D-link DPR 1260 Print Server nightmare

I have a D-link DPR 1260 print server connected via ethernet to my network. I have set it up so I can print to an Epson Picturemate240 from a PC running XP. This works fine.
I have read all the posts everywhere on the DPR 1260 and so far nothing can make it print from the imac, running Leopard. I can add the printer using LPD and the print servers ip address and printer queue name but nothing happens.
I get the following error /usr/libexec/cups/filter/rastertogutenprint.5.1 failed, does this mean there is a problem with the mac before to gets to the print server?
If I cannot solve this problem now it is going in the bin!
I have not attempted to set it up wirelessly yet as there is no point unless I can print from a Mac.

I reset the printing system but I still get the same error message. I tried using HP and LPD but still no luck.
If I connect the printer directly to the mac I can print fine and I have two other network printers connected directly to the network which work fine. It is only when I connect a printer to the print server that it goes wrong.

Hook 10.3.9 up to d-Link DPR-1260 Print Server?

I have added a d-Link DRP-1260 Print server to my home LAN so I could print to my HP 5550 from my Windows laptops and my desk-top Mac. Lap tops work fine, but I don't seem to set the Mac up correctly to communicate with the Print Server.
Anyone know the magic trick or where I might find it?

Joe, I've now downloaded and installed the drivers you pointed out and I have a driver for my HP 5550 now installed so I can select it when I add a printer. But I still can't print through my print server. It seems like I am very close to success, but not quite there.
Unfortunately, all this is "cookbook" to me as I don't actually understand how it is supposed to work. For instance, how does my d-link DWL-122 USB Adapter know to transmit printer info to my print router rather than to my LAN router? or, how do I find out my print server queue name?
To me, it's all magic. Do you have any further advice for me? Is there a "Hooking your print server to your Mac, for dummy's" book?
Am I just on a bad path here and should be using some other technique to get connected?

Getting an "uncaught exception" error when trying to Scan a document via D-Link DPR-1260 print sever (worked in prior versions of Firefox)

I'm using the interface (Firmware V1.24) on a D-Link DPR-1260 Print Server, connected to an Epson Printer/Scanner. When I hit the "Scan" button, I get an "uncaught exception" error. This firmware has been working for years (at least back to Firefox 3.x), but no longer works with Firefox V6.0

Nothing really, but... The firmware runs in a web browser. It's been working fine for years and no longer works since I got the latest version of Firefox. It does, however, still work in IE (V9) so I do have a way to use my existing hardware.
I tried D-Link and Google search for any information about this, but came up empty. I was hoping that there might be similar problems with other software with Firefox 6.0.2 and someone might have a work-around or there might be a patch coming soon. At the very least, someone associated with Firefox might be interested that they've apparently broken something that used to work.

DPR-1260 Print Server

I am trying to setup my new DPR-1260 print server and it works find with my work windows machine but I can not seem to get it to work with my home MacBook Pro. It is talking (I think) back and forth between the print server and the laptop but I can not seem to pick the right printer driver. I have a Canon MP500 and it is working fine if hooked up directly through a USB port, but the print utility does not show it when I try to add the print server (LPD to a IP address and port). How can I find the MP500 driver through the printer utility program?

I just bought the same print server and can't get it set up in OS X at all.
I've tried LPD and IPP with the correct queue name, but it won't take the printer.
The printer is an HP PSC 1315xi (shows up as 'psc1310'). The PrintFab CUPS driver doesn't have my printer and I used some "Foomatic / hpijs" driver for Linux which doesn't work either. Windows looks like its using IP printing, but in OS X, I can't figure out where the correct driver is and the HP software installed is using some "HP All-In-One 4.0" driver that only shows up when the printer is installed via USB. I can't find it otherwise.
I've tried the CUPS interface with lpd://0.0.0.0/psc1310 and lpd://0.0.0.0:9100/psc1310 -- 0.0.0.0 is just an example. I've also tried ipp in the same configuration. I'm thinking it might just be a driver, but I've tried the generic DeskJet drivers and they don't work either.
Any ideas?

Dlink DPR 1260 Print Server does not allow scanning anymore in 10.5

The DPR 1260 was working fine under 10.4 on my PB G4 allowing shared printing and scanning. When I tried to use it under 10.5 on a MacBook, the print function still works but none of the advanced functions like Scanning from a shared USB Multifunction Scanner/Printer (Photosmart 3100) work. Any ideas?

Come on - are you saying I dont know if I am using Windows or Mac OS X?? I've been using Macs only for about 17 years now
No - its NOT multifunction via NETWORK - but Scanning via the Browser window. You can (on Mac OS 10.4) initiate a scan via a web browser and the resulting image is loaded in the browser window - you can then right click and then save the image. Works very well - on 10.4 - but on 10.5 (or on Intel Macs), the browser page for scan is not accessible anymore.

HP Laserjet M1005 MFP won't work with a DLINK DPR-2000 Print server.

I have an HP Laserjet M1005 MFP and am trying to connect it to a DLINK DPR-2000 Print server. After the setup no matter what I do the Laserjet shows up as offline on the print server. The print server recognises it as the correct model it's just always offline aned hence I can get nothing to print.
I have done the latest firmware upgrade on the printer to 20120910.
Any ideas?

Sounds like you are having an issue getting this printer to be recognized fully on the network the print server is set up on. First of all, what all can you tell me about the network environment it is operating on? I would suggest that you try installing the PL6 drivers fro this laserjet after removing the original software and see if that gives you greater control over the machine and its functions :

The Model is a DI-704UP. does anyone know how i can access the printer to my G5 ?
talked to D-Link and Apple and they have no solution.

According to this page on the D-Link website about your product, the router includes a print server for Windows and that the software is for Windows only.
However, this page also on D-Link's website does offer you an unsupported solution.

Will a D-Link DP-301P+ print server work with an HPLaserJet 5MP

Setup includes the following:
HP LaserJet 5MP (90's model and this thing is a true workhorse!)
Apple Airport Extreme wireless router
Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 (OSX.4.11)
iMac (OSX.6)
Mac Mini (OSX.6)
I purchased a D-Link DP-301P+ Fast Ethernet Print Server, with the intent to plug it into the printer's parallel port (36 pin) and then plugging an ethernet cable between the server and the wireless router. The only catch is that in order to plug the server into the printer, I will have to dremel out a small portion of the exterior casing of the printer (this is on the back side so it won't be noticeable). Thus my two questions......will this setup even work? Are there any special software settings needed? Thanks for helping out with this.

Will D-Link DPR-1260 wireless print server work with Leopard?

I am fairly new to Mac and have a HP Photosmart 7350 printer and would like to use this wirelessly with my new Imac with Leopard as well as my laptop with Windows XP.
I know it will work with Windows but keep reading that print servers are not working well with Leopard and do not want to open the box if it will not work. I noticed on the D-link website that it says software is only supported on 10.2-10.4 systems.

You have two issues going at once.
Driver - There are two kinds of print driver on OS X (not like Windows) - Carbon and CUPS. CUPS drivers are required to use the standard network print protocols provided in OS X by the CUPS system - IP printing and Windows printing. But HP doesn't provide CUPS drivers for non-postscript printers. They provide Carbon drivers where they have limited the driver to USB only. To get a CUPS driver for your model, install the 3 part hpijs:

Print & Fax prefs setup -
I call your attention to page 19 of the print server manual. Dlink simply has "no clue" about OS X. The easiest comm protocol for you is HP Jetdirect, which equals TCP/IP raw port 9100. That is for USB port 1 -- for the other USB ports you will need to use advanced setup in Print & Fax.
So, plug the printer into USB port 1 and set up using IP printer > HP Jetdirect protocol, selecting your new hpijs driver.

HP PSC 1315, Brother HL-2040 & D-Link DPG321 wireless print server

Hi all...I've had the D-Link wireless print server for awhile, and originally had an ancient Samsung attached to it.
Now though, the old Samsung printer is gone and I'm using the print server in my office with my new Brother HL-2040, which connected to my Mac effortlessly...super easy.
The problem comes in hooking up my HP PSC 1315 AIO to the wireless print server's second port. I've read a ton of postings in the last couple of days indicating the HP driver won't support this, so I downloaded the hpijs driver.
The Brother printer is hooked up to queue 1 (ps-5c714d-u1) per our documentation, and I'm trying to get the HP hooked up to queue 2 (ps-5c714d-u2), but absolutely nothing will print to it. One note - I'm not getting any error messages. When I pull up the printer to view the jobs, it looks like it's completed printing, so I'm not sure if it's stuck somewhere in the print server or what.
The HP works fine when connected directly via USB to my MacBook Pro - so the issue isn't with the printer itself or the cabling.
We CAN however, manage to print to the HP from our Windows XP desktop in the other room, interestingly enough.

No, I didn't. Originally when I was doing all my research, I thought I only had to download that if I had Mac OS 10.2 or below...in retrospect now I'm not sure why I thought that.
I've now downloaded the file though, and have no idea what to do with it. In reading all of the installation info, I'm thinking it might just be easier to walk over to the printer and plug it into the USB port of my MacBook when I need to use it!

Wrt610n v2 usb links as a print server?

Can the usb link on 610n be used as a print server (and not just for storage)? I know 160NL cannot be used for printing, so wondering if the 610n can.

even with an alternative firmware? then what linksys router can be used in such a way? I mean if I connect my printer to it via usb, would I be able to print on it off my, say, wireless notebook?

Yes. Think this should be posted on the printing board. That said, I have a similar set up, D-Link wireless router and wireless print server.
I found that I could not rely on Bonjour getting the printers to work. I suggest you take the following steps:
1. Open the printer browser and click on add a new printer.
2. Select the IP printer
3. As the protocol select Line Printer Daemon
4. Input the IP address for your wireless printer. I found I had to assign my print server a static address, which was 192.168.0.10
5. Input the Queue. This is probably takes the form of something like "PS-xxxxxx-U1" where the x's are numbers and U1 represents the USB printer you've assigned to the U1 port when you set up the wireless print server.
6. Select your printer at the bottom of the browser window and click Add.
This is the only way I was able to get my HP's to print.

You need two things -
First, the HP-provided driver (on OS X) was written to only support direct USB printing, so you need a CUPS driver. Check here to find that and install it:

(click on "printers" in the blue bar and look up your printer.)
Next, you need to read your print server manual and figure out what comm protocols are supported and then enter the right info into the Add printer dialog. For example, the print server's queue name (also called port name) is a required entry (not default) for the IP > LPD and IPP protocols. If the print server supports TCP/IP raw or port 9100 or socket printing, those terms are all equal to the IP > HP Jetdirect protocol on OS X. That protocol doesn't need a queue name, so it's usually easier for Mac users. I think L1 or P1 are typical queue names on Linksys servers.

Need help getting my MacBook to work a with a D-Link print server

I'm trying to set up my MacBook Pro running OS X Ver 10.4.11 to print to a HP PSC 2210 All in One printer attached to a D-Link DP-301U print server. I'm actualy a Windows user and set this up and it works fine on the Windows side. My brother in law here is the Mac user and I can't seem to get this going.
I did install Gimp Print Ver 4.2 and the printer is listed as a support device at their website. But, the printer model doesn't appear in the list when I try and add the IP printer. I did try a LaserJet 4l driver and DeskJet 860c - they don't work. In the print queue, the status says "Network host '<IP address of D-Link> is busy; will retry in 30 seconds."
Any ideas? D-Link support was horrible, claiming that they don't support Macs - despite what it says on the box.
Any insights on next steps would be appreciated.

There is some stuff on Macs at teh D-Link site, but its not verry useful. But, re: the queue, name it appears to me that the PS-<servername>-P1 convention comes from a print server with a parallel interface and this is the LPT port name. This is a USB printer and that's why we get the PSC2210 name which I think is the Windows name I gave the Printer. At any rate, the D-Link doc claims that you should leave the queue name blank for a single port server. I beleive that the issue is that this is not a postscript printer which hopefully I can get at the alternate site.
I am curious why this is different on a Mac than in Windows. If the printer works if direct connected, why does the Mac OS need the special drivers to extend the connection through a network? I'm curious as I mooonlight setting up home networks and I don't want to be a "windows only" solution. Oh, and would this work on the Mac if I had selected an Apple print server or wireless router with printer port built in?

Lpr printing to Print Server (D-Link DP-G321)

Am using a D-Link DP-G321 Print Server to make two printers available to home network of PCs and an iMac-10.3.9. The printers are an HP DJ 952C and Canon PIXMA iP8500. Printer Setup Utility is working fine, allowing an lpr connection to the hp printer queue, using the Apple supplied HP DJ 900 series driver. What I lack is a Canon PIXMA iP8500 driver. How is a Canon PIXMA iP8500 driver added to the list of supported printers.....

Network printing requires a CUPS driver, like the Gimp-Print driver you used for the HP. Canon doesn't provide CUPS drivers and hasn't cooperated with the open source community, so no Canon newer than 6 yr old is supported with a free CUPS driver. You can buy a CUPS driver for the Canon from www.printfab.net.
