CVI 2013 clang.exe crashes at wrong "extern dllexport"

Another issue...
#include <utility.h>
extern DLLEXPORT int crashme;
int __stdcall WinMain (HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance,
LPSTR lpszCmdLine, int nCmdShow)
if (InitCVIRTE (hInstance, 0, 0) == 0)
return -1; /* out of memory */
crashme = 1;
return 0;
This makes clang.exe crash (using Windows 8, maybe it matters).
/* Nothing past this point should fail if the code is working as intended */

Hello!
Thanks for reporting the issue. I have filed bug report # 423475 for the problem.
However, it appears to me that you're trying to import "crashme" from a DLL into your project. Did you mean to use DLLIMPORT instead of DLLEXPORT? DLLEXPORT suggests that you're trying to export crashme from the current project and it's a little unusual to reexport a variable that you've just imported with "extern". (Unusual but no excuse for clang crashing.)
Sorry, the import/export directives are a big confusing. I'll try to summarize:
extern int x;
Variable x is declared externally and you're importing it from some other file into this file.
DLLIMPORT int x;
Variable x is declared externally in a DLL and you're importing it into this file.
DLLEXPORT int x;
Variable x is declared in this file (which is part of a DLL) and you're exporting x from the DLL for use in other DLLs/EXEs.
Thanks,
Peter

  • External procedure- extproc.exe crashing

    I'm calling and pl/sql procedure from SQL*Plus
    which in turn calls an external C procedure from a library..
    this works fine ..
    however when I go to exit SQL*Plus extproc.exe
    crashs bringing up a memory leak error ..
    any ideas why,

    Hi,
    I am not sure of that, but I think you get Exceptions. If any document refernce you want the please find the link Oracle9i Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals Release 2 (9.2)

  • Extproc crashes when calling external routine

    Can anyone point me to documentation on the causes of extproc.exe crashing when trying to invoke an external procedure? The standard documentation set isn't too helpful for debugging such a problem.
    I have been able to call one external procedure. With two others, I always get an extproc crash with (I believe) an access violation.
    The routines I am trying to call are 3rd-party, so I do not have the ability to view their source, though I do have the list of parameters and the sizes and types.
    What I am hoping to find somewhere is a list of the kinds of things that cause extproc to crash so I can see if any of them are likely culprits in my situation.
    Thanks,
    Bruce Merkle

    Have you tried calling into the dll that CVI calls directly from TestStand?  I am curious to know if this also crashes.
    I am also curious to know if there are any path references in the dll that is called by the CVI program.  If so are they relative, or absolute paths?
    I ask because one of the possibilities is that relative paths are being used to specify a path from the location of the code that is called, and they are not working because the current working directory is being specified by TestStand, and the paths are not relative to the working directory given by TestStand.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 RDS + User profile Disks + App-V = Explorer.exe crashing all of the time

    I have built a new RDS farm on Windows Server 2012 R2 with two Session Hosts and a combined Connect Broker/Web Access server. I had the farm up and running with User Profile Disks and all seemed OK. However, as soon as I installed the App-V 5.0 SP2 RDS
    client on the session hosts, the explorer.exe process started crashing for any user logging in via the Web Access site. The process crashes and restarts every five to ten seconds. It's the same for administrators. If they log in via Web Access explorer.exe
    crashes, but if they RDP directly to one of the session hosts explorer.exe is fine. If I reboot the session hosts, then the first user to log in via Web Access has a stable desktop session (and appears to have a new profile as well). However, if that user
    logs out and back in again, explorer.exe starts crashing again. The only applications I have packaged at the moment are Office 2013 and Firefox.
    I tried disabling User Profile Disks, but this caused a whole bunch of other problems and I eventually lost the ability to log in at all via Web Access (errors about the user profile service). As this is a small pre-production environment I completed scrapped
    all of the servers and rebuilt from scratch. Again, everything appeared fine until I installed the App-V client, then explorer.exe started crashing repeatedly for all users.
    Has anyone come across this issue before? I have tried installing the App-V 5.0 SP2 Hotfix Package 2, but this didn't help. I have read in a few forums that App-V doesn't work very well with User Profile Desks, but I have not heard of this particular issue.
    Similarly, SP2 seems to have a lot of problems, so I am going to try removing App-V RDp Client SP2 and installing SP1. I ahev also deleted User Profile Disks for the test users to recreate their profiles, but this didn't help either.
    Any other suggestions welcome!

  • Hard drive crash, music on external drive but no library or playlist backup

    I'm guessing this question has been asked many times but I've searched all over the internet and these forums and am exhausted. So I beg for your help.
    My computer hard drive crashed. Not sure if I can get the files off it yet or not but will find out this weekend trying to connect it as an external drive with a special cable. All the Itunes music is on an existing external hard drive that works fine. No backups were ever created of the playlists or of the library file on the crashed drive, the external drive, or anywhere else.
    I'm using what I guess they call on original Ipod, 25 GB.
    The main thing I care about is getting 5 years' worth of playlists back. Most of them do exist on my Ipod, so at worst I could reference them visually there and recreate them in Itunes. But, um, I'd rather not!:)
    So if with that information you can tell me what series of steps I should take to try to restore my playlists into Itunes on my new PC, or point me to a link, please do. I'll put my thoughts and questions below if this helps in figuring it out. I would say the chances are that I can't access any files from my old hard drive, but it is possible.
    My Ipod also contains most of my songs and playlists, but not all, such as different versions of the same song etc. That is in addition to the external hard drive that all my songs are safely on.
    1) If I can access the files on the old hard drive, is there anything there that contains information on the playlists if I haven't backed them up individally? From my reading it seems like playlists are not contained in the library file itself, is that right or wrong?
    2) What information is contained in that library file, what does it do? If I can't get it from my old hard drive what will happen if I have Itunes create a new one?
    3) I've read that I may be able to get playlist information from my Ipod, but it seemed really confusing and I was uncertain if that was correct. Is that a possiblity? Can I do it by accesing the Ipod as an external drive?
    4) Would I also be able to get the libary file from the Ipod if I can't get it from my old hard drive? If the Ipod contains most but not all of my songs, would it be bad to use this file with the complete list of songs on my external drive?
    That's about all the questions I can think of, so if anyone can help I'd appreciate it. I just can't seem to find an answer specifically to what happens if your music is backed up but playlists and library are not.

    See: What are the iTunes Library files? Both the ITL and XML files keep your Library data. The ITL file is used by iTunes. The XML file is created by iTunes and can bu used in other programs or Imported back into iTunes to re-create your Library. hey are only as good as your last archived backup file (should you corrupt the current Library database file).
    +"2) What information is contained in that library file, what does it do? If I can't get it from my old hard drive what will happen if I have Itunes create a new one?"+
    These are only in the iTunes Library files (ITL & XML):
    Playlists
    Ratings
    Play Count
    Last Played
    Date Added
    Date Modified
    Equalizer
    Volume Adjustment
    These are stored in the music file itself:
    Artist
    Album
    Song Title
    Year
    Comments
    Compilation tag
    Lyrics
    Genre
    Grouping
    Volume Adjustment (a special iTunes-only tag in the file - non-standard)
    Composer
    Bit Rate (not a tag - inherent to the file itself)
    BPM
    Kind (not a tag - inherent to the file itself)
    Album Art (only stored in the file - not copied to the iTunes Library ITL or XML files)
    +"3) I've read that I may be able to get playlist information from my Ipod, but it seemed really confusing and I was uncertain if that was correct. Is that a possiblity? Can I do it by accesing the Ipod as an external drive?"+
    These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…

    YamiPod Software (Free: Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
    XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)

    +"4) Would I also be able to get the libary file from the Ipod if I can't get it from my old hard drive? If the Ipod contains most but not all of my songs, would it be bad to use this file with the complete list of songs on my external drive?"+
    Not directly. You'll need to use the recovery software mentioned in #3 above.

    If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
    Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:
    sudo rm -i /V*/*/.DS_Store
    Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
    Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. Confirm. You don't need to post the warning. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
    You may be prompted to remove one or more files named exactly ".DS_Store" (without the quotes.) Press the Y key and then return to confirm. Press the N key and then return if you get any other response, or just close the Terminal window.
    Try again to open the volume window.

  • (VS 2010 C++) cl.exe crashes when a lot of include paths are passed with /Zi, looking for workarounds

    Hello
    If i pass a lot of include paths to cl.exe that comes with Visual Studio 2010, and i also pass /Zi, cl.exe crashes (16.00.40219.01). Here's an attachment to reproduce the issue: http://www.filedropper.com/clexecrash
    Extract the folder to your system drive root (C:\), and paste the contents of command.txt into a cmd.exe instance. cl.exe will crash.
    test.cmd is a command file containing the line "/IREALLY_LONG_BOGUS_INCLUDE_PATH" 683 times, and /Zi. Please note, that if you either remove even one line of "/IREALLY_LONG_BOGUS_INCLUDE_PATH" or /Zi, the issue goes away. Without /Zi, there
    seems to be no limitation of include paths. Please also note, that it's not the sheer number of /I switches that causes this crash, if you replace REALLY_LONG_BOGUS_INCLUDE_PATH with something longer, you can crash cl.exe with less /I switches.
    This issue is also present in Visual Studio 2012 (17.00.61030), but seems to be fixed in 2015 CTP 5 (i don't have access to Visual Studio 2013, so i can't try). I know Visual Studio 2010 is not supported anymore, so does anyone know a workaround for this problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    Peter

    I cannot reproduce this issue with VS2013, your sample works well and generate a pdb file.
    It seems a issue in VS 2012, but sorry about that I have no workaround for this. Please check this thread: this issue only appear in debug mode.

    Hi,
    I don't know too much about this to be honest but I have some suggestions so I'll throw my two cents worth in. A few things come to mind, first I'd check the client, the issue looks like its there, second check the local security setup and third if your using Active Directory there are special directory issues.
    Hope this helps

  • Return of void functions inconsistency between CVI 2013 and older

    Hello,
    I have discovered an inconsistency using CVI 2013 (SP2 or not) compared to CVI 2010 and CVI 8.5 (the versions I have).
    I have written, by mistake, a code where I'm returning a value for a void function. CVI 2013 does not complain (but should) while other CVI versions complain (and that's OK).
    Here is the code:
    static void pouet(void)
    return;
    static void hop(void)
    return pouet();
    int main(void)
    hop();
    return 0;
    Could this behaviour be fixed for the next CVI update ?
    Thanks.
    Frédéric Lochon.

    Well it's technically not causing wrong behaviour, but may cause less than best performance depending on the compiler code generation as the register usually used for function return values might be assigned some garbage value that never will get used though.
    Causing an error is likely a bit strict, issueing a warning would be the prefered behaviour, not generating either a warning or error is a bit lazy. Problematic would be if you could write this without getting an error:
    static void pouet(void)
    return;
    static int hop(void)
    return pouet();
    int main(void)
    hop();
    return 0;

  • Javaw.exe crashing

    We have a simple JNI call. We suspect that after the jni call returns something goes wrong and we get the windows XP crash dialog (telling us javaw.exe has crashed). Since we load and unload the DLL every time, we can keep using the program for a while but after that we get another message telling us some address cannot be read.
    In the C code we have a printf just before we return 0 in the native method (the one defined in the .h file autogenerated .h with javah). So our native code returns correctly before hanging. Where is the crash happening?
    The JVM does not crash, there is no error report. I'm clueless.

    The only change is that java.exe crashes instead of javaw.exe.
    I'm changing the C compiler. Maybe something changes if I use GCC.
    The weirdest part is The java application and the native DLL (which is loaded and unloaded every time it is used through a wrapper DLL) can be used many more times after the first crash message and before windows it finally sais there was an error reading some memory address.
    Something even weirder, if I use the app and close it normally before it crashes, when I start it again, it crashes at the first attempt to use it.

  • Ifweb60.exe crashes

    Hello,
    I'm trying to get the fileupload bean to work. I can start my webform but when i push the 'upload' button, the form hangs and immediatly and the ifweb60.exe crashes on the server (win2000). If have the forms patch 7 installed on the server and running an 817 DB.
    null

    Hello,
    Maybe i was not clear, but it is not the webform that crashes, but the ifweb60.exe on the server.
    I have included the following lines in the formsweb.cfg :
    "[UploadDemo]
    IE50=JInitiator
    form=FileUpload
    connectMode=http
    archive_jini=f60all_jinit.jar,uploadclient.jar.sig

    height=550
    separateFrame=false
    splashScreen=no
    lookAndFeel=Oracle
    colorScheme=Khaki"
    This is what is displayed in the java console.
    I don't see anyting wrong with it.

  • CVI 2013 compiler: increment / decrement operator evaluation

    I'm looking at pulling an old project forward to CVI 2013, but have hit a challenge, which is documented as follows:
    "In assignment, the value of the right operand is evaluated before an array indexing is performed in the left operand. Expressions such as a[i] = i++; will evaluate differently in LabWindows/CVI 2013 when compared with previous versions."
    (There is a somewhat related thread here to do with the order that function arguments are evaluated.)
    This change in evaluation order is shocking to me. I assume there is some C history behind it, and I'm not going to be able to change that.
    So, my question is: What is the easiest way to find all places in my code where this could affect me? I have ~75,000 lines of legacy code. Perhaps some regex magic?
    Thanks,
    Ian
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    You can try to compile your code with sequence point checking. CVI compiler doesnot seems to know that.
    But maybe lastest version of clang and/or gcc can help there. Be sure to compile with and without optimization, some warning messages depend on this.
    ( try -Wsequence-point on cmd line or  something like #pragma clang diagnostic warning "-Wsequence-point" in source code)
    Better but harder(i think) sollution can be to use some MISRA-C checker, they should detect this but maybe they give you too much warnings about all the unspecified and undefined behaviours.
    Some list is on (section analyzers): https://www.securecoding.cert.org/confluence/display/seccode/CERT+C+Coding+Standard
    I do not use any of them so i cannot reccomend one.

  • 8i EE Setup.exe crash - XP Pro and AMD X2 CPU

    When trying to install 8i on my XP Pro (SP2) box with and AMD X2 3800+, setup.exe crashes as soon as it is run. I've tried the fix for P4s (renaming the symcjit.dll instances), but to no avail. This happens wherever the setup.exe is run from.
    Has anyone encountered this problem and managed to fix it?

    Hope you realize that Microsoft has changed a number of the kernel APIs with XP. Oracle8i was written to older APIs and you may experience crashes, possibly at random, simply because you are trying to run things in an incompatible way.
    (I see this as a bit like buying a new car chassis and putting in an old engine and transmission - there is a lot of tinkering required to get the motor mounts to match.)
    In my experience, people who have made 8i work on XP Pro have generally upgraded XP from an older OS and have been lucky enough to have the old APIs still lying around.
    Suggest you try moving up to a newer version of Oracle and, if necessary, use the compatibility parameter to keep compatibility.

  • Sapinst.exe crashes on Windows 7 (ver. 6.1)

    Hi,
    I am trying to install Netweaver CE 7.11 on Windows 7 64-bit. Yes, I know it is not supported. But still, I would like to ask right about the reason sapinst.exe crashes.
    So, sapinst.exe can be launched in Win 7 native mode, but it is not compliant with OS compatibility. So I am trying to launch it in Vista mode. But sapinst.exe crashes with error log like this (sorry for flood, but see below).
    At the same time sapinst.exe launches in Win 7 native mode + 32-bit sapinst.exe launches in Vista mode. Only 64-bit sapinst crashes in Vista mode. I suspect this is related just to JVM and near that, and may be solved. Please, advise, if someone has more expertise than me or experience with such or similar situations.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Anton

    So I assume ntdll.dll is the place where crash happens. Am I right? And what could it mean?
    Thanks.

  • In past versions of CVI, using OpenFile with no path meant to look in the local path (in other words the install directory). Is there a way to do this in CVI 2013?

    I use an .ini file to allow the users to change the bootup preferneces for the program. In the past that file lived in the install directory and OpenFile could cheerfully find the file and apply the preferences. In CVI 2013, the program seems to need an implicit path to the file. Is there a way around this?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I'm not using CVI2013 yet, but in any case you can build up a full pathname for a file in the application folder using GetProjectDir and MakePathname commands at runtime.
    Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.
