CWGraph3D Slow With New Video Card

I have an application that uses a CWGraph3D to plot data that is usually 300 x 300 data points.  It used to work fine, but I've recently bought a computer with a nVidia GeForce 7600 GT and another computer with a nVidia GeForce 7900 GS, and the graphs plot so slow that the application is unusable.  I also have another computer with a nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX and it runs fine.  If I swap in one of the other video cards to this computer, then the application is unusable, which makes me think the graphics card is the problem.  Is there any documentation that says what kind of graphics cards should be used so that the graphs will work?  Is there a way to get the graphs to work with these graphics cards other than turning off hardware acceleration?

Hi TheDoug,
There is documentation that states which video cards work
with these graphs because realistically, they should all work, but they are of
course limited by the card with what type of frame rate you will see as your
points you plot grow larger. I noticed you said you are plotting around 300 X
300 data points, but does this same behavior occur in our example programs that
plot less data points than this? If the example programs work fine, it would
not be a compatibility problem but instead would be a limit of the video cards
themselves. The only way to fix this on the non-working video cards would be to
limit the amount of points you are plotting or, as you stated, turn off
hardware acceleration.

  • ITunes error with a new video card

I just installed a new video card. Geforce 9800gt.
Now when I start iTunes, the grid that lists the songs is shades of pink rather than gray. And the playlists appear blurry.
    I have the latest drivers.
Has anyone else encountered this? Any suggestions?

    Thanks!
    That was exactly the issue.
I never thought about looking there. No telling how long I would have overlooked it.

  • New video card for HP Pavillion Elite HPE-170t

Hi, I'm starting to get some screen artifacts sporadically, Ithink my video card is starting to go bad. i want to get a new one, but I am not sure what will fit. My computer  HP Pavillion Elite HPE-170t:
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-860 quad-core processor [2.8GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache]
    8GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM
    1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
1GB ATI Radeon HD 4850 [2 DVI, HDMI and VGA adapters]
    Lightscribe SuperMulti DVD burner
15-in-1 memory card reader, 1 USB, 1394, audio
    No TV Tuner
    Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium
I see by some other questions here several video cards suggested, but those replies were a few years old and those video cards are no longer available.
So, any suggestions on newer video cards under $200 that will pretty much fit and work as easily as possible? Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply.  I don't have another monitor to try, but the artifacts seem to sometimes move along with the mouse cursor. Sometimes I can scrill the artifacts away, other times the screen freezes.
I do have room for a double width card,  but I was looking at the XFX R7 250E 800MHz 1GB DDR5 DP HDMI DVI Graphics Card, which seems to be a newer model of the XFX AMD Radeon HD 7750 1GB GDDR5 . Both are single wide and don't need an extra power connection.

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

  • Problem with new graphic card Geforce GT 610 installed in HP Pavilion a6710in

I have recently installed the nVidia GeForce GT 610 graphic card. The problem faced by me is especially during playing games, the screen goes black and PC restarts but it works fine with rest of the things. I have disabled the integrated video card as would be if new video card is installed. The problem is still unclear... so please if anyone can help me out with this...

The GT 610 requires a minimum of a 300 watt system power supply and your computer came from the factory with a 250 watt power supply. When playing games, it is very possible that the card draws more current than the 250 watt PSU can supply. This would cause the computer to crash, go blank, and/or reboot. Please upgrade the power to at least 300 watts.

  • I need a new video card any suggestions?

Okay people I am in the market for a new video card and I need to choose between ATI and Nvidia. I plan to get either something in the X800 series or in the 6800 series. My budget is $400.

I cant complain with mine. I got it on sale for 245$ @ Compusa.  Its quiet, never goes above 63C(? I havent seen it that high anyhow).  However there is that problem with the vpu( full cpu usage or something when watching some media formats???). I would go X800 if you want to spend it all, or 6600gt AGP and something else like an mP3 player.

  • Pavilion P6-2326s Power cycling with new graphics card

Hi, I just got a Pavilion P6-2326s from a friend that didn't want it anymore because it was broken. I know a little about PCs so I thought i could fix it and have a spare. It would fire up and run but no video. I figured onboard video was dead and ordered a new cheap video card(EVGA GT610 1GB). I installed it and and no go. the pc just cycles through starting for 3-4 seconds, stops, starts again for few seconds and goes again. It will keep doing this forever or until I hold in power button to shut down. I thought maybe vid card was drawing too much juice, so I removed power supply and put in a known good, 550 watt that I have. Same deal with the start, stop sequence. Tried removing, replcing battery to refresh CMOS in BIOS. Same result with start, stop sequence. Is it safe to assume that Motherboard is probable fried? One othe note, when I got the PC and opened it up, it was the dirtiest PC I have ever seen. It was really caked up with dust and webs. Any ideas out there? Thanks in advance

You would definitely need to remove the add on video card in order to change the BIOS settings, but if you don't have any video with the video card removed, then you still can't see the BIOS settings, and you are pretty much out of luck.
You would probably be throwing good money after bad unless you can find the same motherboard on eBay in used but tested and working condition at a very reasonable price.
Here are listings of the motherboard your model uses.  They may be from different model PC's however that use the same motherboard and again, you may not be able to use W8 because if some of those motherboards came from models with W7, there won't be a W8 product key in the BIOS.

Then there might be a problem with getting Windows 8 reactivated since the motherboard was changed even if you do manage to find one that came from a PC with W8.
If it were me...This would be a case where I would strip it for parts, and toss the rest of it out.

  • Add a New Video Card to K7N2G

I've added a new video card to my K7N2G, an ATI Radeon 9700 and it's working, but there seems to be lag when I'm moving between my applications. Do I need to disable my onboard card? If so How do I do it, does anybody know?

    Thanks Wonkanoby !!!!
Moved from slot 1 to 2, IRQ changed to 16.:D Happy Days :D  are here again. I've been agonizing over this for a few days now. While in my IRQ settings I noticed That my Standard Open HCD USB Host Controller is sharing IRQ 21 with NVIDIA NFORCE MCP Network. Does this have to be addressed also?

  • New Video Cards- Motion Performance

Anyone have any early insight on the new video cards and their expected performance with motion? Do you guys think the nVidia will out perform the ATI? As I recall, in the last batch the x1900 was the strongest for Motion.
Here are the new available build options for Mac Pros:
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB (Two dual-link DVI)
    2 x ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB [Add $150]
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB (Two dual-link DVI) [Add $200]
    3 x ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB [Add $300]
    4 x ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB [Add $450]
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 1.5GB (Stereo 3D, two dual-link DVI) [Add $2850]

Some offline discussions and various lists of high end users indicate "no one knows yet." The new systems have not been tested by experienced users who can offer opinions I would trust. I'd certainly not rely on Apple's promises or claims. Give the motion graphics and video worlds a few months to play with them.
We also have no definitive answer to "Will any of these new cards work in older Intel Macs?" There is already uncertainty whether the newer form factor cards will work in the older form PCI slots. The mfrs a[[ear to suggest they will.
Save your money for a few more weeks!

  • System PSU requirements for new Video Card

I need to know if my system can support a new video card (fx5600 or radeon 9600 up) considering that I only have 300 watts psu. What voltage railing and how much current does these cards use? I cannot find any technical specs for these cards so I cannot compute for the power requirements my system will need if I change video cards.

Given a 300watts PSU, I would not placed my bets on either cards as the Fans don't really eats up the powers, it's the CPU + RAM + Mobo + VGA that are the main power consumers!!!
Considering a recommendation for you to go with the current PSU you have, most probably a GF4 MX440 will max out every supplement there.

  • Should I get a new video card?

    Hello,
I currently have a Power Mac G5 with dual 1.8 GHz processors and the GeForce 5200 video card.
I have Final Cut Studio 2 and I cannot use Color.
Not being able to use Color is not a deciding factor at this point for getting a new video card, but I just purchased a new Canon XH-A1.
So from now on I will be editing in high definition. My main question is: Will getting a better video card effect render times, or is that strictly how fast your processor is?
If I should get a new video card and am not looking to spend a whole lot of money, what kind of video card would be reccomended? Also, is there such thing as third party companies making video card for Mac computers like, for example, EVGA does for windows computers?
Any help would be appreciated thanks!

    Hi:
Will getting a better video card effect render times, or is that strictly how fast your processor is?
More memory will NOT give you better render times. You'll get better performance on using FxPlug (GPU accelerated) effects in FCP.
Motion is almost "unusable" with your standard GeForce 5200.
About GPU upgrade options read this thread:

    Hope that helps !
