version 2010 SP1. The change was associated with bug fix #275934. Unfortunately, this bug fix introduced this undesirable side effect of requiring a cast for any function that returns a FARPROC function poinrter (such as GetProcAddress). Upon further reflection, this side effect is unacceptable, and needs to be corrected in the next release. This is being tracked internally with bug ID #336341.
I'm really sorry for this inconvenience. Until the problem is resolved, using the typedef & cast solution that you already implemented is a valid workaround.
An alternative workaround, in case you're worried about other projects, or other functions, where this error might also pop up, is to edit CVI2010\sdk\include\windef.h and replace the following FARPROC definitions (in lines 226 and 230, respectively):
    typedef INT_PTR (FAR WINAPI *FARPROC)(void);
    typedef int (FAR WINAPI *FARPROC)(void);
    with:
    typedef INT_PTR (FAR WINAPI *FARPROC)();
    typedef int (FAR WINAPI *FARPROC)();
Doing this will avoid the problem throughout a given installation of CVI.

Not recently, but what I would say is that CVI 2010 SP1 was installed after my VS2008 installation, so it ought to be in the right order.... When I get a moment I'll reinstall the CVI runtime and see what happens. Its not critical that I get this fixed, as the project in question is so small, and as the important parts are almost competely ANSI C, it should be really easy to reconstruct in C# anyway. I'll let you know what happens anyway

  • Upgrade From Exchange 2010 SP1 to SP3 - Schema Upgrade Question

    Hello,
We're currently running Exchange 2010 SP1 in our environment and want to upgrade to SP3.  I just had a couple of questions related to preparing AD for this new SP that I was hoping that someone could answer.
    Setup
We have a single forest with two domains within it (A and B for example).  The schema master is in Domain A but this domain doesn't contain any Exchange 2010 servers.  Domain B contains our 2010 CAS and Mailbox servers.
Both domains have Windows 2003 SP2 domain controllers.
I understand that before I proceed with the upgrade to SP3, I first need to update the AD schema on our schema master. I was planning on doing the following :
Log onto an existing Windows 2008 R2 64 bit "member" server in domain A (containing the schema master) with an account which is a member of the Schema Admins and Enterprise Admins groups.
    Run SETUP.EXE /PrepareAD.
Do I need to also run SETUP.EXE /PrepareDomain on domain A as well or does the /PrepareAD sort this out ?
I was then going to turn my attention to domain B (which contains the 2010 CAS and Mailbox servers) and do the following :
Log onto an existing Windows 2008 R2 64 bit 2010 Mailbox server with an account which is a member of the Domain Admins and Enterprise Admins groups.
    Run SETUP.EXE /PrepareDomain
Is this the correct procedure to follow ?  I assume that I can then go ahead and start to upgrade the Exchange 2010 SP1 servers in the following sequence :
    CAS\HUB Server(s)
    Mailbox Server(s).
Clarification on the AD upgrade steps would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mark

  • TDMS functions much slower in CVI 2010

    Hello everyone.
Today I noticed that at least some TDMS functions are much slower in CVI 2010 compared to CVI 2009 SP1 and prior. I have created and attached a simple sample project that creates a TDMS file with about 3000 file level properties and tries to read it back in afterwards. On all releases prior to 2010, this needs less than 10 seconds. On 2010 it's around an hour, if not more! Unfortunateky this is pretty much a show-stopper for me. Any comments?
    Thanks, Marcel

    tdmsTimingTest.zip ‏3 KB

    Hello Marcel -
What you've reported is actually a known issue, and is unfortunately considered to be expected behavior.  Let me try to explain:
There was a relatively large refactoring of the underlying TDMS code in LabWindows/CVI 2010.  This refactoring was intended to more closely align our internal implementation to that of LabVIEW.  As a result of this refactoring, we were able to address some internal issues we had previously been unable to address, as well as more correctly handle the data stored in the TDMS file.  Unfortunately, this refactoring unmasked a performance issue that had always been present when reading a large number of properties one at a time.
This performance issue was not uncovered for LabWindows/CVI 2010 because we had previously focused our performance testing on reading and writing data to a file, not metadata.  We considered it unlikely that a customer would have more than dozens of properties for any one channel or group or file, and as a result, the performance issues you've reported were overlooked.
However, we did recently find the performance issues you've reported.  As a result, there will be a handful of undocumented functions for returning all (or a subset of) properties on a channel, group, or file in LabWindows/CVI 2010 SP1.  This will allow for performance in line with what you'd seen in LabWindows/CVI 2009 SP1 and earlier, as long as you are OK with grabbing all the properties at once.  These functions are undocumented because, in general, we don't release new features with service packs.  Also, the functions are a little more difficult to use than normal CVI APIs, so we have not yet determined how or when they will be publicly documented.  When LabWindows/CVI 2010 SP1 releases (later this summer), feel free to reply back to this post or send me a private message, and I'll work with you on the details of calling these undocumented functions.
Out of curiosity, we'd like to know your use case for creating that many properties.  You're the first customer we've encountered using such a large number of properties, and we'd like to ensure that we are able to satisfy your use case in future versions of the API.
Thanks for the report, and I'm sorry for any inconvenience this has caused,
    NickB

  • LabVIEW 2010 SP1: "Controls" pop-up palette "Select a control..." bug?

I'm using LabVIEW 2010 SP1 (32-bit) and I noticed today that I cannot place my custom controls on a VI's front panel when I use the "Select a Control..." option on the "Controls" pop-up palette. I'm wondering if anyone else is having this same problem?
    Steps to reproduce the problem:
    1) Create a custom control, or download/save the attached custom control "Machine State.ctl" (< a strictly-typed enum control).
    2) Open a VI (new or existing).
2.1) If the "Controls" palette is visible (pinned open), close it.
    3) Right-click with the mouse on the VI's front panel window to display the "Controls" pop-up palette.
Note: DO NOT use the "Controls" option in the "View" menu here.
Note: DO NOT pin open the Controls pop-up palette at this point.
See my comments below in the "Notes" section.
    4) "Controls" palette > "Select a Control..." option
    5) Using the "Select the Control to Open" dialog, browse to, select and open the custom control file (e.g., "Machine State.ctl").
At this point the on-screen cursor should show the outline of an instance of the custom control I just opened, but for me that doesn't happen; all I see is the "+" crosshair cursor, and left-clicking with the mouse on the front panel does not place an instance of the custom control on the front panel.
    Notes:
    * In step 3) above, if I open the VI's "View" menu and select the "Controls" option, or if I pop-up the "Controls" palette and pin the palette to keep it open, I can successfully use the "Select a Control..." option to browse to, select, open, and place an instance of my custom control on the VI's front panel. The failure only occurs when I use the "Select a Control..." option on the pop-up (unpinned) version of the Controls palette.
    * I can successfully drag-and-drop an instance of a custom control onto a VI's front panel from a Windows Explorer window, or from the LabVIEW project explorer window.
    * The host computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 w/ SP1.

    MachineState.ctl ‏5 KB

Just now I tried creating and using controls on five different computers, each running Windows 7 Enterprise x64 w/ SP1.
On three of the systems the problem did not occur; I was able to place a user-defined control on the front panel using the "Select a control..." option on the controls palette.
On two of the systems the problem still occurs. Upon further investigation, however, I learned that the hard drives in these two systems were cloned from a "master" hard drive image the IT department created. So I'm guessing there's some bad mojo on the master hard drive image, and that's what's caused this problem to show up on these two systems (and others).
So for now, I'm just going to put up with having to use the old "drag-and-drop" method for placing user-defined controls on the VIs. Thanks for your feedback and assistance with this.

  • Using Excel with Visual C++ 6.0 (need a graph control that behaves as much like the one in CVI as possible)

I hate to beat this to death but I was unable to find a
clear answer to this question.  Does NI provide Excel control from within
    Visual C++ 6.0?
I read that NI supports the ANSI-C library only for Visual C++ 6.0 users:
Thread : "Re: Benifits of using measurment
    studio for VC++ 6.0?"
    NI REP : drohacek
Quote  : "we made the decision to support Visual
C++ 6.0 users only through the ANSI-C interface and not through the Measurement
    Studio MFC-based class libraries."
If there is a suggested way of controlling Excel from within Measurement Studio
for Visual C++ 6.0 then I’d love to know it.
If not, can a plain statement be made basically stating that if you want
to control Excel you can’t use a Visual C++ 6.0 environment even with Measurement
    Studio support?
With .NET of course you can just decide to have Excel support added during
project creation.  CVI can act as an ActiveX server and easily control
Excel just by building off the examples shipped with CVI.  I see that
there is support, using the Measurement Studio for Visual C++ 6.0 Project Wizard,
for taking existing CVI projects and converting them to Visual C++ 6.0 projects
or for calling CVI libraries from a .dll from within Visual C++ 6.0.  I suppose I could do the work
in CVI and then convert the project but I'm so deeply tied into all my MFC calls that I don't see
how I can cleanly include the CVI libraries into my existing VC++ 6.0 projects.
What I'm really after here is a visual graph control like the one in CVI that I
can use from Visual C++ 6.0.  I purchased a 3rd party graph control for use
in VC++ 6.0 that works well but isn't really visual.  I mean you can't
enter any values in it until you run the program and fill it out programmatically.
Then you can see which columns are two narrow, quit the program, adjust the
column width of your now empty control, and repeat, until you get the thing
looking the way you want.  If I could call into Excel from within Visual
C++ 6.0  the way I do from within .NET
then I could use Excel to hold the table and just read in the values into my table
control at run time.  Basically I'd use Excel as a visual development tool
    for all my tables.
I do all my coding from within CVI and Measurement Studio for Visual C++
6.0.  I'd use CVI for everything if I didn't depend so heavily on certain
outside controlled C++ .dll's.  Could you please suggest then what I can
do to get Excel support for Visual C++ 6.0?
    Last question :
Is there any plan to ever have a NI table control like the CVI table control for
use in Visual Studio?  One that you can
completely set up before you do any compiling?
I imagine that the way Microsoft sets up their environment makes this idea impossible.  Otherwise someone would
have come up with a truly “visual” table control before now.
    Thanks,

    Hello Grant
You can most certainly use Excel with VC++ 6.0. Measurement Studio won't provided you with any classes to talk to Excel in VC++ 6.0. This is because Excel allows control via Automation and you can use its automation API to do anything you need with Excel. This is what CVI uses as well.
You can see this MSDN article on how to set this up. This mentions VC.NET, but it should work the same way.
Here is one that talks about VC 6.0 and Excel.
Here is a code project article about this.
Even with .NET, you have to do thru the Excel Automation support. Excel started shipping with Primary Interop Assemblies (PIA) which are .NET wrappers about the Excel Automation object model. C++ Automation is definetely not as nice as .NET, BTW
See this document for more information about the Excel object model.
I would not recommend using the CVI Excel libraries if all you want to use them for is Excel automation. You will end up creating un-necessary dependencies and go through extra layers that way. You can make calls straight to Excel from VC++ without requiring CVI.
One quick observation about your excel approach. If you decide to use Excel as your table, you might be requiring everyone who uses your application to have Excel installed on their machines. Just wanted to make sure this was acceptable to you.
Have you looked at the Datagrid Activex control, which is one of the common controls that ships with Visual Studio? You can add it to Visual Studio by right-clicking and picking it from the list of installed activex control. If you have not already, you should check it out.
Microsoft has made significant improvements in the number of controls they provide with .NET. They have a Datagrid control that seems to be what you need.
Measurement Studio did add some high level classes for Excel and Word Automation that simplify some common tasks, but these exists for VS 2003 C++ and VS 2005 C++, not for VC 6.0. Underneath, we end up using the same Excel automation classes, so you can easily setup something similar for VC 6.0. Plus you can find alot of references online on how to use the Excel Automation object model with C++.
We currently have no plans in Measurement Studio to create a table control unfortunately. I am assuming when you said graph, you actually meant table, since Measurement Studio already  provides a ActiveX graph controls for VC++ 6.0 that is very similar to the CVI graph.
On a side note, VC++ 6.0 is really really old. Have you considered upgrading?
    To summarize
    - Yes, you can use Excel with Vc++ 6.0 without mstudio.
    - Try using the Datagrid Activex control if you just need a table.
    - Measurement Studio provides high-level excel and word classes for VC++ 6.0
    - Measurement Studio provides a graph control for VC++ 6.0 which is very similar to the CVI graph.
    - Measuremnt Studio does not have a table control.
    - VC++ 6.0 is really really old. Have you considered upgrading?

  • Labview 2010 SP1 - How to install just the labVIEW and remote panel

    Hi all
I am currently using a licensed version of LabVIEW 2010 SP1. It came up with 6 to 7 DVD’s each of them containing around 5 GB of data. Installing all these stuffs eats up around 30 GB of ma C drive.
My project just deals with 2 EPOS controllers controlling 2 of maxon EC motors and these 2 EPOS controllers are communicating via USB port with the client PC. This client PC have to be monitored and controlled remotely by host PC containing the same LabVIEW version.
To do this, do I have to install all of these 7 DVD’s or just enough to download the “LabVIEW for education 2010 SP1” from the NI website, available in the below link “http://search.ni.com/nisearch/app/main/p/ap/tech/lang/en/pg/1/sn/n8:28,ssnavdl/”
    Awaiting for your reply  friends.
    Thanks in advance
