D-Link DI-604 or Netgear RP614V2 ???

hi.
im going to buy a router and want end user comments on these 2.
D-Link DI-604
Netgear RP614V2
they are both priced similar and is the only 2 i am interested in or else i would have to buy online and dont want that.
also want to know if any of them have problems with the k7n2 onboard lan.
Cheers
Raven

Hi Raven,
I own the DI-604 from D-Link and I recommend it . It's rock stable, lifetime warranty and VERY easy to use. And don't know for the Netgear but, for me, the D-Link do is job.
+1 for D-Link
My opinion.

I currently have a D-Link DI-604 broadband router with windows computers.  How can I add wifi to the network for use with ipad?  Can I use AirPort Express?

Yes. You can directly connect an 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) using an Ethernet cable. The AXn would then just need to be configured as a bridge to allow the D-Link to continue to provide both NAT & DHCP services for all network clients connected to either router.
In this configuration, the AXn would broadcast a wireless network for your wireless network clients to connect to.

  • D-Link DI-604 and torrents

I`ve encountered pretty wierd problem with D-Link DI-604 router.
I have two PCs in my network, 1 slackware and 1 arch. Running azureus on slackware one gave me  no problems. But when I transfered my ~/.Azureus folder to arch computer (and of course changed router`s settings to forward azureus port to arch pc) it all started. When I run Azureus I usually get many connections. Router seems to simply block them.
Even if I have enabled port forwarding via Advanced > Virtual Server (    192.168.0.110    Both 6827 / 6827 always) Status > Log still gives me
Unrecognized attempt blocked from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:6881 to yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy UDP:6827 and so on.
After running azureus for few minutes router slows down. I get massive lag when trying to do anything with it.

Sorry for this thread, when I have posted it, opera started doing wierd stuff, so I thought I haven`t actually posted (even after refreshing page I couldn`t see my thread). So I had to post again.
    Mods, please remove this thread.
    And sorry again.

  • Router Security Settings D-Link DI-604

I just got a D-Link DI-604 WIRED (not wireless) Router.
I changed the password from the default. I disabled "UPNP" because I heard that was a good idea. I also disabled "Gaming Mode" because I don't do games. I have a G4 and a G3 hooked up to it, as well as my cable modem and a printer. Everything works.
What I am trying to find out is what other settings I should consider changing from the default settings.
There are a lot of choices, much too numerous to enumerate. I have sole control over both computers. Nobody has my permission to access my computer from the "outside". Of course, I surf the net and do normal things on it. All I want to do is make sure the "bad guys" don't get into my computer and do nasty things.
Do any of you have some general advice or websites to recommend?
    G4 QuickSilver Dual 800MHz; 512 MB SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Pioneer DVR-111D; also two G3's

The best thing to do is to block every port that you don't need. Both in and out. The you'll know which application needs which port. Try netbarrier.

  • Help replacing D-Link DI-604

Hi everybody, I was looking into replacing my DI-604 with a newer more robust router. I only have fios Internet (no tv), and have had service for about 5 years. Can I just take the d-link out and put a new router in? Do I need to transfer any settings? How should I setup the new router (dynamic, static, pppoe). I am really just trying to cleanup some of my cable clutter... So thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Defiantly PPPOE. Verizon didnt stop using PPPOE until after they stopped using the 604's. They didnt go to dhcp until they were using the 624's.
Simple. Purchase any router on the market. Connect it in place. Then follow the directions from your new router for setting up a PPPOE connection.
When it gets to the "username" and "password" for the PPPOE connection, you can use anything you want and dont have to even remember it. Verizon uses open authentication and doesnt require a username and password. The fields just have to have something in them. I personally use username for the username and password for the password, but it really doesnt matter what you put in. so long as something is in the field.
Your done. As far as basic connectivity is concerned. Now just need to set up your wireless (assuming you even use wireless)
Just remember, that verizon will not support the router you connect. (no big deal but it is something to keep in mind)

  • AX and D-Link DI 604

    Howdy
I've just moved and I'm using a new setup in my new pad. I am running a motorola surfboard cable modem into my D-Link router and then from the router to my Airport Express. The AX works great with printing and AirTunes but I cannot connect through the router yet. Is this even possible? I seem to remember it asking me if I had it run through a router and I dont see why it wouldnt work. Everything is properly connected and all components are properly physically setup so its gotta be a software/firmware setup issue. Any ideas? Thoughts?

Ethernet. I'm running cat-5 out the back of the router to the ethernet jack on the Airport Express. I can use the internet when I remove the router from the equation and just wire the cable modem direct to the AX.

  • D-Link DI-604 problem

    Hello,
I'm having a problem with iChat and my router. I seem to have a problem connecting with some poeple, but not all. I know the problem is at my end because if I connect my computer directly to the Internet, without going through the router, I no longer have a problem. However, behind the router, it becomes impossible for me to do an AV chat with certaine people.
I looked through the help documentation for iChat, and honestly, I'm at a loss as to what to do now. The information they give about configuring a router for iChat doesn't seem to fit my router and any way I can see. Perhaps someone can help me.
I posted three screen shots of the three pages where my router lets me open ports in my router : Virtual Server, Applications, and Firewall. Here are the URL's :
    Virtual Server : http://homepage.mac.com/rlapalme/router01.jpg
    Applications : http://homepage.mac.com/rlapalme/router02.jpg
    Firewall : http://homepage.mac.com/rlapalme/router03.jpg
First of all, I'm not sure in which of those three areas I'm supposed to open the ports. Second, none of those areas allow me to do what is written in the help document. First of all, I can't simply open a list of ports, because I have to specify if it's UPD or TCP, or both. That means I have to go with the second solution proposed, which would mean I have to open ports for packets leaving, and other ports for packets entering. The problem here is that my router allows me to specify any combination of public ports, but only a RANGE of trigger ports, which doesn't appear to be a solution, if I read the help documents correctly.
    So...
Can anyone tell me, looking at the screen shots, how I'm supposed to configure my router for iChat to work without a hitch ?
And getting rid of the router isn't an option : there are two computers in my home...
iMac, flat panel (700)   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi Tim,
    That is a usefull site.
Unfortuantely it is short of port 5678 on UDP which is where the AV invite come is on.
It is also short of port 5190on UDP which is also neended.
The info may be a bit dated as Jabber needs three TCP ports 5220, 5222, and 5223
It also specifically mentions it does not support the European DI-604
The PortForward.com site says that the 604 does not have enough ports entries spaces for Port Forwarding.
In it's Triggering Section it has this but agian the info is wrong.
There is two reasons for this
    1) The site promotes it's own Port Triggering app for windows so the actual trigger ports are not shown
    2) It mixes the wrong ports to the wrong Protocols and also the wrong side of the iChat services.
There is a DI-604v2 which has Port Forwarding here
The Trigger ports for this are also wrong
    The Triggers should state
5678 on UDP to Trigger 5060, 5678, 16384-16403 on UDP
5190 on TCP to trigger 5190 on UDP
5190 on UDP to trigger 5190 on UDP
    For AIM Side
    Trigger 5222 to trigger 5220,5222, 5223
    Trigger 5223 to trigger 5220, 5222, 5223 (Googletalk login)
    For Jabber all TCP
Bonjur should be four single lines like the 5190 above
    5297 on UDP
    5298 on UDP and TCP
    5353 on UDP.
Port Triggering is needed if you do not have UPnP and have multiple computers

  • Problems with D-Link DI-604 router

I have two PCs in my LAN. They both are connected to a router.
One PC is running Slackware 10.2 while another is running Arch 7.1 pre1.
When I was using Azureus on Slackware one, it caused no problems.
Then I have transfered my ~/.Azureus folder to Arch and changed router`s settings to forward port to my another PC. (Advanced > Virtual Server > 192.168.0.110 Both 6827 / 6827 always).
After like a minute or so my router stops responding or slows down alot.
When I look at logs I see "Unrecognized attempt blocked from xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:15485 to my.ip.yyy.yyy UDP:6827".
    How come?

So i have removed my port forwarding rule, enabled UPnP, azureus stopped giving me errors and stuff, everything would be just fine, but:
    - I can only download torrents, uploading is always at 0 B/s.
    - Router is still slow as hell when running azureus.
Also, nmap localhost and nmap my_real_ip shows zero open ports, shouldn`t at least azureus port be open?

  • How do i get AE to work as well as old d-link access point

i have a d-link DSL-604+ which is great - works for broadband acts as a hub and provides wireless at one end of my long thin house. my main mac is plugged into it and works great. i ran some time ago a cat5e cable under the floor boards when we moved in to the other end where the wireless doesnt reach (just) and there i had a d-link dwl-900ap+ connected by the wire to the main router. it was setup with the same ssid and a different channel. my windows work laptop - depending on which end of the house i was would pick up the ssid and connect to the stronger signal no problems i could even walk up and down and it would switch over. now they are both b only and i have recently bought a new airport express with the plan of using airtunes upgrading speed of link and eventually changing my laptop to a mac. now on the old system my router would act as DHCP giving a 192.168 address. i seem unable to setup the AE to do the same thing. i can stream audio to my hifi no problems - this is cool. i can set it up to create a wireless network and give it a different ssid and channel but it doesnt seem to want to choose the same ssid. i can manually change it to the same - is this what i should do? however when i do this the AE trys to act as DHCP and gives a 10.1 address to the laptop which is odd - if i then move the laptop constantly tries connecting to both APs and changes its ip address. if i tell the AE to use 192.168 it says this conflicts with a wan setting. is there a way of saying get dhcp from elsewhere?
i am sure this is really straightforward and i am missing something. the dlink was easy i told it it was an access point - my network was called xxx and that the network had dhcp and it just worked.
should i be using the join a wireless network option instead of the create a network? but isnt this for people who are extending their networks wirelessly? i ran a cable.
    thanks

i seem unable to setup the AE to do the same thing. i can stream audio to my hifi no problems - this is cool. i can set it up to create a wireless network and give it a different ssid and channel but it doesnt seem to want to choose the same ssid. i can manually change it to the same - is this what i should do?
Yes you will manually need to enter the SSID.
however when i do this the AE trys to act as DHCP and gives a 10.1 address to the laptop which is odd
You also need to configure the AirPort Express (AX) to bridge (not share a single IP address).
should i be using the join a wireless network option instead of the create a network? but isnt this for people who are extending their networks wirelessly?
You should be using the "create a network" option.

  • Apple TC and Netgear Router behaving as one Wireless Network

Having had a problem recently with an HP 7520 printer suddenly begin to disconnect and reconnect to the wireless network of my Apple TC I have tried several workarounds.
My setup includes a Netgear Modem/ Router (providing wireless network A) which is connected to an Apple TC (providing wireless network B) by an ethernet cable. The Netgear hands out ip addresses to all devices on my network and the TC is in Bridge Mode and provides the wireless network that all my computers and devices connect to.
To try and identify if the issue is with my printer or something to do with my network or routers I tried connecting my printer to the Netgear router (wireless network A) seperate from all the other devices on my network which are still connected to the TC (wireless network B). This seems to have stopped the printer from repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting from the wireless network so it looks like a recent firmware update to the Apple TC may be the cause for the repeated disconnections.
As the printer is now on a different network to all my other devices I would, from all I've ever read about networking, not expect to be able to print from devices on wireless network B to the printer now on wireless network A but I can. All devices are connecting wirelessly to my networks. The only wired link is from the Netgear to the TC which if disconnected stops the ability to print from devices on wireless network B to the printer on network A. It is as if the ethernet connection between the two routers is connecting the two wireless networks together. Bothe wireless networks have a different SSID and different types of security and passwords. Is this normal behaviour? Am I missing something obvious?
    Thanks for any help offered.

Sorry I have to copy and paste to just read your reply now.. stupid site.
If I understand you correctly in effect the TC is a client of the Netgear router so is just another access point on the Network. Rather than connecting to the Netgear via a wireless connection, it is connected with an Ethernet cable and receives an IP address from the Netgear like any other device. Although the Netgear and TC create 2 different wireless networks/ access points it is actually just one network?
Yes, all just one big happy network now.
Any idea why my printer has started disconnecting/ reconnecting approx every 5 mins from the TC wireless network? This has only just started in the last couple of months and does not appear to happen when the printer is connected via the Netgear wireless network connection.
I think you mentioned in your first post a suspicion about the latest firmware.. it is really poor.. downgrade to 7.6.1 and I think it will work better.
But also remember HP is a PC company.. have you setup your TC with all nice SMB names.. short, no spaces pure alphanumeric.. not nasty apple names with horrible worms.. like these, '  and spaces..
Also too much auto .. fix and lock everything down.. mode, channels, etc.
Another question you might be able to help with. Would it make any difference, good or bad, if I just used the Netgear as a modem and let the TC do all the routing functions?
The Netgear must be able to be bridged and the TC has to be able to get authentication.. I am not sure if this is adsl or cable.. but if adsl and your ISP uses pppoe then yes it is possible and routing with the TC is ok.. no better than the Netgear though.. and worse .. much worse if you have PC or games consoles. All of which want upnp which TC cannot supply.

  • Using Airport Express to play music while surfing the web via netgear

Can I play music over my airport express (airtunes), while simultaneosly surfing via a different wireless router. As it stands I have been unable to do this, because I have to set my wireless connection to one or the other. When I link up to my NETGEAR for browsing, the remote speakers in itunes become unavailable.
Has anyone found a solution to this?

Hi, thanks for your help. It got me reading, and here's what I figured out:
The problem was when I originally set the profile I had my internet cable plugged into the airport express; So the set up assistant assumed that i would be using that as my internet connection. I just had to re-setup with the airport ONLY plugged into the stereo.
    Again, thanks for your help.

  • Can you help with D-link and two airport express stations

I currently run a Dlink 604 wireless and 1 Airport express for iTunes in my front room.
A Express is also linked to the Dlink via a cable.
All works fine - G4 dual running OS x 10.3.9
I would like help with a couple of things please:-
    1. I have no current security on my Express, so anybody can use the net connection through it. How do I change this and still be able to use my tower and laptop?
    2. I have a second Express from work that I would like to use upstairs. It does work but requires me to swap the network to use it for iTunes and then I have no internet.
It was formatted at work so has different ip numbers etc.
Can I make this station join my exisitng network?
As my lap top is wireless will I be able to surf through it upstairs?
    Thanks
    JohnO

    1. You need to open the Express's configuration in Airport Admin Utility and change the Wireless Security settings to WEP or, preferably, WPA or WPA2. When you attempt to connect to the network from your computers, you will be prompted for the password.
    2. The easiest thing to do is to hard reset the second Express and then use the Airport Setup Assistant to configure the second Express to join and extend the first Express's network. To do a hard reset, hold down the reset button until the LED starts flashing rapidly.
BTW, I know it can work because I have the exact same setup (D-Link DI-604 and two Expresses in an extended wireless network).

  • Is it compatible with Netgear products

im thinking of buying airport extreme and link it to my netgear dgs834gv3
    is it compatible
and is it easy to set up

    is it compatible
It all depends on what you mean by "link".
Yes, if you plan to connect the AirPort Extreme to the Netgear product using a wired Ethernet connection.
No, if you plan to connect the AirPort Extreme and have it "extend" the wireless network from the Netgear product using wireless only.

  • Cannot enable wi-fi device (Netgear WNA3100) network connection although message is 'enabled'

I am using Microsoft driver for the above device. Drivers loaded ok, device manager seems to think it's fine. Device seems just fine (blue light flashing as it should). Anti-virus/external firewall (Zonealarm Exteme) etc all shut down (to find problem).
Primary ethernet connection disabled. Network and sharing Center (Change adapter settings) allows me to enable, says enabling, then enabled, however it never changes status and remains disabled.
Netgear driver (latest for win7 64 which I use) installs fine until final part 'detecting adapter' which fails - never gets there and needs to be forcefully terminated. I've removed the Netgear software entirely.
I've changed USB ports and done just about as much as I can. From a management point of view I hate windows7. To get to simple information it is far more difficult than previous OS's. As an example, I have no idea how to get my OS version number. I know
it is Windows7 64Bit Home edition but thats all I can say.
The network adapter works perfectly under XP-sp3 and this is dual-boot machine so hardware is obviously identical (apart from SSD boot for Win7 and HDD for XP).
Any help appreciated - or any questions I can answer to help me out!
    Thanks, Dave.

Its a bit old thread, but I want to update it with my (Netgear support actually) solution
    to this problem.
Here is my question to Netgear support (10/29/2011 12:32:00 PM):
    1. Windows 7 sp1 64-bit
There is a problem with the driver for this, I have tried so many different things now, but no result.
When I install the software/driver for WNA3100, when it ask me to connect the WNA3100, I do but it doesent find it...
In Windows device manager it looks fine, but in network connections its only de-activated, and I cant activate it.
I have tried to instal the driver from CD, from internet with windows update, and I downloaded driver from Netgear support (WNA3100_v1.1.3.22_Setup.exe) but always same result, FAILED.
I also googled this problem, and I see many others having the same issue with Win7 64-bit.
Is there a new driver comming soon, or should I return this?
Here is what Netgear answered (10/29/2011 3:11:00 PM):
We just tried the installation on win 7 64 here ourselfs, so please try the following:
    1. Uninstall the software on the adapter by pressing Start- Programs- Netgear- choose uninstall.
    2. Uninstall the drivers of the adapter (when it's connected to the PC) by pressing Start- Control Panel- Device manager- Network cards- find the adapter and choose uninstall.
    3. Disconnect the adapter from the PC.
    4. Open the link below:
    http://support.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/13071
Mark "show all version" and download "WNA3100 Initial Release Software Version 1.1.2.16"
    5. If you get an error message in the installation go to Start- Control Panel- Device Manager- Network cards- Double click on the adapter- Driver- Upgrade driver- Search automatically for updated drivers.
In step 5 you need an internet connection so please use a wire to get internet in this step.
When this is done you should be able to finish the installation.
If this doesn't work please let us know and we will help you further!
