D1 Mark III firmware 1.3.2, Using EOS utility Liveview.

I cannot get the computer screen shutter button to take the photo. I can get the preview to come up but then I have to close it and physically push the shutter. Also when I try to use fast view a box pops up saying it is bussy. The instructions say you should be able to do this from the computer. Using EOS utility. Any help would be appreciated, solutions would be better.

Thanks for the many comments, I turn on the computer, turn on the camera using the AC adapter. I then plug the USB cord into the computer. The computer recognizes the camera and the EOS first screen comes up asking “what do you want to do”, I click operate “camera”. Then up comes what I call the EOS screen its about 3 inches wide, has camera settings on top and you work your way down to three choices live view, test screen and something else. I click on live view and the camera mirror locks up and I get the image on the computer screen, in real time. I then do my focus adjustment,, set my shutter, and f stop via the computer. That where the computer assist seems to stop. Yes, I do know that I have to close the live view. I then try to use what looks like a shutter button on the computer screen and nothing happens. I can click the shutter manually and two things happen. I have registered Photoshop to receive the photos. Photoshop which is already open, received the new image as a jpg. The second thing that happens is the a small “screen” which had the same photo as photoshop opens, this is the screen that open if you have no project/program registered. I cannot make the camera function (take a photo) via the computer. Has any one gotten their computer to take the photo or do you have to push the shutter manually?   You mengtioned normal remote shooting, is that different that using live view?

  • Updating 5D Mark III firmware

I am trying to update my 5D Mark III firmware. The download is on the CF card but the camera cannot read it. What have i done wrong?  I use an Apple iMac

When you download the new firmware, you should get a file named "eos5d3-v121-mac.dmg" on your hard drive (probably in your downloads folder.)
Open "Finder" on your Mac and double click that file to mount the disk-image (.dmg) file.
This will open a Finder window showing the contents of that .dmg file.  You will notice two things:
    1)  A file named:  5D300121.FIR
    2)  A folder named:  update-procedure-pdf
The folder contains PDF documents with instructions in several languages.
All you really need to do is copy the ".FIR" file to your memory card.  The 5D300121.FIR should be placed in the top-level directory on the card (do not place it in a sub-folder.)
Eject the card from your Mac.
Insert the card into your camera.
    Power up the camera.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FULLY CHARGED BATTTERY (never attempt an update on a battery that's near empty).
Press the "Menu" button on the camera.
Use the front wheel to scroll to SET UP page 4 (gold "wrench" icon ... 4th page).
Use the rear dial to scroll down to the 4th row.  This will show your current firmware version.
    Press the "Set" button.
It will show the current version with a "Cancel" and "Ok" option.  Click "Ok" to proceed.
It will check the memory cards for files in the top-level directory ending with ".FIR" and display your choices.
Since you'll only have one .FIR file, it should show an entry for "Cardx: 5D300121.FIR"
Highlight that firmware and press "Set"
It will confirm one last time that you want to upgrade from your current firmware to the new firmware.  When you are ready, select "Ok" to proceed.
It will now begin the update.  It will display a progress graph.
It will give you a message with explicit instructions to not touch any buttons or switches until it is finished.
It will tell you it is done.
Canon recommends you now POWER OFF the camera and...
    EJECT THE BATTERY.
    Wait 2 full seconds.
    Re-insert the battery.
    Power up the camera.
    You're done!
That last bit about removing the battery is to force the camera to completely boot from firmware.  The power swtich is really a soft switch... it doesn't technically deprive the camera of power.  "technically" your camera is in a kind of power-saving sleep state.... except it will not be awakened by accidentally pressing a button like a true "sleep" state.  That's why they tell you to remove and then re-insert the battery.

  • EOS 5D Mark III Firmware Update: Clean HDMI Output and AF Improvements Explained

Canon has released an important firmware upgrade for the EOS 5D Mark III that will undoubtedly benefit DSLR cinematographers and still shooters alike. The 1.2.1 update enables the camera to record clean, uncompressed digital video data (YCbCr 4:2:2 8 bit) with encoded time code over the HDMI output, while simultaneously displaying video on the rear LCD and recording internally to CF or SD cards. This adds an enormous amount of flexibility to what is already one of the world’s top DSLR camera choices.

  • 5D Mark III firmware suggestions

    Hello,
Could Canon team give us their positions on these suggestions please ?
    1) The Auto ISO is far from being convenient.
    - Could we specify the min shutter speed instead of being limited to a restricted number of predefined values ?
    - When shutter speed is set to "auto", could we set a priority as regards the one-over-the-focal-length rule thanks to a slider ? This is exactly what is so WELL done for some autofocus settings, so why not extend it to the "auto" value ?
    2) When we switch the lens to manual focus, could you make the focus grid and red blinking vanish ?
    3) Could you display the focal length on the rear LCD when reviewing a picture ? Presently, only aperture/speed/ISO are displayed when you click on "Info".
    4) This last one might sound like a gadget... Would it possible when pressing the M-Fn button (or other) to set the focus to the hyperfocal ? Nowadays, there are no more indications for this on the lens barrel. And it is so useful for street photography and landscape. The camera knows the focal length and the current aperture. There are tables that give the relation between aperture, focal length and hyperfocal (as simple as a rule of thumb). So this should work, no ?
Maybe I am alone here to think that this would be welcome additions (#1 top priority) and will never be heard by Canon's dev team... But I would really appreciate having their answers written down here. Thanks for your consideration on this matter.
    Cheers,
    Yoms

We agree with all of these suggestions.
And we will also add the following suggestion than CAN be implemented via Firmware Update.
PLEASE CANON consider these requests, and forward them to the right department:
1- Could we enable AF points blinking in red even when the sccene is light?
Currently they only blink red when the scene is dark, even if you set the View Finder to always be illuminated.
This is VERY useful because in lot of situations the black overlay AF points is not very easy to see in light scenes.
2- If possible: also make them more visible (blinking red) in AI Servo, because they're currently hard to follow in lot of situations.
3- Could we assign different functions to the RATE button? It's currently almost a waste of button for only a couple of functions.
4- Please implement a "Hot / Sutck Pixels" REMAPPING function to let the user tell the camera to hide these deffective pixels in stills and video mode.
This is ESSENTIAL in digital cameras (every sensor has deffective pixels, most of them "mapped" in factory to be hidden, but not all). Digital sensors may even show more hot/stuck pixels over time. It could work in similar way than the "Dust delete data"
5- We expect an Option for CLEAN 4:2:2 HDMI output as promised by Canon, besides the current Full HD HDMI output option with shooting information, which is essential for using external monitors.
6- PLEASE, could Canon implement PEAKING in Video mode? The 5D Mark III is a $3,000+ camera.
There are currently cameras by other manufacturers with Peaking, 1080p60 for less than $1,000...
The 5D Mark III had strong advertised aimed towards the video market, yet it doesn't have this basic feature for filmmaking & video.
7- Please, could Canon improve the ALL-I mode?
It delivers poor quality (considering the BIG memory space required) when there are low motion scenes, showing more macro blocking than IPB and a noticeable "fizzy" noise, even at Low ISO.
8- Please, improve the Sharpness algorithm in Video mode, to get SHARPER images when setting it higher than zero.
Currently it produces noticeable halos, making it almost unusable for professional work.
The list could be longer, but all these improvements are VERY important and CAN be made via firmare update and would make the 5D Mark III more competitive and a higher value.
    Thank you very much Canon!
We really hope you listent to your customers.

  • Uploading 5D mark 2 using EOS Utility

I have recently upgraded my camera, computer & all software and was told by a printing lab in town that my image didn't have a colour profile....WHAT....? I am totally clueless about how to fix this or where in the process of shooting / up loading / editing or saving i am going wrong so that my images are ending up without a colour profile. I am currently doing some product photography to be published in an artists monograph so it is important that i get this issue resolved asap, preferably before I edit any more images for them wrong!
I am using a 5D Mark2. It is set to colour space: Adobe RGB in camera. I am using the EOS Utility software to up load the images and cant find any settings to change in that program. I am then doing basic editing in Adobe Bridge CS5.1 and lastly opening the images in Photoshop, doing a final edit and saving as PSD, TIFF and JPG files. Does anyone know if this is the best/right way to be editing my images or if there is a crucial step i am missing in my editing process.
Please could someone help ASAP. I am on a very tight schedule and worry that I might be ruining my images that look so great in camera!

Thanks for the many comments, I turn on the computer, turn on the camera using the AC adapter. I then plug the USB cord into the computer. • Canon 5D Mark III firmware wishlist/feature request.

    Auto ISO one-touch Custom Control:
As a photographer my niche is in child and pet portraits.  So I shoot Manual and fix my exposure at 1/500 shutter speed and f/2.8 aperture with Auto ISO.  The SET->ISO custom control beautifully allows me to do exposure compensation in ISO because it only takes 3 clicks of the Main Dial to add 1-stop EV.  But there is no quick way to turn Auto ISO back on.
For example, if Auto ISO is reading ISO-1600 it only takes 3 clicks to get ISO-3200 using the Main Dial and SET->ISO Custom Control.  But it takes 17 clicks of the Main Dial with the top ISO button to turn Auto ISO back on. [Note: Auto ISO cannot be set with SET->ISO]
I am proposing a Custom Control for one-touch Auto ISO to provide a very fast and easy way to switch to Auto ISO.
This functionality could be included in the existing SET->ISO Custom Control:
    1) Holding SET and turning the Main Dial selects ISO. [Current functionality]
    2) Pressing SET selects Auto ISO
If this dual context in buttons is not possible then the Custom Control options could be any/all of:
    1) AF-ON -> Auto ISO
    2) * -> Auto ISO
    3) Start/Stop -> Auto ISO [I think a lot of action photographers aren't using LiveView]
    Thank you for your consideration.
    -DS
Others all welcome to add their own wishlist.

please add exposure compensation when in full manual mode with autoISO enabled.
for example I set a desired aperture for depth of field and a desired speed to freeze movements and there heavily changing light conditions on a location with a lot of action - i will just use autoISO. so one scene might be evenly exposed, but when i turn around i have a heavily backlit person. so it would be super-practical if i could just overexpose by a stop or two via the back dial. if i would adjust the ISO the same problem as DeckardSolos arises.
    apparently nikons have that feature.
edit - second request: enable main dial image scroll in review mode
i take a shot  with image review enabled. naturally i review my image and often would like to compare it to the image i took just before. but i cant just scroll back with the main dial. i have to press play to get in "playback mode" and only then the dial will work. it would be very practical if the image pops up automatically for review and i could compare it straightaway to others.

  • TS3423 my start drive not responding. getting grey screen with question mark in a folder. when i use disk utility drive wont mount

When I turn on my Mac I get a grey screen with a folder with a question mark . Have tried the disk utility to no avail as the disk has apparently dismounted and will not mount even though the mount option is available. I have recently upgraded from snow leopard go os x maverick

This could be a software/state problem or a hardware problem.  In your case it sounds like the latter but you should try the steps below in case it might help.

  • I just upgraded from LR 3.6 to 4, I can't get 4 to open canon mark iii raw files.?

I just upgraded from LR 3.6 to 4, I can't get 4 to open canon mark iii raw files.?  Also, does CS5  not read Canon 5D Mark iii files either?  thanks

For Cs 5, please use the latest version of Camera raw. Cannon 5D Mark III is supported on Camera raw 6.7. Update the software or download install the camera raw 6.7 from the Adobe Website.
Lightroom 4, please wait for the next update of camera raw for the support of Cannon 5D Mark III. You may try using the beta version of Camera raw 7.1 available on Adobe labs.

  • Canon 5d Mark III and Lightroom 4.3 tethered shooting issues.

I bought a new Canon 5d Mark III and upgraded my lightroom to 4.3.  I have been having issues shooting tehtered.  I'll shoot and get some frames coming in and when I start plugging away the program bar will spin and I'll only get a few grey frames and it just kind of freezes.  I don't know what to do.

LR4.3 was supposed to improve Lightroom's built-in tethering, but in my experience it still has some reliability problems - especialy in recovering from broken connections (not just unplugging USB but also if the camera loses power by sleeping or when changing a memory card).
Sorry if some of this is basic info, but I'd recommend you try a different USB cable - the cable end that connects to the camera is easilly damaged in a way that makes a connection possible, but unstable (I strongly recommend finding a cable with a 90 degree downward bend at the camera plug). Also, we often have to send a camera body in to have the USB port serviced. Canon has begun to provide a small rubber boot to reinforce the USB connection at the port, but they won't sell the part outside of a repair service. Be sure to use some kind of stress-relief for the cable at the camera. Tethertools sells one, but I've made mine DIY with a little string and a small binder clip... nearly free. Finally, be sure your cable is less than about 15 feet. If you need to go longer, I've successfully tethered with two cheap powered repeaters from Monoprice, but no single link should be over 15 feet.
Oh yeah, also set your camera to not sleep for a long time.
Beyond all that, is using EOS Utility for capture and LR Auto-import a viable option for you? It works very well for me. I use the Apple "Image Capture" app to tell my system to launch EOS Utility whenever the camera is connected - and set EOS Utility to launch into remote capture/camera control mode. It's very stable and recovers from disconnects or camera power loss and the remote camera control/live view can be pretty handy.
Another plus is that if you do need to disconnect USB and shoot to card, you can just copy new images from the card to your watched folder and they are imported to Lightroom with the same settings and location.
The only downsides for me is that there is no way to have a crop apply to new images using auto import -- and I have to re-save my develop preset each time I make a change. Using the "Same as Previous" option under develop settings in native tethering is so great for this and I'd love to see a similar option added to auto import.
    Hope this helps.

  • Canon 5D Mark III - CS6 - Handling of spanned clips

    Hi,
I was looking to pick up a 5d Mark III and I was wondering how most tend to handle the workflow for rejoining spanned clips. I`m going to be using Premiere CS6. I know that the Media Browser can rejoin P2 media and such, does it work the same way with the Mark III?
What do most use for the rejoin?
    Thanks

The files are sequencially named so you can easily grab several and drag to your timeline and they will be butted up to form a continous flow.
You can do this, but I'm not sure it makes much sense to ignore
the Media Browser to opt for manually re-assembling your
    source media files before editing.
That's what the Media Browser does automatically
(as pointed out in post #1).

  • I cannot open raw files taken with my Canon Mark III in CS5

I am running CS5 on a newer computer (2012)... Every time I try to edit raw images taken with my Canon Mark III, a text box appears alerting me that my camera model is not supported by camera raw. I have tried various updates and software installations, but I have been unsuccessful in remedying the problem. Can anyone help or tell me what update/ software to download? I apologize if this thread already exists.

Canon Mark III do you mean Canon 1D Mark III or Canon 1DS Mark III or Canon 5D Mark III ???
In any case CS 5  ACR update 6.7 should handle all those cameras.

  • Problems with Canon EOS Utility & Canon 5D Mark II

Canon EOS utility cannot see my 5D Mark II connected via USB.
I've installed the latest 5D firmware (1.2.4), latest EOS Utility (2.7.2) and i'm running Snow Leopard 1.6.2.
When I open EOS utility it cannot recognize the camera, neither with Snow leopard default photo import application.
How can i solve it? Already tested the usb cable and all the option under camera menus...

Yes, just started using this and noticed pretty soon afterwards. Seems to happen when I start clicking around or doing anything that uses the processor more than just surfing the web, but that's just anecdotal. I immediately stopped and started using MPEG Streamclip, but I really want the timecode.
Most recently, I had Log and Transfer open, transcoding some 7D footage, and a few of the clips didn't come in—they were left with the red stop-sign symbol/exclamation point. When I clicked to "retry," it stopped importing the current clip and started on the clip I retried. I clicked "retry" on another unimported clip, and again, the clip import stopped and the new clip began processing. I let it go through and, after the checking the footage, I discovered it had been incorrectly named the first clip's filename! Needless to say, I hand-checked every file to make sure it was the right duration (a few weren't), deleted the files from the Capture Scratch folder, and reimported—making sure I didn't touch the computer.
I hope they fix this bug, whatever it is.
BTW, I've experienced it on two separate Mac Pros.

  • I am running my canon camera on the EOS utility program for mac, and i was wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut to start video recording, instead of using the mouse.

I am using EOS utility for MAC to run my canon camera at work. I have a foot switch connected to my macbook that allows me to take snapshots with my foot while i work ( i am a dentist and i have my camera hooked to a microscope). the way i did that is by programming a keyboard shortcut that snaps photos on EOS utility, to the foot switch software.
So my question is: On EOS there is a video recording function, so i was wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut or if i can create a keyboard shortcut for the start/stop record function for video recording..

    Hi

  • Is there any possible way to use my EOS Rebel XT for EOS Utility?

Okay, so i want to use EOS Utility on my Digital Rebel XT camera. In case you are wondering EOS Utility is used to take a picture with the camera by just clicking a button on the computer. Its used to make it so that any pictures i take arent shaky. Anyway, there is no link for the camera and when i go to the cameras homepage, and go to softwares, There is no download link for EOS Utility for my camera. Is there any way I can still use it on my Digital Rebel XT Camera? Let me know thanks

Is there any way I can still use it on my Digital Rebel XT Camera? Let me know thanks Other responses have gone off to explain some other solutions before answering your question. The simple answer is "NO". You cannot use your camera tethered to a computer, controlling it via EOS Utilities software (or Lightroom, for that matter). In order to do that, the camera must have the Live View feature. Your XT (aka 350D, from 2005) doesn't have Live View. There was a version of LV on the EOS 20Da (2005), a more complete implementation of it on the 40D (2007), and among the Rebel-series models the XSi and XS were the first to get LV (aka 450D & 1000D, both introduced in 2008). Other responses are on some right tracks, though. If your primary purpose is to help prevent camera shake, there are several other things you can do, which you may or may not be aware of... - Set a faster shutter speed. Of course, to do so may require a larger lens aperture and/or a higher ISO.  - Get and use a lens with IS (Image Stabilization).- Use flash, it freezes both subject movement and camera shake, approx. like 1/720 shutter speed would, with most flashes.- Use a tripod along with:- - a remote release (RS-60E3 wired or RC-6 wireless)- - or just use the camera's self-timer delay - - and/or use mirror lockup (Custom Function 7) Tripod quality has a great deal of effect. Some are so flimsy as to be hardly worth using. For example, the most stable tripods do not use a center column or, if it has one, the tripod is tall enough to be used without raising the center column much or at all. Materials make a differentce, too... for example carbon fiber is much better absorbing fine vibration than metal. There are a number of other factors that go into making a tripod stable. Do some additional research, if interested. Note: RC-6 wireless release uses infra red and the sensor for it is on the front of the camera. This is certainly useful for self portraits, but may be problematic using this remote for other types of photos. In addition to the Canon RS-60E3 wired remote release, there are other brand remote switches including some that have additional features such as delay timers, interval timers (time lapse), etc.  AFAIK, Canon does not make a timer/controller with E3 connectivity (like the TC-80N3, which will not connect with your camera) Note: The XT's self-timer delay is 10 seconds only. However, when used in conjunction with the mirror lockup feature, it's automatically shortened to a 2 second delay. Note: While IS lenses can make possible handholding lenses at shutter speeds 2, 3 or somtimes even 4 stops slower than you'd normally be able to use... the effectiveness of IS varies a bit from lens to lens and good handholding technique are still needed to get the best out of it. Some IS lenses require IS to be manually turned off when locked down on a tripod. The IS in those lenses can go into sort of a feedback loop where it's actually causing, rather than preventing movement. Don't worry too much about it, though... if it happens you'll see it in the viewfinder and then can turn off the IS. (No harm done to either the camera or the lens.) Hope this helps! ***********
