D drive wont read my CS2 disc
My D drive wont read mt Cs2 disc. It says there is no disc in the drive, but ive tried it on other comps and it works. I tried burning the disc and that didnt work and i have no ext hard drive. anything suggestions?
Assuming the cd you burned was intended as a backup of your original Adobe CS2 disc, perhaps you didn't finalize it when you burned it. Use the original disc instead. If you don't have an original disc, you might consider that this forum is sponsored by Adobe.

Hello Alfster76, Did you uninstall the DVD drive in the Control Panel, Device Manager, then reboot the system and see if it finds new hardware and installs the drivers for it?
Sometimes this works. If not, you might check the data and the power cables going to the DVD drive, just to insure they are properly connected.
If this does not resolve the issue, the DVD drive may have become faulty.

DVD drive doesnt read DVD-R discs on Mac G4/350 AGP?
Hi,
I noticed that my DVD-ROM drive can read a DVD+R and CD-R disc just fine, but when I stick in a DVD-R disc, it just ejects it. I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.
Is this normal that the DVD-ROM drive can only read in DVD+R discs? The Apple Spec page doesnt say much about this.
AndrewHi-
Try downloading and installing the Patchburn Utility. It might help your media reading. I assume this is a disk that someone burned? Could be your drive doesn't like the media, itself, or the burn speed was too high for your 5x DVD=ROM to read.
If Patchburn doesn't help, may be time to move up to a more modern drive to replace your antique.....
There is a real nice,Pioneer DVR-112 replacement you might consider.

Macbook Cd/Dvd burner drive wont read Cd's properly, but Dvd's are fine.
Hello.
I recently updated my Macbook 1,1 to Snow Leopard, and got new RAM and HDD. Therefor I'm importing my cd collection once again, but when i put in a CD, it makes loud weird noises and either ejects the disc automatically, or doesn't import/read the cd probably (and very slowly).
The weird thing is, is if i put in a DVD in the drive, it read it fine, with no noises or slow speeds.
What should i do?In the past, this sort of behavior has indicated on my home computers that the optical drive is beginning to fail. If this is the case, then the cheapest and easiest solution is to purchase an external optical drive. See link at the bottom of this post. On the bright side, you may be able to use this as an opportunity to get some added functionality (ie lightscribe).

I just purchased snow leopard and I evenually want to upgrade to lion.. I have to put snow leopard on first in order to do that. I currently have leopard. I try to run my disks and they wont read, my DVD drive makes a ugly noise when it tries to read them.. I tried my original installation disk and it does the same thing. But when I put in a regular movie DVD or a music CD it plays them fine without problems. I called customer support, and they suggested I take it to a apple tecnician... cant really afford that right now....has this issue happened to anyone???? any suggestions???? HELP!!!

my dvd drive wont do alot of the things it is supposed to like burn cds, or even recognize them, also when I went to my profiler it says the drive doesnt exist. as far as I know the model is an MATSHITA DVD R UJ 875. my computer will still read dvds, but if there is a cd inserted, then it makes some aggrivating noises and then spits it out, I know little to nothing about SERIOUS computer work, like firmware patches, or bridges or whatever the terms are. When I try to burn anything, it cycles almost burns, but then, like clockwork. the error messafe pops up that there is an un expected error. I am at my witts end here is there any thing I can do to fix this problem, without spending money I really dont have right now? (I am going to school and it starts this thursdaty) or should I just get my SKS out and fix the problem with a Full metal jacket? someone help. if need be my email is [email protected] Please help me if you can.

Dvd drive wont read discs; want to use a .dmg to play Prey
My dvd drive is shot, just like everyone else in this freakin forum. The tricky part is im in afghanistan, yay.. so i cant call apple and get it replaced, so i want to use a .dmg that i made from a friends macbook to play the game Prey cause i can't use the disc, but when i mount it and click on the application it says insert the disc or press quit. what am i doing wrong?
It doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong. Many games require that you have the DVD inserted to play. This prevents someone from making copies (or images) and using them on other machines (pretty much exactly what you're trying to do). While you have a legit issue, far more often, people would make copies for their friends to use without them purchasing the game. It is becoming more common for companies to use other types of DRM which do not require the original media to be used... but many of these options end up in up-roars from consumers as well. If you do in-fact own the game, there are options for removing the requirement that the CD/DVD be inserted in order to play. You can do a search using whatever search engine is available to you to get some options.

My drive wont read disks after update to 10.6.3
Hey.
After I update my MacBook Pro Uni fall 08 to Mac OS 10.6.3 my drive no longer wants to read cds nor dvds, well it sounds like the drive tries to read the disk, but it just enters a infinite loop, anyone who knows what to do?Welcome to Apple Discussions
The first thing to try is to run a DVD Lens Cleaner disc through it to see if there's a speck of dust or dirt on the lens that's causing read/calibration problems - it's surprising how often this simple process can resolve things ...

Hi!
I'm using a stock dv5-2135, and I'm experiencing several issues. The first seems to be a serious CPU slowdown. I'm even getting a lag when typing. After deciding to do a full restore, I have found the DVD Rom drive won't recognize any media, and won't burn. If I can't get the drive to work, how the frak am I supposed to do a full restore? Short of throwing this thing into the river, any suggestions on where to proceed?
Thanks.Hi ChefJim27,
Take a look at this document - there is a troubleshooting document for CD/DVD Drive is not Detected (Windows 7) - take a look and try those steps and let me know if that helps resolve your issue.

Installed SSD and 8GB ram, Now Drive wont read Cds
I have a late 09 15" Macbook Pro. Today I installed an OWC Mercury Extreme Pro SSD and 8gb of Crucial ram, I also disabled SMS and made it so the drives wouldnt go to sleep. Everything works REALLY fast and great except for some reason now when I put a CD in, the computer thinks its blank. Dvds work fine.
Any ideas? Maybe I bumped the connector on the drive?I booted off of my old drive just to see if its a SSD issue. It does the exact same thing booting form the original hard drive. Also I took the optical drive out and gave it a visual, double checked the connections too. I also tried to reenable SMS and that didnt make any difference. It all seems OK, but it still doesnt like CDs.
Seems odd that my drive would stop working at the exact same time that I change to an SSD. -
Hi all,
for about a year and a half, my emac's internal CD drive wont read CDs.
the disc spins, but after about 30 seconds, it spits it out. I have been using an external LaCie cd drive, but i would like to know if there is a way to fix my cd drive.
The CD Drive model is: Pioneer DVD-RW (superdrive) rev. A227
Thanks,
ChrisIf several passes with a CD lens cleaner don't help, you can look over the optical drive replacement tips in Apple eMac Upgrade Guide (which should make continuing to use your external LaCie drive look much. much easier --- opening the eMac isn't that hard, it's putting it back together in working condition that can be unnerving, especially the first time you attempt the task!).

My optical drive wont read 99% of CDs. Had it checked at the Apple store and no problems.
The same CDs that fail on my MBP work in all other computers, drives, CD Drives.
The drive will also play all DVDs
Why doesnt it like CDs? I've tried the usual cleaning of CD. Any other thoughts?Neville,
If you look around this forum you will see a dozen or more others all having the same problem, all starting around mid May.
My tale of woe: MBP 17" late 2008, OSX 10.5.8, Matsushita UJ-875 with DA09 firmware. Will not accept ANY CD media. Accepts and plays DVDs fine. CDs are ejected after several seconds. Rejected CDs work perfectly in other players/readers etc. Have used DVD/CD cleaning disc - repeatedly - with no effect.
Any help from you or anyone else appreciated. -
Just got an audio interface for garage band however mac mini wont read the disc drive to load software. It has worked in the past. Tryed an audio cd and its not reading that either.
