D110a loss of communication on 1 computer in a network

I have a home network with 2 destops and a laptop. There is one desktop that doesn't work all the time with the printer. I've unistalled and reinstalled  the software several times but nothing seems to work. Yesterday I did that process again.  I got a install fail at the very end of the process. I cycled power and the printer worked for awhile. I can go to the address printed in the network info and it says the printer is conected and is fine. I can print a test page from the web page.I'm assuming the problem is with my desktop. By the way it's runnig Win 7 32 bit. The other desktop is also runnig Win 7 32 bit.The laptop is Win XP SP3.
I'm lost as what to do next. All my computers are regularly updated by Windows Update.

Hello
Thank you Aaron for your quick anwser.
I have forgotten to say that the CFP module is the only device who is connected on our network.
In fact we have only one PC connected to a CFP.
So if we disconnect it ,we have nothing and of course our ping request get no response.
If the connection is on of course the ping request get a response.
I can just tell that this PC was used to communicate wither former FP modules and maybe there is
something wrong or out to date with its iak configuration.
We will carry out some others tests in order to find an explanation to our problems.
Of course i will be very pleased to get some others advices form experts.
Thank you for your help
Regards
Jean-François

  • Double computer name on network and NAT issue with Back to My Mac

These are the problems I am having:
When my MacPro workstation (which on the network is named "The Beast") wakes from sleep - I get a message saying "there is already a computer on the network with the name "The Beast". Other computers on the network can now find you at "The Beast-2"" and it gives me a new name in the file sharing preferences - even though it is the only computer on the network with that name.
    Why is this happening???
The other problem is with BackTo My Mac - When I try to enable it - I get an error message saying "Turn off NAT Addressing" - which I thought was turned off since the AEBS is in Bridge Mode. Why is this happening?
Here is my network setup which consists of the Modem / Router from my ISP - an Airport Extreme Base Station and one Airport Express - which is connected to my MacPro via ethernet. The MacPro does not have an airport card installed and is running OSX 10.6.8 - all other computers / devices are running 10.7.x and iOS6).
VDSL Modem / Router (from Internet provider) with wireless turned off - (so it is not broadcasting a competing wireless signal) - connected via ethernet to my Airport Extreme Base Station.
Here are all the settings on the AEBS and the Airport Express: - I am using Airport Utility 5.6.1 on my Mac Pro running OSX 10.6.8 - so the setup prefs are different than the newer version of Airport Utility found on 10.7.x systems - but both work fine. Although I did notice that the option to allow ethernet clients to connect to the Airport Express does not exist (or I just didn't find it) in the newer version of Airport Utility.
Airport Extreme Base Station is set up as follows:
Wireless Mode: Create a Wireless Network
    Wireless Settings:
Allow this network to be extended IS CHECKED
    Radio Mode: 802.11n (b and g compatible)
    Wireless Security: WPA/WPA2 Personal
    Access Control:
MAC Address Access Control: Not Enabled
    Internet Settings:
    Internet Connection:
    Connect Using: Ethernet
    Connection Sharing: OFF (Bridge Mode).
    TCP/IP:
    Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
    Advanced Settings:
    Logging & Statistics:
Syslog Destination Address is blank (as in nothing appears in this field).
    Syslog Level: 5 - Notice
    Allow SNMP is CHECKED
    MobileMe:
Back to my Mac is turned off - but if I try to turn it on I get an error message saying "Turn off NAT Addressing - which I thought was turned off since the AEBS is in Bridge Mode. Why is this happening?
    IPv6:
    IPv6 Mode: Link-local only
As stated - my MacPro with no wifi card -  is connected via ethernet to an Airport Express which connects wirelessly to the AEBS for network and internet access.
    Airport Express Settings:
    Airport Settings:
Wireless Mode: Join a Wireless Network
    Allow Ethernet Clients IS CHECKED
    Wireless Security WPA/WPA2 Personal
Internet Settings: Are grayed out (as in I can't change these settings - I assume because they are being controlled by the AEBS) and read as follows:
    Connect Using: Wireless Network
    Connection Sharing: OFF (Bridge Mode)
    TCP/IP:
    Configure IPv4: using DHCP
All other settings are identical to the AEBS.
All other WiFi devices in the house (MacBook Pro, iPhones, iPad's, iMac, Apple TV, Nintendo Wii etc…all are able to connect to the network and connect to the internet - no problem.
Thanks for any insights into what might be causing the double name on the network and why it is asking me to turn off NAT addressing - when both my Airport devices are in Bridge Mode?

I am also having this issue... any updates on this??

  • IPhone no longer connects to my computer over local network through apps

I've been trying to fix this for months. I've worked with technology and Apple computers for three years. I am by no means an expert but you can believe me when I say I've tried all the basics.
I first noticed the problem using FullControl. I liked to use this first thing in the morning. One morning it wouldn't connect, "Error: Connection error (22)." I hadn't updated or changed anything. I actually put my computer to sleep the night before using the app! I was on the local network. My computer was running the helper. My computer was showing up as a device in the app. But it would not connect. I figured something was wrong with the app.
So I opened up Splashtop 2. My iMac showed up in my list but with a satelite icon informing me it was not connecting on the local network. I was still on my wifi as was my computer. I used it earlier that week.
I checked out the support pages for both apps. I updated everything. I turned off, on, and checked the connections for my firewall. I turned off my security applications and followed guides to remedy blocks they might cause. Nothing worked.
I checked Apple discussions and found people having similar issues but no one had a fix. A few found success but nothing worked for me.
A few days later I went to use my Remote app. My iTunes Library showed up in the local devices but it would not connect, "Remote can't connect to your iTunes library. Check your network settings and try again." I checked. Tried again. "Could not find [my] Library." I went back to the devices and connected to my Apple TV 2 instantly. I tried connecting my iMac with the Apple TV and found no issues. Each communicated with the other fine. I tried to connect Remote to my iTunes again but it failed.
I verified and repaired my permissions. I thought the "SUID... ARDAgent.app... [permission] has been modified and will not be repaired" could've been the problem but Apple and these Discussions assure me that this is normal and not a problem.
I recently downloaded Air Playit and ran into the same problem. I set it up on my computer following the instructions. I opened the app. The app showed my computer as a "Computer on Local Network" but when I tried to connect to server, "Connect Server Failed: Cannot connect the server, check the IP, Port and try again." I did and it didn't connect.
Save for this new app, everything worked before. Nothing has worked since that morning FullContol failed (including the new app).
Is there an answer out there?!
iPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4: updated as of 06-29-2013
    iMac 2007 OS X 10.6.8: updated as of 06-29-2013
    FullControl (Full version)
    Splashtop 2 (Full access)
    Remote
    Air Playit
    - All apps and applications updated as of 06-29-2013

Intego's VirusBarrier X6 was blocking my iPhone's connection.
I saw that the program was blocking attempts to connect and took the address off the Blocked list. I instantly connected through everything again. It turned out to be a major oversight and easy fix!
If anyone else is having similar issues, check your AntiVandal software and make sure your devices are not being blocked.

  • Windows 7 fails when authenticating to another computer on the network

In Windows 7 (home premium, 64 bit), I am attached to a VPN (Using OpenVPN). Then, whenever I try to either:
    - Use explorer to look at the file system of another computer
    - Use the remote desktop connection on another computer
    - Map a folder on another computer as a network drive
... in all of these cases, I get the authentication dialog and once I send my username and password, it crashes. For example, when I use explorer, it hangs, and then comes back with the message: "Explorer has stopped working"
I have elsewhere seen a proposed solution for similar symptoms, of deleting this key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions\MachineThrottling
However, this is not applicable in my case, as the key is not present.
I don't think that this can be a problem with the network, because:
    a) this works fine from a different computer, running XP,
    b) I have in fact seen this working on this computer, but just once, straight after a system restore, and I can't replicate the success by doing another system restore.
    c) If it were a problem with the network, you would expect Windows to fail gracefully.
    Additionally:
    - Disabling the firewall doesn't help.
    - Disabling the antivirus software (AVG) doesn't help.
    - Doing a clean boot doesn't help.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

  • How do I add a password to an existing Computer-to-Computer (ad-hoc) network?

I have just created a computer-to-computer (ad-hoc) network but accidently missed the step to add a password to restrict access to the network.  I cannot see any options to edit or manually manage the 'device' network.
How do I add a password or delete the network?

Use AirPort Admin Utility to enable wireless encryption on the one called "Main". Use WPA2 or WPA (with a non-dictionary password) if all of your equipment supports it.
Configure the 2nd AirPort Express (AX) [formerly "Remote"] to join the wireless network provided by the first one. Follow the directions in KB 302153, AirPort Express: How to join an existing wireless network in client mode.

  • Block Computer From My Network

Please I need help on how best to be able to block some specific computer from my network not minding the fact that they are pluged into my LAN on my switch.
Is there a way to enable a rule to prevent such system from accessing anything from the router?
I am new to cisco and my router is RV042
    Thank you.

    Dear Charles,
Thank you for reaching Small Business Support Community.
What you can do is set an access rule(s) to prevent certain(s) IP addresses, statically assigned to those computers, from accessing any WAN service.
    So, if you setup DHCP server settings on the router you would have to assign static IP addresses to the computers you look to prevent internet access from, outside from the DHCP pool range and enter those static IP addresses on the DHCP config in the router (DHCP > DHCP Setup , Static IP).  Please refer to chapter 4 in the admin guide for details;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/csbr/rv0xx/administration/guide/rv0xx_AG_78-19576.pdf
Once you have the static IP addresses assigned to the devices and entered on the router, you can set access rules to allow/deny internet access to them.  Please refer to "Configuring access rules" section on page 106, chapter 7 of the admin guide.
I hope you find this information useful and please do not hesitate to reach me back if there is anything else I may help you with.
    Kind regards,

I just installed Airport Extreme. It works as a wireless network on my Macbook. It won't connect with my Windows Visa PC. Message reads: "settings saved on this computer for the network don't match requirements of the network." I seem to need to enter a security key/passphrase to connect to the PC. Where do I find them?
    Thanks for your help.

I assume that you have Wireless Security enabled on your AirPort's wireless network. The issue maybe that the PC is unable to use the WPA password itself and will require using the Equivalent Network Password instead.
To get this password, you will use the AirPort Utility from the MacBook:
Start the AirPort Utility > Select the AirPort base station > Manual Setup
Now, before doing anything else, go up to the utility's menu bar at the top of the screen, and then, choose "Base Station," and then, Equivalent Network Password from the drop-down menu. You will see two items: 1) WPA Password, which should look familiar to you, and 2) WPA Pre-Shared Key. It should be a long hexidecimal set of numbers and letters. Jot down this second item.
You will want to use the value you just jotted down when entering the password from the Windows Visa PC.

  • Second computer not detecting network

    Hi!
This week I bought a new WRT54G v8.1. After updating the firmware, I was able to set up the network using LELA. However, I've tried adding the second computer to the network and haven't been able to get it to work.
The second computer has a wireless USB adaptor (also Linksys) to receive the signal. It detects other networks in the general vicinity (such as my neighbors'), but not my router. The WLAN light on the router connected to computer #1 flashes rapidly when computer #1 wakes up or is restarted. It then slows until it blinks only once every 10 seconds or so. I've copied the "LinksysConnectPC" setup program to a flash drive, per the LELA directions, and transferred it to computer #2. However, when I run this program, there is a "Checking the computer..." message displayed for several minutes. At first, this message was displayed for only 1 or 2 minutes. After subsequent tries, this message was displayed for closer to ten minutes. After this period of waiting, the message, "EasyLink Advisor could not establish a wireless connection to the router", is displayed.
Computer #1 uses Windows XP. Computer #2 uses Windows Vista. The router is set to channel 1. The USB adaptor is set to channels 1-11 in Device Manager. SSID broadcast is set to "enabled". The security mode is set to WEP.
    What should I do?

First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router.   Verify that "SSID Broadcast" is set to "enabled".
Also, in the computer, go to your wireless software, and go to "Preferred Networks" (sometimes called "Profiles" ). There are probably a few networks listed. Delete any network named "linksys". Also delete any network that you do not recognize, or that you no longer use.  Delete your current network (this will delete any old settings).  Reboot computer.  Return to "Preferred Networks" and re-enter your current network info (SSID, encryption (if any), and key (if any) ). Then select your current network and make it your default network, and set it to automatic login. You may need to go to "settings" to do this, or you may need to right click on your network and select "Properties" or "settings".  Reboot computer.  You should connect automatically.  If you still have a problem, temporarily turn off your computer's software firewall.
If the above does not fix your problem, download and install the latest driver for your wireless card.
Some users have reported improved wireless performance by switching from WEP to WPA encryption.   Ideally, you should be using WPA2, or at least WPA encryption with a strong password.  WEP is no longer recommended.
If you decide to go with WPA2 ( = WPA with AES ), note that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2. Go to Microsoft Knowledge base, article ID=917021 and it will direct you to the patch.
Sadly, the patch is not part of the automatic Windows XP updates, so lots of people are missing the patch.

  • Is there a way to send PP renders to another computer on the network?

Is there a way I can send renders out of Premiere Pro CS6 to another computer on the network that has Adobe Media Encoder CS6 installed?

You'd have to have PP installed on the other computer as well, and copy all the media and other assets over to that computer, along with the PP project file, and then start PP on that second computer and send to AME from there.
    In short, no.

  • Trying to reconnect an XP computer to wireless network.

Have an XP computer that was previously using my Time Capsule--wireless network. The XP had to be recovered with recovery discs b/c of virus. Since the recovery I can't use the wireless network on that computer. The network appears in the list but when I try to connect I get a message that tells me Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. Network may no longer be in range (which it is..all bars are green) refresh and try again. Any suggestions?

The TC does not conform to SMB network standards.
Change the name so it has no spaces and is pure alphanumeric..both TC name and wireless name. I also recommend manually setting to N and set channels manually.
If you do not get full ip address and gateway plus dns or the values are wrong, make sure you have downloaded the very latest driver from the wireless card manufacturer.. ie if Intel download the driver direct from Intel.. also you need to be on SP3 with all the updates.

  • Protection Error - This application cannot continue because another application with an identical serial number is already running on another computer on your network

I attempted to open Final Cut Express this morning and got the message, "Protection Error - This application cannot continue because another application with an identical serial number is already running on another computer on your network".
I have no other FCE on any computers...this is the only mac running (iMac 2008 model).  I used a preference manager app and deleted preferences...didn't work.  I uninstalled and reinstalled FCE...didn't work.
This is the first time I have used FCE since installing the Yosemite OS, so I'm thinking perhaps that has something to do with it.
    Any ideas?

There have been recent posts appearing about your problem. I'm not sure if anyone has found a solution.
FCE was abandoned by Apple years ago, and they are currently making Operating Systems without regard to how it impacts FCE.

That is what I would try - a fresh install - but your need to use FCS remover (from the same software source as Preference Manager) to make sure you get all traces of your existing installation off the drive prior to doing the installation:
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/fcsremover/
If you use FCS Remover, and reinstall the other problem may be that Apple has apparently removed the Software Upgrade to FCE 4.0.3.
So unless you have a 4.0.3 install disk, or you hadn't upgraded past the version number of the install disk you do have, you legacy projects may be tagged as being created with a later version than you have and not open.
Hope it works out for you.

    Hello lucky3480;
I don't know what else to do. I'm thinking of possibly returning the unit and purchasing a wireless internet card to install in the tower. Any help you can provide would be great. Even suggesting a good wireless card at this point
Well it looks like you're not having any luck at all with this AX set up but please don't give on it just yet, it's a good choice for extending your Network. Your on the right path, just going backwards and in the wrong direction. You'll learn a lot about stuff this way but may lead to other issues.
Before I continue, let me know if you have returned the AX or still need help. Here's a link to Apple's PDF about [Designing AirPort Networks|http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Designing_AirPort_Networks10.5-Windows.pdf] Click on it to open in Safari but then save it to your desktop. Now open it from your desktop and start reading Chapter 3, page 42.
    Later...
