D-LED 2 Temperature Detection - Type of Tape to Attach Thermistor

I have not connected the temperature detection wire to the D-LED 2 or to the heat sink on my system because I am not sure what kind of tape I should use.
Looking at the picture in the User Guide for the D-LED 2, the tape looks like normal transparent Scotch tape; however, I am reluctant to use it given the temperature that might be encountered and the tape melting.
Maybe I should use black electrical tape but I know that it is not very adhesive unless stretched and applied firmly.
Perhaps someone has a good recommendation for me.

Frayed,
Thanks for the info I tried it but it didn't work.
First, I cleared CMOS via jumper and then returned the jumper to it's orginal location.  Then I followed your suggestion about the insert key, NADA, no change.  I held the insert key in on first bootup attempt and on every subsequent attempt, with about a 5 to 10 second delay between attempts, a total of 30 times.
I'll keep your idea in the back of my head  for when (or if) I ever get this thing to boot to bios.
I did notice one thing that I forgot to mention in my original post.  On bootup the d-led's go to RRRG, then briefly (I'm talking like 1/2 a sec, tops) to RGRG, then goes to RRRG and remains there.  Also, the keyboard lights never flicker during POST, should they when POST initializes the keyboard controller?
Sent off an e-mail to MSI Tech Support, here's what they sent back:
"If you have tested the system with only minimal components installed and the system still will not post, try testing the system outside of the case to verify that the motherboard is not shoring to the case and causing a problem.  Place the motherboard on a non-conductive surface with only the CPU w/heatsink, one stick of memory, and video card installed and retest the system.  If the problem persists, try testing the system with different components or test your components on another system if possible to verify that one of the components is not causing a problem.  If the system still will not boot to a display and allow you to enter the BIOS, there maybe a problem with your motherboard that will require RMA service. "
So that's my next step, un-casing the mobo and trying to bootup following the above tips from MSI.  If it works, has anybody ever heard of or tried having a non-conductive plastic/rubber washer superglued to the top of the brass mobo mounting terminals?  If I'm starting to sound desperate, there's a good reason for it!!
Thanx to all who have posted replies, keep 'em coming people!!!

  • Detection Types FCS

    Hello,
    Could anyone tell me what the Detection Status means or is there a list of them with discriptions? I have a Detection type of Concrete and others which say Defintion File and I want to know what means what...
    Can anyone assist?

    That would be helpful information to have.

  • D-LED2 - Where do I stick the temperature detection head?

    Hi Guys
    Still puting together my i7 system below.  Can somebody please tell me where the best place would be to stick the TEMPERATURE DETECTION HEAD component of the D-LED2 system.  Obviously it will be used to monitor the CPU temp, but where do I put it ? on my thermalright extreme 120 cpu cooler ? If so, whereabouts ...
    A drawing / indication would help thanks.  Here is the latest pic:

    It doesn't really matter where you put it.  It is more or less a diagnostic device to discover hot spots in your system.  Put it whereever you like to put it.  The Processor has internal digital sensors within each Core.  You can't really beat those readings with that additional thermal sensor (no matter where you put that thing).

  • XCode 2.2 auto-complete not detecting type casting...

    Hello all,
    Pardon my lack of appropriate terms, but I need some help. I recently upgraded from XCode 2.0 to XCode 2.2 and have noticed an anomoly in behavior.
    In XCode 2.0, I could type-cast an unknown variable implicitly and XCode would use its auto-completion for the class I type-casted. For example, trying to find the count of an array called from a dictionary:
    [[myDictionary objectForKey: @"myArray"] count];
    After closing the inner brackets and trying to find the appropriate methods of NSArray (ie, I hit ESC to see my auto-complete options), XCode is obviously labeling this variable as "id" because it doesn't know what the objectForKey is going to retrieve. In XCode 2.0, I could do the following:
    [(NSArray *)[myDictionary objectForKey: @"myArray"] count];
    Doing this, XCode knew I was expecting an NSArray, and would auto-complete with only the NSArray methods. Now under XCode 2.2, the auto-complete seems confused by this type-casting, and does not list NSArray methods, and doesn't even list id methods, but instead lists what appears to be global and instance variables, not methods at all.
    It compiles properly and the app runs properly, so it seems only the auto-completion is confused. Does anyone know how to fix this back to XCode 2.0's style?
    (BTW, this was a simplified example, I often use the technique with custom classes)
    Thanks in advance.

    My settings appear to be correct. I even trashed the com.apple.xcode.plist file and trashed the .mode file in my xcodeproj to reset everything and still no go.

  • How to get the mime type of the workflow attachment attached to workitem id

    Hi Experts,
    I can attach different types of attachment to the workitem id, lets suppost the attachment type attached is pdf, for this attachment I have an requirement to send the mime type as well. In this case the mime type is 'application/pdf' for pdf files.(for text file it is 'text/plain' and for zip file it is 'application/zip' and so on)
    Do I have any place in ABAP world where I can get the mime type for different types of attachments.
    I dont want to hard code the mime types, and I have checked the transaction 'SMW0', but not sure if this is the correct place to get the mime type.
    Do you see any other way or tables which stores all these mime types.
    Any help/suggestion would be appreciated.

  • Suddently yesterday all file types are downloaded as "attachment.ashx" instead of pdf or doc or whatever.

    I've been using Firefox for many months to access my work email using Outlook Web Access (OWA). Clicking on an attachment always resulted in the file being downloaded intact (mostly pdfs and Word docs). Suddenly yesterday all file types result in the download of "attachment.ashx". I had not changed anything in Firefox. I restarted Ff and then my computer without effect. I then deleted and reinstalled Ff -- no change. Now in the applications window pdfs and docs aren't listed, but I can't get them in there anyway because they don't download as such. I am using Ff 8.0 on MacOS 10.6.8.

    Firefox 9.0 will revert the 8.0 changes, waiting for a definitive fix from Microsoft: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=703015

  • Firefox is my default browser in my local system, i am getting junk data when i open the .html type of files as attachment but there is no issue when i open as inline

    Hi,
    could please help me of the folloing issue
    i have set up the firefox is default browser in my local system.
    issue with only .html type files not with .doc .... etc.
    my application requirement is to view the attached document if set Content-Disposition as "attachement" then open the dialog box with open or save radio options then if i select the open option data getting as junk data not the actual data.
    if set Content-Disposition as "inline"' then file open in same accessing browser with proper data.
    Note
    i am using following piece of code in my application
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=\""
    + fileName + "\"");
    actual my case is :
    some where in my application i copy/paste the data from ms-word
    then it saved as .html file after that when i want to see the data, then click on the attachment it opens dialog box, here i am selecting open option then it opens in my default browser "firefox" with junk data .
    please observe the following junk data,

    Hi 20fox12, this is most likely an IE problem. Firefox has no effect on any other installed applications. Unfortunately I have no idea what to do about your issue. I'd suggest a forum that is more tuned towards Windows issues.

  • Detecting the type of Internet Connection

    Hi..
    I am trying ... build an application that detects the kind of internet
    connection (Dial-up, T1, DSL etc) that you are using and then disconnects it.
    This application, must then send a response to a server-side program
    containing information about the user and the connection type. This
    application has to also trip the current connection if it is dial-up. Thats much later on, I first need to be able to detect the connection type.
    I was was wondering whether there is some documentation/code samples about the same ?
    Thanks a lot,
    Abhijeet

    Thanks for the information...let me explain now...
    hi:
    reply inline --
    I am trying ... build an application that detectsthe
    kind of internet
    connection (Dial-up, T1, DSL etc) that you areusing
    i don't think there's a Java API for doing this
    intrinsically.
    on the other hand, there one easy (yet not very
    reliable) way
    of detecting type of connection...
    xfer speed | type of connection
    -----------------+-------------------
    0 - 50kbps | dial-up
    50 - 130kbps | ISDN
    130kbps - 1Mbps | DSL
    1-1.5Mbps | T1
    400MB-more | Cable
    but these figures are idealistic, and there are some
    overlaps.
    generally these figures hold only in few countries
    around the
    world... not even all US networks guarantee these
    values...
    and infact you can have variations which deviate...
    fractional-T1, HDSL, ADSL, SDSL, DSL-Lite, and to top
    it all
    the service-provider may choose to limit the
    port-speeds...
    so in short there is no very well defined way to get
    around
    this... in all the above cases except dial-up, the
    endpoint
    connectivity on the host processor is an Ethernet
    card, which
    in turn would be connected to a router... so, how can
    you say
    what technology router uses to get onto the WAN... of
    course
    without some proprietary API's that the router may
    provide,
    or some SNMP MIB's that router may support... !!!Ok ... I should have been a little more specific here, actually its not that complicated.. I just want to be able to distinguish whether the user is on a dial-up or a permanenet connection ( Modem VS T1-,DSL, Cable ) .... if I can do that much.. its fine...
    >
    and then disconnects it. what do you mean by disconnect... ??? is it
    disconnecting the
    modem, or the total LAN connectivity towards all other
    hosts
    or a particular host ??? for modem disconnection,
    JTAPI etc.
    or Java Serial port control might help... (not
    sure)... for
    others, updating the routing-table on the host (using
    JNI) or
    bringing down an ethernet-interface etc. would be
    required...so then ... the question of disconnection is applicable only in case of a modem-dial up kind of connection.. I'll look into the JTAPI or SerialPort control working.

  • Detect double tap of a button

    I am creating an app for very young children and want to keep them out of the settings screen within my game.
    I was planning to do this by requiring a double tap on the settings button but not sure how to detect a double tap
    The app is for iPad only.

    Setting doubleclickenabled won't help in this case, because that only works for textfields under iOS. You can just use a MouseEvent.CLICK listener, and make a note of the getTimer(). If the new click is less than a certain amount of time since the last one, then it's a double tap. You could go further and make sure that a third tap doesn't happen too soon, otherwise the kids could just frantically tap on the button to get through.
    Here's something useful that someone made to measure any given number of taps:
    https://github.com/fljot/Gestouch
    With that you could add a listener like this:
    var doubleTap:TapGesture = new TapGesture(myButton);
    doubleTap.numTapsRequired = 2;
    doubleTap.addEventListener(GestureEvent.GESTURE_RECOGNIZED, onDoubleTap);
    private function onDoubleTap(event:GestureEvent):void
         // handle double tap!

  • Heat Tape Temperature Ramping

    Hello everyone,
    Recently, I've been able to use LabVIEW with a digital output module to switch a relay to turn on a heat tape.  Basically, if a thermocouple reading is less than the set temperature of the heat tape, the digital output sends a signal therefore switching a relay allowing the output circuit with the heat tape to complete and therefore power the heat tape.
    Though my program has been working fine, I have been wanting to add some sort of temperature ramping capability.  That is, I would like to be able to control how fast I am heating my apparatus.  Because the heat tape is either on or off (no in between temperature settings), my plan is to calculate the current rate of how fast the apparatus is heating, compare this rate to the set rate that I wish to heat at (example 5 degrees Celsius/min), and then use this comparison to control the rate at which the heat tape is turning on and off.
    Anyone have any thoughts on my p or ideas on how I should try to implement such a feature?
    Justin

    A PID controller connected to a PWM to cycle power to the heater is definitely the way to go.  You could control the heating rate directly - use the measured rate as the process variable and the desired ramp rate as the setpoint - or you could ramp the actual temperature setpoint.  The former might get you a more even heating rate, but the latter will get you better temperature control at the final temperature, and it's not that much work to ramp the setpoint.  For a slow heating system, you can generate a PWM signal in software.  Here's an example of a PID controller connected to a square wave generator to get a PWM signal:
    You can simplify this slightly by removing the "Tick Count" initial time outside the loop, and the subtraction; connect the timer output directly to the division.  It will work the same.

  • NAT type detection from a HTTP request

    Hello there
    I got two JAVA class : httpServer and httpClient. Running in two different machines. Server is listening to a HTTP port in one machine and on the other hand client is sending its machine IP from other PC to the server. But the client is behind a NAT. Now I can detect in my httpServer class that it is behind a NAT. I check the requesting IP and the IP send inside the packet payload. If they are different, I decide there is a NAT in between. But how can I know from such HTTP request-response what kind of NAT I am behind? This is important to know because with symmetric NAT
    (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_address_translation) , where the NAT binding also include the outgoing address as well, my application is having problem.
    I have solution like STUN/TURN server implementation. But I would like to know the type of NAT my client is behind without any extra deployment such as STUN or TURN server.
    Any suggestion to detect type of NAT without any extra deployment and merely from HTTP request-response JAVA APIs?
    Mohammed Jubaer Arif.

    Thanks
    It seems you are asking me to configure the NAT, may be with some programming. Or may be I should run the server class on the NAT machine.
    But my client and server classes will be all over the world. Thus I think it is not a practical solution to ask the NATs to assist me. The intelligence should be in my client and server messaging.
    So I was wondering, is there any way out for me to get the NAT type with JAVA programming, in the server side once I get a request from the client side. But without any extra deployment.
    But as you said There's not much of NAT types. :(
