D10 Startup Issues - RAID controller Help!

Hi, I have just received a D10 ThinkStation 6427-33U
It has two 250GB HDD's connected in RAID 1. The system booted up fine the first few times, and on the 3rd reboot, I get the error shown below.

1. Tried clearing the CMOS
  - System booted up fine, but when I got to setup, RAID had been disabled. WHen I re-enable it, save config and reboot, back to the same error.

I'm pulling my hair out right now... flashed the bios to 6/10/09 and still same error.

If I press F1 , I get weird dots and it hangs
If i press F2, blinking cursor on top left

if this is a new system and you don't care about rebuilding it, pull one of the drives and see if it still gives you an error.   if it does then leave the second drive out, disable RAID, and try booting.   if this works then replace the second drive, destroy the array, and rebuild it from scratch.   it could be that the array data is corrupted.
if this doesn't work then call lenovo service as there may be something else going on here.   i personally don't use the intel RAID controller and prefer to use the LSI controller whenever possible.
in fact, you may consider using the LSI contoller for your SATA disks.   it's a unified SAS/SATA controller and can handle SATA drives just fine.   performance may be slightly slower but it's closer to a hardware RAID solution than the intel controller.

  • KT333 Ultra ARU raid controller, help!!!!

I just bought a brand new 60 gig maxtor HD and I have no standard IDE slots left and was hopping that I could use the raid controller and setup the single drive as an array, and that I did fine, the onboard controller detected it and I ran the auto setup.... but when it boots to windows I cannot see the drive in windows explorer, and I have installed all of the latest drivers and 4 in 1 patch files. but cannot see the drive in windows... I am running windows ME, but the driver stated that it worked in ME, so any help would be appreciated....

    Hi,
You need a modded BIOS to do this, see the good-article forum.
There you find an article from Maesus about this stuff.

  • Trying to Revive a Older iMac G4 Flat ... Having startup issues .. Help ??

    Hello all
I received a Imac G4 ( 800 ?? one mem slot ) , put a harddrive I had laying around into it that I know worked - Put a dvd drive into it I had laying around and with some happiness started up . At first , I had no chimes , just would boot to the Question mark /Folder icon . There is NO Operating system on this ... I tried booting into cd/dvd with no luck it just goes to folder/? , I tried booting from my Leopard/Tiger and OS9 cd's ... No luck .... After researching some forums and google'd for a night or 2 I found out how to reset my PRAM and NVRAM , After I did this I got chimes VERY COOL or so I thought .....I tried all the basics again ( held C , Tried selective startup ) same results.
When I choose to do a selective startup ( option key held ) It shows the OSX disc but when I choose it the CD spins then it just stays at the menu , After a minute or so I can then refresh and try to click the arrow again .... Just stays in a loop I guess
I then booted the Imac into target disk mode and used my macmini Intel to install leopard to the drive on the Imac and I could install and even Booted my macmini from it ...
Sooo aggravating ... I guess i'm starting to think its something major , Iv been a PC tech for about 8 years , i'm a novice to mac id say prob about a year ( Comp Tech / Contractor ) ....
Since The day I purchased my Mac This forum has been incredibly helpful , I didn't want to waste time but I really have run out of ideas and have looked everywhere I myself can think of ....Any help would be Greatly Appreciated ,Thanks again

    Hey Jwile,
This is from the service manual:
"Screen is dark, fan is running and the hard drive is spinning. You may hear the startup chime as well.
    1. Reset parameter RAM. Press Command-Option-P-R during startup before “Welcome to Macintosh” appears.
    2. The system software could be damaged. Start up from the system CD that came with the computer.
    3. Remove the user access panel. With the unit powered on, check if a red LED (shown below) is visible in the access door. If the red LED is on, power is on. If you don’t see the LED glowing red, follow the steps under the symptom “No Power”.
    4. Disconnect the A/C power cord. Place the unit in the service stand and remove the user access plate.
Press the PMU reset button on the logic board. Refer to “Resetting the PMU on the Logic Board” mentioned earlier in this chapter.
    5. Check for external video. Connect an external monitor to the mini-VGA port. If you don’t have external video, replace the main logic board. If you do have external video, go on to the next step.
    6. Open the bottom housing and verify that all the cables are securely attached. Pay special attention to the video cable (located near the modem). If the cables are securely attached, go on to the next step.
Warning: Whenever the bottom housing is opened for service, you must do two things:
    • You must clean the original thermal film from the surfaces joining the thermal interface layer and reapply thermal paste to the thermal pipe.
    • The bottom housing has four torx screws that must be tightened to at least 17 in.-lbs. If you do not have a torque driver, you will have to make sure these screws are tightened by hand FIRMLY, BUT NOT FORCIBLY. Or, purchase the service tool (076-0899) in order to ensure the thermal pipe is firmly mated with the top base. If the bottom housing is not securely attached to the base in this
fashion, the CPU may overheat and become damaged.
    7. Check the connection of the video cable to the LCD flat panel display (under black tape).
iMac (17-inch Flat Panel) Troubleshooting - 19 No Video Symptom Charts
    8. Replace the inverter board.
    9. Replace the LCD display. Important: If you are replacing the display, be sure to install the new display
shield and EMI gaskets that come with the new LCD panel. Installation instructions are included with the
new display panel. Additional display shields/gasket kits are also available separately as a kit, part #076-0958.
    10. Replace the neck assembly
    11. Replace the logic board.
    12. Replace the power supply board."
So since you've had it apart I'd definitely check those connectors.
There is definitely only one Ram slot on this board though , Thats the one thing im confused about .
There's one slot on the logic board and another one under the user access panel in the bottom. It takes a laptop type memory. That's why that LEM profile lists two slots of different types.
I am going right out and buying new HD and Memory ( well as new as I can find ... Kinda old ) haha
Well I use salvaged HDs (anything PATA/IDE will work) and PC-133 from old PCs the DIMM is the difficult one to find.
Do you see a lot of that stuff?
I also have voltage supply pinouts. Email me for those.

  • Powerbook Startup Issues...help!

I have an aluminum 15" Powerbook G4 (1.5 ghz and 1 gig memory)
While operating a bunch of programs at once it froze, so I held down the power key to shut it down....when I restarted it, it chimed and got to the apple screen, made some of the normal clicking noises and then stopped...it didn't get to the spinning circle and I don't hear the fan running, it's just frozen there...
So....I reset the PRAM and the PMU...and same the thing....I am able to start it in target mode with a firewire cable...and went into disk utility on my desktop and attempted to repair it...but it checked everything and said that nothing needed repairing....confusing...I am also able to access and move files between the two computers in target mode....
It is similar to this problem http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1153885&tstart=30
but the repair didn't help mine...so I'm very confused
    Suggestions?
    thanks
    -Lisa

Did you try booting from your installer disk and running Repair Disk from Disk Utility there? If Disk Utility can't repair the disk I would try DiskWarrior. Other than that save all the files you can in target mode and you may need to do an Erase & Install.

  • RAID controller on G4; problems... is RAID dead? Help please!

    Hey.
Here's the deal... Our graphics department has a MAC G4 (fully upgraded. newest patches, OS, etc.) that's got a 4 port SATA RAID controller. They use this with four 750GB hard drives as an external RAID (the OS is on a seperate, 65GB hard drive). The way it's set up, through Apple's OS, is we have the four 750GBs in pairs... those pairs are striped, and then the two sets of striped 750s are mirrored. This has worked just fine for a number of months, but we recently had a power surge, and now we're unable to mount "Monkey" (the name of the 1.4TB array).
See the below screenshots for more clarification.
    http://www.amcdoors.com/lorenzo/raidsetup.JPG
This shows the RAID card, and the four SATA cables coming out of it.
    http://www.amcdoors.com/lorenzo/leftside1.JPG
As you can see in this and the below screenshots, this shows the 1.4TB Striped set as 'online', but the two below (the two 750GB hard drives) show up as "offline".
    http://www.amcdoors.com/lorenzo/leftside2.JPG
this shows the actual drive i click on. same thing
    http://www.amcdoors.com/lorenzo/leftside3a.JPG
If i click the entire array, you can see how it's set up (the Mirrored RAID set consisting of the two Striped RAID sets). The RAID sets (all 3 of them) are showing up as online, yet the drives are offline. No idea why. The drives are all powered, and are spinning, and plugged in.
    http://www.amcdoors.com/lorenzo/leftside3b.JPG
when you click "Monkey Drive", nothing shows up in it. i don't remember if anything ever used to. if you click 'mount', nothing happens.
    http://www.amcdoors.com/lorenzo/leftside4.JPG
    http://www.amcdoors.com/lorenzo/leftside5.JPG
this shows the exact same problem as the first RAID set.
    http://www.amcdoors.com/lorenzo/verifyRAIDset1.JPG
If you try to Verify the RAID set, it shows that no repairs are necessary
    http://www.amcdoors.com/lorenzo/verifymonkey.JPG
If you try to verify Monkey, you get a "Volume Needs Repair" error... but when you try to repair it, you get this:
    http://www.amcdoors.com/lorenzo/repairmonkey.JPG
Really need help; this is a pretty critical problem. Someone that's familar with RAID solutions on MACs please help me out. We can't risk losing any data if at all possible.
    Thanks
    ~Lorenzo

have you gotten this to work yet ?? if not let me know

  • On-board RAID and PCI RAID controller

    Hello everybody,
I am new to the forum. So, please excuse me if that topic was already covered...
I have MSI MAX2-LR (MS-6398E) board. It works just fine, no problem so far. Though I have 2 problems with add-on cards:
    1.  I was planning to use on-board RAID and additional PCI RAID controller = FastTrack 100 TX2 to cover 6 hard drives into 2 mirrored sets: 4drives one and 2 drives the other.
It doesn't work! I can use either on-board RAID or PCI RAID. As soon as I have any drive connected to on-board RAID, the PCI RAID disappeares. If I have no drives connected to on-board RAID, I can see both RAID controllers, they have different I/O and IRQs, and PCI RAID is working just fine. If only I connect one drive to the on-board RAID, it gets activated on startup, and the other one disappeares. :O
I believe it's a BIOS bug. I wander, if that can be fixed easily????? :D
    2. I have a new Matrox Video card = Parhelia. It doesn't work in AGP slot! System doesn't recognize it, and beeps non-stop. I am dealing with Matrox Tech Support on that matter.  ?(
Maybe, it's a known issue, and somebody can save me time by telling what's that about.
Appreciate any imput. Have a great weekend.!!! :]

Hey I also have the same Raid card and also the Matrox Parhelia, and I see that you also have some problems with the card I got also problems with the card, but they couldnt help me at theire forums (http://forum.matrox.com/mgaforum/Forum10/HTML/005085.html), I hope we have got more luck here  :D

  • KT4 Ultra (6590) need update of the Promise SATA RAID Controller PDC20376

The last Bios update AMI 1.4 for the KT4 Ultra (6590) have built in the bios version 1.00.0.18 for the PDC20376 (Promise 376).
    I can configure 2 maxtor (6E040T0) sata1 in a raid0 array and it works under WinXP SP3,
but the 2 drives are working in UDMA5 according to the FastBuild Utility when the motherboard specifications talks about 150Mb (SATA1).
It's not an OS problem because the FastBuild Utility at Bios startup show the UDMA5 mode for HDD.
It's not a Maxtor 6E040T0 (SATA1) problem because have no jumper to set.
The Promise support center don't provide support for built in raid controller but the responce was that it's related to a known bios issue of the controller, so i have to update.
For the last Bios version for the S150 TX4 controller look at:
    http://promise.com/support/download/download2_eng.asp?productId=108&category=all&os=100&go=GO
It's impossible to update the bios with the promise tool because the controller is integrated in the motherboard.
I read for example than on the motherboard K7N2 Delta-ILSR the bios version of the Promise 376 controller is 1.00.0.21:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=92756.msg665966#msg665966
I think the only solution is a modding bios, where i have to replace only the Promise controller bios but:
    1) The tool amibcp.exe can't open the A6590VMS.140 AMI bios (renamed .rom), i don't know why!!!
    2) What promise controller bios rom file is good?
Can anyone out there help . . . please ?

This is my results compared to my other UDMA6 HDD on IDE1, HDTach long bench stop with "Read Error" and only quick bench works.
The version of the Controller driver under WinXP-SP3 is 1.0.1.29 and I configured the driver in the PAM Utility with:
"Driver Write Cache" enabled and "Write Back" as cache settings (The 2 Maxtor SATA1 in RAID have 2MB of cache, but i don't know How many cache have the controller!!).
The Burst Speed is too strange!!! quick bench error?
I made it so your image is clickable.

  • PPC G5 compatibility of Areca PCIE RAID controller arc-1280?

Subject: Mac compatibility of Areca ARC-1280 24 ports PCI Express to SATA II RAID adapter.
At Areca's Internet site ( www.areca.com.tw) consumers can read at pages concerning arc-1280 card that: « The SATA RAID controllers support broad operating systems including ... MAC ... ».
At Specifications page, under: Operating system, it is written: « Mac OS X (no_bootable) ».
Absolutely no other warning appear about MAC owners.
So, if you are just a basic computer consumer, you are now strongly tempted to believe that if you got a MAC with PCIExpress technology & OS X, you can safely buy arc 1280 PCIE.
This is because (nearly) everyone knows that in real pragmatic actual life OS X exclusively runs on Apple Mac machines. In the case of arc-1280, as it is a PCIExpress adapter, only two Apple Mac models are possible: the very recent MACPro (Intel cpu based) & late 2005 PPC G5 dualcore (IBM cpu based). As Areca mentions nowhere any warning between MACPro & G5 dualcore, only owners of either of those PCIE machines may logically have the opportunity to run OS X with an arc-1280 connected!
If you are a little bit more paranoïd, before to buy such an expensive adapter, you will check if there are other stuffs to confirm your deductions. You then will find Areca's online user's manual 3.2, where it is stated that a bios configuration utility, contained into card's firmware, is « OS independant » & can be accessed at startup by pressing TAB or F6. About « MAC X » driver installation, user is invited to follow a readme.txt (that in fact does not exist nowhere). It is the same for archttp proxy server installation, which is also asserted to support Mac OS.
Moreover, a Mac driver is freely downloadable online, called arcmsr-1.3.1.pkg. Now you are ready to trust!
Having arc-1280 plugged, you start your Mac (happy to hear that card beep after startup) then install driver (the same is present online & on Areca's companion CD). A text appear:
« This driver supports...arc 1280...PCIE... Please note that this is a pre-release version of the driver for testing purpose, and is *NOT * for general distribution. ». But installation completes succesfully and you pay no attention to this frightening sentence hidden into Areca's driver package.
What then arise when you have your computer restarted? Nothing: except the beep at startup, Areca's high end Raid controller simply do not appear anywhere into Mac OS X!
As I cannot afford paying more than 1200 euro for just a startup beep, I decided to require help from distributor & Areca's very enigmatic support. Lastly distributor decided to try with another arc-1280 which was as useless on my Mac than the first one. I again protested, Areca's support seeming to have totally resign for quite a lot of time now, distributor blaming me not to have been carefull enough ?!
Distributor ask me now to re-send back the card. They will try to get their money back from Areca, then maybe will I have my money back ? They asked me to write a letter with a description of the problem & why I want a full refund.
This is now done, hoping this will help to avoid further misinformation.

    MacGurus PCIE which are supported.
I saw the Areca reviewed xbitlabs
AMUG http://www.amug.com does great reviews of Mac compatible drives, enclosures, and controllers.

  • Raid controller show failure

Just noticed a red light on the front of the raid. now all lights are green again. but in raid admin
my lower controller status is red- Failure.
Does this mean that this controller is dead on need to be restarted?
    Thanks for the help
    Martin

Red light on RAID Controller means that your server does not have connectivity to your RAID Drives. If you are using fiber connectivity on  your RAID, you can try connecting via ethernet by plugging your RAID to ethernet switch and plugging your server to same switch. If you have connectivity, that shows your problem is fiber.
Restart might fix the issue, but make sure you unmount RAID volumes before you do any restart.
If it does not work, you may try pulling out your raid drives and restart ,then push raid drives back in.
    I hope it helps.

  • Had to replace Xserve RAID controller and now I get Xsan Admin: ERROR: duplicate LUN label RAID1-Left1

I need some help, I had one of my five Xserve RAID boxes fail. The upper controller card needed to be replaced and so we replaced it. But now only one of my volumes is loading and I am seeing the following error in my Console.
7/18/12 9:23:18.550 AM Xsan Admin: ERROR: duplicate LUN label RAID1-Left1
This raid box holds three LUNs. the left is split into two with one being the metadata / Journal for the main volume and the 2nd being the same for my secondary volume. The right side of this box is the second volume while the remaining 4 RAID boxes are my main volume. Here is the rub, the main volume is using the left1 LUN and the secondary is left2. The left2 is the one that is not working and when I go into the LUN info the WWN number does not match the actual id on the raid box.
    HELP!!!!
    Thanks,
    Kevin Rosenthal

Did you try turning it off and on again? I mean, the full SAN shutdown/startup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4027
You're probably seeing "duplicate LUN labels" because the MDC has seen two LUNs with the same label but different serial numbers since it has been online. The serial number (which I think is based off the WWN) would have changed when the RAID controller changed. A reboot should fix that specific error message.
If the volume still doesn't start after rebooting, then you would want to check the cvlog for that volume.

  • Dynamic Smart Array B220i RAID Controller keeps loosing Logical Drive after power shutdown.

Hi, I own two HP Microservers Gen8. I added SSD drive on the DVD SATA port in both. I created Raid 0 over the SSD Drive that I can boot from it, but everytime I shutdown the box (power outage), the logical drive is lost. Note that the logical drive is not lost on reboot. Only when the box is is shutdown. Any ideas why is this happening? Here are repro steps: Enter Smart Storage Administrator
Select onDynamic Smart Array B220i RAID CtrollerClick on "Unassigned Drive" Screen shows me:SATA HDD:
    - 3TB Port1:Bay1
    - 3TB Port2:Bay2 SATA SSD
    - 120GB Port5:Bay5 I selected Sata SSD drive in Port5:Bay5I clicked on "Create Array"
On a next screen I select the following:
I selected RAID 0, 256 KiB Stripe Size, 32 Sectors, Maximum Size
I click on "Create Logical Drive" On a next screen:
A message: Logical Drive was successfully created.
    I click on Finish
I exit the Smart Storage Manager and reboot the system. The server boots from the Raid0 Array (Sata SSD Drive in Port5:Bay5) -> No problem If I just reboot the server, it boots from the Raid0 Array. - No problemIf I shut down the server (or during Power outage), the Smart Array tells me that there is no logical array during the boot. The boot fails. -> Qualifies for a problem.
Please can you explain why is the logical drive lost after power loss? Why the controller does not remember the setting? Other details:- Dynamic Smart Array B220i RAID Controller (v3.54.0)- When I boot to Smart Storage Administrator after power failure, I can recreate the Raid 0 over the SSD drive and boot again - this a work around the issue. Thank you for your advise.Jiri

    Hi QUANT,

  • Basic SATA / SB600 Controller Help...Please! K9A2 Platnum

    Hi,
I built my comp a few months ago and am using a K9A2 Platnium board.
    Other Specs are:
    Saphire Raedon HD 4850
    AMD Phenom 8750
    4 1GB Kingston Ram
    WD 500 GB HDD
    Lite-on 20x burner.
Anyway, I installed vista and after installing SP1 I had a huge disk failure and had wipe everything and install XP.  Since installing XP some things have seemed a bit "off".  I have my HDD and optical drive plugged into SATA1 & SATA2 respectively, which is part of the SB600 sata controller.
Initially my optical drive was recognized by XP and my bios, but after a few days it disappeared from windows and is not being recognized from the BIOS.  I then switched the optical drive to a different SATAconnection (still on the sb600), and it was recognized, but after a few days it disappeared again.  I then tried plugging into another HDD to the mother board, and it was not recognized, but if I switched the SATA connections around, including the optical drive, both drives (optical and additional HDD) were recognized, but both dissappeared after a period of time, just like before.
I have played around with the bios settings but I can't find any problems.  The only SATA connection that is visible is the SATA1 connection which is a HDD that my OS is running on.
One thing that I noticed is when I click around in the boot order option, one of the selections is RAID: PDC42819 Ary X.
I don't know why that is there, I don't have any RAID set up, at least I don't think I do.
Any help would be more than appreaciated! Thanks in advance! :D :D :D

Go into BIOS settings, and under Integrated Peripherals, set 'Extra RAID controller' to [Disabled], if you are not using the Promise controller (ie you have no drives connected to the red SATA ports).
Please note that this will also disable the eSATA ports, don't know if those are being used?

I'm using a SATA DVD/CD writer with no issues, connected to the SB600 SATA ports.
And there are probably a lot more people using them without issues. Doesn't mean that every single SATA optical device will work on this southbridge. Just a simple trial and error by disconnecting the optical device for a while...

  • Sil3114 RAID controller

I recently installed a sata raid controller in my new solaris 10 box. It is based on the sil-3114 chipset. Unfortunatly Solaris does not recognize either of the sata drives that are connected to it. When I do prtconf -pv the device shows up (I think) with the following information:

ok, I gave devfsadm a shot. Nothing spectacular happened.
I also peaked in /var/adm/messages and got the following:
May 12 13:30:10 pbfs01 genunix: [ID 935449 kern.info]      ATA DMA off: disabled. Control with "atapi-cd-dma-enabled" property

I then tried enabling ATA DMA mode using eeprom atapi-cd-dma-enabled=1 and on reboot the message changed to the following:
