Cvirte.dll application crash

When running CVI full interface operator interface I receive the following error:
AppName: testexec.exe      AppVer: 1.0.0.0     AppStamp:4f2c478b
ModName: cvirte.dll      ModVer: 9.1.0.428      ModStamp:4b566705
fDebug: 0       Offset: 0012c87e
I have even rebuid the applicaiton and the crash still happens. Using LabWindows 8.5 (lower right corner displays 8.5.1 (356)) and TestStand 4.1.
Any suggestions to resolve the error?
Thanks
RK.

On further inspection, the .NET error event may be a red herring, or a second bug. Let's look at the CVI crash first. The information provided so far looks like you may be hitting a bug in our run-time engine, but we do not have enough information to find which one. Could you create a crash dump and send it to us. Instructions for Windows XP copied below:
If you have been using a program other than Dr. Watson as your default debugger, such as Visual C++ or you were not using any debugger:
Go to Start » Run
Enter drwtsn32 -i to install Dr. Watson as the default debugger.
By default the utility only creates the Dr. Watson log file (drwtsn32.log). You have to instruct Dr. Watson to create a crash dump when an application crashes. Launch the Dr. Watson:
Go to Start » Run.
Enter drwtsn32
Make sure the Create Crash Dump File is checked and make a note of the path specified in the Crash Dump edit box. Default Paths:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\DrWatson\user.dmp
The dump file may be too large, so you can upload it to ftp://ftp.ni.com/incoming and let me know the file name.
Addtionally, it is possible that if this is a bug, it may have been fixed in a later release of the CVI Run-Time Engine. I would recommend downloading and installing the latest version from CVI Run-Time Engine 2010 SP1. The CVI RTE is fully backwards compatible and will run your application. It could also be helpful if we then know if this is a bug that has been fixed or if we are dealing with a new bug.

  • Application crashes when calling DLL built with LabVIEW 2011

    Hello everybody,
Our application calls DLLs built with LabVIEW 2010 SP1. We installed LabVIEW 2011 and built some DLLs. So far so good. If we start our application and run 2010 DLLs it still works fine. If we run a 2011 DLL just once no error happens, but if we try to run the same 2011 DLL our application crashes reporting the error below. I saved the code for 2010 version and built a DLL and it works fine. Does anyone know why?

On that note, you should be able to create DLLs in 2010 and run them with 2011, correct??  In my case, I have a 2010 built DLL (talking to sbRIO), most of the functions work when run in 2011, but a couple of them lock up LabVIEW on the desktop (but not the sbRIO), no lock ups happen with 2010 on the desktop.

    Hello,
Based on the exception message, I found that your project is build with .NET 4.0, you could consider changing it to .NET 4.5.
If you want to keep it built with .NET 4.0, then you could consider the following fix.
FIX: "Faulting module name: clr.dll" error message when you run a Microsoft .NET Framework 4-based application

  • Application crash with error ntdll.dll 00018fea

    Hi,
I have a problem with my app.exe build.
I attach a simple code; the Vi open and close a TDM file.
If I run this Vi in Labview works fine.
If I build the application.exe on a notebook and I run it I got "Application crash with error ntdll.dll 00018fea".
I've tried to build the Vi on another Pc Desktop with Labview and here if I run the exe it works fine.
On the two PC I have LV8.5; the build options are the same.
On the notebook I've try also to reinstall LV8.5 but I got the same error.
    Can you help me?
    Thanks a lot

Never ever do that! You were very lucky that both ntdll.dll files were probably the same version so the exchange didn't do much but ntdll.dll is one of the core Windows DLLs were everything goes through that normal applications may access in Windows. A mixup in such a part because of incompatitible ntdll.dll with other system API DLLs might prevent your computer entirely from starting up even in safe mode.
You should not attempt to ever switch system DLLs between different computers. In such behaviour lays insanity. If you expect a system DLL to be corrupt attempt to do a repair installation instead. Also Windows nowadays has techniques to detect if a system DLL got corrupt and will attempt to repair it, though I guess if ntdll.dll would go belly up it's likely your computer won't even start up.

  • Application failed to start, cvirt.dll not found error

I built an application with installer, including the runtime engine. When this is installed the application fails to run as it appears to be missing cvirt.dll. I am using Labview 7.1 and have never had this problem before. On a platform where the full labview environment is installed the application runs fine.
    Any help much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Marco

    Thanks for the reply Robert.
I have no idea which component requires cvi. I am using GPIB and use the USB through an external dll, which is included in the distribution.
When I manually copied cvirt.dll, cviauto.dll, and cvirte.dll in the system32 folder another error appeared: Can not find RTE directory
When I wrote a simple test program (only a stop button and a loop), it worked fine.
I downloaded a copy of Labview runtime engine and installed that. That did not solve it on my test PC, but did solve it on the PC it was intended for.
My problem seems to be solved for now, but I would like to know if there is a way of preventing this with the application builder.
    Thanks for your help.

  • 0xC0000005 Access Violation in cvirte.dll (SetWindowsErrorMode?)

    Hello,
We will occasionally see a crash with our CVI LabWindows based 2010 SP1 application, a 0xC0000005 Access Violation exception thrown from within cvirte.dll. The app is working primarily from a spawned thread when the crash occurs. I've been able to get it consistently on a Win7 x64 VirtualBox VM and have some data that may be of use if someone there would like to investigate.
When I track down the location of the instruction pointer (work below) it seems to be in the "SetWindowsErrorMode()" function (at least going by the exports in DependencyWalker):
    1. The IP is 0x687B5F1C at the time of the crash.
    2. The base module address for cvirte.dll is 0x68420000, so the IP is 0x395F1C bytes into the DLL.
    3. Using DependencyWalker on cvirte.dll and sorting by entry point indicates that the IP is inside of "SetWindowsErrorMode()" at 0x003938D0, which comes before "MinimizeAllWindows()" at 0x003984B0.
Coincidentally, this crash happens in CVI 2013 F1 as well, the offset within "SetWindowsErrorMode()" is a bit different (0x264C past entry in 2010 SP1, 0x2D0C past entry in 2013), but locally the code looks the same in my VS2010 disassembler:

I have dump files (mini, or mini+heap) for both builds if it would help.
This bug seems semi-similar to the thread "Is InstallPopup not threadsafe?":
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabWindows-CVI/Is-InstallPopup-not-threadsafe/m-p/716822/highlight/true#M359...
Just for posterity, I'll add the data for the 2013 build. IP is 0x687CA2CC, DLL Module address is 0x68420000-0x68A28000, so offset is 0x3AA2CC. "SetWindowsErrorMode()" enters at 0x003A75C0 in this dll, and "MinimizeAllWindows()" is at 0x003ACB20.
    Thanks-

    Hi Kelsey,
Apologies for the long response time, I didn't receive a notification for your post.
    > What does your application do?
Our application is used in this context to setup and run our vehicle simulations on a Windows based PC.
    > And, what is it doing at the time of the crash?
At the time of the crash a simulation is being launched and run on another thread from the default thread pool like this:
    CmtScheduleThreadPoolFunctionAdv (DEFAULT_THREAD_POOL_HANDLE,
        sRun,
        NULL,
        THREAD_PRIORITY_NORMAL,
        NULL,
        EVENT_TP_THREAD_FUNCTION_END,
        NULL,
        RUN_IN_SCHEDULED_THREAD,
        &sThreadFuncId);
That spawned thread will load a simulation DLL, read some data as input, run the simulation, output the results, then close the DLL.
As I noted earlier, I couldn't get it to happen on my desktop, but I could get it on the VM when I used a very slow storage device for the I/O of the simulation (a slow thumb drive attached to the VM). My boss was seeing the issue on his virtualized PC on his Mac, typically only when he used a slower storage device as well (network storage for example).
    > When you reproduce this issue in 2010 and 2013 f1, are you using the same computer or using different machines?
Both of these crash dumps were produced on the virtual machine as described.
    > For each dump file, which version of LabWindows/CVI were you running? You can find the version number by selecting Help»About LabWindows/CVI within LabWindows/CVI. Which version of cvirte.dll do you have? This will be located in System32 and/or SysWOW64.
The development environment installed was CVI 2010 SP1. So the 2010 dump was just using the runtimes bundled with that installation. I then installed the 2013 F1 runtimes to see if the same issue persisted.
It's possible I did a clean install with the 2013 F1 dev environment, I will double check this tomorrow when I have access to the virtual machine.
    Thanks for looking into this--

  • Faulting module cvirte.dll

I have a vb.net desktop app which makes call to a dll developed in LabWindows/CVI.  I have version 9.0 cvi runtime engine installed.  The CVI dll is actually developed by another company I am working on this project with.  The crashing is not consistent but it most often ends up with an error "faulting module cvirte.dll"  The problem is that it will run fine sometimes for a couple of hours making the same function calls then error.
The exception in this case is
    Exception Code: 0xC0000005
Exception Information: The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access.
What I do not understand is why it will make the same calls for a long period of time then all of sudden crash. Since it is so inconstent it's hard to explain this to the CVI developer since with his CVI only app it works.
Since I have version 9 of the CVI engine installed are there any issues if the actually dll is developed in a prior CVI version?  I'm waiting for a response from the developer on this issue.
Any ideas on tracking down this issue would be helpful?
    Darrell
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Darrell,
The CVI Runtime Engine is backwards compatible so version 9.0 should work with DLL's built in an older version. However, it might still be helpful to know the exact version AND build of the runtime engine that you are using.
Also, there should be some useful information in the Windows Event Viewer that will help us determine what is going on. Right-click on My Computer, and select Manage. In the Computer Management window, expand Computer Management»System Tools»Event Viewer. If you are on Windows XP, select Application. If you are on Window Vista/7, select Windows Logs»Application. There should be an error listed here that corresponds to your application. If you cause the app to crash immediately before looking at the log, then your app should be the most recent error.
You already sent us the faulting module name and the offset, but any additional information, more specifically, exactly what your application is doing when it crashes would be helpful. If you could send all the details from that log, that will help us in resolving this issue.

    Hi there,
You could try performing a clean installation: [[Knowledge Base Article]] :
Some Firefox issues can be resolved by downloading a new Firefox installer from Mozilla.com, then closing Firefox, deleting the Firefox application folder (program files) and reinstalling Firefox. If this does not help, or if you would rather completely remove Firefox and start over instead of completing all the troubleshooting steps, follow these steps:
    1. Download the latest official version of Firefox from Mozilla.com.
    * You should avoid unofficial download sites that bundle Firefox with other software such as the Google Toolbar.
    2. If you wish to retain your current profile, you should make a backup copy of it. See Backing up your information for instructions.
    3. Uninstall Firefox and make sure you remove the Firefox application (program) folder and your Firefox personal data (user data and settings) - see Uninstalling Firefox for instructions.
    4. Reinstall Firefox - see Installing Firefox for instructions.
    5. When Firefox is started for the first time, the Import Wizard will appear and a new profile will be created.
    6. Verify that the issue no longer appears.
    7. If you made a backup of your old profile and wish to restore your old information, see Recovering important data from an old profile. For troubleshooting purposes, only copy the files corresponding to your bookmarks and saved passwords.
    8. Reinstall your extensions and themes one by one to determine if any specific one is causing the issue.

  • Powerbuilder application crashes after upgrade to 12.5.2 (build 5006)

I have already seen few similar posts on this forum for similar issue. However, I feel mine is different from those and could be some basic steps am missing. Thanks in advance for any comments.
We are evaluating the effort and benefits of migrating our PB 10.2.1 (build 9731) application to  PB 12.5 Classic. After downloading the trial version from the SAP site, I could migrate the application easily with only a handful of warnings. However, while running the application either from build (EXE) or from IDE, it crashes (windows application failure) frequently. In addition to that, few of our application screens opens as blank screen (doesn’t display anything in the DW attached).
My operating system is Windows 7 (32 bit) Service Pack 1. The application has many calls external DLLs (both windows standard and custom), as samples at the bottom. I believe that the correct (from PB 12.5) DLLs are copied to Powerbuilder home directory (C:\Software\Sybase\PowerBuilder 12.5 & C:\Software\Sybase\Shared\PowerBuilder) and the source code directory in my attempt to ensure that there are no issues with DLLs. However, initially I had installed powerbuilder 12.5 also under the same root as Power builder 10.0, but as I read few posts that DLLs from different version residing in same place can cause issues, uninstalled and installed PB 12.5 on different location.
Our PB application also interact with the .Net modules of the application by communicating through a custom DLL. However, that seems still working and I am able to open the .Net screens from the migrated application.
Below are the main scenarios in which the application crashes and every time I get a DLL error as given below.
    1. While running the application from IDE and selecting ‘Exit’ from the main window. This will close any instantiated objects and close the mutex by calling the windows API.
function ulong CreateMutexA(ulong lpMutexAttributes, boolean bInitialOwner, ref string lpName) library "kernel32.dll" alias for "CreateMutexW" function ulong GetLastError() library "kernel32.dll" alias for "GetLastError;Ansi"
function ulong CloseHandle(ulong hMutex) library  "kernel32.dll" alias for "CloseHandle;Ansi"
This will result in the below crash.
Faulting application name: PB125.EXE, version: 12.5.2.5006, time stamp: 0x50f93412
Faulting module name: kernel32.dll, version: 6.1.7601.17932, time stamp: 0x503275b9

    Faulting process id: 0x2bdc
    Faulting application start time: 0x01cf3e72371227c9
    Faulting application path: C:\Software\Sybase\PowerBuilder 12.5\PB125.EXE
    Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\kernel32.dll
    Report Id: 8feef8fc-aa65-11e3-8049-f500274aecdc
    2. Opening of certain windows results in the below crash. If I try to debug the code and move mouse over the line of code being executed, then also I get the same crash. I don’t do the mouse move then I can proceed with the same line, however it will crash at a later line calling ‘classname’.
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

    3. Few of the application screen opens but doesn’t display the datawindow attached to it.

... many calls external DLLs (both windows standard and custom),
You have a very complex application and it is unlikely that you will receive much help in this type of setting.  As Chris has already pointed out, previous efforts appear to have been done in a sloppy manner; something indicated by the ANSI qualifiers on API functions that are not needed or relevant.  In addition, the PB alias of CreateMutexA for the API function CreateMutexW is also suggestive.
I believe that the correct (from PB 12.5) DLLs are copied to Powerbuilder home directory (C:\Software\Sybase\PowerBuilder 12.5 & C:\Software\Sybase\Shared\PowerBuilder)
You should be very very careful about doing things like this.  One should not simply scatter DLLs across directories without very good reasons as it often leads to strange problems.  On a machine with the IDE installed, you should allow PB to install everything where it wants them.  Copying or moving files is something done as a last resort - it is certainly something that you need to document in case you need to undo it or redo it at a later time.
Lastly, you might reconsider attempting this with the trial version.  I don't how "current" the trial version is but I suspect it might be a bit buggier than the most current maintenance build.  I'm guessing that you will have to do a bit more than recompiling to get the functionality related to "opening .Net screens" working.  It might help to try creating a new application and put in some basic functionality to interact with all of these external processes, screens, dlls, etc since I suspect this is where the bulk of your problems exist.

  • Getting Error-- "The procedure entry point _UP_GetActiveTreeCell could not be located in the dynamic link library cvirte.dll" on host machine.

I am trying to build an executible program that will be portable to machines which do not have CVI installed.  It works fine on my CVI v9.1 system.  However, whether or not I include "Full run-time support" in the build options, I get the error "The procedure entry point _UP_GetActiveTreeCell could not be located in the dynamic link library cvirte.dll" when I try to run it on a machine without CVI.  Please help.

To run a CVI application on a system were the CVI IDE is not installed you need to have the CVI RunTime Engine installed. According to the error message at the bottom of this page you may have an older RTE installed in the target system.
To obtain it you can either download the RTE and install in the target system or better let the IDE build a distribution disk that installs all necessary software in it: this guide drives you in creating the appropriate installer for your application: you can find it also in CVI help function.
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

I am facing a problem in Window vista. It always crash when we open the window component using Adobe AIR. I am creating the Dynamic window and adding the child component as window.rawChildren.addChild(object) like this.. we made the setup , it is running perfect in all OS except Windows vista 32/64 bit.
When we work with our AIR application in conjunction with our own h/w product(Tablet Driver).[without connection of Tablet slate with PC it works fine but with it not].
S/w Details:- AIR Installer above 2 and SDK above 2.

Could you try this against the released 3.2 version of AIR and our 3.3 beta to see if it still occurs?  If so, please open a new bug report on this over at bugbase.adobe.com?  Include any sample code or application to help us easily reproduce the problem.  If you'd like to keep your code private, please feel free to send it to me directly at [email protected]  In addition, if you can give us a .dmp of this crash it could be very helpful.
Please post back with the URL so that others affected can add their comments and votes.

  • Application crashes on starting from one path but works from another path

We have an odd problem.  A small application is deployed to a handful of users. The PB11.5 version has been running successfully for years on XP and then a year on Win7. It was recently migrated to PB12.5 and redeployed. It is a simple deployment - EXE, PBD and runtime DLLs all in the same folder. For one user, the application crashes before it has hardly started.  The Windows messsage "Application has stopped working" is displayed.  The further details shows it is event APPCRASH and module PBVM125.dll where the failure occurs.
However, if the folder name it is deployed to is renamed - no other changes, just a rename - it works fine.  Rename the folder back to the original name and it fails again.
Other than the zero change migration to PB12.5, the application has not changed for 4-5 years and much of it is over 10 years old. While the error handling could be improved, it has functioned perfectly OK in previous incarnations and this version runs properly elsewhere.
Any ideas what might be causing this?
The application is very basic in its design - it doesn't specifically reference the Registry (although the runtime dlls might). My suspicions are a corruption in the Registry or Prefetch or Folder Redirection.
The user machines are supplied under a third party contract so we are limited in what we can see and do to investigate.

Our infrastructure vendor has removed the problem by performing a profile reset on the affected user account.  The application now runs successfully in the intended location.
Presumbably this action has cleared both the User registry and Windows user account settings.  I consider this to be a sledgehammer solution as the user has lost other setting too (eg. Outlook accounts).
I suspect that this is all I will ever know of the cause.  If I learn anything more precise I will share it with you.
By all means continue to offer your suggestions.  However, as the problem has been eradicated, no further investigation will be possible unless it recurs.
    Cheers,
    Ian
