D-Link USB wireless adapter

I have a D-Link wireless router and USB dongle package, it works with my windows laptops perfectly well.
I am looking for a way to use the USB wireless dongle with a G5 tower so I can use the Mac as a web machine.
There is a software driver for the dongle but I have no idea what information on the different tabs I should enter, so any ideas what this should be?
The user manual is for windows, there is information on how to set up for Mac, despite the inclusion of the Mac driver on the CD.
The dongle is a D-Link DWA-111, user manual here:
ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/wireless/dwa-111/DWA-111ManualEnglish.pdf
thanks for any help

hi....
i use a d-link dwl g122 dongle that has the same RT73 ralink chip.
the d-link driver that came with the CD just did one thing to my G5 powermac: kernelpanic!
after some searching on the web i found out, that it is best not to use the d-link driver at all, but to use the original ralink driver for the chip provided here:
http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=3
load the "USB(RT257X/RT2671/RT2500)" driver. that's the driver, that will give you the wireless utility as it is shown in BD's picture.
before you install it, make sure that you uninstall the d-link driver completely. there should be an uninstaller in the dmg or zip file, that was on the CD.
then install the ralink driver and after that connect your d-link dongle. the wireless utility should pop up after a minute or so, but first you've to go to the network preference pane and confirm, that there is a new port detected.
then you can go back to the wireless utility, that by then should be searching for available wireless networks in the site survey tab. choose yours and enter the password when asked. after that safe the connection to a profile.

  • WIFI problems solved with D-Link USB WIFI adapter...

I have a brand new Macbook Air and I have persistent problems connecting to my home wifi network. Sometimes I can connect to the router but not the internet, but usually Airport won't connect at all: it keeps asking me for the password for our home network (even though it's stored), so I re-enter the password, but it still can't connect. When it gets to this point I know that I either have to live without internet for the rest of the day, or disrupt my work and everyone else in the household by rebooting my computer and reseting the router (sometimes just one of these actions will work, but it's unpredictable).
So I bought a D-Link DWA-125 USB wireless adapter and installed drivers from Ralink (http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php?s=3) and it pretty much solves the issue.
I don't know what further proof Apple needs that this is a problem with the Air and not the internet/router/etc. It's rather comical that I have to use an ugly old USB adapter to get a brand new Macbook Air to connect to internet in my own home.

I've had my Macbook for 2 yrs and the wifi basically never worked - only when I'm right next to the router, at school, or of course the Apple Store. I tried to get apple to fix it under AppleCare, but since it was working perfectly in the store, they said there was nothing they could do.
If your Mac works well at school, or the Apple Store but not at home, the problem definetly  is not the Mac and therefore there is no need to buy a external usb wifi device.
You better will fix the settings of your home router and after that your Mac will be fast and smooth on your home wifi.
I've had only on very rare situations a problem with d-link routers over the years and think (if not damaged) even your d-link will work pretty good with your Mac.
Would you be so kind and explain the settings of your home router and what model it is?

  • D-Link PCI Wireless Adapter

    Hello,
Does anyone know where I can locate some device drivers for a D-Link PCI Wireless Adapter??
I have a D-Link DWL G510 adapter and so far have been unable to find any dirvers for it.
I called D-Link and they do not support any unix/linux device drivers.
    Thanks!

I'm in a similar situation you are; I have a Linksys Wireless USB Apapter, ver 2.8, can't find drivers.
Lynnsoft: www.lynnsoft.com provide wireless drivers for other linksys and netgear products.
Good luck. Re-post if you find any good info.

  • My usb wireless adapter keeps disconnecting

So, I just bought this TP-Link TL-WMN721N 150mbps wireless adapter, and it has this issue. It keeps disconnecting, all the time, i've downloaded the latest drivers and i'm pretty sure it's not a malware problem, also tried connecting to different usb ports.
    Any guesses?

    Hi,
You can also temporarily turn off your anti-virus software, since some anti-virus might not recognize the new component installed.
I noticed that you've had the latest driver, did you get the driver by manually viewing the device manufacture website to look for the latest version?
This issue can also be caused by incompatibility, Please make sure the usb wireless adapter is compatible with your Windows version.
Please also reinstall the usb controllers as a test
First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:
    1)    In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the Host Controller, click "Uninstall" and click "OK".
    2)    Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".
Then, restart your computer and your windws will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

  • Can I use a USB wireless adapter with my iMac G4 Flat Panel (it has no Airport card).

I have just salvaged an iMac G4 15-inch Flat Panel from the skip and now have it running Mac OS X Tiger 10,4. It has a 700mhz cpu, 80Gb hard drive and 512mb of Ram. No airport card is fitted so I was wondering if a USB wireless adapter could be used instead. I have a Belkin F5D8055ea USB wireless adapter fitted and the system recognises the device, this is as far as I have got as I am a complete novice on Apple/Mac machines. Anyone any ideas please?

If the device is recognised, see if you can located your wi-fi network using Airport Utility.

  • Issues with usb wireless adapter

    Hi
    Please excuse my ignorance.
I have an imac (about 2 years old) with a built in airport card. I am trying to use a usb wireless adapter. It has a realtek rtl8187. we have a wifi network here that works with my pc using this adapter but i cant get it to work on the mac. You have to sling the adapter on the window sill but it picks it up fine.
I have installed the supplied software (obviously the mac one!) and it installs the software and driver. After i have restarted, and plug the thing in, it tells me to turn on my wlan card on the supplied software?? It shows up in the listing on network settings as ethernet adapter ((null)). I cannot find any setting to turn on my wireless card, i thought that was airport?
The airport picks up the network but the signal is too weak to connect, hence the adapter with a bit more guts....
I have this beautiful mac, colecting dust and am having to use a pc!
If i connect the usb adapter without installing the software, it constantly has a box popping up in network settings saying that an external device has changed settings! it doesnt stop doing it, until you delete the location...
Can anyone help? I may be being thick and dont have a wlan card or something or airport will not allow me to use this thing. I only just started getting into macs when i moved to spain, where it has sat colecting dust for 3 months.
    I would appreciate any advice.
    Thanks
    Richard

    TNHusker, welcome to the forum.
Cisco makes a router that is good for two-story homes.  I have used it for several years.  My router / hotspot is on the second floor and my Blu-ray player and laptop are on the first floor.  Both work extremely well with the router.  They also make a USB, AM10, that works very nicely with a desktop without a wireless card.
I have had a few problems with both, but have always been helped successfully by Cisco Customer Service.  They are very good.

  • D-Link PCI Wireless Adapter Drivers?

Hi, have you found any drives yet for the dlink ? I am trying to use Solaris on a Toshiba Satellite, and would like to use a dlink wireless card, my card is a Dlink DWL-G630 and comes with Drivers for XP but nothing for linux/unix. I might add that it is supported by other linux distros and I'm wondering why Sun isn't supporting this plug and play yet, how can I wander around with my laptop if I won't be able to pick up a signal? thanks

  • Will airport work with a simple USB wireless adapter?

I'm considering setting my folks up with one or maybe two airports for wireless audio through their house. They don't have any wireless gear at the moment. Will it be ok to buy a cheap USB wireless adapter for their PC to transmit to the airports?
    I'm considering this one: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/107691
My worry is that it might not send a strong enough signal. What do you reckon?
    thanks!

I don't have first-hand knowledge of this particular USB wireless adapter, but it should be compatible with the AirPort base stations, as it is 802.11b/g-compliant and supports both WEP & WPA encryption.

  • Having trouble setting up Ralink USB wireless adapter

    Hi all,
I recently bought a usb adapter for my G3 which is running Tiger. Downloaded the most recent driver from the Ralink website and it appeared to install fine, however when I double click on the 'Wireless Utility' app to configure the adapter it won't launch.
It doesn't bob in the system tray, it just does nothing. The adapter itself is recognised and shows up in the profiler but I can't use it as I can't put in the WEP password or anything.
So far what I have done is repaired the disk permissions and tried reinstalling the driver several times.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
Are there any alternative programs I could use to configure the adapter with? When I open the network panel it shows up as 'en2', but then if I click 'assist me' the airport option is greyed out.

Not sure what else you can try. The answer may lie out there on the internet somewhere if you could just happen upon it during a search. Hope something turns up for you.
PS I vaguely remember that when I installed the software for my Macpower Newer Tech USB wireless device there were instructions that were very specific about the installation. They said it was very important to either install all the software first and then connect the USB device or vice versa. I can't remember which way it was. Maybe you could give it one more shot and uninstall everything, disconnect your USB device and start over from scratch. I'd try installing all the drivers before connecting the device.

  • USB wireless adapter - interface name keeps changing

I have used different usb wireless (G) adapters with my 12" Powerbook G4.
Each was automatically assigned an interface name (BSD) such as en2, en4.
I recently updated to a Wireless N dongle (D-Link DWA140) which works great with my new Belkin Wireless N router.
I have had a few connection problems where the dongle was named as enNull.
After rebooting and re-entering the ip address via DHCP, I noticed that the same dongle has been renamed each time e.g First as en5 then en6, 7 and 8. It's now called en10
It works fine but is it possible to reset the name/number of this wireless adaptor using something like ifconfig in the shell Or some other way. I understand that en0 is built-in ethernet and en1 is Airport. I have 2 other dongles which are still identified as en 2 and en4. But my current dongle has an inflation problem and I would like to reset it if possible to a lower number.
Is this possible or am I mad to even consider it?
    any help welcome.

That is very strange that PCI cards would keep changing names between reboots. Maybe you should investigate that to figure out what's going on. Check the dmesg and journalctl after each reboot and see what the interface is named as. Maybe that will give you some clues as to what "external" program is responsible in naming the interfaces.

  • Usb wireless adapter for solaris 10 on sparc platform

    Hi,
First and foremost, I hope that this stands in the right place.
I need to configure my Sun Fire V240 to connect to my wireless network (wifi).
Just wondering do we have the list of usb wifi adapter (and driver) that can work in Solaris 10 on Sparc platform?
Or, can I have the list of Solaris supported PCI wifi adapter and driver? It would be great if instruction included.
    Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, I also had this situation and since I was not able to convert the package to a datastream, I downloaded it from http: //www. sunfreeware. com/mozilla .html
They also provide some readme files that can be of help.
Once you have the datastream package you can install using pkgadd utility.

  • IPOD and USB Wireless Adapter Fighting!

I've got a Motorola USB Wireless Ethernet Adapter hooked up to my Dell desktop running XP. When I put my iPod in it's cradle, it disconnects the wireless. I've tried moving the iPod onto the other USB bus, but I keep getting the same problem.
    Any suggestions?

Hi Emily & welcome to the discussions:
My first move would be to switch from usb to firewire connection. Much more stable. If your Dell does not have firewire, I would opt for the Adaptec Firewire 4300 card that is so highly recommended in various threads here.
I have wireless usb devices working along side my firewire connection for the pod and have no problems.
    Good luck,

  • Using D-link G650 wireless adapter

Hi all I have a question,,,I have a D-Link dwl-g650 wireless adapter I want to try and use in my PB TI I know it is for most pc's but I found site ( http://www.stateofyo.net/metaphyzx/Wireless.htm ) that say it can be use in it,,I only have to install a new driver software from OrangeWare to make it work,,but when I download it it is in a .sit format how do i make this work..I'm new to macs and still learning all there little tricks any advice on this would be great.....
I know there are other cards out there that will work but thought I'd give this a try since I had it already.....

this is a stuffit file format. you can try to download stuffit expander or go get "the unarchiver." - http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html
I like the unarchiver app better, personally. it's easy to install & setup - all you do is open the .dmg file by a double click, drag the app to your Mac HD/Applications folder, & double click the app to open the quick setup panel - which consist of checkmarks for the various formats. you don't have to really do anything but click OK.
now double click the sit file, it should unpack it in the same place where your sit file is sitting.

  • How do I setup my MacBook Pro (2009) as a wireless access point for all my wireless device to access the Internet using a USB wireless adapter?

I connect to the Internet with a USB Super Antenna from CCrane.
I want to establish a network on my Mac to allow my other wireless devices to use the USB connection at the USB.
    Any ideas?

Yes, that would work, however it would cost me $2000 for the monitors.

  • Problem using a NETGEAR wg111v2 USB wireless adapter

The adapter wad recognized by the system. It was using the rtl8187 module. When I type iwconfig, there is an entry of wlan0. The result of "iwlist scan" looks to be just right. But when I type "iwconfig wlan0 essid ...", the link quality, signal level are all 0. However, in the result of "iwlist scan", these values are non-zero.
Then I started to wonder maybe rtl8187 is not totally compatible with this card. Therefore I installed ndiswrapper, and downloaded the inf files for nearly every version NETGEAR has supplied. I followed the instructions in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wir … diswrapper . After I disabled rtl8187 and enabled ndiswrapper in rc.conf, "iwlist scan" begins to show no meaningful results at all. Sometimes it finds a "managed" source with essid "", sometimes it just finds nothing. no other results have been found.
    I am confused...
How should I handle this? Any other one has similar experiences?

    Yes, "Access Point: Not-Associated".
    In dmesg's result:
    wlan: authenticated
    wlan0: associate with AP 00:18:3a:ae:d0:74
    wlan0: associate with AP 00:18:3a:ae:d0:74
    wlan0: associate with AP 00:18:3a:ae:d0:74
wlan0: association with AP 00:18:3a:ae:d0:74 timed out
Where else should I look at to find interesting logs?
It's now the rtl8187 module. So how, normally, should I handle this?
    Thank you for your reply
