Cyrus mail quota

Hi,
An important user of our xserver (using imap Cyrus) has about 4gb in his imap account. The biggest mailfolder contains 1.7 gb at the moment.
He gets a warning every now and then from Mail.app that his mailbox is almost full.
I read a lot about the hardcoaded limit of 2gb, and how users get over this 2gb, but are getting problems with their accounts.
Is this still the case?
And does this count per imap mail folder or for all the imap folders together in his account (which is now 4 gb)?
We did not set quotas our self, in Workgroup Manager all mail quotas are left at '0'.
Thanks!

I have been experiencing the same issue: a user is getting the '90% Quota' error when we have not set any quotas. I saw that you mentioned a 'hardcoded' 2GB limit, but when looking at Server Admin -> Mail -> Accounts, I see that user's account has a -374MB under 'Quota Used'.
Have you found any other possible solutions?

    Server Running mac osx 10.4
Server Admin does not reflect recent changes made within WGM in relation to Mail quota increases.
I have rebooted, refreshed mail system etc but the mail quota appearing in mail accounts is incorrect.
Please advise the best way to make the changes stick.
    Thanks
    Simon

It could be that the quotas need reconstruction. Download and install mailbfr (available here: http://osx.topicdesk.com/tools/ ) and issue:
    sudo mailbfr -q
Failing that, please check /var/log/mailaccess.log for clues. Maybe your Cyrus DB is broken.
Also note, that quotas and mailboxes over 2GB will not work correctly.

  • Increase Mail Quota

I have a Mac Pro with Leopard Server. I'm trying to increase the Mail Quotas for some of our users over 2GB.
When I update this value in WGM, everything seems to work ok, but the users, sitll get the warning over x% of mail quota.
Any idea what im doing wrong?

As you can see the server admin changes did not make their way to the database itself.
You can either try using cyradm (see man page tidbit below)
"setquota" root resource value [resource value ...]
"sq" root resource value [resource value ...]
Set a quota on the specified root, which may or may not be an actual mailbox. The only
resource understood by Cyrus is "STORAGE". The value may be the special string "none"
    which will remove the quota.
Or look at downloading siradmin and see if that interface helps at all. Siradmin is easier than cyradm but if you are going to be administrating this mail server, you should learn cyradm..

    I hope this helps..

  • Where can I configure mail quotas in Lion Server?

One (minor) problem for me, after upgrading from SnowLeopard Server to Lion Server is the fact, that I can't figure out where to administer the mail quotas. So far I have just managed to find the "Server Admin". Here, under Mail -> Maintenance I can see the quotas and under Mail->Settings->Quotas I can enable quota warnings and edit them. But I can't find a place to configure individual quotas. The quota settings from SnowLeopard server have been migrated and are still in place. But how should I change them. It used to be in WorkgroupManager. But in WorkgroupManager this item is gone.
    Many thanks for your replies.

    Followng up a bit,
In looking into OD records on my Snow Leopard Server via the Inspector in WGM, I see the following attribute for one of my users for whom I've set a 1024mb mail quota.
    Name:
    MailAttriute
    Value:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <dict>
              <key>kAPOPRequired</key>
              <string>APOPNotRequired</string>
              <key>kAltMailStoreLoc</key>
              <string></string>
              <key>kAttributeVersion</key>
              <string>Apple Mail 1.0</string>
              <key>kAutoForwardValue</key>
              <string></string>
              <key>kIMAPLoginState</key>
              <string>IMAPAllowed</string>
              <key>kMailAccountLocation</key>
              <string>[redacted].[redacted].org</string>
              <key>kMailAccountState</key>
              <string>Enabled</string>
              <key>kPOP3LoginState</key>
              <string>POP3Allowed</string>
              <key>kUserDiskQuota</key>
              <string>1024</string>
    </dict>
I'm wondering if manually entering this attribute, and an XML value with at least the kUserDiskQuota key included will be all I need to do to implement per-user quotas in Lion Server.
If I get time, I will test and report back.

  • Mail quota and server issue

I keep getting one of two messages all of a sudden.
    Connection Failed
There maybe a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "*%[email protected]" or try again.
The server error encountered was: The connection to the server "mail.mac.com" on port 993 timed out.
Or I get a message saying that I am at 99% of mail quota. What do either of these mean?

I was aware that you have a .Mac account based on the information you provided in your original post.
My question was/is, how are you accessing your .Mac account with the Mail application on your Mac - the account type - .Mac, IMAP or POP?
The default account type for a .Mac account with the Mail application is a .Mac type account which is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way.
You can access a .Mac account as a .Mac type, IMAP or POP account with the Mail application and as an IMAP or POP account with another email client such as the Mail application on your Mac or on a Windows PC.
Very few (no others that I'm aware of) email account providers include/support such a choice of account types. The majority support a single account type - IMAP or POP with POP being the most common.
With a POP account, you have the option to remove messages from the server when downloaded by an email client such as the Mail application. There is no such option when accessing an IMAP account with an email client such as Mail. A .Mac type account or IMAP account received messages remain on the server until deleted from the account's Inbox mailbox or moved from the account's Inbox mailbox to a mailbox stored locally on your hard drive. Transferring a message from a server stored mailbox to a user created "On My Mac" location mailbox with Mail (which is stored locally on your hard drive) saves the transferred message locally on your hard drive and removes the message from the server at the same time.
The same doesn't apply to a POP account which is the reason for my question regarding the account type.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Account Information tab for your .Mac account preferences will show the account type at the top.
You can raise the amount of server storage space allocated for email messages or remove messages from the server to get rid if the error message and back under your server storage limit.

  • What does Mail Quota: "0" mean?

    Hi there,
I'm trying to get to grips with OSX's mail services and using the Workgroup Manager, I discovered that some accounts have set a limit of for instance 500MB to their mail quota while a few others are set to 0MB (zero).
Does that mean these have unlimited space allowance?
    Cheers Martin

    Thanks, Camelot.
One more question though. If I wanted to set a limit to 1GB, but the account was already exceeding that limit, what would happen? Is there a danger of the user losing any mail?
Where can I check the space usage for individual accounts?

  • Server Mail Quota

    Hi everyone,
my boss got an alert the other day stating that he was nearing the mail quota I had set at 650 MB. This brought up several questions that I'm having trouble finding answers to; hopefully someone here can help me out.
    1. At what percentage to the quota does the alert get sent out? 80% capacity? 90%?
    2. Is there any way for me to check how close my boss or anyone else is to reaching their quota without actually having to be at their computer checking their mail clients?
    3. Similarly, is there a way for my boss or anyone else to check their own quotas? I know how to check it using Apple's Mail, but can't find it anywhere in Outlook 2011, our (presently) preferred client on Mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I can certainly provide more information if it would be helpful.

It is possible to check the quota in the Mac Mail client although I have my doubts that it is accurate.
I can't see any suchQuota inspection in Thunderbird or MS Windows Live Mail clients.
in Mac Mail: ctrl+Click the email account in the Mail App "Mailboxes" section of the LH panel and click "Get Account Info" where you will then see a "Quota Limits" panel with each folder's size in MB and No of Messages under a slider that summarises the amount of quota taken.
Very nice .... except it doesn't seem to reflect individual Users' Quota overrides of the Global "Limit Mail to nMB" settings on the Server App's Mail panel. In fact I doubt this works on OS X Server 4 Yosemite .... be glad to be proved wrong here!

  • Outgoing Mail quota

    Hi.
Is there any way to setup outgoing Mail quota for a specific user?? We want to set a limit in the number of outgoing Mail for a specific user.

We want to set a limit in the number of outgoing Mail for a specific user.If the user authenticates you can use a combination of a mapping table entry and metermaid to limit the number of external recipients (tcp_local) that a user can email e.g.
    <mapping table entries>
    FROM_ACCESS
! User authenticated (mail: [email protected], uid: shjorth)
! tag the *_ACCESS channel with USER_LIMIT followed by ^shjorth^
       *|SMTP*|*|tcp_*|*|[email protected]   $Y$TUSER_LIMIT^shjorth^
    ORIG_SEND_ACCESS
! Check the number of outgoing messages sent, reject the message if exceed metermaid.table.out_limit.quota
      USER_LIMIT^*^tcp_*|*|tcp_local|*    $C$[IMTA_LIB:check_metermaid.so,throttle,out_limit,$0]$E$N$D100|Exceeded$ rate$ limit<metermaid settings>
    ./configutil -o metermaid.table.out_limit.data_type -v string
    ./configutil -o metermaid.table.out_limit.max_entries -v 200
    ./configutil -o metermaid.table.out_limit.options -v "nocase,penalize"
    ./configutil -o metermaid.table.out_limit.quota -v 10
    ./configutil -o metermaid.table.out_limit.quota_time -v 86400
    ./configutil -o metermaid.table.out_limit.type -v throttleThe above settings restrict a user to 10 external recipients (metermaid.table.out_limit.quota) in a 24 hour (metermaid.table.out_limit.quota_time) time frame.

  • Apple mail quote below not above

    Hi,
I used to have it set up so when I replied to an email - the previous quoted text was ABOVE my signature - not it is set opposite - how do I set my signature BELOW the quoted text?

    Ok. Thanks.
I archived maximum email from my account and left around 300 messages in my Inbox + Sent Items.
Then I Rebuilt the account. I saw in the lower left corner the Mail Activity status where it started downloading the messages.
In parallel I had the Activity Monitor open to check the CPU usage. It was around 30%.
It took around 5 to 10 mins to download those 300 messages. But on my mail app only some of the messages were completely downloaded while rest only showed the header and no body. I left it that way.
The Mail Activity is done with its job. The status bar is gone. But the Activity Monitor still shows Mail app at similar CPU utilization levels (around 30%).
The issue is that my Mail App does not show any additional messages downloading with their bodies. Its almost like it is stuck at message number X.
While the CPU is still showing 30% utilization by mail, I have switched the UI to NOT show any conversations. This way every  message is visible in the list. I have put the mac on Caffeine for next 5 hours so that it does not sleep.
    Will update the thread tomorrow.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Mail Quoting Insert Location setting?

I have just converted for incoming messages from Eudora Mail to Apple Mail.
I can't seem to find out where to set up the location that text will be inserted when I reply.
I already have it set so that I only get quoted the piece I have highlighted but I can't make the insert cursor be below the quoted text and above my automatic signature. I am sure there must be a setting I just don't see but I can't seem to locate it by searching for it.
Can someone point me to the user preference I need to change so quoting happens properly with the quoted text on top and my reply below?
    Thanks

I am moving from Eudora to prepare for a move to 10.5 where Eudora appears to be flakey at best or crashes at worst and because Eudora is not being supported at all, Penelope seems dead and Odysseus isn't getting here fast enough.
BIg problem is the history I have with Eudora, over 64,000 saved messages or thereabouts. Since I do refer back to my message history rather frequently and can't know for certain which several thousand messages are important it's important to have robust searching. Apple mail isn't set up to handle that volume of archive and I am not sure what I will do, probably invest in some sort of mail database.

Hm. You're sure you're using that particular combination of products?
iDA 4.5 was never supported for Messaging Server. We had 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2 versions, provided with Messaging 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2.
Messaging 6.0 does not come with iDA, nor is it supported, at present. . .
Are you using Schema 1 or Schema 2 for your Messaging Server?
Have you tried using the commcli provided with Messaging Server?

  • Mail Quotas

    Dear learned,
1,700 user accounts - 200 of those with mail enabled.
In WGM setting a quota for disk space doesn't seem to work.
We have all users set at 30Mb, but looking at var/spool/imap/users shows me that some accounts have over 400Mb.
    What might we be missing?
If we solve this problem, what would happen to mail that is sent to a user who has reached her/his quota?
    Thanks as always.
    Jonathan

1,700 user accounts - 200 of those with mail enabled.
    Hi Jonathan,
If you start server admin, click mail>then the tab accounts.
This will show a listing of all your users. This will also show what apple mail believes how much mail this user has, the quota limit and the percentage free.
    Are these numbers wrong?
How long have you been running apple mail?
Did you have to do a reconstruct?
My situation is that I have gone through alot with my mail and I have done many reconstructs. Everytime I did a reconstruct it set the user mail amount to 0 when I looked at it in server admin even though they might have 400MB, so the quota limit is past what I set. Just recently I installed a script that I believe pterobyte posted. It did a proper reconstruct and sized all mailboxes to their proper size.
I'll search for the posting if you believe this is the problem.

  • Orphaned cyrus mail directories

    Hi Folks,
I recently had some help from a consultant with problems on an OSX 10.4 Server machine. After the edits per his direction in WGM and netinfo, it looks like new mailboxes were created for some of the accounts that got fixed. Mail is playing dine but a new problem was created. The old maiboxes are still in /Var/spool/imap/user and are visible in the SA Mail Maintenance GUI window. I can also see the old mail when I checked via terminal.
I have tried a couple of the techniques I found on google and on the discussion board here over the last 24 hours. Tried to cp a piece of orphaned mail to a working mailbox, chown the owner back to cyrusimap and did a reconstruct on the mailbox. No Joy. Also tried reconstruct as pointed out in Apple Art num 107996.
Siradmin app can't get to the abandoned directories either.
The difficulty is that the user accounts in WGM are paired now with the new cyrus mailboxes. The old mailboxes are "abandoned". I thought the fix would be to migrate the mail files to the new mailboxes then reconstruct the cyrus index. That hasn't worked. Needless to say, I have users that want to recover their old mail. Anyone have an idea?

    Thanks for the response.
Some history. One of the fellows at topicdesk helped me one night last week. It seems a number of user accounts were created with unacceptable characters. New accountscreated in WGM were not playing mail. Using WGM and NetInfoManager, the accounts were renamed and re-aliased. It seems that the process in some cases created a whole new mailbox instead of mapping to the same cyrus directory, hence the "orphanded mail".
I did trial cp one item of mail from an orphaned cyrus mailbox into another new and working user mailbox as root. I chowned the file to cyrusimap. I then reconstructed the cyrus index for that user mailbox using the command line referenced for 10.4 server in the apple tech note in the original post. The copied piece of mail was not retreivable with an apple mail. I tried using the apple WGM Maintenanace tab GUI to reconstruct that one new mailbox again. Again no luck retreiving. All I can surmise is that there is some other attribute to the file that was copied that is not allowing the imap client to retrieve the mail.
I will try it again with mailbfr but I expect that I would get the same results as the command line indiviudual reconstruct. Will let you know.

  • Replying to mail quotes incorrectly?

When I reply to an email with some kind of file attachment like a vcard only the attachment is quoted. All other text is striped out from the email. If an email is text only it is quoted correctly. I'm not highlighting anything and the responding settings are set to "quote text" and "increase quote level." Has anyone seen this before?
    A.J.

Well, I’ve already told you what’s the most likely cause of the problem, so why don’t you either uninstall Safari 3 Beta or install the latest version?
Also, why don’t you update the Operating System field on your My Settings’s profile (and click Save), so that it accurately reflects the version of Mac OS X you’re running now? This is essential information that should always be provided when asking for help...

  • ICloud mail quota bug

I came up with the following problem:
iCloud panel tells me that almost 250 MB is occupied by mail data, but really I have no letters in this mailbox in general.
Also, I checked through the online icloud.com and there is also no messages!
I even tried to disable completely iCloud email and anything does not work, it still shows that I have a 241,5 MB of mail data I can't even see!

    2 month and still nothing...
I were tried almost everything and nothing helps...
There are still 250 Mb marked as mail, but all the mailboxes are empty!
    How could it be?
