Cyrillic fonts fo FCP

I've bought my iMac and FCE in Russia and Cyrillic fonts were pre-installed in my computer. In few days I will have to edit on Mac Book Pro that my client brings from UK. He told me that the computer has no Cyrillic fonts. But we will need to make Russian titles. I think the basic fonts may be installed from Mac OS discs. Isn't?
Any other idea?

Thank you! And do you know if Lucida Grande can be used in FCP?
Sorry, I don't have FCP to test, but I would be surprised to find that the main system font used by OS X was not available to FCP. Are there fonts supplied by Apple with with OS X that do not work in that app?

  • How Do you use Cyrillic Fonts (Russian) in InDesign CS4 or CS3

I have a headline in Russian a client sent me in an e-mail that I need to use on a poster I'm laying out in InDesign.
I downloaded ERUniverse cyrillic font, and when I paste the Russian headline in a text box and go to select ERUniverse cyrillic, there's no Russian!
Also, I go down to the bottom of my fonts there's Hebrew, Japanesse, Chinese fonts, etc...but no Russian.
Please help with instructions on how to use a cyrillic font!!!

I downloaded ERUniverse cyrillic font, and when I paste the Russian headline in a text box and go to select ERUniverse cyrillic, there's no Russian!
That font must not be Unicode enabled. An old hack to insert Cyrillic characters into a regular font was to replace "unused" characters with Cyrillic ones. So, to type a 'de' д, you would insert the character code for an 'ê'.
Modern fonts are Unicode enabled, which simply means that in every font Cyrillic characters are found in the same place. Thus, changing the font does not change the text.
If you are working on Windows, check the Character Map for fonts that support Cyrillic. Select 'Advanced view', Character set: Unicode, Group by: Unicode Subrange. A small window pops up, enumerating all possible Unicode groups. Scroll down and select 'Cyrillic'. Now the character map will only show these characters for each font, so simply scroll through your font list to see which one have them.
(And OSX no doubt has a similar feature.)
The older Windows system fonts Times New Roman, Arial, Georgia, Verdana, and the newer ones Calibri, Cambria, and Candara, and lots of the fonts that came with your InDesign installation support Cyrillic (at least Minion Pro and Myriad Pro do).
It's also possible the original text has not been typed using a Unicode font. If you need a quick check, select some of the text and select the font Arial Unicode (on a Mac, I think "LastResort" will do). If you see useful text, you're okay to go. If not, you have a huge problem. You will have to find the exact font that was used in the original document and use that, or use Find and Replace to change each character to the actual Cyrillic one (and you will need a hardcopy before you can do that).

  • Problem with Cyrillic fonts in Mail

I have a problem with Mail mangling Cyrillic fonts. It happens like this:
    1. I create a new mail. I set my input locale to Bulgarian - Phonetic.
    2. I type out the email and send it to someone (afraid I don't know their config).
    3. The other person replies - doesn't seem to matter whether it's in English or Cyrillic. Their reply appears perfectly, and also my quoted original text from 1 is fine in their reply when looking at it in my Inbox.
    4. I then reply to their reply in Cyrillic as per step 1 above, except by pressing reply, rather than New Mail.
What happens then is as follows:
a - the recipient receives my email and reads the Cyrillic content just fine
b - the email that appears in my Sent folder has all Cyrillic content in the message from steps 1-4 above mangled. The mangling moves Cyrillic letters about - i.e. all characters are in cyrillic and the same original characters always map to the same character, they're just wrong. e.g. Дени gets mapped to дЕОЙ. Стефан maps to уФЕЖБО.
This is a bit annoying - as I have no record of the sent mail, and you're never quite sure whether the mangling is just in the sent folder or whether the recipient is also getting the mangled text.
Any thoughts? I haven't been able to find anyone with a similar problem on these forums.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stephan
    *My configuration*
    I'm running Leopard 10.5.6 on a PowerBook.
My Mail version is Version 3.5 (930.3)
    Mail is configured to use:
Lucida Grande 11 for Mailbox Font
Lucide Grande 12 for Message List Font
    Helvetica 12 for Message Font
My mac has the following input locales installed:
    British
    Bulgarian (phonetic)

It might be helpful to add that in Mail->Preferences->Composing the setting is Plain Text.
And also that if I reply to myself all day long, this problem doesn't occur - its only when replying to someone else.

  • How To use Arial (Cyrillic) font  in Reports 10g for PDF output

    Hi,
My reports are in Arial (Cyrillic) font, but there are only hieroglyphes in pdf output. Is there a problem with fonts on Report Server or something else?
My Report Server is 10g R2 (10.1.2.2) and OS is RHEL 4.
I followed metalink notes 750805.1 and 356221.1 but it didn't help me.

You also have to be careful with fonts. The font you download may be the same name, but a different font. Just because you find a Zurich BT font, does not mean it is the same. If you search on the internet, there are several sources of some Zurich BT fonts free. However, they may or may not be the same font. Editing is best done on the original document and not the PDF. One of the PDFs I found on the Landis site was only in Zurich font. I would think that the original file is available from the company and that should be the document you edit, not the PDF. It appears the original was created in InDesign (CS3).

  • Cyrillic fonts

We have files containing cyrillic fonts made with FM 7. They open correctly in version 8, but not in version 9. Files made with FM 8 open ok in version 9. Is there a way to e.g. convert FM 7 files so they open ok in version 9? It takes too much time to open those files in FM 8 and save them one by one.

    Rosalee,
this problem should be fixed with the latest FM patch (9.0.3 = p250). Older FM9 versions ignore font mapping to virtual fonts (CE, CYR...) made in the registry. Do you use the latest version?

  • Fonts in FCP

Fonts in the newest FCP are still problematic. Only truetype versions can be used, not postscript, and in the truetypefonts the built-in kerning is not taken literally, the letters are placed a bit more crampy. Boris is not correct too, so I have to make titles in Photoshop which knows how to handle fonts properly.
The silly thing is that DVD Pro in the same bundle uses postscript fonts just as they are intended, with the right spacing and correct kerning...

...Only truetype versions can be used, not postscript...
There are several utilities out there that will convert a Postscript Type 1 face into TrueType. This is what I do when I absolutely need a Postscript font in FCP or DVDSP.
I use an old copy of FontMonger in OS 9, but I'm sure you can find a more modern font conversion util with a little research.
Font management becomes a little challenging, but I have a special set in Fontbook named "TV Fonts" that I put all my TT duplicates into.
Then I only need to remember to turn them on and off as I go back and forth between "TV World" and "Graphic Design World."
No good util available for that, I'm afraid. Big orange post-it note on the corner of my monitor helps, though.
Oh yeah, make sure that neither FCP nor DVDSP is running when you add a new TT face. Actually, after you activate a new TT face in Font Book, I find it is a good Idea to restart or Logout/Login before attempting to use it in FCP or DVDSP.

  • Cyrillic fonts support

Will the added support Cyrillic fonts in the future?

Thank you for your post! It's certainly our long term goal to have as many languages and characters sets for Buzzword as we can. However, I don't have an ETA for Cyrillic characters, and we appreciate your patience in the meantime.

  • Cyrillic fonts in Story?

Dear Adobe, could you please install Cyrillic fonts? I can not neither name project in Russian, nor write a line in script.

It may be that the iBooks fonts that you can choose do not contain any Cyrillic characters, so a default Cyrillic font is used.  In any case only Apple can change the way iBooks works, you can tell them what you want via the feedback channels

Sorry, in my earlier post I mixed up my "generations." A Nano 2G should display Cyrillic OK, but the ID3 tags of the songs must be in the correct encoding (Unicode). See this page for some info on that:

  • Russian SAPscript/printing Cyrillic Font

I have been tasked with looking at the SAPscript side of a Russian implementation. We are using standard HP printers and have a considerable amount of beposke forms from other country implementations to convert to Russian use. I have scoured the web and OSS and the best I have so far is to use a SAPWIN Device Type on a Russian Windows pc and map any normal fonts ( eg. COURIER ) to a cyrillic Font. Some the the SAP standard 'RU' forms contain Cyrillic Fonts ( eg. COURCYR ) and others normal fonts ( eg. COURIER ). Even if we work out the mapping side of things or change all the SAPscript fonts to a cyrillic version ( eq. COURCYR ) we still have positioning problems with using SAPWIN/SAPlpd on the HP printers. The best solution would appear to be to create a copy of an HP Device Type and modify it to handle the Cyrillic Fonts !? Has anybody done this ? Does anybody know of a reference site we can contact regarding this matter ?
    Any help much appreciated.

    Hi Jonathan!
I would recommend this forum: http://www.sapboard.ru/forums/viewforum.php?f=14
It is a Basis forum for Russian speaking SAPers. Most of its members can read and write in English. Its interface is a quite a familiar look and feel of sapfans forum. They certainly do know how to customize cyrillic printer fonts.
    Hope this helps.

  • Installing Cyrillic Fonts

    Kind People,
Please forgive me if this is the wrong forum to post this question.
I would like to install Russian (Cyrillic) fonts so that when I am using Work, or iMovie, or iWeb, etc. I can choose the Cyrillic font from the same location as all the other fonts. I've been searching the internet for just how to do this and I'm finding nothing. Maybe I'm just not getting it, but I figure this shouldn't be all that difficult. Can someone help me with this?
    Thank you so much.

There is no need to install any Cyrillic fonts, as OS X comes with them already. In a modern OS you don't switch languages by changing fonts, but by changing keyboard layouts instead. Go to system prefs/international/input menu and check the box for Russian or whatever you want, plus the box for "show input menu in finder." Then select Russian or whatever in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder and type away.
